hile 31 students from Saket College, Kalyan have found out that they have wasted their years and fees in studying a nonpermitted course, they haven’t received any assistance the varsity.

After being bluffed by the college, students of this college stepped met the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor of MU yesterday at the Fort Campus. These students were not allowed to enter the varsity. They waited for around four hours outside the MU’s entrance gate and later went back home.

These 31 students of Bachelor of Accountancy and Finance (BAF) were not allowed by the MU to appear for their fifth semester exams earlier this month. The varsity has also informed them that their first and second year of graduation

have also been labeled as ineligible.

These students’ qualification is now considered equivalent to that of a 10+2 passed student.

A student who did not wish to be named said, “We have traveled all the way from Kalyan and can only seek a solution of this problem from the VC and PVC; but we are left without any support. The security guards did not allow us to enter the campus. If the MU’s authorities don’t address our problems, then where are we students supposed to go?”

According to the students, they had reached the Fort campus of MU at 2 pm and waited till 6 pm to meet the authorities but to no avail.

Dr. Naresh Chandra, PVC, MU said, “We met a few parents and the students’ representatives. We have told them that the MU cannot help in this issue and only the court’s decision will be the final solution”.

he two octroi officers who were accused of having a direct nexus in passing off consignments of prohibited gutkha and pan masala have been suspended by the Octroi Department.

Dayanand Bapurao Howai (48) and Pradeep Sadhu Sonawale (42) were Octroi Inspectors in the Octroi Department of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. It is alleged that the duo had released a large consignment of pan masala and gutkha without physical verification, despite the items being banned.

Both Howai and Sonawale, who were attached to Mumbai Central railway station, were absconding from duty since the Sessions Court rejected their plea for anticipatory bail on October 30 which the ADC Dayanand Bapurao Howai

had carried a story about.

According to the prosecution, the octroi officers conspired with traders and agents – who brought the prohibited goods from out of the city – by preparing railway receipts stating that the consignments contained no prohibited goods. They also showed the value of some of the goods to be less than the actual price and also did not collect the octroi charges for the same. In fact, they helped to clear the consignments with the help of the parcel department officers.

umbai BJP unit president Ashish Shelar yesterday slammed the Central Government for ignoring the plight of suburban Railway commuters. Releasing a booklet drawn from the ‘Local Hamara’ survey conducted in October here along with Gujarat Revenue minister Anandiben Mehta, Shelar stated that the BJP will continue agitating for the rights of suburban railway commuters.

The Mumbai BJP unit had carried out a survey in October and invited suggestions from suburban railway commuters at 90 suburban railway stations on both the Western and Central Railway lines. The Ashish Shelar drive had generated 61,277 letters from suburban commuters and to augment the suburban railway the findings ranged from over- infrastructure. Man spikes woman’s drink, rapes her and vanishes

n Tuesday, the Gamdevi Police registered a case of rape against an unidentified person.

The accused befriended the victim on the pretext of providing her a job as a housemaid or housekeeper.

According to the cops police, the victim alleged that on November 19, the accused called her to Mahalaxmi temple and then coaxed her to accompany him to a nearby vacant flat, spiked her drink with sedatives and then raped her. He then fled with the woman’s cash and other belongings.

The police said the victim was confused about which police station she should file a complaint and finally lodged an FIR with the Gamdevi Police on Tuesday.

According to the description given by the victim, a sketch was prepared by the police on Tuesday. The accused is a Kashmiri youth and could be working as a security guard.

Female staff at Nair Hospital demand better security

he nurses at the BMC-run Nair Hospital along with other female staff of the hospital are planning to make their demand for better security for women employees in the hospital heard, by organising a protest at the hospital on November 27.

This decision comes five days after a lady student nurse was allegedly molested by a relative of a patient in the elevator of the hospital. The accused was caught on November 25 by the hospital security and

Based on specific information, the Anti Human Trafficking Wing of the Thane (rural) police led by Assistant Police Inspector Atul Aher carried out a joint operation along with a special team from the Nalasopara police station to rescue the teenage girls (aged 16 and 17) hailing from a remote village in Jasod district of Bangladesh.

Three auto drivers held for raping minor in a tempo at a parking lot; I one absconding

n a latest incident of crime against women that took place in Borivli (West), the MHB police has arrested three auto drivers and another one is absconding for allegedly raping a 17-yearold girl.

The girl used to stay alone in Borivali in a rented apartment and the two accused were well known to her. On Monday at around 8.30 pm the girl was on her way home from Gokul Hotel (where she had gone for dinner), she was waiting for an auto opposite Tukaram Ombale park, when the prime accused Sonu Kamble (20), came in an auto, dragged her in and took her to a parking lot where a number of tempos were parked. He then raped her inside one of the temp along with his other colleagues.

The girl has been sent to Dongri Child Rehabilitation centre, since was staying alone in the city, while all the accused have been sent to police custody till December 2, Kilje informed.

After hearing the application, Judge M. S. Sharma passed the interim order to Pawar to be restrained from functioning as MCA president pending hearing of his suit, challenging the NCP supremo’s election as its chief.

According to advocate Vivekananda Gupta, “The court allowed Munde’s application seeking interim relief and restrained Pawar from functioning as MCA president. The court also directed for Munde’s suit to be heard on a day- to-day basis and to be decided within three months. utkha worth Rs. 7 lakh was seized by officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at Sector 17 in Vashi yesterday. The 22-year-old driver was arrested on the spot.

The police received a tip off about a vehicle loaded with gutkha coming to Mumbai from an unknown location.

Based on the information, a team was deployed and the vehicle was caught at around 3.30 pm.

According to the Vashi police, the vehicle had an ‘on BMC duty’ board on it. However, they are yet to find out if the vehicle was hired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or if the accused used the board to slip past the police and FDA officials.

Laxman Kale, SPI, Vashi police station said, “The driver, Shadab Shaikh, was reportedly asked to deliver the goods from Vasai to Mumbai. We are investigating the matter and trying to find the person behind this crime.”

He added, “15 bags of gutkha have been recovered which cost Rs. 7,19,100. Over the last six months, the Navi Mumbai police have seized gutkha worth over Rs. 1 crore that was being transported from neighboring states.” khushboo.panjabi@afternoondc.in

ven as the murderous attack on a woman inside an ATM kiosk in Bangalore is still fresh in the minds of the country, an attempt to rob an ATM in Virar on Monday night has exposed the chinks in the safety and security of the kiosks.

According to the police, unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to break open the ATM machine of Union Bank of India located in the Station Road area of Virar (East).

12-year-old student of an ashram school here allegedly died of jaundice, but her parents are suspecting foul play, police said yesterday. While school authorities said the Class VI had died of jaundice on Sunday, her father claimed that when he had reached hospital, he saw that her clothes were torn and suspected that she was sexually assaulted, police said, according to a PTI report.

The girl, a resident of Ghol village in Thane's Dahanu taluka, was studying in the ashram school in Dadhade village of Vikramgadh taluka of the district.

On Saturday, she had called her family and asked them for money for sweets.

However, on Sunday morning, her parents received a call from school informing them that their daughter was unwell. When her father

rushed to the government hospital at Vikramgadh, he was told that his daughter had died.

The deceased's father told reporters yesterday that he had observed a deep wound on her leg and that her clothes were also torn, leading him to suspect that she was subjected to sexual assault. A police official said as per the school superintendent, the girl had suffered from jaundice and had died while being taken to the hospital on Sunday morning.

The school authorities also said the girl had vomited on Saturday and her condition deteriorated further on Sunday morning, following which she was taken to the hospital.

The police official said based on the information provided by the school authorities, they had registered a case of accidental death on the same day and sent the body for postmortem. In the meanwhile, the government hospital said the exact cause of death could be ascertained only after receiving the postmortem report.

Aarushi murder case: Talwars deserve death!

I

T could not have been a case of honour killing. Rajesh Talwar who murdered his daughter belonged to an elitist strata of the society, where such horror does not take place. He is expected to be a liberal, liberated man. He is not like the khap criminals who punish women who ‘go morally wrong’. The khap folks’ mindset is like that.

They are convinced they are doing right thing. There are also groups in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and some of the areas across the country who kill members of their own family if their kin does anything ‘immoral’.

It is a fact what Rajesh and his wife Nupur Talwar did not experience any prick of their conscience after they murdered their 14-year-old daughter. They killed the domestic help Hemraj who was found in a compromising position with their daughter Aarushi.

Clearly it was not a premeditated crime.

That was one of the reasons that made the CBI court decide on not giving them a death sentence. The court, however, found sufficient evidence to hold them guilty. It was a 15-month trial: The investigation in the case had gone on for five and a half years.

What is quite incredible is that when the CBI began investigation on the case, it found after a short while, no evidence of guilt another part of the Talwars. It closed the case.

The same CBI took up the investigation after the surfacing of some new development in the case and found the Talwars’ involvement in the twin murder.

The CBI court, one may feel, should have awarded the death sentence. It was a brutal murder, which many feel deserve the death sentence.

The Talwars are contesting the verdict in the High Court. They are hoping that they will be found innocent. After the High Court, they will go to the Supreme Court.

Many who have been horrified by the monstrous murder of Aarushi are perhaps hoping that the higher courts will change the CBI court verdict and give the Talwars death sentence.

ONVENTIONAL political wisdom suggests that a jump in voter turnout means an impending defeat for the incumbent government. So, are the two poster boy chief ministers of the BJP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh and Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh, in trouble then? Both states recorded exceptionally high voter turnouts in the just concluded polls. In Chhattisgarh, the figure jumped by as much as 4.02 per cent from 2008 to 75.11 per cent.

Interestingly, the thickly-forested and hardto-reach Bastar region posted a higher turnout than north Chhattisgarh’s flat lands with the State Election Commission putting the figure at a whopping 75.53 per cent.

While the BJP is understandably worried about what all this means for its state governments, the irony is that the Congress is equally anxious. Put the Congress party’s worry down to the BJP’s Narendra Modi factor. Leaders of the Grand Old Party just can’t figure out whether more people showed up at polling booths this time to vote the BJP government out or to vote Modi in ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Remember, Modi has staked his political future on the results of this round of state polls. A 4-0 outcome in favour of the BJP will cement Modi’s top of the pops image and silence his critics. Anything less and the carping will grow louder.

The Election Commission maintains that the steady rise in voter turnout in every election is due to its untiring efforts to spread the message of adult franchise to all nooks and corners of the country. But political parties are completely confounded. The new, demanding voter has them foxed.

Is it a reflection of the misogynist mindset of Indian males, born and bred in a deeply patriarchal and orthodox social milieu? The fact that three cases are in the news simultaneously suggests that gender crimes are almost endemic in our country.

There is a silver lining, however. Two of the

If you only talk about the difficulty, the illness, the despair, if you don't have the time to get in touch with the positive elements within you, around you and even in the person of your patient, of your guest, that would be a pity because in a person of your guest, there's suffering, there's depression, there's a fear, but there is also the capacity of joy — of being joyful, of being compassionate.

You, the therapist, can help touch the positive seeds in him or in her and, by talking to him or to her, by inviting him or her to take a cup of tea and to touch the wonders of life, you can help him or her restore her balance so that she can go home more light, more joyful. So mindfulness is always helping, whether the object of mindfulness is positive or negative.

Anger, fear, is negative. Mindfulness holding anger and fear and giving anger and fear patience to be penetrated by the tenderness, by the attention, by the care and a chance to be

transformed. Mindfulness is the energy that brings along, that carries within itself, the energy of concentration. And wherever there is mindfulness in concentration, there is insight.

If you live your life mindfully with concentration, you live every moment of your life deeply and you begin to understand deeply what is there that happened in the present moment and that is why insight is the outcome, the flower that bloom on the ground of mindfulness and concentration and insight is what

Doing peace is not possible without being peace and being peace is your practice, recognizing the violence, the fear, the anger in you, embracing them, transforming them, getting in touch with the wonderful things, healing, nourishing around you and in you for your nourishment and for the nourishment of your community and family. That should be your daily practice.

And you can be seen as a human being capable of loving, of understanding, of protecting, and that is the image of police officer you have to create. And this very important for us because we need to see you as a human being capable of being peaceful, of being lucid, of being understanding and compassionate and we trust you. If you act only on the basis of your fear, of your anger, we will not trust you and that is why the practice of peace is very important in a community of police officers, the corrections officers and among others, psychotherapists, a doctor, a teacher, should practice the same.

Team India struggling with weak bowlers BOWLING is India’s weakest link as West Indies managed to trounce India in the 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam to level the current series and keeping the three-match series ‘alive’. While India has a strong batting lineup, perhaps the best in the world, our bowling doesn’t have much penetration. We are a poor bowling side when compared to other cricket playing nations.

Zaheer Khan now fully fit from injuries and is bowling well in domestic cricket and has been rightly reinstated to strengthen our bowling attack. He has experience and happens to be the best bowler in our country today and his inclusion in the side should improve the sagging morale of our bowlers. Also, other young talent from domestic cricket needs to be given exposure looking at the future and to build our team for the next World Cup. With many senior players retiring and some on the verge of retirement, we must look at domestic cricket which must be made more competitive to fuel our national side in the days to come.

My suggestion is that if there is no UDRS then no replays should be shown. It is unfair to the umpire. If you don’t want wrong decisions, then implement UDRS. True, even with UDRS, wrong decisions may sometimes occur, but if mistakes are made when someone has three camera views in slow motion and as much as two to three minutes to decide, then how do you expect a field umpire to be always correct when decisions are to be given in seconds after watching it in real time with no benefit of a slow motion replay?

Not in the right spirit AS per reports in the print media, ten TV channels in Pakistan have been fined more than Rs.one crore for showing Indian programmes by PEMRA (Pakistan Electric Media Regulatory Authority).

Now what we should do to the Pakistani artists who earn here in India crores of rupees and don’t pay the taxes and buy flats and properties worth crores. They take lakhs of US dollars to Pakistan and when caught our “impotent” politicians interfere and release them.

CBI probe in Aarushi murder case dicey

UNSATISFACTORY: Though the CBI court has held the Talwar couple guilty of the double murder, the way the entire probe was conducted leaves much to be desired.

THE Aarushi Talwar murder case which dragged for more than five years has now been concluded by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court holding the Talwar couple guilty of murdering their daughter and domestic help Hemraj. However, the manner in which the investigation was conducted leaves much to be desired. Right from the time the girl’s body was discovered, the police did little to preserve the crime scene. In fact, media persons were allowed to trample all over the house, possibly destroying the evidence. It was only later that the body of Hemraj was discovered on the terrace, which again seems to suggest that the police were not thorough in their probe. The police thought nothing of making ugly accusations about the dead girl and also her parents. Despite the court verdict, many ques-

tions still remain about the mobile phone of Aarushi which was later found and the CBI did not find any blood of Hemraj on Aarushi’s pillow or in the room except the liquor bottle with bloodstains from which no evidence was recovered. All this proves the lack of professionalism in the investigation by the authorities who also conducted the narco-tests on suspects and the parents which did not produce any positive result. The fact is that the police do not have any concrete evidence and the media is covering the case without any substance. The CBI should not boast about its role in this case which has come to the conclusion that the parents are guilty of the murder of their daughter and domestic help, though the Talwars are going to appeal in the high court.

Introduction Russian Revolution is a turning point of history of the world. In 19th century political, social and economic conditions declined in Russia; during the period of Tsar of Romanov Dynasty.

In the beginning of the 20th century, Tsar’s empire spread in a large area. Social conditions in his period were extremely unequal. Due to feudalism and serfdom, common people were living in a miserable condition. While comparing the other European Nations, the Industrial development of Russia was not so good. Industries in Russia were in the hands of the capitalists and they were exploiting the workers. They were not given advanced technology. So it was difficult to give quality production. As a result, the economic conditions of Russia started to decline.

Russia at the threshold of the Revolution The revolutionaries’ ideas reached Russia in the middle of the 19th century. The educated class became aware of exploitation and the need to oppose it. The Nihilist advocated absolutely freedom. The idea of Karl Marx had reached Russia and influenced the views of the Russian intellectuals.

Karl Marx (1818-1883) Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote ‘Das Capital’. In association with Fredrick Engles he wrote ‘Communis Manisfesto’ (1848). He made a scientific study of social development and pointed out the need for an exploitationfree society. He believed that changes in economic system will change social customs and values. He pointed out that those who own the means of production (the haves) exploit the poor (the have nots). He appealed to the workers of the world to unite for fundamental social change. The Russian revolution saw a conflict between the Tsar and his rich supporters on the one hand and the workers and farmers on the other.

Despotic Rule in Russia Before the revolution took place Russia had been under the reign of the Romanov dynasty for three centuries. The Tsars were opposed to the liberal ideas, denied rights and freedom to the people. Agriculture was the backbone of the Russian economy. However, the feudalism resulted in misery for the farmers.

Bloody Sunday (23-1-1905) The defeat of Russia in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05) intensified resentment. Father Gapon led a silent protest march in St Petersburg to submit a memorandum to the Tsar. The soldiers attacked the protestors and many succumbed to death. This ghastly incident on 23 January 1905 is known as ‘Bloody Sunday’.

The confrontation between the Duma and the Tsar led to the dissolution of the First Duma and subsequently the Second Duma was dissolved on the grounds of differences with the members. But, the third Duma became a puppet in the hands of the Tsar. Duma couldn’t do any noteworthy work.

Thus, the democratic experiment failed in Russia.

Q2 Write about Lenin’s New Economic Policy. (30 to 40 words) Ans. Lenin announced a New Economic Policy, which consisted of both privatisation and nationalisation to some extent. This policy of Lenin was opposed by the extremist Communist leaders. Lenin defended his decision by saying that ‘it was sensible to go couple of steps back, after having gone three steps ahead.’

Q3. Write the significance of Russian Revolution (60 to 80 words) Ans. 1) The Russian Revolution has a significant place in the history of modern world. This was the first revolution inspired by the philosophy of Karl Marx.

The working class acquired great importance due to this revolution and gave the world a direction to bring about social development through economic planning.

It was an attempt to create a social order without religion, class and exploitation. The concept of ‘welfare state’ was accepted and the message of total freedom from all sorts of restrictions was given.

The event ushered in a new era and brought about fundamental changes in the political, social, economic, cultural and scientific fields of Russia.

There rose a new form of governance and communism gave birth to new values.

The revolution set up the principle of equality co-operation and global fraternity.

Q4. Give reasons (20 to 30 words) a) The condition of the common people and workers in Russia was miserable.

Ans. 1) The industrial development in Russia was inadequate and as a result, there were very few jobs.

2) The workers were paid low wages and forced to work for long hours.

2) The Committee: a) The Committee means executive body of the League of Nations. The Assembly was sending its recommendations to the Committee. It included five permanent and four non-permanent members.

Functions: 1) To implement the decisions of the League of Nations, to solve the crisis among the nations, control of the Secretarial office.

2) The Committee could handle any issue related to world peace.

3) Secretariat: The Secretariat was the office of the League of Nations. The chief of this office was known as the Secretary General or the Secretary.

Functions: 1) To register the complaints coming to the League, to collect information about the grievances, to keep the documents of the administrative work, to pass the information of the decisions of the League of Nations to all the nations.

2) To execute the decisions of the Committee and to look after the regular administration of the League of Nations.

Ans.: 1) There was lack of coordination between the principal nations like France and England.

NATIONAL SCHOOL ESSAY COMPETITION

The Tata group has announced the launch of the eighth edition of Tata Building India School Essay Competition.

A national-level contest, Tata Building India will be held in different languages across the cities of India. This year, the competition is to be held in 12 languages and will reach out to nearly 3.5 million students, from 7000 schools spread across nearly 185 cities. Two new languages – Punjabi and Assamese – are proposed for the first time this year, adding to the already existing English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya, Telugu and Malayalam editions. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Happy and Prosperous Nation’ and young minds will be encouraged to express their thoughts on a topic based on this subject.

To ensure a level playing field for students, the competition is conducted across two categories - junior level for Classes VI – VIII and Senior level for Classes IX to XII. What exactly is training all about?

Training is all about sharing knowledge and experiences. If you have a zest for sharing knowledge and enlightening people gives you satisfaction, then training is the field for you.

The culture of formal training started in the west when organisations realised the importance of making team members grow internally. With experience that came from working on the shop floor, internal growth also meant gearing up team members with adequate skills and knowledge to deal with challenges of a higher role. Adults learn through experiential learning. Training includes learning through examples and real life experiences which helps to connect between the trainer and trainee.

What kind of person would make the perfect trainer?

The right person to become a trainer is someone who is able to connect with people, a person who is an extrovert and who has great convincing skills. Having good communication skills is also important and helpful. If you are good at convincing people, you’re in the right field. You may not have all the answers to the questions asked to you; however it is critical that a trainer deals with the questions with confidence and reassures the trainee that the right answer will be given to him/her at a defined time. Before training anyone, you, as a trainer, must be convinced about your subject.

The job profile includes designing a training calendar, auditing training, analysis and understanding the training needs of an organization, skill development and team building. he youth of Mumbai vowed to spread peace and forgiveness by taking the ‘Pledge of Peace’ on November 22 along with survivors of one of the most tragic incidents witnessed by Mumbai and the nation. The oath was administered at Welingkar Institute by Kia Scherr, founder, One Life Alliance and Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool, along with students from various city colleges and children from St. Mary’s Shelter Home.

Students from International Universities attending exchange programmes at WeSchool had also joined the ceremony, adding a global touch to the event.

The ‘Pledge of Peace’ ceremony was part of the CSR initiative initiated by WeSchool students titled, ‘We Wish You Peace’ to celebrate the resilient spirit of Mumbai at the outset of the fifth anniversary of the 26/11 terrorist attack.

The evening culminated into a star studded fashion show where prominent celebrities did a peace walk to celebrate the relentless spirit of Mumbai and spread the message of peace along with the children from the St. Mary’s Shelter Home, whose education for a year will be sponsored by WeSchool.

Talking on the occasion Kia Scherr, Founder, One Life Alliance said, “After my husband and daughter were killed in 26/11 attacks, I am determined to create the opposite of terrorism – to love like an extremist so that we can increase the power of peace in as many ways as possible. The time has come to join together as one. Together we can make a difference.

“This is a mutual choice – I chose Welingkar and Welingkar chose me after I spoke to 200 students last year about my response to 26/11.

The students came forward with so many creative ideas to increase peace around the city. I

knew this would be an ongoing collaboration.

This is just the beginning.”

‘My title changes with my role’ Says Chaitally Parmar, Creative Supervisor at Phantom Films, as she talks about her training in every aspect of film making.

am a part of every film that is produced within the company and my title changes depending on what roles I have played on a film. I have co-written ‘Queen’ on which I am also an associate director. I have played the role of an associate producer for ‘Lootera’ I did a Diploma in Business of Films and Television from Whistling Woods International (WWI) and was a part of the pilot batch, i.e.

2006-08.

The new faces extended such a warm welcome as if we were entering a new family (also we were the first batch). We were introduced to all faculties and our Chairman and Founder – Subhash Ghai – personally came to our classes to brief us about the world of cinema and the life that lay ahead. Our faculties and student bodies shared a great chemistry. College was an extended family for us. All our professors were true torch bearers of the society. Their wide experience, innovative and upgraded teaching methodology, helped us understand our subjects really well. Our biggest strengths were our Chairman and Founder, while the President and Executive Director were also always there for us.

The state of the art technology in the campus helped us immensely. The classes were highly interactive and all our suggestions were taken seriously. Also, as a part of curriculum we were exposed to various NGOs which helped us become more responsible to the society.

We were allocated separate condominiums and we had a bus that would pick us up from the hostel. At times we walked to the campus.

College life was great. Learning was never burdensome. We always enjoyed the process, from classes to making films on campus and off campus, doing everything that happened in the ‘real world’ including fighting with the ‘crew’ who also happened to be our friends and batch mates to going back to the hostel and hanging out in the common area talking about the ‘industry’.

The institute is located at Filmcity in Goregaon. We used to hang out in the campus itself. Our cafeteria was a big hit when it came to socialising. I had a diverse friend circle. Thanks to the institute, we had the opportunity to meet people from all parts of the country and abroad.

The campus was always buzzing with innovative thoughts and stimulating conversations.

We used to get caught for not wearing the col-

lege T-shirt. Therefore we used to hide under tables, run away from the canteen and hide behind trees just to escape getting caught.

My education has helped me in more ways than one. It gave me a certain direction, a job to start with and there on the freedom to figure out what I want to do since I was trained in almost every aspect of film making. If I had not gone to a film school and just trained practically I would not have had the choice to pick what I want to do in various areas of film making.

The WWI Campus is set in the midst of the city’s green patch, with acres to explore and learn. The beauty around is very inspiring. WWI believes that each aspiring student, faculty member etc. should be able to absorb this environment first hand, before deciding whether to be a part of it. Therefore they extend the option of booking a campus tour with them. This is a very unique idea indeed. Students and parents can both take this tour to explore what life at WWI is like, with its wonderful combination of classroom and real world teachings.

I have personally never taken it. During exam time, you are not supposed to face so much stress and be afraid of forgetting your lessons. Taking exams is not hard work as long as you make a time table and learn step by step, seriously. If you do that, you won’t face much stress and won’t be swamped with work.

haziabad: Dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were today sentenced to life term by a CBI court after they were convicted of killing their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj five-and-a-half years ago.

by Additional Session Judge Shyam Lal who rejected the CBI plea for maximum punishment after the premier probe agency submitted that the case fell in the “rarest of rare” category.

Arguing before the court on quantum of punishment in the sensational double murder that had gripped the nation as one of the most puzzling crimes ever, CBI counsel R.K. Saini argued that the killing was a cold-blooded murder and fell in the “rarest of rare” category. Defence counsel Tanvir Mir countered CBI’s argument and said the evidence against his clients were weak and sought leniency for Talwars. The arguments lasted just five minutes before the judge adjourned proceedings and pronounced the quantum of sentence at 4.30 PM. The Talwar couple remained composed.

The Talwar couple were also sentenced for five years for destruction of evidence and Rajesh for another one year for filing wrong FIR with police. All the sentences pronounced by the judge, who relied heavily on the circumstantial evidence provided by the CBI, will run concurrently.

The couple was convicted under IPC sections 302(murder), 201(destruction of evidence) and 34(common intention to commit the crime). Rajesh was also convicted separately for furnishing false information to the police regarding the murder of his daughter by Hemraj (Section 203).

According to the CBI, the dentist killed Aarushi and Hemraj at their Noida home on May 15-16 night, 2008, in a fit of rage after finding them in an objectionable position.

“Besides, the district collectors have also been asked to take steps to protect the standing crop in the field as they may be affected due to heavy rainfall,” the Development Commissioner said, adding that the state government was fully prepared to face the situation.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: The Nifty fell moderately on Tuesday (November 26, 2013) a net 56.25 points (0.92%) and closed at the 6059 point level. The market opened down with a gap at the 6099 points level. It then rose and registered the day’s high at the 6112 points level at 10.13 a.m. The index then declined sharply and turned into a range bound movement until 3.00 p.m. It then declined further and registered the day’s low at the 6047 points level at 3.24 p.m. and then turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty remained below its previous close throughout the session, moved in a range of 65 points and closed below the psychologically important 6100 points level. Sentiment was bearish and amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 37 were losers, while 13 stocks closed in the green. Some buying was seen in auto, power and capital goods stocks, while substantial selling was seen in banking, PSU, oil & gas and FMCG stocks.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) increased 53.74%. This change is substantial and indicates a wide participation by investors.

SRL spent Rs 890mn towards construction and Rs 450mn towards advance taxes in H1FY14. Considering revenue booking of Signature Island in Q4FY14, the tax outflow would be higher in FY14. In H2FY14, construction cost outflow should be ~Rs 1.1bn with another Rs 1.30bn towards taxes and Rs 0.47bn towards payments of premium for land FSI to MMRDA. On our conservative expectations of Rs 3.4bn of collections, the total outflows of Rs 2.9bn would be more than met.

SRL has pre-launched phase 2 of its Sunteck City at Goregaon West, Mumbai. The strategy to launch the phase 1, despite of 66 percent unsold inventory in phase 1, is to launch sub-Rs 10mn product of 1 ½ BHK. The company believes that due to lower affordability quotient in Mumbai housing market, the requirement of sub-Rs 10mn product is high. In a week’s time of its launch the project sells 0.03msf, 4 percent of its total SBA of 0.8msf for an average realisation of Rs 12900 / sf.

SRL’s valuations remain attractive on the back of huge value of unsold inventory from the ongoing projects. Company’s key project, Signature Island, is expected completion in Q4FY14 which has unsold inventory of atleast Rs 15bn (59 percent of SBA).

Sales run-rate of Signature Island is expected to pick up post completion considering it being the only super luxury ready-to-move-in product in Mumbai. As on Q2FY14, the o/s collections from sold area of the ongoing projects are equal to the o/s payments to complete the projects.

It is still exposed to a weaker economy, but multiples factor in a fair degree of weakness. Upgrade to OW. Balance sheet at Axis is stronger now: The capital raising in 2013 lifted Tier 1 capital above 12%. A large part of the system (SOE banks) is weakly capitalized, so Axis can cherry-pick assets. Plus, it will be saved from raising equity if NPLs spike. The deposit base has continued to hold up well and PPoP margins have improved despite a move away from corporate loans.

Exposure to stressed areas has decreased: In the past, Axis was viewed as a bank with primary focus on infrastructure, which will likely remain an area of stress for the system, in our view. However, over the last 18 months, it has reduced exposure to this area (in both absolute terms and relative to the total balance sheet). Coupled with a better balance sheet, this implies that the ability to withstand stress is very high.

Sahara To Give Fresh Title Deeds For Assets Worth Rs 20,000 Cr

F

ighting a long-running battle with Sebi, the Sahara Group yesterday said it will submit new title deeds for properties worth Rs 20,000 crore to the market regulator, which had termed assets offered earlier as highly over-valued. The fresh proposal follows after the Supreme Court last week restrained Sahara group from selling any properties and restrained Subrata Roy and three other top executives from leaving the country without the courtâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s permission. The court will hear the matter next on December 11.

While disagreeing with Sebiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s view that the properties offered earlier as security for Rs 20,000 crore were overvalued, the group said in a public notice published in various

newspapers today that it would â&#x20AC;&#x153;submit title deeds relating to other properties of Sahara aggregating Rs 20,000 crore, instead of debating any further on the issue raised.â&#x20AC;?

The group said it â&#x20AC;&#x153;has been making sincere efforts over the last few months to comply with the order of Supreme Court pertaining to the ongoing litigation with the Sebiâ&#x20AC;? and assured its depositors, customers and business associates that it will successfully â&#x20AC;&#x153;overcome these challengesâ&#x20AC;?.

The Supreme Court has asked the group to hand over title deeds of unencumbered properties worth Rs 20,000 crore to Sebi, which was last year tasked with the job of refunding over Rs 24,000 crore to investors from whom two Sahara firms had raised money through issue of certain debentures.

Maisha appears to be two year old with class – perhaps getting set for a win in the Poonawalla Multi-Million. Quickfire was the hot favourite in the Div I of the Willow Herb Plate. Zerwan rode a confident race on Trisara and beat it.

YDNEY: Spin great Shane Warne says a threat by Jimmy Anderson to punch debutant George Bailey sparked the furious reaction by Australian skipper Michael Clarke in the first Test against England.

Clarke was fined 20 percent of his match fee on Monday after being caught by a stump microphone telling the fast bowler to expect a broken arm in the final stages of Australia's 381-run victory in Brisbane Sunday.

The usually mild-mannered Clarke also wagged his finger in a close-up confrontation with the England quick, a renowned sledger, with the umpires needing to step in to cool tempers. As a member of the Nine Network's commentary team, Warne had access to all the stump microphone recordings and tweeted that Anderson had threatened Bailey, who was fielding in close, with a punch to the face.

"I think it's a disgrace that @MClarke23 has been fined.

agreement between Cricket Australia and the television network, the stump mike is not supposed to be on between balls so his threat should not have been recorded.

"He is an outstanding Australian cricket captain who's just led his team to a marvellous and historic win," Nine's Head of Sport Steve Crawley told reporters. "He doesn't need or deserve that to be tarnished by our error and we of course apologise."

The explosive incident capped a torrid first Ashes Test with England skipper Alastair Cook also fuming at David Warner calling his team frightened, while singling out batsman Jonathan Trott as "weak". Matters took a dramatic turn late Monday when Trott, a stalwart of the team, pulled out of the Ashes series and returned to England due to a "stress-related illness", widely reported to be depression. Prior to the news of Trott's departure, Warner admitted that he "probably went a little bit too far", although England coach Andy Flower said the batsman's departure was not directly related to the comments.

‘Pressure on Zaheer gearing up for South Africa tour me as I am M defending my title’

MUMBAI: Defending champion Harendra Gupta said that there will be enough pressure on him as he battles to hold his guard at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in the Rs 1 crore prize money CG Open 2013 which will tee off today.

Gupta and Rashid Khan will renew their rivalry after they were engaged in a playoff in which Gupta won the title last year.

However, this season Khan seems to be on a roll as he leads the charts for the Order of Merit in the PGTI rankings. Speaking on the eve of the event, Harendra said, “There will be pressure on me as I am defending the title. All the golfers are in good form and I am just looking to give in my best,” said Harendra Gupta.

Khan on the other hand said that he doesn’t want this tournament to end with him competing for the title through play offs. “I am not competing with anyone in this tournament. I have lost previous two tournaments in the playoffs. I want to win this tournament.” On being the leader in the PGTI Order of Merit he said that he was pleased with his performance this season as last he held this position only for week.

“Last year, I held the Order of Merit for a week, so its good to see me hold it for longer this season,” said Khan.

Also seen in action will be some of the PGTI’s seasoned pros like Ashok Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Digvijay Singh, Amandeep Johl, POm Prakash Chouhan and Manav Jaini during the CG Open.

UMBAI: Veteran India pacer Zaheer Khan, who has made a comeback to the Test side after nearly a year, today said he was gearing up for the challenge against South Africa next month.

"I have ironed out things I felt were pulling me back. I am ready to take on the challenge. It is great to accept challenge and to live up to it," Zaheer told reporters here. The 35-year-old has been selected in the 17-member Test squad after taking 13 wickets in three Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 19.84 this season.

His last Test was against England in Kolkata in December 2012.

When the answer was yes, I then chalked out a strategy. What exactly was needed and I did everything possible to make sure that I am there. Obviously, physical aspect was a big thing and I had to tackle that. "In consultation with lot of trainers and physios I chalked out a plan and so far it worked," he said.

UMBAI: G.B. Police started their campaign on a winning note but lost in the second round of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 34th Victor D’Mello Annual Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament. In the first round they defeated Wenden Caterers 54 in a closely fought match that enthralled the spectators. At half time G.B. Police were leading 3-1 and they gradually increased their lead in the second half to win the match.

Pune FC to play in Asian Champions League play-off

NEW DELHI: India has been awarded a play-off slot for next year's Asian Champions League, the continent's top-tier club competition in football. All India Football Federation said that last season I-League runners-up Pune FC will feature in the play-off. Churchill Brothers were the winners of the last I-League season (201213) but they have not fulfilled the AFC Club Licensing criteria required to take part in Asian Champions League.
