The Red Deer County Bull Sale has become an event that maybe blends as many different buyers from both the commercial sector and registered breeders alike as any bull sale! Obviously the quality level has been consistently high in each of the respective breeds! Our foundation breeder to the sale, Oh Kay Farms, the Lougheed family of Red Deer, once again bring a product that blends Black, Red & Fullblood Simmental bulls for the list of good repeat customers they have built up over the many decades of breeding registered cattle. Applecross, who operate a very genetically appropriate Fullblood Simmental program that has incorporated a large polled nucleus to their herd. Regardless if Dennis & Jeanne are selling bulls or heifers, they are usually found on the high seller list. The Red Top program is always impressive and a big reason why is they know the value in owning great herdsires! Sons of the “Skor” bull, the “Janzen” bull and now “Roosevelt” will make up the bulk of this excellent string. I believe a feature to the sale season, in black, will be the “56U” son, they are selling, that was purchased as an embryo! Keato Meadows have been involved in this sale for years and will have their best set of bulls ever. They study both the horned and polled Fullblood Simmental pedigrees and blend them for a quality end-product. We have been pleased to have Chestermere Polled Herefords on our sale roster for several years now. The quality of decades of breeding is always so apparent! These bulls are always sought after by both the registered Hereford and commercial cowboys alike! Ross is a real gentleman to deal with. We are pleased to have Skelton Cattle Company joining Chestermere this year in our Polled Hereford section.

Last year we introduced Black Angus bulls to the sale, from Pieschel Farms, which as it turned out did nothing but add to the overall quality of the sale! This is an excellent program that has only “upped” their game from a year ago, with more of them, also combined with more quality. In tow, with the Angus will be two Simmis, solid black and black blazed from the Pieschels. This is a great young couple who represent Dad, Gary, very professionally. We welcome The Millers, from Cremona, to the Red Deer County Bull Sale. They are multi-generational purebred breeders and have an excellent string of bulls headlined by a standout Red Simmi! Chase also crosses over to the Angus section to add to the quality of this section. I tried Epic on a few heifers and I have been pleased with the growth in these calves. Hyrum is in the top 3% EPDs for both weaning and yearling weights. His dam is smaller framed and she milked very well to bring in an 825lb calf at weaning.

This is a bull out of a Skor cow Wilson and Lindsey purchased out of their dispersal sale. This bull may not be the biggest bull in the pen but he is very correct in all his own ways. He is very thick over his top and carries that power into his hind quarter while still being very smooth through the shoulders with a tremendous hair coat.

This calf has really done will on feed and was the heaviest calf when we took their yearling weights. His dam has raised bulls used by Rick Stauffer and Four Mile Creek Simmentals. Her heifer calf last year was Lindsey’s pick of the heifer pen last year. Holden will put pounds on his calves and money in your pocket.

The sire of this calf came from the Beagle dispersal as a result of a bred female we bought. We hoped that Farley would improve the shape of the hind quarters in his calves and he has done it here. 58H is a little thicker and does carry the muscle down the leg a bit more.

This calf is out of our new herd sire Freeman, who we purchased because of his power and growth potential and he has an outcross pedigree to our herd. This calf was the winner at weaning being the heaviest coming off pasture. He is long framed and has a tremendous hair coat. Our only black bull on offer this year but he is a good one. His dam is out of Smash who was one of the easiest keeping bulls we have ever owned. He always was in great shape and was never fed anything special unless you call slough grass special. This calf has a long spine and big middle and should add value to his offspring.

Polled Full Fleckvieh Hendrik or Hank as he is known around here has been a favorite around here since birth. He has always had a quiet disposition and has matured to be one of the heaviest bulls in the pen. He has a positive set of EPD’s in the top 15% of most categories and is in the top 2% in milk and maternal weaning weight so look forward keeping replacements for him. Full Fleck Dam has heifer in herd. This is a deep deep bodied calf with a smooth topped polled head. Hancock is out of a young Commotion female that came from Beechinor’s that is strong uddered and has a strong Roosevelt bull calf on the ground this year. Hancock is a dark red, long smooth made and clean in his lines. He was the only Challenger bull calf we had last year but the heifers in the replacement pen are impressive.

Homo Polled Hollywood is a thick made, deep sided with huge spring of rib and a strong foot under him. He is a complete package with balance numbers. Ben Hur has been a calf that’s continued to always remind us of his polled paternal grand dam Pina Collada 76P in many of his traits. He has her frame type, depth of body, and width of spine, making him the heavy weight in the bull pen. His sire, Gamut 39E, also homo polled, is leaving us some of our best calves. There could be much said about every cow in his pedigree, but the best would have to be good udders. Willie 426Y, sire of his dam, helps to ensure that trait. their calves to show up dark red. The sires in his pedigree are mostly dark liver red. Fonzie, Precision 16C, Willie 426Y, Jahari 8154, and sire to great grand dam Sabrina, who was so dark he was almost black. We have many Willie sons working in many herds now, that gives us satisfactory reports of their performance. He is dark red and highly pigmented like his sire, has good depth of body, lots of spinal length and thickness on strong feet and legs. We purchased his from Lonestone Farms a few years ago at their sale, and she has grown into a very good producer of the thicker, moderately framed animals that we all like. Gideon is a moderate frame prospect that may be a fit for the heifer pen. A great hair coat, long spine, matching partial goggles and non-dilutor status all combine to give Gideon plenty of flexibility. We added his AI sire, Guerrero, to our heifer bull rotation in 2019, and to date, all of his calves have come easy. Gideon’s maternal grandsire, APLX Rambo, walked our heifer pen for a number of years. Four generations of this cow family have worked here, beginning with one of our herd matriarchs, Dora Lee Jewel. We do not creep feed, all bulls are out on grass with their dams until September long weekend when they are weaned and put onto a super oats feed and free choice hay. this sale was the bull calf champion for Alexa at the AJHA show this past summer. Annually, our bull calves were weaned in mid November and reared over the winter in 5 to 10 acre fields where they can get plenty of exercise. They are developed on a strictly oat and hay ration. We have maintained and have used annual performance records in our herd from the beginnings of Alberta’s performance record program in the early 60’s. Today, we augment our performance evaluations with other tools such as genomics and ultrasound. Our whole Hereford cow herd has been DNA tested and our EPD’s are genomically-enhanced to improve their accuracy and usefulness.

Over the past few years, we have seen and increased market interest for information about carcass traits for our bulls and have responded by measuring and selecting. This year, most of our bulls on offer this year have Rib Eye Area EPD’s in the top 15% for the breed.

Terms & Conditions TERMS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. INFORMATION SUPPLIED The information contained in this catalogue is believed to be true and accurate. However, the information has been supplied by the seller and neither Transcon Livestock Corp. or Keltey Whelan Designs assume any responsibility if the information supplied is not accurate. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY A registration/recordation certificate issued by the applicable breed association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

SHIPPING Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. BREEDER’S GUARANTEE As per applicable Canadian Breed Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale. IS AGENT ONLY It is to be clearly understood that Transcon Livestock Corp. is only acting as a medium between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations, neither does Transcon Livestock Corp. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties, and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken, must be between buyer and seller.
