ith the warm days of summer behind us, we can now welcome in, and celebrate one of fashion’s most beloved times; fall. The rich colours of the season reflected in every outfit; the crispness of the air in every layer. Flip through the pages and you will catch glimpses of earthy tones, paying homage to the true beauty that is fall. But that’s not the only element visible within the pages of this iconic issue. There is individuality. Fearlessness. A push to be different. All of it encapsulated under one name: rebel. A rebel, defined as someone who resists authority, control or convention can be found all throughout this magazine. Dare to be yourself. Rebel is about expressing who you are by what you choose to wear, regardless of the day, month or year. It is about being the truest version of yourself, and going against the norm, embracing your own empowerment. This issue would not have come together without the hard work of our Krowd team, and all of the amazing submissions we have received. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in putting this piece of work together, and we hope everyone enjoys Rebel as much as we do.

ometimes it can be hard to find and embrace your own style when trends are constantly changing with the seasons. Don’t wear white after Labour Day. Wear richer, deeper tones into fall and winter. Don’t mix too many fabrics in an outfit; the rules are endless. What if we abandoned those rules all together and wore whatever makes us happy? That is the idea behind ‘Color Rebel’.Who says bright colours, or a bold print are exclusively for summer? Depending on where you live, shorts and a tank top may not be a viable option into the later months, but that doesn’t mean you have to abandon all vibrancy in your wardrobe. Picking your favourite pieces, whether it be a bold t-shirt, or patterned trouser and transitioning them into fall outfits is not as daunting as it may sound. Layering is great way to prolong the life of your summer clothes. Pairing a bright piece with an oversized cardigan and jeans, or a mixing a patterned trouser with a knit sweater are ways to not only stay warm, but hold onto those summer colours. Another tip would be to not be afraid of mixing patterns. Though there are a range of opinions on whether or not prints should be combined, we say why not? As long as there is some element that ties the two together, either a common colour or shape, go for it! Not only will it add some excitement to your fall wardrobe, but also allow you to embrace your rebellious side and show the fashion world who is boss. Next time you go to reach for that beige sweater, or black t-shirt, take a moment and think: is this what a colour rebel would do?

DMKONTRAST Bloggers

We are friends who connected through fashion. DMKontrast began as a creative outlet for us to share our mix of personal styles and stories about living in Ottawa. It chronicles our escapades and celebrates all things that inspire us in the realm of fashion. We enjoy writing, photography and mostly, styling! We hope to make DMKontrast a space where anyone can draw inspiration to follow their own creative endeavours.

ANITA K

Creative Stylist

Fashion is one of the most genuine outlets of expression, even for those who aren’t into fashion. My personal style comes in where fashion meets art; it’s almost a science. The way I dress is an outlet for all the bottled up creative energy inside me. For this reason, my style is forever changing as I experiment with different combinations of colours, textures, fits, etc. Usually well fitted pieces are everything to me, but this fall I am loving draping numbers because they allow maximal warmth and comfort.

Rebel - 95

EMILIE GIGNAC

Blogger My sense of style is influenced by my art: pale shades of my favourite colours. My love of the visual arts really helps me understand fashion and style. I pay close attention to trends: both in fashion and art. I’m playful and energetic, but I gravitate towards relaxed, casual chic styles with a feminine touch.

JAY CAESAR

Brand Consulting, Model

My character plays a big part in the way I dress. I like simple patterns and tend to choose less complicated designs over complexity. As much as I love casual styles, I sometimes love to wear a nice suit. Gifted, I wear the hats of a Model, Photographer and Brand Consultant! Fashion is part of me, photography is in the heart, consulting is a way to channel the business part of me!

Rebel - 97

JAMES JEFFERSON

Creative Director & co-owner of BLACKBOOK Lifestyle I have always thought that it is important to have fun with clothing, and not take yourself too seriously. What I wear usually depends on the mood I’m in about an hour before I walk out the door. I like to be dressed appropriately for the occasion, but with something quirky added to the mix!

MEGAN RACICOT

Designer, CECILIA RACICOT

I’ve always been a bit of a risk taker in fashion. Creativity is in my blood. I adore pretty prints and bold colours and if the FW16/17 collection is any indication, I love clean lines and I’m a sucker for plaid. Life is short…wear whatever your little heart desires.

Rebel - 99

KRITY S

Blogger

I am fashion and lifestyle blogger living in New York City. I work in fashion design during the day and blog on the side as my passion project. I love how fashion is a form of expression. There is no right or wrong. It evolves as you evolve as a person and can constantly change. Fashion has changed my life and I hope to inspire someone out there through my style.

ROOKIE

Upcoming super model

I’d say I have two distinct styles. They heavily depend on how I feel. The first style is what I refer to as the Sexy Cute or The Vixen one. When I’m in this mode you generally see me wearing bodycon dress, or tighter, shorter clothes anything that outlines my figure. Now, the second style, is more of my everyday kind of style. It has a urban to grunge feel about it. I still love my short dresses but when I’m in this mode everything is comfier and looser. It can fluxuate anywhere from sweatpants and chucks to a shirt dress and some kombat boots. It all depends on the weather and how I’m feeling that day.

ROMY JONES

Blogger

I’m the beauty blogger behind ymorbeauty.com. When it comes to fashion, I am a creature of habit, but I seek out pieces that transcend time and fads. I am still wearing items purchased 3-4 years ago and no one can tell!

I “

If you have a passion for something you can be successful,” says Ottawa’s fashion maven Sid Cratzbarg. “Success is not always how much you make but if you love what you do then you are successful.” Cratzbarg is no stranger to pushing the envelope when it comes to fashion and his career. After an early retirement from a successful career in education Cratzbarg launched Accessories By Sid. Soon after that he flourished as the fashion guy for CBC Living in Ottawa where his segments were shown on International Air Canada flights. Sid’s latest project is being a TV producer for his new show, Get Sidified that will be aired on the Rogers network. When he is not on TV, Sid is launching some of the most exclusive fragrances in Canada for men and women as well as serving as an ambassador the Burberry Cosmetic line. The self-proclaimed Aristocrat of Scent believes everyone should find his or her signature scent. But his advice is that you change your fragrances for different seasons. His current favorites are Lanvin’s Eclat D’arpege and Dylan Blue by Versace.

OUI C’EST CHIC!

K

atrina Turnbull is the fashion and lifestyle blogger behind Oui c’est chic! The fabulous mommy of two boys wanted to give other styleconscious moms tips on how to get ready quickly so they could feel good about themselves and take care of their families.

“It was very important for me to maintain my identity when I became a mom” says Turnbull. “I had seen a lot of friends change their style after having kids, like they thought they had to fit a certain stereotype.” Katrina describes her personal style as feminine and chic. Her favorite source for inspiration is Paris. She says she loves the effortless style of Parisian women. “They don’t follow trends like we do in North America,” she says. “Their look is supposed to be a bit messy, a bit undone. That lends itself well to life as a busy mom.” Blogging has afforded Katrina a full-time career and she does work with major brands including Nordstrom, L’Oréal and Hudson’s Bay. Her new TV show with Bell Media is also a result of blogging. Capital Style Files is a fashion television series that profiles Ottawa’s style influencers and the exclusive parties they attend. “It has been a great opportunity to elevate Ottawa’s fashion scene,” says Katrina. “Ottawa is known for being a leader in politics, technology, and the environment. But little is known about the city’s fashion industry.”

Best of this life “

No one has a perfect life, but we do have the opportunity to create a life that we love,” says Emily Smith, blogger behind The Best of This Life! Smith became fascinated by fashion in her early teens. Enamored with fashion magazines, personal style, thrift shopping and under her older sister’s influence she watched every episode of Fashion File and dreamt of owning a boutique filled with designer threads. Smith created The Best of this Life in 2011 and since its inception it has always been a place to share, encourage, and inspire. “Right after my son was born and while my husband was out to sea on a deployment with the U.S. Navy. I was living through so many emotions during that period - pure happiness with the arrival of my first child and deep sadness at being apart from my husband for a year.” says Smith. “I began writing about the best of my days to document and share the beautiful moments I was living in spite of the weight I felt.” She keeps up with current trends through magazines, blogs, and social media. Her favourite go-to product right now is the M.A.C. Prep and Prime Fix +, which is a lightweight water mist she uses before and after makeup application. Her favourite accessory is a great pair of sunglasses, she is a fan of the classic aviators. Her advice for upcoming bloggers is to create from within. “What you have to offer is unique,” she says.“Even if the subject matter has been done a thousand times, if it speaks to you, you will breathe new life into it and your readers will glean value from that.”

ICH WILL GIRL

A woman listening ennobled. Gradually wakes her most intimate rebellion, she released the bitter taste of waiting. Also, this woman faces the challenge of catapulting her wisdom and morality out of her ship, she knows that the treasure is in getting rid of the worldly earth and into the lyric and lyrics of rock & roll.
