WORDS: Staff PIC: KR As if organising the No Way In Hell extreme enduro is not a big enough undertaking enduro main man and regular KR contributor Sean Clarke has put together an all-new event in the Oparau area for the Easter weekend. The event is the Oparau 3-Day Adventure Trail Ride and will be totally off-road. That’s right, three full days of Adventurestyle Trail Riding, all off road. The ride will be led by Sean with the help of local legends Mathew and Nigel Scott (the brothers who have helped lay out the No Way In Hell extreme enduro). THREE FULL DAYS Starting on Easter Friday (April 22) at Oparau the ride will head north over the Moerangi Range and down the Whanga Coast to the base of Mt Kariori and the overnight stop at Te Mata. Day 2 starts with a run down the (in) famous Moka Moka track before heading south for lunch at Kawhia then on to John and Fiona Scott’s property for the second overnight stop.

Day 3 the route takes riders close to Waitomo before returning to Oparau. THE SMALL PRINT Sean says that riders of well-maintained Enduro and/or MX bikes with a minimum fuel range of 60km and new tyres are welcome with road registration not required because there will be no road riding. Each day riders will cover up to 150kms so a reasonable level of fitness and skill is required. Cost is $1,250 per rider if you take the motel option or $1,050 if you bring a sleeping bag and stay in a woolshed each night. Nitro Circus star Travis Pastrana spent a day on Waiheke Island (a short ferry ride from Auckland) for a bit of rest and relaxation … and a 15-metre double front flip off a cliff into the blowhole jump near Newton Road at Little Oneroa. Fresh from a sellout show at North Shore Stadium, Travis and his 40-person crew were shown around the island by Bodhi Vette and Dan Nicholson from the Beachbum Bus Company while being filmed for the new MTV series out later this year.

He says the crew were sworn to secrecy by Nitro Circus and Global Action Sports Australia, the company filming the series. “I don’t think New Zealand has ever seen anything like this before. PRIVATEER REED WINS US SX ROUND With Chad Reed unable to come to terms with the factories for an SX deal for 2011 the Aussie took one of the biggest risks of his career and set up his own privateer team running Hondas. That risk has already paid off, however, the former champ beating the factories and their own mega-buck riders at the San Diego round of this US-based World Championship series last month. In only the seventh round of the debut season for Reed’s TwoTwo Motorsport team, the Australian rider led 17 of the 20 laps to take victory nearly six seconds ahead of defending champion Ryan Dungey. The win was Reed’s 39th at this level and his sixth in San Diego meaning he also surpassed Jeremy McGrath’s record of five. Not a bad night’s work with Reed now third in the championship standings. Recent NZ visitor Eli Tomac also gave Honda a victory in the Western Regional Supercross Lites class main event at San Diego.

NITRO CIRCUS GOES WORLDWIDE We’ve just seen him here, now Travis Pastrana and the Nitro Circus Live tour is about to go global with a world tour due to start in North America later this year currently in development. The World Tour will respond to international audience demand and follows the highly-successful Australasian tour, the first ever live tour which smashed box office records for previous action sports events. Headlined by the irrepressible Pastrana, each show combines the biggest and best freestyle motocross stunts with all sorts of other action on BMXs and skateboards as well as the Nitro Circus crew performing outrageous stunts off the 20 metre high Nitro Gigant-A-Ramp. The global tour will coincide with the first 3D Nitro Circus feature film, which starts production in April and is due for release in early 2012. The movie, which will contain ground breaking stunts in 3D, is set to follow in the footsteps of the
