THANK YOU FOR LAUNCHING KIRKLAND ARTS CENTER INTO THE FUTURE!
LETTER FROM MISSION CONTROL Thank you for being here tonight. One of our ceramics students perfectly describes the way so many of us feel: “Art is the foundation of life; it supports everything else I do. This local place to connect and create empowers me. No matter what I give in my job as a nurse or elsewhere in life, I have this nurturing community of growth and exploration to support me when I need it. Living without access to art would be like trying to run marathons on a diet of donuts.” - Barbara MacDonald, KAC Ceramics Student and Registered Nurse Tonight is about investment in a future of more connection, support, empowerment, and growth. It’s about highlighting the importance of access to art experiences, supporting talented artists in our community, and envisioning a future with vibrant historic and cultural spaces on the Eastside. The only way KAC continues to thrive is with your support. We want to thank each of you, the KAC Board, the Gala Committee, Kirkland and Eastside arts and civic leaders, our loyal supporters, incredible teachers and students, and KAC’s staff for believing wholeheartedly in KAC’s mission: Unleash the power of art to ignite individual growth and self-expression, build community spirit, and cultivate cultural vibrancy. Here’s to an evening of community, generosity, and gratitude, and here’s to the future! With gratitude,
Kelly Dylla, Executive Director
John Adams, Board President

LIVE AUCTION
STEVE JENSEN #1 BLUE BOAT | $1500 OIL ON WOOD | 20.5 X 24.5”
LIVE
Steve Jensen began the Voyager series to help him heal; to deal with his own personal grief and loss and with the hope of providing relief for others dealing with their own sorrow. The universal image of the boat in many cultures and civilizations symbolizes a voyage or journey, perhaps the voyage to the “other side” or the journey to the “unknown.”
STEPHANIE HARGRAVE #2A & 2B DOTT 1 & DOTT 2 | $1200 | $1200 ACRYLIC | 36 X 36” EACH
Hargrave has been painting and working in clay since college where she studied color theory, ceramics, sculpture, drawing and painting, as well as creative writing. This pair of paintings began as a challenge after Stephanie had focused on encaustic work for ten years. She hoped to see if she could still express herself without the use of wax. We think she was quite successful! These sister paintings hang beautifully as individuals, and even more strikingly as a pair.
7
PRIVATE CHEF DINNER & CUSTOM CERAMICS #3 | $1290
PAMELA K BEER #4 SHE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A COLORFUL GIRL | $2000 ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANEL | 36 X 36 X 2”
This uplifting, empowering, complex, and layered piece is as intriguing as it is joyful. The artist explains “The women I’ve painted have power and are each lovely in their own right. The entire series has said... that we are all beautiful even with our imperfections. They have stories to tell, just like you and I have stories to tell.”

Your evening is made complete with the one-of-a-kind, specially crafted ceramic tumblers and serving bowl that you and your guests enjoy, then you take home; a luxurious evening of community, conversation, and memories.

TERRY LENESS #7 SHUTTERED | $3400 OIL ON CANVAS | 18 X 24”
KAREN KLEE-ATLIN #8 GRANITE SPIT - YELLOW GREEN | $2700 LINOCUT MONOPRINT | 53 X 41 X 2”
Karen Klee-Atlin’s new series of reductive linocuts, Granite Spit, focuses on a ridge of weathered granite in a Northern Ontario lake. The stone, smoothed and exposed by glaciers and encrusted with lichen and scrub, provides a subject well suited to the slow work of carving and the accretion of inky layers. This piece is one of twelve prints; each uses disparate color palettes for every pass through the press. The result is a series of unique prints, each one drawing attention to different features of the rocky landscape.
LIVE
Shuttered depicts a simple mid-century bungalow in Eureka, California. The window blinds are closed against the heat, the house shimmers in a blueshadowed haze, and the meticulously groomed yard glows in its array of greens and yellows. Terry is known for focusing in on the details some may abandon; the ordinary becomes extraordinary through brilliant light, deep shadows, strong color, patterns, and forms.
LIVE AUCTION 9-COURSE CHEF’S DINNER & CUSTOM CERAMICS
LIVE
#9 THE LAKEHOUSE & VICKIE SANDERS | $3500
You and nine lucky friends will experience a night to remember featuring a 9-course chef’s tasting menu from James Beard Award-winning Chef Jason Wilson in a private dining space at the Lakehouse. Dinner will be served on handmade ceramic vessels

SOO HONG
#10 GLOWING & GROWING HOME $1800 ACRYLIC, CHARCOAL, AND OIL STICK ON LINEN | 31.5 X 23.6 X 1.5”
This raindrop tells a story of belonging. Soo explains, “As a recent immigrant, I am finding ways to feel that I belong here. As a means of comfort, newcomers decorate their houses’ interiors with the items symbolizing their home country or culture. For an outsider, accepting new place requires a ritual to make feel as their home. The Raindrops series started as a ritual act to emotionally accept Seattle as my new home. The water drop shape is a metaphor symbolizing rainy weather and each drop represents the individuals within the area.” 11

DONNA LINDEMAN PORTER #11 HAPPY | $550
CERAMIC | 12.5 X 10 X 10”
LIVE
Donna Lindeman Porter’s work is a complex mixture of pathos and humor, capturing narrative with explosive color and rich texture. Porter’s work serves as a kind of journal, honoring people, places, and events that have left their imprint on her. She marries these memories with a bit of humor, most often because that’s the only way she believes one can really face life. Porter’s work has been exhibited extensively, including at Henry Art Gallery and the Nordic Museum.
TROY GUA
#12 BOWIE | $375 RESIN-COATED METALLIC C-PRINT ON PANEL | 12 X 12 X 2”
Troy artfully represents David Bowie in four stages of his life, layered atop one another as part of his Pop Hybrids series. Gua is represented by SAM Gallery at the Seattle Art Museum. His work investigates identity, celebrity, and pop culture; he explains, “I imagine a future where the world is out of room. It’s a world where, in order to save space, even our thoughts, our memories, our nostalgia becomes distilled, consolidated, hybridized, and layered on top of itself. ‘Pop Hybrids’ are the reduction of personality into logo, the reduction of individuality into the collective, the reduction of photography into design. 14
