A Message to Our Readers
Valued Reader,
Thank you for being a loyal member and reader of On KQED, your monthly guide to KQED Public Television. You may notice some changes with this July issue, as we have reduced the size of the magazine from 24 to 16 pages. This change was made as part of a series of cost-saving moves across the station to confront a widening budget shortfall.
This decision was not made lightly and the changes you’ll see were based on feedback from our readers. We have preserved space for the TV listings and highlights at the expense of other features like podcast recommendations, radio highlights and schedules.
Please rest assured that all of the programming information that was previously available in the magazine is still accessible on our website.
To find the schedules for KQED World (which will follow the national World Channel schedule as of July 1, 2024) and the PBS Kids Channel, please visit kqed.org/tv. Discover KQED’s audio programs by visiting kqed.org/radio and kqed.org/podcasts.
Let me know what you think of the changes by emailing me at eberrigan@kqed.org.

Moments in Time: 70 Years at KQED
KQED public media has been informing, inspiring and involving the San Francisco Bay Area for 70 years. To celebrate our anniversary this year, we’re revisiting memorable moments from the past.
Hosted by food and wine maven Leslie Sbrocco, the wildly successful Check, Please! Bay Area has been turning amateur foodies into critics and casting a spotlight on the Bay Area’s world-class culinary scene since 2005.
WHAT TO WATCH
Hotel Portofino, Season 3
The highly anticipated Season 3 of Hotel Portofino begins this month! Centered on a British family who runs a hotel for upper-class travelers on the magical Italian Riviera, the series explores the dynamics of life during the glamorous 1920s under the dark cloud of fascist Italy. Starring Natascha McElhone as Bella Ainsworth and Mark Umbers as her husband, Cecil, the exhilarating period drama invites us inside the romance, heartbreak, tragedy and turbulence bubbling within the glittering seaside oasis. Bella and Cecil wrestle with the despair of a Wall Street crash, and Cecil stuns Bella with divorce papers. Over the weeks, Bella must decide her future and also avoid the fascist leader Danioni, who threatens to expose illicit secrets. Watch the season premiere on Sunday, July 28, at 8pm on KQED 9 Sophie Kim, Editorial + Production Assistant

But soon enough, she’s pulled into a new mystery that requires the guidance of famous fictional detective Atticus Pünd.
