n what amounts to a massive achievement, the Vile Parle Police arrested Mumbai's biggest chain snatcher, Jafar Deshmukh alias 'Chikna” who had a whole lot of cases registered against him in various police stations in Mumbai. Following his arrest, the Vile Parle police recovered

lakhs of gold from the possession of a certain jeweller to whom he used to regularly sell gold following his chain snatching activities. It is a well-established fact that Jafar was operating his gang from long back, but as yet no one including the police had a 'fix' on how many youths were working in his gang. Not just this, 'Chikna' had good contacts in police

circles too, and often played a vital role in releasing snatchers from his gang after they were caught by the cops. The big fish 'Chikna' was trapped only after two of his gang members, Nelson and Iran were caught red-handed in Vile Parle last month while they were doing their chainsnatching activities. enceforth the screening of Marathi films during the prime time slots of 6 pm to 9 pm in multiplexes will be mandatory. The state government has decided to enact a law to make screening of Marathi films mandatory for multiplexes during the prime time slots. The Cultural Affairs minister, Vinod Tawde declared this in the State Assembly yesterday while replying to a debate on preservation of

historical forts, Marathi language and culture. He said, “We are in the process of enacting a law to make it mandatory for multiplexes to screen Marathi films during prime time”. “The state government is also producing a short film on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, for screening in theatres.
