Hamilton to Participate in Master Class Continued... by Morten Lauridsen and Introit et Kyrie from Requiem, Op. 48 by Gabriel Fauré. In the first piece, the flowing music of Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on This Shining Night” captures the beauty and wonder of James Agee's poem with the same title. As a result, it has become one of the composer’s most recognized choral works, performed by ensembles all over the world. The second piece is the first movement of seven. The work is scored for fourpart harmony, soprano and baritone soloists, mixed choir, orchestra, and organ. In his Requiem, a term applied to musical compositions associated with death, dying, and mourning, Fauré’s focus is on eternal rest and consolation. Hamilton has a long and storied history with music. He has served as a pianist at Bigfork Summer Playhouse, at Christ the King Parish in Missoula, and at Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Chinook where he also played the organ. He will graduate from the University of Montana in December with a degree in Music Education with an applied study in piano. Ranching For Profit Blog - Dave Pratt Healthy Land, Happy Families and Profitable Businesses www.ranchingforprofit.com

Recreation In the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People course recreation is pronounced, re-creation. It seems appropriate to write about this now because when you read this I will be in the second week of a trip to Europe with my wife to celebrate our 30th anniversary. I remember Bud Williams talking about never needing to take a vacation if you love what you do. That may be true for some people, but it isn’t for me. I feel like back-packing trips with my son, Jack, strengthens our relationship. I believe that adventures with Kathy, traveling to places we’ve never been, experiencing other cultures and embracing new challenges, increases my effectiveness in the other things I do. In ranching we tend to wear “not ever taking a vacation” like a badge of honor. I’ve heard many ranchers proudly claim, “I haven’t taken a vacation in 10 years!” Only to hear their spouses sigh in dejected exasperation, “I know.” Perhaps they don’t really want to take a vacation, although that’s not the message I see from their spouses. I think it’s more likely that they can’t get away. Not being able to leave the ranch for a week is the single biggest reason people cite for not taking the Ranching For Profit School. Hard work and long hours are part of the ranching culture. But it is also part of our downfall because working at an unsustainable pace is, well, it is unsustainable. You can’t build a sustainable business on unsustainable effort. Perhaps Bud Williams is right. If you love what you do, maybe you don’t ever need to take a vacation. But wouldn’t it be nice to be able to? Benefits have been cropping up along the Hi-Line as community-minded, generous people wish to help the Justin and Tomi Simenson family whose son Wacee was diagnosed in early February with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. The most recent of these events, Pints for Wacee, will be held at Triple Dog Brewing Company, 675 1st Street West in Havre, on Friday, March 9 at 4:00 PM. Triple Dog will donate $1.00 for every pint sold, and chili will be served for a free will donation at this event hosted by Debbie Jorgensen Ramberg. #TeamWacee t-shirts designed by Erika and Cody Arnold will also be for sale with all proceeds going to the Simenson family to defray expenses. After learning of the mass in Wacee’s chest and receiving the recommendation to fly to the Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, the anxiety-ridden family settled in while Wacee began receiving chemotherapy treatments. On February 18, chest x-rays showed that the mass had already shrunk “significantly.” Doctors were able to see the top half of Wacee’s lung, and they continue to be surprised with how well Wacee is progressing. On February 20, Wacee was released to the Ronald McDonald house, which will be the Simenson’s “home away from home” for the rest of Wacee’s 30-day treatment plan. Although the prognosis of Wacee’s disease is a good one, the future holds numerous doctor appointments, flights to Colorado, and overnight trips to Kalispell Regional Hospital as the family combats their son’s cancer. Given that schedule and the lost income from missed work days so that the couple can be with their son, event organizers invite Hi-Line community members to Save the Date, May 5 at 5:00 PM, for the Wacee Simenson Benefit to be held at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. Justin and Tomi determined that by May they should be home and past the most difficult parts of treatment. “I know Wacee is going to want to experience FIRST HAND all the love and support from all of you in person and not just from the computer,” his mother wrote on Wacee’s Warriors Facebook page. “After the winter we have had, I think we are ALL going to be ready for a night out of dancing, nice weather, and a night celebrating the fight of this little Warrior!” The evening will begin with a free will donation taco/nacho feed, and throughout the night, there will be silent and live auction items. #TEAMWACEE t-shirts and wristbands will also be available, and live music will provide entertainment. Donations can be dropped off at Shore’s Floral and First Bank of Montana in Chinook, Norman’s Ranch and Sportswear in Havre, and Kristi Plant’s in Miles City. Donations can also be mailed to Debbie Ramberg. P.O. Box 1415; Chinook, MT 59523. Larger items can be taken directly to the Community Building at the Blaine County Fairgrounds the day before the benefit.

Seminar to Focus on Montana’s Economic Outlook On Wednesday, March 14, the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) will be holding its 43rd Annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminar beginning at 8:00 AM and ending at 1:00 PM. The BBER group have been traveling since January 23, and Havre is their last stop in a nine-city trek across the state. The venue for this seminar, which will focus on Higher Education in Montana and the Future, will be MSUN Hensler Auditorium, located at 300 13th Street West on the campus of MSU-Northern. BBER is part of the Montana University System and exists to serve policy makers, businesses and the citizens of Montana with economic information. This half-day seminar and luncheon will highlight the latest economic trends for local, state, and national economies. BBER economist Patrick Barkey will present economic forecasts for Havre, and industry specialists will provide an outlook for Montana’s important sectors: nonresident travel, health care, real estate and housing, agriculture, manufacturing, forest products, and energy. After an introduction and overview, Bryce Ward, Associate Director with the Bureau of Business and Economic Research, will talk about the Benefits of Higher Education. Ward will focus on higher education as a future-oriented business, one that educates and prepares the leaders of tomorrow but one that is also challenged to return a value to all of us who live and work here. Ward’s presentation will provide some economic context for the subject of the keynote address delivered by Robert Nystuen, Montana University System Regent and Market President of Glacier Bank. Nystuen will share his perspective on the future of higher education in Montana. According to Robert Van Driest, the BBER’s Marketing Director, the seminar does not qualify as a public forum, but it’s open to anyone who would care to register. Regular tickets, which can be purchased for $90.00, include the seminar, Montana Economic Report, lunch, and a one-year subscription to the Montana Business Quarterly (a $35 value). Continuing education credits are available, as well as a discounted price of $25.00 for Montana University System faculty, staff, and students. To register, interested individuals need to visit the event website: http://www.economicoutlookseminar.com/. Additional information can also be received by calling 406-243-5113. City Street Snow Removal Reminders As the Hi-Line Communities continue to get snow, the city of Harlem reminds residents to keep in mind City Ordinance, Chapter 12.04, regarding street snow removal procedures. In the interest of public safety and for travel convenience, the City may have need to remove snow from city streets. When this need arises, vehicles parked along the streets impede or prevent the City from safely plowing or removing snow, so the owners of those vehicles are asked to remove them. If after receiving the notice to remove, either orally or in writing, within 48 hours, individuals will find their vehicles removed at their expense. So as to avoid any issues with towing, impounding, or penalties, the City asks for cooperation and compliance. Violators of this City Ordinance can potentially pay a $300.00 fine if convicted.

DAVE SAYS: Who Is Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

DEAR DAVE, I received a call the other day from a company saying it could negotiate the balance on my credit cards to a lesser amount. The caller also said they could get me a zero-percent interest rate until the debts were paid off, and then the accounts would be closed. I’m kind of starting over again financially, because I sold a company I had run for almost 15 years, then got into real estate and lost almost everything. I’m making just enough to squeeze by, and my credit card debt totals $40,000. Would this be a good idea? ~Bill DEAR BILL, No, this is not a good idea. You’re looking at two major problems with a company such as this one. One, they will absolutely destroy whatever credit you may have. Their plan is to take your cash, and spend some time beating down the credit card companies until they agree to accept a lesser amount. Then, they use your cash to settle loans you will have — by that time —defaulted on. This will put you in a situation very similar to if you had filed Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Stay away from these people. You have an income crisis, in addition to a debt crisis, at this point. For starters, I want you to start living on a tight, written, monthly budget. I’m talking rice and beans, no vacations, and no eating out until you pay off this debt. Where your income is concerned, maybe you should consider getting back into the kind of business you ran previously for a while. Look for a managerial or supervisory position in that area, at least until you’re able to get back on your feet and save some cash. Finally, cut up the credit cards, close the accounts, and put as much money as you can spare toward paying off that debt using the debt snowball system. Never go back into debt again! 15 percent. You’re doing great, Brenda. Keep up the good work! ~ Dave * Dave Ramsey is CEO of Ramsey Solutions. He has authored seven best-selling books, including The Total Money Makeover. The Dave Ramsey Show is heard by more than 13 million listeners each week on 585 radio stations and multiple digital platforms. Follow Dave on the web at daveramsey.com and on Twitter at @DaveRamsey.

Circle Stand

Ron just got a new sports car and was out for a drive when he cut off a truck driver. The trucker motioned for Ron to pull over. When he did, the driver got out of his truck and pulled a piece of chalk from his pocket. He drew a circle on the road and told Ron to stand in the circle and not move. He then went to Ron's new car and cut up the leather seats. When the truck driver turned around Ron had a slight grin on his face. "Oh, you think that's funny?" the trucker asked, "Watch this." He got a baseball bat out of his truck and broke every window in the car. When he turned and looked Ron had a smile on his face. This drove the driver into a rage. He got his knife back out and sliced all the tires. Now Ron was laughing. The truck driver really started to lose it. He went back to his truck and got a can of gas, poured it on the sports car and set it on fire. He turned around and Ron was laughing so hard he almost fell down. "What's so funny?" The truck driver asked him. Ron replied, "When you weren't looking, I stepped outside the circle 4 times." 2000 Country Club Road * Turner, MT 59542 Phone 800-756-1817 Email: office@triciastrader.com www.TriciasTrader.com FAX: 888-796-8498

Wheat markets were mostly lower following Wheat markets were mostly lower following the supply/demand report that showed a reduction in US export expectations and an increase in Russian export projections. Corn was slightly higher and soybeans strongly higher, both a result of Argentine production issues as those crops head into pollination under expanding drought conditions and yield estimates rapidly declining. Soymeal is the leader higher as Argentina crushes most of its soybean crop and then exports the soymeal. The cattle complex was mixed with live cattle moving slightly higher, following stronger cash markets. Extreme cold in the northern plains and more storms across the central plains have reduced cattle movement, and even closed some auction yards, catching packers short-bot again and helping to support cash prices. Feeder cattle struggled to move higher with the fats as producers begin to worry about having enough moisture available for pastures, with spring warm-up just around the corner. Financial markets had another very active week. Stocks were sharply higher following the major selling from the previous week as investors looked to take advantage of cheaper values. The US dollar pulled back from its quick rally as the Europeans resumed talk about rising interest rates, supporting the euro but pressuring the dollar. Energies were weaker as weekly crude oil and distillate supplies increased more than trade expectations. THIS IS A SOLICITATION. Ramblings of a Conservative Cow Doctor by Krayton Kerns, DVM, former State Rep. HD 58

The Trophy Wife 3.0

Financial State of Great Northern Fairgrounds Frustrates Fair Board Discussion about the fate of the Great Northern Fairgrounds and the financial burden it represents dominated the fair board’s monthly meeting on February 20 when board members expressed their frustration about the financial state of the fairgrounds as it relates to the annual fair. The Board determined that the finance committee arm of the Great Northern Fair Board will need to hold a special meeting soon to determine whether to keep open or shut down the Great Northern Fairgrounds. However, a time and place for the special meeting had not been set by the end of the February meeting. After reviewing the budget, Finance Committee Chair Ray Kallenberger said, “Right now, I don’t know how we’re going to put on a fair.” To account for this current predicament, Board members named several issues: • Wages, utilities, and other expenses have exceeded income • Costly repairs take a toll on the budget • Weather has limited revenues typically collected from events and grounds’ use • Lack of a fairgrounds manager • Changing cultural attitudes surrounding fairs Because contracts for this year’s fair have to be honored, the fair hasn’t been cancelled. “But in the next couple of months, we have some serious decisions to make,” board Chair Paul McCann said. Board members discussed ideas like asking the public for a tax levy or shutting down and winterizing the fairgrounds, which would save money on utilities and wages in low usage months. Before the meeting closed, a strategic planning committee was formed to seek solutions and to help the public understand what the board feels the future can hold.

New readers in new markets mistakenly think trophy wife is a demeaning term. It is not, here being why: When I turned 16 and had access to the family station wagon, I figured I needed a girlfriend. I put the same effort into picking a homecoming date as ranchers do when selecting replacement heifers, so after studying the honor roll, and the girls’ volleyball roster, I spotted the perfect girl. I asked her to the dance and she said “Yes.” Seven years later, I asked her to marry me and she fell for it again. Our 38 years of marital bliss, three children and 17 grandchildren prove I have a great eye for cattle. (Let’s pause here while the thought police peel themselves from the ceiling panels. It is so easy to trip their triggers.) Here is just one of the several ways she earned the trophy wife moniker. While building our second home, we lived in a cramped, fifth-wheel camper. Rather than dragging the trailer to town to drain the holding tanks every week, I bolted a toilet seat to a sawed-off 55-gallon barrel, dug a pit in the sagebrush and covered it with a tepee tent. Our prairie commode would have made Martha Stewart proud, save the small inconvenience of banging on the barrel as a snake check before plopping your backside onto the seat. On the bright side, our dogs loved the snake check when the banging kicked out a rabbit. Early one July morning, I was peeling and notching log trusses, when the trophy wife stepped from the camper. Her hair was still wet from the shower and she wrapped herself in a towel for the short stroll to the toilet tepee. Our Saint Bernard and Chocolate Lab spotted her and shot from under the camper, jockeying to get the prime position for a rabbit chase. “Don’t forget the snake check,” I kindly offered. She rolled her eyes but said nothing. Minutes later, she returned to the camper to finish cooking breakfast while I pondered the glory of the moment. For six months, the trophy wife never complained about our prairie privy, because she is not a princess—she is a keeper. Over the years, I have met readers who God has also blessed with trophy wives and they proudly introduce them as such. Rather than being demeaning, trophy wife is an endearing redneck term for a Proverbs 31 wife whose “worth is far above rubies.”

develop a personal relationship with God, I had a lot of problems. I was a mess because of the abuse I had experienced growing up. As a result, I was insecure, unstable, unhappy most of the time, and I got angry whenever things didn’t go my way. It was a miserable way to live. I eventually reached a point where I was willing to do whatever I had to do to have peace and to really enjoy my life. So I got serious about my relationship with God and started studying His Word and spending time with Him in prayer. As I did this, I discovered that God wanted me to have abundant life and to live with His righteousness, peace and joy. But getting there was a battle! John 10:10 says Jesus “came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]” (AMP). And Romans 14:17 says, “The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking [what one likes], but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” We can experience abundant life and have peace and joy in the Holy Spirit when we develop an intimate, personal relationship with God. And two main keys to having intimacy with God are truth and time. You’ve probably heard the saying, “The truth will set you free!” This is not just a wise proverb someone came up with; it’s actually taken from Scripture. Jesus says in John 8:31-32 that “if you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].” If we’re going to be set free from sin – wrong mindsets, attitudes and behavior that are not like Christ – then we must face the truth about ourselves and choose to believe what God says in His Word more than what we think or feel or what others say. We need to be completely truthful with God and let Him into every part of our lives. This means that when we have thoughts like, “I’m no good. I never do anything right. I’ll never amount to anything. Nothing ever works out right for me!” we talk back to ourselves and say what God’s Word says. For example: • God is love, He loves me, and nothing can separate me from His love! (1 John 4:16; John 3:16; Romans 8:38-39) • I am a new creation in Christ and I am made right with God because of what Jesus has done for me! (2 Corinthians 5:17, 21) • I can do whatever I need to do through Christ who gives me strength! (Philippians 4:13) • I trust God and put my faith in Him to cause everything in my life to work together for my good as I walk out His plans for my life! (Romans 8:28) These declarations are based on a few verses you can use to come against old mindsets that don’t line up with the truth of God’s Word. Look up the scriptures referenced above in your Bible, and study them so you can get them rooted in your heart. It may help if you write them on note cards or in a journal and read them frequently. As you meditate on God’s Word, you’ll renew your mind with the truth, because there is power in the Truth to set you free from anything that’s holding you back in your walk with Him. The second thing we must do to cultivate intimacy with God is spend regular, quality time with Him each day. Christianity isn’t about a weekly trip to church or fulfilling a checklist of religious rituals that you feel obligated to do to stay on God’s good side. Jesus died for us so we can have a personal relationship with Him, not a religion. You don’t just need to know about God…it’s more important for you to know HIM! If God doesn’t have first place in your life, you will never be fulfilled…you’ll never have real, lasting peace and joy in anything you do or any circumstance you experience. But if you will abide in Christ, continually obeying His teachings and living by them, then you will be empowered to live with victory over sin. You’ll have true intimacy with God! If you’ve been struggling to grow in your relationship with God or you’re discouraged because of battles you can’t seem to get through, I want to encourage you to make a determined decision to spend regular, quality time alone with God each day. Even if you can only spend a few minutes with Him in the morning or during your lunch break at work, make this your number one priority. God loves you so much! He wants you to succeed in being everything He created you to be and having the life Jesus came to give you. Make your relationship with Him the foundation of everything in your life and you will win the battles you face, because He will fight for you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
