he Agripada Police and Crime Branch unit have claimed to have solved the abduction case of a wellknown builder's teenage son after arresting five accused in this connection. The five men allegedly abducted the teenager at knife point on Saturday evening and demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom money. Interestingly, the teenager himself arranged the ransom money from three of his friends and handed it over to the young abductors, who then freed him just hours after the money was arranged. The case was solved after arresting the five accused, including a friend of the victim's.
According to police sources, Faiz Abdul Sheikh (19), Raibar Qureshi (19), Shahbaz Imtiaz Sheikh (19) Harish Khan (19) and Riyaz Khan (20), have been identified as the abductors. The first three were caught by the Crime Branch, while the rest were apprehended by the Agripada police. According to the police, Harish Khan knew the 17year-old victim who has been studying in Class 12 at an international high school in Powai. Harish had, on Saturday, asked the victim, a resident South Mumbai, to meet him near Classic Tower in Agripada. While he was waiting for Harish, Faiz, Raibar and Shahbaz pounced on him, threatened him with a knife
before pushing him into a taxi. The trio had allegedly threatened him to arrange Rs 10 lakh or face the dire consequences. The victim was specifically asked to arrange money through his friends and not to inform his parents, suspecting the family would alert the cops. While the victim dialed his friends seeking monetary help, the accused kept the taxi moving and drove him to various locations in the city to hoodwink the police. The vehicle stopped at three locations – Dadar, BKC and Khar – from where the victim collected different amounts from three of his friends and arranged Rs 10 Continued on pg 8 «
Sena: Drop ‘secular’, ‘socialist’ from Constitution Preamble By Prashant Hamine
S
hiv Sena yesterday jumped in swirling controversy over the picture of the old preamble of our Constitution that had no mention of the words “secular” and “socialist” in the advertisements issued by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry to mark the Republic Day. Speaking to newspersons yesterday, senior Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut demanded the permanent deletion of the two words from the constitution. The Sena MP remarked that the Sena welcomed the exclusion of the two words from the Republic Day advertisement issued by the I&B Ministry. Raut said that though it might have been done inadvertently, it was like honouring the feelings of countless of majority Indians. If the words were deleted by
Sanjay Raut mistake then they should be deleted from the Constitution permanently. Raut pointed out that late Sena chief Bal Thackeray, and late freedom fighter Veer Savarkar before him, have always maintained that India was divided on the religious
line. Pakistan was created for Muslims and this country remains a Hindu Rashtra. He added that the minority community has been used only for political gains, while the Hindus have been continuously disrespected. Raut further contended that nowhere in the constitution it has been written that you mete out such treatment to Hindus and use Muslims to garner votes. The Sena MP stated that this mistake on the part of the government has happened only because destiny wanted this to happen. Modi is the Prime Minister of India, and his thoughts on Hindutva are strong. A war of words broke out between political parties yesterday when an advertisement issued by the I&B Ministry carried a picture of the Preamble to the Constitution as it appeared before the 42nd amendment, without the words “secular” and “socialist”.
