The tastes of the spa
Krynica-Zdrój is a culinary resort which has been eagerly visited by tourists from all over Poland. It is a trendy spa which in the 19th and the 20th century attracted artists and aristocrats. For them a lot of luxurious restaurants and cafes were established which operate until today. For them refined dishes from European and world cuisines, very often exotic ones, were prepared.
On the other hand, Krynica-Zdrój and villages which surround it lie in the Beskid Sądecki, in the area which used to be inhabited by Lemkos. Highlander and Lemko cuisines are still visible there. Next to exquisite dishes, we will find simple, but equally tasty, filling dishes of mountain people which are prepared from basic, local ingredients. We will be able to order kwaśnica, oscypek, bryndza, mutton or various noodles and dumplings.
Wooden villas
beautiful, wooden villas stand in a row by the Kryniczanka Stream. All of them remember the golden era of the resort, the time when great artists such as Helena Modrzejewska, Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński or Ludwik Solski used to visit the place. In some of them we will find restaurants and cafes whose interiors make you think of the spa from the old times. Green Wisła Villa houses ‘Smaki Wisły’ Restaurant (‘the Tastes of Wisła’).
By Dietl’s BoulevardsThe building was erected in 1880 for Emilia Burzyńska who hosted numerous guests at the place. A bit later it housed the office of the Festival of Jan Kiepura and Bogusław Kaczyński, who was the director of the event, stayed at the place. ‘Smaki Wisły’ Restaurant was reopened in 2021. In its climatic interiors exceptional dishes are served – breakfasts, dinners, refreshments, snacks and homemade desserts.
The Tastes of Wisła
In ‘Smaki Wisły’ Restaurant (the Tastes of Wisła) diverse dishes of both regional and European cuisine are served in a modern way. For a starter one can order grilled oscypek or beef tartare. Steak served on a volcanic stone takes
the lead among the main courses – this is the speciality of the place. The menu includes meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. We will also be able to eat burgers, Polish dumplings or Italian pasta.
Homemade desserts
You should definitely visit the place to have dessert. A patisserie had functioned in Wisła Villa since the beginning of the 20th century and it attracted such guests as Princess Juliana – the future Queen of the Netherlands. The most popular dessert is ‘kremówka’ – a cream puff about
which former visitors wrote in their diaries. Until now it has been prepared according to an old recipe. All the treats are made on the spot and will satisfy even the most demanding palates.
‘Smaki Wisły’ serves menu dishes daily between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Between 8am and 10 a.m., delicious breakfast is served to guests who stay at the guesthouse and outside ones.
Music evenings
Last but not least, one should visit the place in the evening to listen to live jazz music – we can hear the saxophone, the guitar and the piano. With such music, dinner with a glass
