ired with having to constantly complain about issues and problems of their suspended principal to the Mumbai University (MU) and the government, the students of Siddharth College of Commerce and Economics yesterday conducted a press conference against the government, the varsity and their suspended principal, claiming that their complaints have been completely ignored. Though the students had approached the varsity several times and have even filed cases against their suspended principal, no final decision has been arrived at for several months. It may be recalled that Dr. Krishna Patil, former principal of Siddharth College, who was suspended by the State Education Department of Maharashtra on June 24 this year for charging extra fees to students, continued to withdraw college money for his personal purposes. Patil has also allegedly taken the teachers’ muster into his custody. Even though the college, under sec-

Despite tight police security, students and teachers of the college claim that no support has been provided by the police force to enable the management to
take action against the principal. The People Education Society, which runs the Siddharth College of Commerce, suspended principal Patil after Vitthal Basu Chavan, an SY BCom student of the college, registered a case against him for charging additional fees. Chavan had registered a case in the High Court
as well as with the Students’ Grievance Committee of the Mumbai University. Even after the academic year reaching almost mid-way, students claim they have not been issued their identity cards, and are confused about whom to think of as their principal, because the suspended principal comes to the college and sits in the principal’s cabin, while the current principal comes and occupies another cabin. The extra fee money which Patil had charged has not been refunded as yet. The ADC spoke to Vitthal Chavan, who is students’ representative, Siddharth College of Commerce and Economics, who said, “More than seven months have passed but our issues have been sidetracked by the MU and the government. Where are we students supposed to go and complain? Here the suspended principal enters the college and captures the principal’s cabin, and on the other hand we are still waiting for return of the money which

wo out of four men, who allegedly kidnapped a bargirl over a failed relationship with one of them, were held by Mumbra cops after they foolishly approached the police to file a stolen vehicle complaint. As the quartet pushed the victim into their Maruti Swift and drove off, they were blocked by two bikers who chased the vehicle after hearing the girl screaming for help. The accused got out of the car and fled away in the ensuing commotion. Interestingly, the decision of two of the accused to lodge a stolen vehicle complaint so as not to arouse
suspicion gave their game away, as the cops already knew about the car due to a wireless alert sent to all police stations. Around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, Sonia Ghazi (26), was allegedly forced into a car with four male occupants, which then headed towards the highway. Near Mumbra railway station, Sonia’s screams for help were heard by Zulfikar Khan (60) and Asad Sheikh (24), who chased the car and intercepted it. Pintu Jaiswal (24) and Fateh Sheikh (42), along with two others took advantage of the commotion and ran away from the spot. Pintu and Fateh then went across to the Vartak Nagar
police station and lodged a car theft complaint there. Officers however became suspicious as the car’s description given by them was very similar to the one announced in the wireless alert circulated amongst all police stations after the two bikers had stopped it. The Vartak Nagar cops then informed their Mumbra counterparts and Jaiswal and Sheikh were arrested. The kidnapping however was not premeditated and was a spur-of-the-moment reaction by Jaiswal during an argument with Sonia, who is a bargirl. “The two had begun a relationship and Jaiswal Continued on pg 8 «
