"The sea is calm tonight.
 HIGH The tideMARINA is full, the moon lies fair
 Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
 Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
 Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. ... Ah, love, let us be true
 To one another! for the world, which seems
 To lie before us like a land of dreams,
 So various, so beautiful, so new,
 Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
 Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;

MAY SHOE APPEARANCES

Every month more and more shoes come out. Whether it be from Adidas, Nike, or Yeezy there are always new shoes. This month Jordan has come out with the perfect shoe for graduation and and the perfect breed of the Jordan 4. Get ready for graduation because Jordan is already ready for it. Their new adaptation of the Jordan 13 is called ¨cap and gown¨ and it’s ready to graduate. An all black 13 with glossy detailing is the best way to make an impression walking up those steps to get your diploma. It is coming out April 27 and will cost 200 dollars, which is the average price of a 13. The Jordan 4 did not come to play with its new colorway. ¨Bred¨ the new colorway for the shoe is nothing less than what they have come out with since the release in 1989. With red and gray detailing on top of black this shoe is sure to be a show stopper. Coming out on May 4 and pricing at 200 dollars sneaker, they will sell out quickly. Adidas new line with Donald Glover is a sure head turner, but not because it’s bold, but because of how it is as simple as can be. Donald Glover created his own version of Continental 80, Lacombe, and Nizza but they all look similar. All have a muslin type color along them with white detailing. Continental 80 with cost 100 dollars and will be pretty bare compared to the Lacombe which cost 90 and has tealish blue detailing in the holes and shoe laces. Lastly the Nizza will cost 80 and will be the same colorway as the Continental 80, the whole line came out on May 26. Those are some of the launches of May, these are just the ones that caught my attention. If you want to read more on these I get all my information on sneaker news and hypebeast. Thank you for reading and see you next time.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SCIENCE IN OUR WORLD TODAY

It’s hard to imagine a world without science. From the wooden pencils on our desk, to the notorious air-pods of our unfaulty phones, science has not only always been there, but has always been vital for the daily life of all humans. Humans have this unique ability to persevere and evolve. Inventing is a massive day-to-day accomplishment that all humans endure, and power through to create the wonders of the world. Take a moment to look around and appreciate the wonders that have powered your world. You may find it difficult to find one central thing in your life that didn’t come from the phenomenal enlightenment for which mankind endures. Of course, I am not only thanking science for the regular things that we have, but also the scientists who have captured these wonders beyond our home, and photographed a black hole for the first time. April 10th marked a day of earthly magnificence. The abilities of human capacity are surely tapped when we photograph the impossible. Why does it matter? Because today, many of us live as though everything has already been discovered or invented. And yet, those who believed that black holes didn’t exist (cough cough, my brother), were able to leave their ignorant believes at the hands of science. With the feat of those with passion and drive, the world will only be the first steps in the vastness of the universe; and we all get to be a part of it. Look at what we’ve accomplished, and look what we can in the future.

PERFORMING ARTS RECAP

Last month was a busy month for Marina High’s performing arts students! Music students traveled to Los Angeles during the first weekend of April for their annual music trip, followed by the drama club’s production of The Addams Family Musical the following Friday and Saturday (a number of students were even involved in both). Let’s look at a recap of both of these events: Each academic year during the second semester, our school’s music students, under the direction of Mrs. Carney, compete in a music festival. This group of musicians is comprised of those in the orchestra, band, and choir ensembles (again, many students are in multiple of these groups). This year, students traveled south to the Music in the Parks Festival held at Disneyland Resort. At these festivals, each ensemble performs two pieces to be judged by esteemed music professionals. As is the case every year, all of our groups were successful - band received 4th place, choir 3rd place, and orchestra 1st place, as each ensemble returned home with the rating of “Excellent” in their respective divisions. In addition to these achievements, many memories were made as students spent two days at “the happiest place on Earth.” Well done Mariners! Just as our musicians returned home, tech week began for The Addams Family Musical, during which drama club performers rehearsed everyday leading up to the show with the direction of Mrs. Susanne Burns of Pacific Repertory Theatre. All of their hard effort paid off once it was showtime, as their performances were h i l a r i o u s l y bizarre, just as the Addams should be. Everyone did a fantastic job with their roles, and the combination of odd schemes and realistic concerns highlighted throughout the show made the audience feel “Happy Sad.” On what seemed like “One Normal Night,” the actors definitely showed how they can be “Crazier than You.” What a spectacular show! “Full Disclosure.”

PROM REVIEWS If I were to summarize this year’s prom, I’d describe it as charming. There was the certain ambiance to it that was classy yet welcoming - everyone was dressed so nicely in their gowns and tuxedos as well as generous with their compliments and kind gestures. The music was lively and the dance floor was almost always filled. There was something for everyone, from slowdancing with your date or taking cute pictures at the photo booth to even playing games with your friend’s Nintendo Switch on the balcony (yes, that was a thing…). I was surprised I didn’t get too tired dancing that night, since I spent most of my time doing that with my friends. Overall, prom was a feelgood experience, and anyone else who attended would probably say the same. A special thanks to the junior class, teachers, and staff involved for a good time, and congratulations to prom king and queen, Jeff Galvan and Hoan Le! Cheers to “Hollywood’s Prom Night,” I’ll be looking forward to next year! - Angela Marie Guevarra My first ever prom was amazing! Every single part of the day was fun; even the parts before and after prom, which are just as exciting as the actual dance to me. While getting ready, I couldn’t help but feel eager to show off my dress and makeup to everyone. Prom was an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and go all out with my outfit. While at the venue, I spent most of my time on the dance floor, as did almost everyone else. The entire place had really good energy, for color-coordinating couples and singles alike. Everyone was having a good time dancing, eating, and taking pictures at the photo booth! It was definitely a day well spent with my friends, and I really felt that I was getting the full high-school experience. Can’t wait for senior prom! - Denise moreno
