There are many potential areas where Lithuania and India can successfully cooperate. Lithuania is keen to forge ties with India to work together in Laser Technology. Laser technology can be put to multiple uses such as detecting air pollution, ensuring national security besides wide applications in optical industry, diamond processing and medicine,” said Laimonas TALAT-KELPSA, Ambassador, The Republic of Lithuania during an interactive meeting with the Ambassador jointly organised by MVIRDC World Trade Centre and All India Association of Industries. Elaborating on prospects of broadening Indo-Lithuanian relations Laimonas TALAT-KELPSA said that besides cooperation in laser technology, Lithuania and India need to strengthen bilateral trade. Hope for India encourages people to donate their hair for cancer patients. Cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy lose their hair and it becomes a reason for loss of confidence and pride for such patients. It adds to their trauma and the fight against cancer becomes tougher. Premi Mathew, the founder of Hair for Hope India told the ADC that almost a year ago, she met a six-yearold boy who had long hair. “He told me that he is growing his hair to donate. He wanted to donate his hair to cancer patients. This inspired me to start a similar thing in India,” she said. Abhiramy, a 27-year-old student donated her waist-long hair yesterday. “I always wanted to do something for cancer patients. Then I came to knew about Hair for Hope India,” she said.
She added, “For us, hair have to do with looks and style but for the cancer patients, it is all about their confidence. It's just a small token of support which I want to give them.” Lendle Sunny (22) said, “I am growing my hair for the last one year to donate them. It was an amazing experience and tough one as well. At times people use to tease me for it, but the feel of doing this for a noble cause gave me confidence to go ahead. And today after donating 15 inch of my hair I feel great.” Another donor, Jismi John (28) felt that she had done her tiny bit to support cancer patients. “Whenever I complained about hair loss I used to think about the mental state of those who lose their hair in bundles. Then I came to knew about Hair for Hope India and I decided to donate my hair so that I can bring a smile on someone's face,” she said.
ing Lithuanian economy is strategically located in the centre of Europe with a major port in the Baltic Sea and as such serves as an important hub for trade and business. Earlier, in his welcome remarks, Vijay Kalantri, Vice-Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Centre and President, All India Association of Industries said it is widely acknowledged that there is a close similarity between the Lithuanian and Sanskrit languages, Lithuanian being the Indo-European language grammatically closest to Sanskrit, signifying possible close ancient links. As of today, the bilateral trade between India and Lithuania stands at Euro 55.53 million. Chief exports of India to Lithuania include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textiles and consumer goods. Indian imports from Lithuania are machinery and mechanical appliances, high-tech optical instruments, base metals and articles of base metal, chemicals, sulphur, lime and cement. A high-level delegation from sectors of food and agro processing, organic products, preservatives, condiments, etc participated in the meeting.
A
s the election fever hits the state, political leaders owning colleges, institutes and education schemes have been giving out political party registration forms to the students to fill. Students have also been asked to prepare banners, animation and graphics and plan election campaigns for the respective politicians or political parties. The issue came to light, after this reporter visited a few colleges in the city owned or run by political leaders and trusts. It was noticed that the colleges had also allowed the distribution of registration forms of political parties to the students. The forms though were not a part of any academic process or practice, students had to compulsorily fill the forms. Further, colleges had already divided the areas of students as per the constituencies of the political leaders so that the
students as well as their parents can register themselves for the political party. A student from an Andheri-based college said, “Our college has been asking us to fill in the registration forms for the politician who runs the college. Even if we do not wish to fill the forms, we are scared that it would invite trouble. We do not wish to lose our college year for not filling the forms and build in mental pressure over us.” It was also noticed that students who had been working in the cultural department of the college for festivals were engaged in designing banners, making animated video clips of the political party etc. When the ADC spoke to the college principals, they just stated that it was the direction from the college management and that it cannot be disobeyed. Pradeep Sawant, Senate member and Grievance Cell member, Mumbai University, said, “The management cannot involve the students in their own personal activities and it is a punishing act that these colleges have been following. Students should lodge a complaint against these illegal activities run by colleges in the Mumbai University's Grievance Cell, wherein the name of the student will be kept secret and a strict action will be taken by the Cell against the college as well as the management.”

‘Traffic signal’ spotted in NASA’s Mars photo
A British space enthusiast claims to have spotted a 'traffic signal' in a photo of the red planet taken by NASA's Curiosity Mars rover. The extraterrestrial "signal" was spotted by Joe Smith, 45, in an image shot from the six-foot-high left hand side mast cam on the Curiosity Rover last Thursday. Smith, from Bristol, noticed a chunk of rock in the corner of the picture which looks bizarrely like a traffic signal. "I have been following the images from NASA since the start and I flick through them on the NASA website every day," Smith was quoted as saying by the 'Western Daily Press'. "I saw this one and I thought 'hang on, that looks a bit strange'. I think it looks like a traffic light. "It is hard to tell how big it would be without any point of reference, but I would estimate it was about 12 inches. "I posted it on the internet and people said they thought it looked like a set of traffic lights too although some people did say it looked like a totem pole," Smith said. In the past, many strange-looking objects have been spotted in the images of Mars captured by Curiosity as well as Opportunity rover. The objects which resembled a jelly doughnut, a rat and a thigh bone were later found to be rocks.

the remote southern Indian Ocean have released detailed images of the seabed -- revealing features such as extinct volcanoes and 1,400-metre depressions for the first time. The collection of data from one of the most secret parts of the world is a by-product of the search for the Boeing 777 plane which went missing from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, to Beijing on March 8 along with 239 people, including five Indians, on board. Until now there were better maps of Mars than of this bit of the sea
floor, the BBC reported. Twenty-six countries have helped look for the plane, but nothing has ever been found. The team at the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), which is leading the hunt for the plane, is using sonar to map the new "priority" search area, at the bottom of the southern Indian Ocean off the coast of Western Australia. After that they will deploy two or three deep sea vehicles to begin the painstaking, inch-by-inch seabed search for wreckage.
Where has Kim Jong Un disappeared to?
Azad Shrivastav | ADC
File photo of Kim Jong Un at a governmental meeting.
ART FOR A CAUSE: Students of Wadala’s Ambedkar College, use sand as the medium to create their work of art at Dadar Chowpatty.
IN North Korea, political life revolves around Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. Yet Kim appeared to have skipped a high-level governmental meeting Thursday and has been missing since September 3, when he appeared at a concert with his wife – and no one seems to know why. Televised footage of the reopening of North Korea's Supreme People’s Assembly did not show Kim at the meeting. It is the first time that Kim has missed a meeting at Pyongyang's parliament since his father died in December 2011. This absence has sparked much speculation in the South Korean press, with many suggesting that Kim is in poor health: During the summer, North Korean state television showed him walking with a slight limp, which many had taken as a sign of a wider problem at the time. Kim appeared in the North Korean media earlier this week, but it
was noted that he was "labouring on" in the heat. Wilder theories have sprung up further afield. Britain's the ‘Daily Mirror’ suggests that Kim could have become ill from eating too much imported cheese. The Swiss-educated North Korean leader has developed an infatuation with Emmental cheese and may be suffering ill health due to the weight he has since gained. Another reason why Kim may be reluctant to appear in public is the ongoing power struggle inside the North Korean military, which means that the situation in Pyongyang is still unstable. Late last year, Kim had his own uncle executed, a sign of a surprising and unusual power struggle in Pyongyang. Kim's absence is tantalizing, but most North Korean experts are pouring cold water on it: The North Korean leader was absent for two weeks in 2012 and later returned to the public eye with no explanation.

Later in the evening, the MNS which had earlier announced its list of 153 candidates, announced its second list of 71 candidates. The Sena, BJP and NCP delayed declaring their lists of official candidates till late yesterday evening. Most of the parties kept the issuing of AB forms (official party ticket) under wraps in a bid to avert rebellion within party ranks. There were only four members present for the meeting out of which a Shiv Sena corporator and a member of the Improvement Committee, Ashwini Mase finally voluntarily took charge and adjourned the meeting as the meeting was

However, problems can come up if the BJP, with the support of opposition parties, decides against the Sena's stand on the administration's proposals. The ruling Sena, which has 88 corporators in the 226-member house, will fall into a minority if the BJP pulls out its 32 members.

With tomorrow being the last date to file nominations and the uncertainty prevailing about continuation of the Shiv Sena-BJP and CongressNCP alliance till Thursday, many leaders of these four major parties refrained from filing nominations across the state. Today and tomorrow, a rush is expected in the city to file the nomination papers. “We have also identified sensitive areas where extensive police deployment has been done to maintain law and order.
US court issues summons against Modi N
EW YORK: An American court has issued summons against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged role in 2002 communal riots in Gujarat when he was the chief minister, drawing a prompt response from the US which said he enjoys immunity as head of government. The summons against Modi were issued on Thursday by the US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York on a civil lawsuit filed by the New York-based American Justice Center (AJC), a nonprofit human rights organisation, along with two survivors of the post-Godhra violence, reports PTI. The court said that Modi has to respond to the summons within 21 days after it is served on him. The Prime Minister, who has a packed schedule in New
York from Saturday, will leave for home on September 30 fromWashington after he concludes his five-day US visit. "While we cannot comment specifically on this lawsuit, I can tell you that as a general legal principle sitting heads of government enjoy immunity from suits in American courts," a senior Obama administration official told reporters during a conference call when asked about the lawsuit against Modi.

T
he city police have launched an exercise to collect licenced arms in the city ahead of MaharashtraAssembly polls due on October 15, a drive which has led to 288 weapons being surrendered so far as it cracked down on people with criminal antecedents.
As per the directives of the Election Commission, government authorities are required to collect arms prior to elections to ensure fair and peaceful polling. Soon after the election schedule is announced, District Magistrates and Police Commissioners make a detailed review and assessment of all the weapon licence holders.
“So far, 288 people have submitted their firearms. Going by the previous records, Mumbai Police on an average receives about 350 firearms ahead of elections,” said an officer. The weapon licence holders, who had been released on bail, and have a history of criminal offences, especially during elections, are mandated to deposit their firearms with
the police. Under the law, if a licence holder fails to deposit arms within a specified period, he shall be liable forprosecution under Section 188 of the IPC. All firearms so deposited shall be returned to the licence holders one week after the declaration of results. Meanwhile, police have arrested 13 persons and recovered as many

firearms besides 29 live cartridges in the metropolis since September 12, the day when the poll code of conduct came into force, police said. To thwart any move by people with criminal background to disrupt peace or poll-related activities, police have arrested or detained about 4,800 anti-social elements under relevant sections of Bombay Police Act.
Body of youth found in suitcase Jealous eunuch slashes lover with sword

ecluded spots in the rural areas of Thane district seem to have become a favourite destination for criminals to dump murdered bodies. Five days after the body of a senior citizen was found in a trunk in Mira Road, yet another case was reported from the Mumbai-Ahemdabad highway in Virar (East) on Friday morning. Passersby in the Vasai-Phata area alerted the police when they noticed a big, black-coloured suitcase lying in a nullah along the highway on Friday morning. The police, who initially suspected that the suitcase could be containing explosives, were shocked to find a highly decomposed body of a man stuffed into it. The yet to be identified deceased believed to be in his mid 20s was wearing a black T-shirt and short pants. The police suspect that the deceased was strangulated to death some-

Hubby, in-laws held for abetting woman’s suicide A
woman's husband and inlaws were arrested for allegedly torturing her for dowry following which she committed suicide, police said on Friday. The 25-year-old victim, Supriya Singh, got married to Vasai resident Chandan B Singh (28) in March 2013. At the time of her wedding, the woman's parents gave Rs 5 lakh to her in-laws as dowry, Thane's Mira Road police sub-inspector P S Salunke said. However, soon after marriage, Supriya's husband and in-laws started harassing her. They allegedly beat her and abused her while demanding more
dowry, he told PTI. Fed up with the constant harassment, the woman hanged herself at her house in Nallasopara area of Vasai on September 16, he said. Later, her parents, who live in Mira Road, lodged a complaint against her in-laws and husband for abetting her suicide by constantly torturing her. Based on the complaint, Mira Road police arrested the woman's husband, Chandan B Singh, brother-in-law Pawan B Singh, father-in-law Beechu Singh and mother-in-law Shail Beechu Singh last evening.
Supriya's sister-in-law Soni Singh, who is also an accused in the case, is absconding and police have launched a search to nab her, Salunke said. The accused have been booked under sections 304B (dowry death), 306 (abetment of suicide), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504, and 506 (criminal intimidation) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, he added.
24-year-old eunuch was arrested by the Malwani police on Friday for allegedly attacking her lover with a sword when she found him in a compromising position with another girl in his room at Malwani gate 7 in Malad. She then got him admitted to a nearby private hospital and told the authorities there that he was attacked by threefour unidentified men who stole his valuables. According to Malwani police sources, Vicky Reddy and Sapna Naidu, the eunuch, both came from the close-by localities in their native Andhra Pradesh. Vicky worked as a painter in Andhra and occasionally visited Sapna in Mumbai. About ten days ago, Vicky landed in Mumbai and started living with Sapna. When Sapna went out for some shopping on Thursday evening, she returned home to find Vicky allegedly in bed
with another girl. In a fit of anger, she took swords which she kept in her room and attacked Vicky. The girl managed to flee from the spot unharmed. Sources at Malwani police station reveal that they were informed about a patient with multiple injuries who was brought to the hospital. When they went to investigate, Sapna told them that some miscreants attacked her lover Vicky when he was walking on the road. When they went to the spot of the alleged crime, they did not find a single drop of blood. “So we checked Sapna’s room where we found multiple blood stains around the room. When we asked her about them, she came clean with her story,” said a police officer working on the case. An FIR was first registered under section 394, but now Sapna Naidu has been booked under section 307 and other sections of IPC.

Your real estate queries answered By Aroosa Ahmed

uyrightmumbai.com is a website which will answer any real estate queries and provide solutions to Mumbaikars looking to buy property in the city. After the melee of Campa Cola, the founders felt that the real estate sector needed an organised point of contact where consumers could reach out for guidance and protection of their rights. The website was launched a month ago and comprises a team of professionals – an architect, a solicitor, a chartered accountant, an advocate, a banking expert and others. Vijay Singh, a consultant at buyrightmumbai.com, said, “We want to give Mumbaikars the full solution to their real estate queries. The lifestyle of Mumbaikars is such that in areas which do not come under their forte, they seek
out professional help. For real estate, they either go to an agent or to a lawyer, and the agent is likely to benefit more out of the advice he gives. In recent times, purchase of real estate requires an integrated approach, which is why we have a team of professionals from varying backgrounds. Anybody looking to buy property can approach us six months to one year before they do and we can find something best catered to them.” Connecting with the people of buyrightmumbai.com is fairly simple. Singh said, “A Mumbaikar can fill out an online form with his details and queries and we will get in touch. We do not charge for the suggestions and advice given online.” Singh assures his customers, “If it is in my control and if people approach us on time, there will be no incident like Campa Cola.”

Anti-Tout Squad worked with the Vigilance and Railway Protection Force, and seized 1,400 Tatkal tickets worth Rs 52 lakh from illegal operations
By Vishnudas Sheshrao
I
f you are unable to book a tatkal ticket in time, you can blame it on the technically advanced touts combined with the computer illiteracy of the railway officers. Touts or agents are able to register as many as 136 PNRs within seconds and all e-tickets are sold within few minutes of booking portals opening. In two joint raids between the Anti-Tout Squad (ATS), Vigilance and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), an estimated 1,400 tatkal tickets
worth Rs 52 lakh were seized. FIRs are being registered at the respective police stations. These touts without valid licences have generated hundreds of fake log in addresses and internet protocol (IP) addresses, making them technically untouchable. So in a fully manual hunt, the RPF has apprehended two persons, Kalpesh Shah and Sandeep Parekh, at Virar and seized ten computers and eight pen drives from them. During the investigation, they recovered a total of 911 e-tickets amounting to Rs
42.3 lakh. An RPF officer said, “Kalpesh Shah was using illegal software to purchase the e-tickets. The software was installed on all his computers which have now been seized. He had more than 1,400 personal ids and more than 600 IP addresses. In a single slot, with the help of the software, he could generate 25 to 136 PNRs at a time.” On Thursday, in another joint raid by the Anti-Tout Squad, Vigilance and RPF, two more men were apprehended at Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, for using IRCTC
illegally to register 494 railway tickets worth almost Rs 10 lakh. A case is being registered with the local police against the two men, Rajendra Kumar Bafna and Mahesh Bafna. Chief Public Relations Officer Narendra Patil said, “ATS is really working hard and putting together all their sources to find out the touts in the city. If a tout is using 1,400 log in addresses and hundreds of IP addresses, then technically they are technically invisible to us. But the ATS did this job well.”
KEM suicide: Paralysed mother still doesn’t know By Shwetha Kannan
T
he suicide of the 24-year-old man from Nanded, Darshan Bhagwan Bansode, at the KEM Hospital, who was found hanging from the ceiling of the psycho-physiotherapy unit with a noose of wires around his neck, has caught the attention of the whole city, but Darshan's mother who is currently being treated for paralysis at the hospital is none-thewiser. Even to his older brother, Vishal Bansode, the news was broken by the media which has covered his younger brother's death quite extensively. Vishal, who is now by the side of his ailing mother, said, “I have somehow accepted what has happened, but I don’t think my mother will be able to with-
death, we will tell her.” Speaking about Darshan, Vishal said, “He was the apple of my mother's eye and he was tense about her health. On Saturday evening, we looked everywhere for him. When he was not found, I assumed he went back to Nanded. I don’t know what went wrong.” The Bansodes had come to Mumbai to get their paralysed mother treated, as no medical assistance was available at Darshan Bhagwan Bansode (24) was found Nanded. “We came here so that we hanging in the psycho-physiotherapy unit could get good treatment for our building of KEM Hospital this Monday. mother, free of charge, as we are eligible for the Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arostand this news. ‘Sena offered me Dy CM post’ R
epublican Party of India (Athawale) president Ramdas Athawale yesterday claimed he has been offered the post of Deputy Chief Minister by Shiv Sena if it came to power, but he was yet to decide on a tie-up with the saffron outfit for the October 15 Assembly polls. Athawale, who heads the largest faction of nearly halfa- dozen RPI groups, said the offer was made by Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. "Uddhavji has requested me to form an alliance with his party and in return has offered me the position of Deputy Chief Minister if the Sena manages to form the government after the Assembly polls," he told PTI. The Dalit leader, speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of his meeting with RPI's Core Committee members, said he was yet to decide on whom to tie-up with. Athawale said negotiations are still on with the Sena and BJP, who parted ways on Thursday, and a final decision on an alliance would be taken as per the advice of party workers. "I have demanded from the BJP a berth in the Union
cabinet when it is expanded," the Rajya Sabha member said. The former state minister said several common demands have been placed by the RPI before both parties and it is for them to take a decision on accepting them. "We have told both parties that we want 10 per cent share in government corporation posts, 3-4 ministers in the state. We want our party members in the state-run corporations like MIDC. Let's see who agrees to our demand." Athawale said he has asked 25-30 candidates of his party to file their nominations tomorrow, the last day of submitting papers. "But once our alliance is decided with a party, we will take some names back depending on the seat-sharing formula," he said.
Reliance Energy clarifies on power-cut at Janta Nagar By A Staff Reporter
A
day after the ADC on Thursday reported that 500 homes in Janta Nagar in Mankhurd were without power for the last two weeks, service provider Reliance Energy has clarified that new connections are subject to the Supply Code of the MERC. “Also, it is pertinent to note that for releasing new connections and maintaining quality and reliability of power supply in the area it is required to construct and commission new substation. Reliance Energy is already in process of the same and the proposal for required land is pending
with the Revenue Department. As far as the maintenance work is concerned, Reliance Energy had replaced the entire cable, which was burnt because of overloading due to heavy power theft in the area. The power thefts in the area are not only causing frequent power supply interruptions; but also endangering the lives of consumers and citizens. It is also damaging the existing network and system and resulting into cable faults, cable burning, fuse blowing etc and subsequently causing inconvenience to the consumers,” spokesperson of Reliance Energy said.

Ponder awhile… “No part of the education of a politician is more indispensable than the fighting of elections.” — Winston Churchill
Four cornered contest S
ENSATIONAL developments have taken place in Maharashtra just a few days before the Assembly elections. The NCP, which was an ally of the Congress in the DF government, withdrew its support: the government fell. The very next day even as the governor was considering whether to impose President’s rule or have a caretaker arrangement, Congress Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan resigned. There has been another political development: the BJP split with the Shiv Sena and decided to go solo. The Shiv Sena wanted to remain as a major partner in the alliance with the BJP which, however, would not accept the secondary position. The dispute was with regard to seat-sharing -- both in the case of BJP and SS and Congress and NCP. The Shiv Sena wanted for itself 150 seats and it was prepared to give the BJP only 119 seats. This led to a big dispute and the BJP decided to leave the alliance. The poll picture in Maharashtra has completely changed. There will now be a 4-cornered contest and each party has to attract the attention of the voter on its own merit. It is difficult to say who has the best chance to win. If we go by the latest happenings in the country, it looks like the BJP may have the best chance. It is difficult to say how the Shiv Sena will fare. Finally, the BJP which has quite a few advantages over its rivals may emerge the winner.

ULLISH on India story of development, BJP MP and former investment manager Jayant Sinha has said the country has potential to become a US $5 trillion economy and its stock market can generate US $3 trillion of wealth in the next ten years. Sinha, who was in New York at the India Investment Forum organised ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-day visit to the US, said that India was determined to show to the world that there can be an 'India model of development' and it could be much better than the China model and those based on 'authoritarian powers'. Son of former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, Jayant won Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand state earlier this year and formerly he was MD of Omidyar Network India Advisors. He also served on the five-member global Executive Committee of Omdiyar Network, which is the world's leading impact investment firm with about US $700 million in deployed capital, reports PTI. Speaking about what India needs from the world and what the world can expect from India, Sinha said, "The Indian economy is today a US $2-trillion economy and we have also grown at 7-8 per cent growth and we can double the economy to US $4 trillion in ten years if we are able to regain that growth rate. "Even rupee can go from Rs.60 level to become stronger and in US dollar terms we can become a US $5-trillion economy in ten years. "The market cap of India has also broadly been in the same ratio to the economy and the Indian market can also therefore go to US $3 trillion in the next ten years and that too only for listed and unlisted companies can add another trillion dollar," Sinha noted. "That is the potential Indian markets present today. There are investors who have lost money in China, but all those who invested in India have seen biggest of the wealth creation opportunity," Sinha said. Sinha was confident his party and the Prime Minister were going to stay in power for at least ten years and this was good enough time to take the country to greater levels. Sinha said it was more about what India can give to the world, although India also needed certain things from the world like energy, capital and technology. "What we need from the world is energy, first, then it is technology. There also, we don't need all kinds of technology. We have proved with Mangalyaan that we are also very capable of some really good technology. The third thing that we do need is capital. So far, do-
mestic capital is the most important driver of our growth. "At the same time, we need huge capital from abroad, but as far as I can see, the world is awash in capital, but what they are getting is low returns. If we have energy, technology and capital, we are on the course to become a US $5 trillion economy," he said. On what India can do to the world, Sinha said, "If we look at stars of different kinds of industries, that only India can provide. What China did was kill many industries with what we call China price. On the other hand, if you look at India, it has done tremendous things for the IT industry. "The kind of human capital we have in India is very important. We have seen that Indian pharma companies have been very competitive and we can see similar things in the medical device industry. "We can also see very innovative developments and frugal thinking in roof-top solar systems and a lot of design and innovations are happening in that area. Automotive is another area and we have seen large automak-

PERSPECTIVE ers using India for their manufacturing activities. "These are some areas where India can really give great things to the world. These are industries that need innovations, human capital and a frugal thinking. We are not going to replicate what China has done," he said. "If in India we can get to 7-8 per cent growth and become a $5 trillion economy, then what we demonstrate to the world is that there is not just China model of development, but also an India model for development that is based on diversity, democracy and innovations.
Asset managers bullish on India AS Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits US, fund managers from India and abroad expect improving sentiments and impressive returns from Indian markets to help attract billions of dollars flowing into the country's asset management industry. Sundeep Sikka, CEO, Reliance Capital Asset Management, said that his meetings with various institutional investors in the US show that they are very bullish on India and ready to pump in funds to benefit from the country's strong fundamentals and the superior returns being given by Indian markets. "While it is difficult to put a number to the

expected fund flows, more than US $20 billion have already flown in this year and this trend is expected to gain further momentum to take the size of in-bound funds to much higher level," Sikka told PTI. Sikka, who was here to chair a session on Indian asset management market during the India Investment Forum organised ahead of Modi's five-day visit which began yesterday, said that institutional investors in the US are waiting to invest in India and Prime Minister's visit was expected to give the much needed fillip in this regard. The Indian asset management industry is estimated to be worth over Rs.10 lakh crore and is expected to double in size in the next few years. There are nearly 45 fund houses, Indian and foreign, present in the country. During an event, organised by Institutional Investor Forums, several fund managers said that many of India's largest asset management firms are emerging as global players, and a few are beginning to look toward Europe and North America with a keen eye on the huge pools of assets there. They also discussed what the future of India's internal asset management industry would look like, and what role foreign asset managers will play in the development of this vital sector. Naganath Sundaresan, CEO of DSP BlackRock Investment Managers Ltd., said that investors need to take a long-term view on India. "I am pretty bullish that the Indian asset management industry will grow manifold in the long-term of about 10-15 years," he said. Sunil Singhania, Chief Investment Officer (Equity) at Reliance Capital Asset Management, said that the potential remains immense for Indian fund houses and the flow of funds remain strong. He said that India has always shown that it can come back very strongly after every bad phase and "we are seeing a robust growth trajectory ahead". George Hoguet, Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager and Global Investment Strategist at State Street Global Advisors, said that India's share in global economy is certainly going to increase and the institutional investors must make big strategic allocations to benefit from this market. Harshendu Bindal, President of Franklin Templeton Asset Management India, said that the foreign fund houses operating in India would need to think global and act local, as Indian asset management industry was highly localised in nature. — From Barun Jha & Lalit K. They say that one of the reasons the whites in America disliked the blacks earlier was because they felt weak and helpless in front of the strong, virile blacks. They were scared their women would fall for them and it was this fear that produced mobs which lynched the African-Americans in the early days. I guess the whites have got some confidence in themselves now to have put a black man in the Whitehouse! Our men need to get that same confidence in themselves, to understand every time they hide under such fears they actually show their anxiety. And you women and girls, you need to understand, these terms like ‘Love-Jihad’ are actually a slur on you! INTERVIEW
What is your role in 'Dil Dhadakne Do'? 'Dil Dhadakne Do' is a film which is predominantly dealing with relationship, whether it is between a mother and her son or a husband and his wife. It is a beautiful film with an ensemble star cast, like in 'Finding Fanny'. I am confident that like 'Finding Fanny' in which I did a brief appearance, 'Dil Dhadakne Do' also will be able to click in a big way because the audiences have become more mature these days. If they can accept Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya in 'Josh' as brother and sister after 'Devdas', I do not see any reason that they wouldn’t accept me and Priyanka Chopra in 'DDD' after she played my heroine in 'Gunday'. Tell me about Zoya Akhtar who has directed you in 'Dil Dhadakne Do'? Zoya is a very contemporary director a la Woody Allen and her plus point, like that of Woody is the way she sets out to treat interrelationship. The best thing about Zoya, Rajkumar Hirani and Reema Kagti is that they work on their scripts a lot diligently and you can get every minute detail on the
Mumbai-born Ranveer Singh (born Ranveer Bhavnani) had always wanted to be an actor since his childhood. However, during his college days he felt that the idea of acting was far-fetched and focused on creative writing. While pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University (Bloomington), Ranveer again became interested in acting and after coming back to India, he started auditioning for lead roles in the Hindi film industry. He debuted in the runaway hit movie 'Band Baaja Baraat' for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He has not looked back after that. Jyothi Venkatesh talked to the dynamic actor about his reel and real life. Excerpts.
marriage can wait’
‘My focus now is on my career, scripts that they crack. Like you can see romance between Hrithik and Katrina in her 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' or for that matter Hrithik and Konkana Sen Sharma in her film 'Luck By Chance'.
Can you elucidate? I could act with Farhan Akhtar easily in 'Dil Dhadakne Do' only because Zoya’s basic foundation is very strong as a writer and each and every actor brings something of his or her own to the table, to take the script many steps forward whether it is Farhan or Priyanka or for that matter Anushka Sharma. Zoya and I get along like a house on fire. She has inherited humility and writing from her father Javedji. I am ready to do anything for her any time, because what I like about her is that she has a fresh and unique voice and makes films which you have not seen before.
How is Govinda as an actor and how was your experience of working with him in 'Kill Dill'? Chi Chi (Govinda) is playing the role of a villain for the first time in 'Kill Dill'. For me, Govinda is still one of the most unexplored talents in the mainstream space and I feel that he would beat even Michael Jackson in a dance competition. He is so effortless and enjoys what he is doing, No one can emote like him and though he initially built his career on his ability to do comedy. Like Jim Carter in Hollywood. Like with Shaad Ali, it was again a dream that I nurtured to work with Chi Chi because I have been a very hard core fan of his. When I was in school, I was proud to be called Junior Govinda. I was born in 1985 and have idolised Govinda, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan and I feel that if any one of them praises me, it is for me, my biggest achievement Shaad Ali has directed you in 'Kill Dill'. It was a dream come true occasion for me when Shaad Ali asked me to work in 'Kill Dill' which is being produced by Yashraj Films because it was always my ardent dream to work with YRF from the time I was
just 12. Shaad is like my brother. I met him first when I was just 16 and did not even think that I would become an actor. I was lucky I could assist him in ad films before I bagged 'Band Baaja Baraat' as an actor. There is an age gap of 10 years between both of us and for me 'Kill Dill' isn’t just a film because Shaad is more than just a brother for me. Shaad is king of kisch and theatrics, he makes wonderful high energy films. For the first time after doing a high drama in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Ram Leela', with Shaad I could do a normal film like 'Kill Dill'. I was able to cross over to that school and crack it easily. I did not have to act but just be what I am in the new kind of space.
You actually wanted to be a writer and director and not an actor. Why? That is only because there was a lot of nepotism in the film industry earlier, even ten years ago. Though I thought I’d become a writer, it was Shaad who actually told me that I should not give up on my dreams because he felt that I had what it takes. You need a kind of validation too and Shaad gave me that when he planted the idea in my head that I should take up acting. It was he who employed me as his assistant when I asked him for work and he was the one who sent me to Makrand Deshpande and asked him to employ me on the stage. What next, after 'Dil Dhadakne Do' and 'Kill Dill'? I am eagerly waiting for the launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Bajirao Mastani'. I am on a good wicket now and in the most crucial phase of my career as an actor especially after winning accolades for my performance in 'Lootera'. You either become complacent or the way I have gone – for the better with more hunger for my craft. ollywood actress Kajol says she had a memorable stint at the United Nations where her campaign 'Help A Child Reach 5' was appreciated by the dignitaries.
The 40-year-old actress, who was on her second visit to UN General Assembly summit, said the response was phenomenal this year more people chose to talk about the importance of hand washing. "The response was fabulous. I came here last year as well and this year even more people were talking about it, coming up to you and appreciating the initiative. We got a way more attention than what we expected," Kajol told PTI over phone from New York. The newly launched Lifebuoy's Handwash campaign, fronted by Kajol, aims at eradicating preventable deaths like diarrhoea by propagating lifesaving hand washing habits. "The great part is that handwashing is the basic thing. It's the first step. You had everybody talking about communicable disease and they all understand the importance of it. More than 40 per cent of children at the age group of zero to two are more vulnerable to diseases," she said. The mother of two had also joined microblogging site Twitter to promote the cause as she feels social media is important to push things.

"In Allahabad my father was very strict and I remember once I played with dirt and it was messy so he scolded me and asked me to clean everything. He was very strict about all this. Even now if I am responsible for any dirty thing at home I am the one to clean it without asking for any body's help," he said. Bachchan also assured that he will be working for this project till the time things change.

fter delivering many hits in her career, actress Katrina Kaif says she is lucky that most of her films have performed well at the box office. Katrina, 31, who has given many successful films including 'Dhoom 3', 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and 'Raajneeti', said box-office numbers do matter to her. "Box office success does matter to me. Everyone wants their films to do well. Because you have worked hard. As an actress one craves for that acceptance. I am super fortunate that I have not seen the other side. "My films mostly have done well at the box office and I have a lot of gratitude and happiness. I just hope that continues with my next film too. When your film doesn't do well after so much of hard work there is a heartbreak and it's not a good feeling," Katrina said. Often touted as the number one actress in the industry, Katrina says she considers herself lucky that the audience have accepted her.

Tell us something about yourself. Born in Chandigarh, to an army officer, I began my schooling in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir and continued my education in The Army Public School in Delhi. here was a cartoon panel going around on the net, which showed a man intently staring at the phone in his hands, and the woman sitting across the table, telling him to strap the phone on her forehead—that way he would at least look at her. A newspaper report said that young people today don’t even use words to communicate, just images and emojis. At a time when social media rules, Max Nichols’ Two Night Stand gets two people to have a conversation, even if it takes a blizzard to do it. Megan (Analeigh Tipton), moping around the house, jobless and loveless, is advised by her roommate (Jessica Szohr), to have a one night stand. Megan goes on to the net to look for a hook-up and finds Alec (Miles Teller), who seems the least undesirable (as opposed to greatly desirable). Both are clear that they don’t want anything more than a casual encounter. The morning after is not all dreamily romantic—they can’t stand each other. After exchanging some barbs, she walks out in a huff, only to find that they are snowed in. Trapped in Alec’s apartment, there’s nothing to do but talk. It’s a stagey, one-location setting mostly, and the words that flow are not all witty and wise, but there are some truths about modern day lifestyles, relationships and what men and women expect from each

other when the traditional rules no longer apply. The one night stand expanding into something more has been done before, but this film taps into the behaviour and mindset of today’s twenty somethings, who are not looking for fairy tale romance, perhaps because they no longer
believe in the eternal; it’s all here and now, and who cares about tomorrow. With some sharper writing, it could have been poignant and funny, but it remains at a superficial level, rescued, as so many films are, by the sparkling performances of its two young stars. Even better, it makes you reach out to one of the great classic romances of the past, which still have the power to touch the soul.

cott Derrickson has made films like Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, so knows his way around the horror genre. In Deliver Us From Evil, he deftly blends religion, horror, cops and the always effective tag line that says it’s based on a true story. The police officer who claimed in a 2001 memoir, that all this actually happened on his beat is Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana). He works with his wisecracking partner Butler (Joel McHale) in the Bronx area, where they act on a domestic disturbance call and then hear of another incident of a mother throwing her infant into the lion pit at the zoo. Before he can dismiss the case as a woman going berserk, strange things happen, and Jesuit priest, Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) insists there is more to the case than the cops can see. Other crimes occur that point to the supernatural. Scary and violent things happen at random and

He uses all the tricks in the horror genre—scary basements, blood, gore, creepy people, spooky sounds, all topped up with religious imagery—to come up with a really chilling film, with appropriately moody atmosphere that suggest that anything can happen, and whatever happens will be unpleasant. And it all begins during the Iraq war, make of that what you will. In spite of its hokey premise, Deliver Us From Evil, has everything a horror movie fan would expect, plus some.

ithout a doubt, Akshay Kumar is one of the fittest actors in the industry. He isn’t afraid of pushing the envelope and is known to be proficient in different sports. He comes with a background in martial arts and is extremely agile and disciplined. Even while shooting for Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Baby’ in Abu Dhabi, Akshay would religiously wake up by 4.10 am to work out at the gym for two hours. He then shoots all day and then trains in boxing in the evening for his next film. He is currently doing a core training using wooden beads which he picked up from Singapore. These 50 wooden beads weigh around three kilos and is useful in strengthening the spine. Akshay is thoroughly impressed with this form of training and recommends this for a complete workout. This could be the foundation for the next health trend in India.

Sarchie starts getting hallucinations and a kind of bizarre terror stalks his home and scares his wife (Olivia Munn) and their little daughter. The lapsed Catholic cop starts to believe in the sozzled priest’s warnings about demonic possession. Derrickson does not be-
the idea. Educating people about the ills of driving under influence is their primary concern, but spreading awareness about other means of road safety is also part of their agenda. Hrithik and the team of his upcoming film, Bang Bang, received extensive support from the Delhi Police during the shooting
schedule of their film in the city. The team is grateful to the force for making the shoot hassle free. It was a big team, so the security of every member was a big concern. It has been shot in a real haunted location (a mill) in Byculla (South Mumbai). “The script has been written in such a way that you will naturally have a sense of fear as the story proceeds. We haven’t used any cheap gimmick like witch and scantlyclad women dancing to create nervousness,” Ranvijay said. The film is about a guy, who loses his love interest played by Anindita Nayar,
and sets out to explore the supernatural world to reconnect with her. Ranvijay says it was good to share screen space with Anindita. “She was very nice. She had no tantrums. We had a lot of fun while shooting because the crew were bunch of boys. Anindita also used to behave like a boy with us. We shot the film in just 28 days and when you have such a fun-loving crew things become easy,“ he said.

L
OS ANGELES: 'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart is reportedly dating Nicholas Hoult after the pair bonded on the set of their new movie 'Equals'. The duo, both 24, are said to be inseparable after spending time together on and off the set of their new movie and are constantly hanging out in between takes playing pranks on the film crew, reported Hollywood Life. "Kristen and Nick are inseparable. They are constantly hanging out together when they aren't on set. They've really bonded with each other and are like best friends now. It wouldn't surprise any if us if it turns into something more serious, something romantic," a source said. "When Kristen is on location for long periods of time, she usually has a good friend come stay with her but not this time cause she has
Nick. "They love playing practical jokes on the cast and crew, playing pool, just exploring and hanging out," the source added.
Mamet's sharp, trademark dialogue. "After her first audible prompt, which came shortly after the interval, the audience sat patiently. The second led to titters in the stalls. Unfortunately for Lohan, the next line delivered by Richard Schiff (Toby from 'The West Wing') was: 'You have done a fantastic job!' The laughter grew louder," a viewer said. She had earlier confessed before the show that she was worried about the amount of lines she had in the second half of the play, because of the time period between her acting.
ONDON: Actor Miles Teller says he felt dead inside while filming 'Divergent'. The 27-year-old actor has spoken about his experience on the young adult adaptation and his latest film 'Whiplash', reported Digital Spy. "I was feeling dead inside as I didn't have an interesting part in 'Divergent', and I'd taken the film for business reasons. It was the first movie I'd done that was going to have an international audience. "I called my agent and said, 'This sucks'. He told me about 'Whiplash'," Teller said. 'Whiplash' follows a young jazz drummer (Teller) fighting to succeed in an exclusive conservatory. The tutelage of his ruthless instructor (JK Simmons) might either make or break him. The film won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for the US dramatic category at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

ONDON: Actor Shia Labeouf completed a museum marathon in Amsterdam, Holland as part of a bizarre performance art piece. The 28-year-old bearded 'Transformers' star donned a green vest and purple leggings as he completed 144 laps around the Stedelijk Museum, running a total of 43.25 km alongside fellow artists Nastja Sade Ronkko and Luke Turner, reported BBC online. LaBeouf said nothing to the onlookers and press who had gathered to witness the odd sporting feat, dubbed the Metamarathon, but programme curator Hendrik Folkerts revealed the run was staged to highlight the 12-hour conference about art and social media, which was taking place inside the building. "As we are having a 'marathon' conference inside the Stedelijk, we also wanted a reflection of that outside. Nobody can do it better than Shia,” Folkerts said.

DOMINOES 328
17
A normal set of dominoes — that is, one instance of every (unordered) pair of numbers from 0 to 6 — has been arranged irregularly into a rectangle; then the number in each square has been writen down and the dominoes themselves removed. Your task is to reconstruct the pattern by arranging the set of dominoes to match the provided array of numbers. Please note that each domino is a unique one and occurs only once in each puzzle.
SMILE AWHILE CODE WORDS 211
In each puzzle every letter of the alphabet has been replaced by a number; the same number represents the same letter throughout the puzzle. To start you off, we give you three letters and the numbers which have replaced them. When you’ve filled in these letters throughout the puzzle you’ll have enough clues to start guessing words and discovering other letters. To help you keep track, as you find a letter, slot it into the grid provided and cross it off the list. To help you keep track, as you find a letter, slot it into the grid provided and cross it off the list.
An old man is met by his attorney, and is told he is going to be audited. He rides to the IRS office with his attorney, and when he gets there, he begins to talk with the IRS agent. "I bet $2,000 I can bite my own eye!" The IRS agent agrees to the bet, believing it an impossible task. The old man laughs, pulls out his glass eye, and bites it. The IRS agent is dumbfounded. The old man bets $3,000 he can bite his other eye. The IRS agent knows there's no way possible to do this, so he once more agrees. The old man cackles, pulls out his dentures, and bites his eye. Then the old man finally wagers, "I bet $20,000 I can stand on the far side of your desk, pee over the desk, and get it into your wastebasket, without missing a single drop." The agent knows he won't be able to, so once more he agrees. The old man indeed misses, peeing all over the desk, and on the paperwork. The IRS agent jumps for joy, but then notices the attorney over in the corner moaning. "Are you all right?" asks the agent. "No! On the way over here, he bet me $400,000 he could pee on your desk and you'd be happy about it!"
HITORI 328
The objective of Hitori is to mark out the incorrect cells. The rules are: a) A Number may never appear more than once in each row or column. b) Marked or incorrect cells are never adjacent in a row or a column. c) Unmarked cells create a single continuous area, undivided by marked cells.

TetraVex is a challenging brain teaser. The object of the game is to fill the grid with the tiles so that the patterns on the adjacent edges of each tile match, much like aligning domino tiles. The object of the game is to place all the tiles in the grid so that the figures on the adjacent edges of each tile match. You can place any tile anywhere in the grid, but you cannot place a tile in the grid if its edges do not match all of its neighbors. Find a digit that occurs only once on a given puzzle. You know that this digit must lie along the outer edge of the grid, since there are no other tiles that can match it. You can simplify solving by cutting out the nine squares and juggling them in the grid.

NCHEON: India produced an inspired performance to thrash Malaysia 6-1 in their last Pool A match and qualify for the semi-finals of the women's hockey competition. For India, Rani Rampal (4th minute, 20th) and Jaspreet Kaur (9th, 39th) score two goals each, while Namita Toppo (17th) and Vandana Kataria (50th) were the other goal getters. Malaysia's lone goal was scored by skipper Nadia Abdul Rahman from a penalty corner. Indian eves in all likelihood will face last edition's silver medallist Korea in the semi-finals on Sunday as the hosts are presently leading Pool B and are expected to finish as the toppers. The Indians had to raise their game after the close 1-2 loss against defending champions China in their last match and they did just that. The Indian eves came out with purpose and controlled the game from the onset with brisk passing. It took the Indians just four minutes to surge ahead when Rani scored from a field effort before Jaspreet doubled the lead five minutes later by converting a penalty corner. Just

Sailors Varsha-Aishwarya still in medal race By SS Ramaswamy
I
NCHEON: Young Indian women sailors Varsha Gautham and Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan occupied third after eighth rounds in the 29er class competition despite being disqualified in the seventh race in the Asian Games sailing competition. The Indian duo, who led a small bunch of six teams after six races yesterday, finished third in the seventh race but were disqualified later to pick up seven penalty points after one of the competing teams, Malaysia, protested against one of their manoeuvres and it was upheld by the race organisers at Wangsan Sailing Marina. But, a third-place finish in the eighth race put them on third with four more rounds to go into the competition. "The protest against us by Malaysia was upheld after we finished third in the seventh race," team manager Commander K D Singh told PTI. Asked about the duo's chances now, he said since the margin separating the top three teams in the class was small, anything can happen over the last four races. Thailand duo of N Poonpat and Waiwai Nichapa led the field with 12 penalty points, followed by
Singapore (13.0 penalty points). India were third with 16 while Malaysia, who spoilt the Indians' day, were fourth after accumulating 10 more penalty points. Indian sailors continued to be in the middle or rear of the pack in four other class of races. In the men's Optimist (one person) dinghy, 12-year-old Chitresh Tatha was maintaining the sixth place out of 10 competitors with 39 net penalty points after coming in fifth in both the races held today. In the corresponding women's class, India's
Ramya Sarvanan slipped down a rung from yesterday's position and was lying seventh out of eight competitors with 43 net penalties after one discard. After the eighth race in the women's laser radial class, a one-person dinghy, Nethra Kumanan was still lying seventh with 42 net penalties. In the Hobie 16 Open multihull class of two-person boats, India's men's pair of Brijraj Verma and Pankaj Kumar were maintaining fifth position, out of nine teams, with a net penalty point tally of 32. SHOOTERS STRIKE
THE SILVER SPOT
Indian men end pistol shooting with silver in 25m centre fire By SS Ramaswamy
I
NCHEON: Indian men ended their campaign in the pistol events on a winning note by shooting down a silver medal in the 25m centre fire event even as the women's team exited from the 50m three-position competition without success at the Asian Games. The men pistol shooters – spearheaded by London Olympic Games silver medallist Vijay Kumar – clinched the second place with a total score of 1740, two behind gold medallists China. Had the Mhow-based army men's trio, made up of Kumar, Pemba Tamang and Gurpreet Singh, equalled the Chinese, they would have secured a gold as their number of inner tens was much higher than their formidable rivals. Vijay took part here despite being troubled by cer-

vical spondylitis for which he is set to undergo surgery soon after returning home. It was the eighth medal that the shooters have won from the Games, made up of one gold, one silver and six bronze medals, all but two of them coming in team events. Barring Jitu Rai, only Abhinav Bindra has managed to win an individual medal
in Incheon, an indication of how competitive the shooting competition has been. Tamang was better in the Precision round scoring a brilliant 99, but was slightly off the mark in the subsequent Rapid fire when he shot 97 to earn the 8th spot with a tally of 581. He was followed by Gurpreet (580, 9th) and Kumar (579, 12th).
Tamang, hailing Arunachal Pradesh, said he made an extra effort and tried very hard to fetch India the medal. "I am very happy with the team silver after we as a team missed the bronze by a whisker (by virtue of shooting lesser inner tens) in the 25m standard pistol," said the father of two young children.
"I have started to love shooting after I joined the Army Marksmanship Unit in Mhow and I want to make both my children take up this sport," he said. Gurpreet, whose two rounds fetched him scores of 95 and 97, said it was the last match and he was happy to be returning home with at least one medal from the Games.
seven minutes. The sixth-seeded Saina started on an aggressive note but Yihan used clever angled strokes to make the Hyderabadi girl move around the court and then finished points with her deceptive drops as she took 11-8 lead at the break. Saina kept herself within touching distance as she picked four points on the trot from 11-15 to not only claw back but wrest the lead 16-15. The duo was then engaged in an energy-sapping rally which Saina won with a brilliant net play and carried on the momentum to win a closely contested opening game. The Indian, however, could not maintain the aggression, even as Yihan
surged ahead 8-5. Both the shuttlers found it hard to judge the shuttle due to the drift in the court. At 510, Saina earned another point but she hit wide to allow Yihan to go into the interval at 11-5. A couple of sharp smashes by Yihan swelled her lead and Saina's unforced errors gave the Chinese a cushion of 17-8 points. Saina completely failed to control the shuttle and soon trailed 8-20. Another rally and an easy point saw Yihan roar back into the contest. The third game looked like a mere formality as Yihan dictated terms to pocket the match and end Saina's misery, even as coach Vimal Kumar looked on with disappointment.

Worked hard for this, it's a dream come true: Sejwal By SS Ramaswamy
NCHEON: Only the fourth Indian to clinch a swimming medal in the Asian Games, Sandeep Sejwal today said his bronze in the 50m breaststroke event here is a dream realised after eight years of hard work with his coach Nihar Ameen. "I shifted from Delhi to Bangalore eight years ago and worked very hard. I have always wanted to win a medal in the Asian Games. It's a dream come true. If I had not won the medal today, I would have felt the time I had spent in Bangalore was a waste," the 25-year-old Sejwal told reporters here. Sejwal, drawn in lane 5, was leading till the 40metre mark before he fell behind Kazakhstan's Dmitry Balandin and Japan's Yasuko Koseki to clinch the third place in 28.26s, after having clocked a 28.25s in the semifinal heats earlier today to qualify for the evening finals. The bronze won by Sejwal is only the fourth -- after Sachin Nag's gold in the men's 100m freestyle in the inaugural Asian Games in Delhi (1951), Khazan Singh's silver in the 200m butterfly in 1986 at Seoul and Virdhawal Khade's bronze four years ago at Guangzhou in the 100m butterfly -- medal for the country in the core sport of swimming. "Four years ago Virdhawal won a bronze. Today I have also won. I feel very proud. I have spoken to my mom after winning the bronze," said Sejwal.

ARROWS OFF TARGET Indian recurve archers disappoint, women's team still in fray
The trio of Deepika Kumari, L Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi blanked Uzbekistan 6-0 before recording a close 5-4 win over Taipei in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Indian women are now up against formidable hosts Korea. at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea on Friday.
I
NCHEON: The fancied Indian recurve archers cut a sorry figure in the individual events but the country is still in with a chance of bagging a bronze medal in the women's team category in the 17th Asian Games, here. The women recurve team comprising Deepika Kumari, L Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi is still in fray for a medal as they could make it to the semifinals. Although they were thrashed 0-6 by favourites South Korea in the last four stage, the Indians now will be up against Japan in the bronze medal play-off match on Sunday. The Indian trio, who blanked Uzbekistan 6-0 before recording a close 5-4 win over
Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals earlier in the day, were proved to be no match to the Koreans, who won 6-0 (56-50 58-54 56-54) to book their final berth comfortably. Unlike their female counterparts, it was curtains for the men's recurve team in the elimination round as they suffered a close 3-5 defeat against Hong Kong. The India men's team comprising Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai and Jayanta Talukdar lost the deciding fourth set by a narrow margin of one point (52-53) to crash out of the event. After losing the first set 53-54 to Chun Man Chui, Kar Wai Calvin Lee and Hing Kin Ma, the Indians won the second 54-42, while the third ended in a tie 54-54.
Sanam moves to singles quarters
NCHEON: Sanam Singh recovered from a sluggish start to move to the men's singles quarterfinals in the tennis competition of the Asian Games as he posted a convincing straight sets win over Korea's higherranked Hyeon Chung. Sanam, ranked as low as 397, beat the home favourite Chung 7-5 6-1 the third round, which lasted in one hour and 24 minutes at Yeorumul Tennis Courts. Sanam was trailing 1-4 in the opening set but turned the match on its head by reeling off four games on the trot to take lead. Sanam stood out with audacious cross court winners. The fighting spirit kept the Chandigarh lad going despite making a poor start. 190th ranked Chung, who earlier was dominating with his solid serve, was now feeling the heat as started to make a lot of unforced errors. Sanam closed the contest
I
when Chung failed to return a ferocious forehand from the Indian. One more win would assure Sanam at least a bronze medal.
Mane tied third, moves into medal contention
Indian golfer Udayan Mane tamed the windy conditions to put himself in medal contention with a superb sixunder 66, which left him tied third midway through the Asian Games golf tournament.
