he MIDC police have busted a gang of three men who would target international passengers, usually coming in from Dubai. Having prior information passed to them from Dubai about the name of a passenger and the possible valuables in his baggage, the three accused persons in Mumbai would call out to the passenger by name. The accused would even give him information about his movement in Dubai and details about his flight. They would then tell him that they want to check his bag and ask him to accompany them to the police station, as he was smuggler. They would then take the passenger to a secluded place and rob him of his cash and valuables. It was found that the taximen from Dubai, who had ferried the victim would send his details to the gang members waiting in Mumbai. The MIDC police arrested the three accused, identified as Nasiruddin Jahiruddin Khan (32).

The Mumbai division has now recorded 11 copycats, with one being a dummy candidate who sat for another candidate by faking his identity. According to the police, the students Nadeem Shaikh (18), Muzaffar Hussain (21) and Saddam Ansari (19) paid Rs 21,000 to the accused, identified as Bashir Shaikh, for procuring hall tickets to appear for the HSC examinations this year. However, when the date of examinations neared, Bashir started giving evasive replies to the students and later started avoiding their calls.
