ndian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will launch an online shopping portal by the end of this year. The goods will include footwear, mobiles, clothes and other necessities. IRCTC website is one of the biggest online transaction websites with a revenue flow of approximately Rs.31 crore through sales of railway tickets. IRCTC will be coming up with the new venture in associ-

The conference was held to discuss future strategies for realising the full tourism potential of the country. Presenting the state’s commitment to the tourism sector, Chhagan Bhujbal, state minister for tourism, invited the South Indian superstar to inaugurate the state-of-the-art Visitors Information Centre at Ajanta and Ellora which is scheduled to be opened in September this year. The safety of tourists was one of the major issues discussed at the conference and Bhujbal said, “Maharashtra has already been declared the safest state, and Mumbai is the safest city in the country. Tourism police were trained and deployed by state nearly eight years back at important tourist centres and monuments. Even so, the Mumbai police has always tried innovative ways through PPP model to handle tourists.” “We appreciate the work of Maharashtra towards development of infrastructure. I have been discussing plans with the Surface Transport Ministry for the development of wayside amenities like toilets, refreshments, and similar infrastructure to boost tourism,” Chiranjeevi said. The last telegram
IT is one of those things we kept intending to do – send a telegram to ourselves or get someone to do so, just so we had some evidence that this form of communication ever existed. We never did. So we were delighted indeed to be the the recipient of not one but two telegrams, sent out on July 14, the very last day before the Indian ‘taar’ winked into oblivion. One was from Vijay Jain, CEO of Orra, the other from friend Margaret, intriguingly without the surname. Thank you sir, and madam! Amusingly, one arrived on July 16, the other on July 17, but of course we have no intention of complaining about the delay – there were thousands of others with exactly the same idea and July 14 was an enormously busy day for the Central telegraph office. We particularly liked Margaret’s, because it was quintessentially the Indian telegram, punctuation all

45-year-old man exposed serious flaws in the banking system when he managed to withdraw Rs.5,70,000 from a bank by using a Pay Order slip of just Rs.900. The bank manager and staff of the city-based Kunavi Sahakari Sanstha Bank, with its branch in Kandivli’s Ashok Nagar, were shocked when they came to know that an amount of Rs.5,70,000 had been paid from their account into that of Pune branch of the Karur Vysya Bank. Around two days ago, they received a cheque for Rs.5,70,000 from Pune branch of the Karur Vysya Bank seeking payment of the amount. When bank manager Atmaram Kamble and other bank officials cross-checked the initial numbers of the

58-year-old woman suffering from health related problems was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her residence at Kalakunj Society in Charkop early morning on Friday. The woman, identified as Luis George Swami, was found hanging from a fan by her 17-year-old son when he came back from his school.
The son immediately called the police control room and neighbours. According to Police Sub Inspector from Charkop Police station, G. Bhosle, “Luis hanged herself by her chunni. She was quite depressed since after the death of her husband, who passed away around eight years ago.” “After her husband’s death, her brother-in-law

n Thursday night an 18year-old computer class teacher was raped by some unidentified accused for over two hours in Dombivli’s Pisavali area. The police have started a hunt for the accused. The teacher was returning home from her coaching class in Pisavali village in Dombivli East and was passing through a deserted area which falls on
her way to home at around 9.30 p.m. when someone hidden in the bushes dragged her inside. The assailant raped her for over two hours before letting her go. The assailant warned the girl that she would face dire consequences if she told anyone of the incident. However, the girl told her parents of her ordeal. The family immediately lodged a case of rape with Manpada police station against un-
known accused. Since the attack took place in the dark, the girl was unable to positively identify the attacker. There have been demands from both public and police officials in Dombivli to put up street lights during the night but as yet no action has been taken up by the civic authorities in Dombivli. An official from Manpada police station said, “We have started a manhunt for the accused.”

o protest the delay in tabling the HIV/AIDS Bill, Mumbai AIDS Forum, a forum of networks of people living with HIV, sexual minority and civil society groups from across Mumbai, Thane and Raigad district gathered outside the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) and Maharashtra State AIDS Control Organisation (MSACS) and demanded that the Bill be tabled in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament. After being finalised in July 2006, the Bill was sent to the Law Ministry in August 2007. After the Bill got clearance in 2010 from the Law Ministry and it was sent back to the Health Ministry, it has just been moving between the Health Ministry and the Law Ministry and has not been tabled in the Parliament.

The move has been necessitated as the flood waters have breached the thermal power plant complex forcing the company to shut down the generating units. In a statement issued here yesterday stated that although the natural disaster has affected the power generation all out efforts are being made on war footing to rectify the damage caused. The heavy downpour is also causing problems in supply of coal to units one and two of the thermal power plant. The engineers and support staff are trying their level best to keep the two generating units in operation. With another major thermal power plant at Parli in Marathwada region being shut for want of water, the thermal power generation of Mahagenco has taken a hit. The company argues that during the monsoon

season there is less demand for power and most of the required power is generated from Hydro, Nuclear and other sources. The natural disaster comes against the backdrop of the BJP-Shiv Sena opposition in the legislative council alleging corruption that not a single MW of power has been added despite Mahagenco investing heavily in expansion of power projects. A charge denied by Deputy Chief Minister and Energy minister Ajit Pawar who counter challenged the opposition in accepting a probe. In a statement issued here yesterday Mahagenco stated that flood waters gushed into the Chandrapur thermal power plant, the generating units had to be shut. The vicinity of the thermal power plant witnessed 268 mm rainfall which is above the average rainfall during this time of the monsoon season. The statement adds that during monsoon season the generating units at the thermal power plants are taken out for overhauling purposes. As part of the exercise two units of 210 MWs and 500 MWs are being overhauled.

Make mid-meal T clean and safe I
T has become clear that the midday meal scheme — the biggest, even anywhere in the world, has not produced the desired results. The scheme was launched with good intentions: It was to attract kids to school and avoid drop-outs. It was a God-sent scheme for poor parents. There have been complaints with regard to, not only bad and dangerous meals, but also about tasteless and dirty food. Across the country, there have been complaints about this, but the authorities have done precious little to give the kids wholesome, tasty and clean food. Maybe the authorities think that the poor have no right to complain. The worst ever mid-day meal tragedy occurred in Bihar, but during the same time there have been reports of contamination of meals. Cooking is done in most unhygienic places and sub-standard substances are used. In Tamil Nadu, over 100 kids felt giddy after eating their mid-day meal: They had to be hospitalised. In Uttar Pradesh in one school, a lizard was found in the cooked food. Parents are naturally worried. In Bihar, after the gruesome incident, parents are saying that they do not want to send kids to school. The very purpose of attracting children to schools will be defeated if eating a mid-day meal results in death of the kids.

Sushma Swaraj, leader of the opposition in parliament wanted to know where the ‘motamaal’ collected in the coal blocks sale to private parties has gone. It is certain that the money has been collected by some persons or parties. Sushma Swaraj has hinted that the money from the coalgate might have gone to some political party. All political parties collect funds. They want money for day-to-day expenditure incurred by the party and mainly, for poll campaigns. A candidate cannot win an election without spending huge funds. By hook or by crook, a political party has to collect money — crores of rupees.

The corporate sector also gives donations. The Congress party has more funds in the kitty than other parties. It would appear that the Congress has able, experienced money collectors. It can be presumed that no party reveals the actual funds it has. It does this because it

does not want to be involved in inconvenient explanations. Money plays an important part in the success of a candidate to Lok Sabha or assembly elections. All parties offer freebies to voters: Laptop, sarees, sewing machines, return of all gold ornaments used to raise loans, free supply of foodgrains. They cannot be bought from taxpayers’ money: There will be a hue and cry if this is done. The money can come only from

Scrap the evil midday meal scheme IT is indeed a sad state of affairs in India that the food served in the midday meal scheme does carry poison resulting in death of 27 children. It may be a stray case but the food given to children is of poor quality without any checking for taste or purity before they are served. At times when food grains shortage is there, they simply avoid serving food also. At a time when tons of wheat is rotting in the godowns of Food Corporation of India for want of space, we show disparity to children. Several states are ill-equipped to serve children hygienic meals that are also nutritious and health for the growth of the children. In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, corruption occupies top spot and so no one is ready to check the quality of the midday meals. Is this food security? And no politician can answer this question. It is a sorry state of affairs and the Centre should do something to block this

WITH reports coming from all over the country of children falling ill after eating the midday meals in their schools—-over 100 children fell sick in a school in Neyveli, the Lignite town in Tamil Nadu—it is abundantly clear that this scheme is in fact an unwanted baby, thrust on the schools for taking care of. Strictly speaking, the schools are not expected to provide meals to the children and their only job is to conduct the classes properly with qualified teachers. For implementing the midday meal scheme, the schools have to arrange for separate kitchens, cooks and proper rooms to store the provisions. That’s unwanted added responsibility for the

Indeed, to hear the somewhat scintillating sound, we children, during recess time used to run to the railway station near our school and would jostle outside the Station Master’s cabin. Later on, I joined the Army Signal Corps by which time the sound had been electro-magnetically changed into: ‘dah dit dahdah/ dit dit dah’, etc. Such a style of writing is especially needed for the military so that communication becomes brief. Regional political parties trying to exploit big fish’s loss of credibility People vs Rulers - III R ECENT court pronouncements are virtually nullifying progressive measures such as reservations in promotions. The social contract envisaged in the Constitution is coming under stress. A decisive break from the policy of reforms and a move towards a new paradigm of people-centric development based on social solidarity will provide a conducive environment to relieve this stress. But it must be recognised that no struggle for transformation of our society and polity will be meaningful unless it adopts the annihilation of caste and caste injustice as a goal in itself. The situations of deep alienation and seething discontent have been exploited by the ruling classes to strengthen their armoury of black laws and anti-democratic measures to intimidate and suppress all democratic dissent which is an inevitable consequence of the economic, political and diplomatic policies pursued by the ruling classes. The space for democratic dissent is being circumscribed and narrowed. Police apparatus is

of the prevailing economic, political and social order. The current political scene is marked by loss of credibility on the part of the ruling combine of political parties as well as the opposition. Barring the parties of the Left, whose parliamentary strength has been reduced considerably, none of the regional parties have any alternative political vision. Therefore, even if they benefit because of the weakening of the main political combines and thus succeed in acquiring greater share of power after the upcoming General Elections, little can be expected from them. On the other hand, unstable and opportunist combinations may only strengthen the prospect of the main combines after disillusionment with such experiment. That would only give a further lease of life to the ruling classes. However, with the rising discontent among the popular classes, such dispensation cannot last
long. In the circumstances, there is a clear possibility that the ruling classes adopt more and more anti-democratic measures in the name of maintaining “law and order” and “stability” and prolong their hold on power. The other possibility is that the discontent of the popular classes is organised politically on the basis of a clear alternative vision and programme rooted in peoples’ concerns, through a radical, inclusive and broad democratic political formation. Indeed, this is the only ultimately viable political strategy. It is time that all parties, movements, groups and individuals who are in broad agreement with the forgoing analysis and are willing to adopt the political strategy get together to create such a political platform. said that there was no evidence of Narendra Modi being communal. His statement virtually created a flutter across India especially in the social field. Against this backdrop, Anna preferred to clarify his stand about the BJP and Modi. Anna made it clear that he had never praised the Gujarat Chief Minister. “I didn't say that Modi is not commu-
nal. I said I cannot say whether he is or not. I have not come across any evidence suggesting that Modi is a communal leader. What I said was misinterpreted. I want to make it clear that the whole agenda of BJP is communal”, he pointed out. Putting a question mark on Modi’s candidature for the Prime Ministerial post, Anna said, “In the present
situation there is no credible PM candidate from any political party in our country. But why talk of Modi or Rahul Gandhi? The fact is, as long as the Prime Minister is affiliated to a political party, the country won’t get the right leadership.” Anna also clarified that he will not support the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Admi Party (AAP) as it is also a political outfit.
500 families of cops get eviction notice in Thane T
he Thane police commissionerate has issued notices to family members of more than 500 policemen to vacate their houses which have been declared dangerous and not fit for occupation. Those served the notice earlier this week are in a fix as the schools and colleges of children have already started for the year and shifting the places at this stage will invite several problems, according to some policemen who received the eviction notices. The quarters for policemen were constructed by
Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) in 1972-73, which house a total of 556 tenements. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which conducted the structural audit of the buildings, declared that these over 37year-old structures were dilapidated and not fit for occupation, reports PTI. Based on the report of the MMRDA earlier, Thane Police Chief K.P. Raghuvanshi wrote to the state chief secretary to allot flats to police-
men in the rental houses constructed for MHADA in Thane. Some of the families said if the government could provide shelter to slum Pic for representational purposes only

with his idea and vision to make a film with uncompromising integrity without worrying about financial implications is what makes this one special. That Bollywood power centre appreciated and picked up the film for release is a happy off shoot of the director’s self-confidence. There was every chance that the film would remain confined to the festival circuit, winning awards or accolades but languishing in the cans afterwards. Now audiences, at least in cities, will see the film if only to figure out why Kiran Rao is supporting it; chances are they might be moved by it, and tell their friends. Sleeper hits are made by word of mouth and perhaps genuinely positive reviews. The title of the film is from a philosophical paradox that asks if a ship has all its parts replaced, does it remain the same ship. Gandhi tells the story of three people who are affected in different ways when they receive an organ donation. A blind photographer (Aida Elkashef), a Jain monk (Neeraj Kabi) and a stock brother Navin (Sohum Shah, also the producer) go through lifealtering experiences, as the audience is drawn completely into their dilemmas. The stories connect in a natural and somehow ennobling way, leaving the viewer emotionally stirred. Written with feeling, directed with skill and beautifully shot, the film benefits enormously by having unknown faces in the cast. It allows the viewer to forget it’s fiction and believe in the characters. If the audience also supports the film the way the producers and distributors have, then Gandhi’s work will be validated. But even without prosaic notions of box-office success, Ship Of Theseus is a hit.

T
HE film is another attempt by studios to bring in classic fairytales, twist them a little and make them into action flicks with Snow White… and Red Riding Hood being recent attempts. In a similar vein is the familiar German Brothers Grimm fairytale Hansel & Gretel. With a clever plot, the film is loosely based on the children’s story, but this time there are no kids. They are instead replaced by siblings who are into adulthood and have a successful career in witch hunting, thereby making this version suitable for viewers over 15 years of age. The story kicks off like the age old tale – a brother and sister are abandoned by their father in the woods, find a house made of candy and enter only to be captured and put in a cage by a witch who tries to fatten them up. The duo fights their way out and ultimately ends up throwing the witch into an oven. Years later, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Aterton) who play the adult version of the story, try to trace their parents’ past and stumble on a heady dose of witches and magic. Several children have disappeared from the village and the mayor is helpless. The citizens are eager to
execute supposed witches for the crime and Hansel and Gretel arrive just in time to save a good witch from being burnt alive by the Sheriff and the people. The Mayor then takes charge and controls the crowd. He appoints Hansel and Gretel to destroy the witches, particularly Muriel (Famke Janssen) and bring back the children. The task however, is not an easy one; the witch hunters take on the help of the good witch who has just enough magic to give the heroes a fighting chance. This action-thriller has loads of blood, decapitations, stabbings, shootings with guns and arrows, explosions and magic in almost every chapter of this 80 minute spectacle and the amazing 5. 1 surround sound only adds to the fun. — Verus Ferreira

-Day is a wish-fulfilment fantasy for Indians. At many a party or coffee table discussion, the point about India not being able to send a team of covert operatives to deal with the ‘D Company’ problem comes up, particularly after the US got to the world’s most dreaded terrorist hiding out in Pakistan. While so many filmmakers are busy glorifying gangsters, Nikhil Advani’s D-Day is about a small group of dedicated RAW agents, who put their lives at stake to nab Iqbal (Rishi Kapoor), a fictional don (obviously based on a real-life criminal mastermind) orchestrated ‘unofficially’ by their Chief, Ashwini (Nasser). Hollywood does this sort of thing very well, peppering their films with great action, and unencumbered by the need for romance, music or heightened drama. The premise of D-Day is fabulous, and if Advani could trim the fat, it would have been a great entertainer. Even with its maze-like plotting and needless digressions, it is a fairly absorbing film, with a final burst of jingo-ism. Wali Khan (Irrfan) lives with his wife (Shriswara) and son in Karachi, an undercover agent for nine years, hoping for one lead that will make his existence worthwhile. When he

gets news of the wedding of Iqbal’s son at a Karachi hotel, he kicks into motion the plan to catch the don and take him to India. Joining the team are other covert operatives, Rudra (Arjun Rampal), Zoya (Huma Qureshi) and Aslam (Akash Dahiya). Their attempt fails; the Indian government professes ignorance of the plan and leaves the four to fend

for themselves. A brisk, fast-paced, no-nonsense film might have worked better, but Advani meanders off into Rudra’s passion for a prostitute (Shruti Hassan), Wali’s concern for his family and Huma’s marriage breaking down. On the plus side, the four are not robots, the emotional conflicts in their lives are part of their personal-
ities, making their thankless sacrifice even more poignant. The complicated political ramifications of the operation slow down the pace. That the RAW team actually wants to bring Iqbal to India to face trial, might seem a bit too idealistic (or faintly ridiculous), knowing our legal system, which their prey is only too familiar with and talks about with contempt. Rishi Kapoor plays the character with flamboyance, his speech peppered with Marathi, and brings such menace into his bearing, that he dwarfs everyone else in the frame. Irrfan has the tougher part,

since his Wali Khan has the most to lose, Arjun Rampal gets to play the stone-faced fauji, and Huma Qureshi the femme fatale, and they do well. The look of the film is dark and realistic, the action gritty, even if there are some curious slips like Iqbal’s nephew being allowed to attack the prostitute for sheltering Rudra, with Pakistan’s army general standing around, and an absence of any police action, or tracing of cell phones, even though a hotel is blown up and innocents killed. Still, it has enough merit to warrant a visit to the cinemas.

WHETHER DEVPT AGREEMENT NEEDS REGISTRATION BY LAW A DEVELOPMENT Agreement is essentially creating a charge and interest of the developer in the immoveable property of the owner. As per section 17(1) of the Registration Act, 1908, compulsory registration is provided of instruments/documents “which purport or operate to create, declare, assign, limit or extinguish, whether in present or in future, any rights, title or interest, whether vested or contingent, of the value of the one hundred rupees and upwards, to or in immovable property,” A development Agreement would surely be covered within the ambit and domain of this statutory provision, However, as a general practice Development Agreements are normally not registered. In these types of agreements, generally the developers tend to have an upper-hand in the whole scenario because of the fact that he feels contents and confident with the actual physical possession of the land and actual control over the building being constructed thereupon. Besides, legal and moral money remain an integral part of the whole deal. Developer is most interested in concealing the real and actual consideration of the venture and is anxious to develop the land within a short period, make a quick buck and quit from the scene, leaving the owner of the land and the purchasers of the flats to sort-out between themselves all legal disputes which might crop up in due course of time. But, such a scenario works out in favour of developer, only if the builder does not raise a dispute regarding the sharing of the built-up structure as per the Development Agreement. Serious problems can arise if an unregistered Development Agreement becomes subjectmatter of a motion in court and the court finds it difficult to even admit the agreement in evidence for want of compulsory registration. Likewise, there can arise difficulties relating to common area and amenities to be shared by the occupants of the building inter se, when they find that the core-document, they trust upon, in not admissible in evidence. For settling disputes over those issues, it may at times become essential to refer to the Development Agreement and the legal procedures many wholly prohibit the same. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the Development Agreement be duly registered for the satisfaction of all the parties concerned and in the interest of justice, reasonableness and fair-play. In M Mookerjee v. District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Consumer Forum impounded the initial agreement itself, between the promoter and the purchaser of the flat/consumer, on the ground that it was not properly stamped. The agreement was not registered tough it was compulsorily register-able under section 17 sub-section (1A) of the Registration Act. However, the Consumer Forum enforced the agreement and granted the relief sought i.e., directing the promoter to execute a conveyance of the flat, since practically for all reasonable purposes, possession of the property has already been delivered to the consumer pursuant to the impounded agreement for the sale intending to convey title to the property. I understand that one can use force to protect one’s own property. However, nowhere is it mentioned about the quantum of force that can be used to protect possession/property. Also, how does one judge the conduct of the person who used the force? — Malkan Desai By law, there is nothing fixed by statute to ascertain the quantum of force that can be used. But, as precedent bears testimony, the force could be to the extent of causing the death of the aggressor. Nevertheless, the issue of force to be used is settled by law that the force used should not be more than what “is necessary”. Also, whether the force used is in excess or not is a question of fact that will be determined by the facts and circumstances of each individual case. There cannot be a generalised solution to the issue of force. Allowances are made by law for the person’s feelings at that point of time which may be incidental to the force needed to protect the property from the aggressor. The law will take into consideration if he is faced with a real apprehension that the aggressor might cause death or grievous hurt or his property is faced with an element of danger. Such apprehensions inevitably create in his mind a sense of excitement and confusion. It is understood that at the opportune moment, the one thought that would be foremost in his mind would be to ward off the imminent danger and save himself or his property. He would be most keen on doing anything possible in exercise of his right. Therefore, while dealing with the issue of whether more force is used than was necessary or justified by the prevailing circumstances, it would be inappropriate to adopt tests of detached objectivity that’s natural in a court room. For instance, when the issue is examined long after the incident has occurred. In a few judicial decisions, it has been observed the means a threatened person adopts or the force he used “should not be weighed in golden scales”. Also, whether the force used was more than necessary would be determined on the facts and circumstances of each and every individual case.

‘Property’ as it appears in Section 405 of the Indian Penal Code cannot be confined to tangible movable property and is wide enough to include a debt. Since a ‘debt’ is included within the expression ‘property’ as occurring in Section 405 IPC, that deals with the offence of criminal breach of trust, it would be difficult to accept the contention that though this kind of property is included in Section 405, no criminal breach of trust in respect thereof could at all take place. Here and elsewhere, the word ‘property’ is used in a much wider sense than the otherwise limited ‘movable property’. There is no reason to restrict the meaning of the word property to ‘movable property’ only when it is used without any qualification in Section 405 or in other sections of the IPC. Whether the offence, defined in a particular section of the IPC, may be committed in respect of any particular kind of property will not depend on the interpretation of the word ‘property’ but on whether that particular kind of property can be subject to the acts covered by that section. A six-member delegation, led by Dhyan Chand's son Ashok Kumar, met Sports Minister Jitendra Singh on July 12. The delegations also included former India cricket captain Bishan Singh Bedi and Dhyan Chand's grandson Gaurav Singh. "Irrespective of whether the award is given or not, it is an honour for our family that his name has been recommended by the Sports Minister for Bharat Ratna," Ashok Kumar said. "The minister assured us that he would try his best to get Dhyan Chand's name considered for the honour. Since no other name has been recommended, so there is no conflict. We are hopeful he will get Bharat Ratna this year posthumously," he added.
EW DELHI: The clamour may have been for Sachin Tendulkar but the Sports Ministry has recommended hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand's name for India's highest civillian honour -the Bharat Ratna. "The letter recommending Bharat Ratna for Dhyan Chand has already been sent to the Prime Minister," Sports Secretary P K Deb said. "The Ministry has only recommended Dhyan Chand's name for the highest honour," he added. The recommendation, sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will be studied further before it goes for approval of President Pranab Mukherjee, for the hockey wizard to get the award posthumously.

The government in 2011 had ignored the plea of 82 Members of Parliament, who recommended Dhyan Chand's name for Bharat Ratna but in January 2012, the Ministry itself forwarded his name along with Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra and mountaineer Tenzing Norgay for the award. However, Tendulkar's name was not given as the BCCI had not recommended him.

BENGALURU: In a major capture, JSW Sports, on Friday, announced the signing of India team captain Sunil Chhetri to the Bengaluru-based football club that is set to be launched on Saturday. Chhetri’s signing for JSW ends weeks of speculation about the striker’s future. “I met the people at JSW a few months ago and the first thing that struck me was the passion behind all the planning. I want to play for a club that’s clear about its vision and I saw that in JSW. I know I am coming from a champion team but that works as more motivation here,” said Chhetri. Chhetri had signed for Sporting Clube de Portugal B last season before he came on loan to Churchill Brothers towards the fag end of the ILeague. NEW DELHI: Hockey India (HI) today announced the appointment of Dhananjay Mahadik as video analyst of the senior men national team. Mahadik worked as video analyst of the Delhi Waveriders in the inaugural Hockey India League
season. As a player, Mahadik played 64 international matches and represented the country in the various tournaments, including FIH Hockey World Cup in New Delhi 2010, Commonwealth Games in New Delhi 2010, Asian Games in China 2010.
Wadekar undergoes angioplasty
MUMBAI: Former India captain Ajit Wadekar underwent an angioplasty for a major blockage of artery and is recuperating at a city hospital here. "I'm speaking from the hospital now. I will be discharged tomorrow," the 72year-old ex-chief selector told PTI. "I had gone to the hospital to get stress test done and the doctors found a major blockage after angiography. I then underwent angioplasty, was kept under observation in the ICU, but I am out of it now," informed Wadekar, who led India to three successive Test series wins between 1971 and 1973 over West Indies (away) and England (back to back away and at home).

He lost consciousness and was not able to recognise people though he regained consciousness on Thursday. Baan was discharged in the afternoon and later took a flight for home in the evening. "He was admitted for loss of consciousness though he later regained it. He was not able to recognise people familiar to him. He was discharged in the afternoon and straightaway left for
