LIMITED CHOICE OF JUNIOR COLLEGES ATTACHED TO SCHOOLS IN THE ARTS STREAM POSES A HEADACHE FOR STUDENTS TRYING TO FULFIL ABSURD BOARD NORMS FOR ONLINE ADMISSION PROCESS

By Yatin Ingle

W

ith the state SSC results being declared today, parents and students who have been studying the online admission form for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) in the Arts stream already realise they are in for a hard time. The online admission process has been complicated enough by making it compulsory to pick no less than 35 preferred colleges for admission! This has led to another problem. In many wards there are very few junior colleges attached to schools. And there lies the rub. The 35 preferences must include 15 from wards in one’s own zone (north, south, east and west), another 15 colleges from anywhere in

the city and suburbs, and five junior colleges attached to schools in one’s own ‘ward’ and the adjacent one, the area of which is itself decided by the Board. Most wards do not have adequate number of junior colleges attached to schools in the Arts stream. Yet, if you do not fill in the required number, your application is automatically not accepted, making it impossible to complete the admission filing process. For example, the West zone, comprising Bandra to Dahisar, has seven junior colleges attached to schools offering the Arts stream. Among the seven, only the Malad ward has two such colleges. The rest of the wards have only one each. Students would like to know how they can list five colleges when

they are further restricted by the “only two wards” rule. According to the rules of the FYJC online form filling process, a list of around 300 colleges has been given by the state Board to the applicants for Arts, Commerce and Science. For Commerce and Science, there seems to be no problem. Speaking to the ADC, Subhash Gadhari, SSC board officer, Zone-3, said “As the Arts stream has less junior colleges attached to schools in certain wards, the students can list five colleges around their locality. They should not panic and their forms will not be disqualified”. Check SSC results at 1 pm on http://mahresult.nic.in www.msbshse.ac.in www.sscresult.mkcl.org

MINISTERS DIVERTED DROUGHT FUNDS TO OWN

CONSTITUENCIES? L

By Prashant Hamine

eader of opposition in legislative council, Vinod Tawde, yesterday alleged that the Congress-NCP ministers from western Maharashtra diverted funds meant for drought relief to their own constituencies. Speaking to newspersons here, he disclosed that while Rs.381 crores were allocated to western Maharashtra districts like Pune, Sangli and Satara, there were hardly any funds allocated to the worst drought-affected districts of Aurangabad and Jalna in Marathwada region. Giving details, he said that the state government spent the funds allocated by the centre only on cattle camps and water tankers. Continued on pg 6 «
