DO ME A FAVOUR Don’t want to spend money on traditional sugared almond favours that many people won’t eat? Consider going for the personal touch by making favours yourself. Use folded paper bags with sticky name tags as place cards, and provide a sweetie bar for guests to fill them up with sweet treats to take home. Got a lot of spare jars? Use decoupage paper, beads and ribbon to decorate and then pop in a tea-light for guests to have as a pretty keepsake. Spring wedding? Add some shabby chic tags to small organza bags, add some cute phrases to the tags like, “Blooming lovely”, “Let love grow” and “Spread the love”, and fill with seeds for your guests to plant as a beautiful lasting reminder of your special day. www.labellemag.com

Being a bridesmaid is a time-honoured tradition across the world. The origin of the Western bridesmaid dates all the way back to the Roman times. To prevent a bride from being cursed she would have identical bridesmaids to confuse the evil spirits and stop them from picking her out from the bridal party. In ancient China, bridesmaids would even guard the bride’s house and prevent the groomsmen from entering until they had answered questions on the bride and gifted a lucky, red envelope of money to them. These days the bridesmaid is less of a curse-fighting security guard and more of a helping hand and support throughout the whole wedding process. And the bride has to stand out from her bridal party now, not blend in; it’s her special day after all! The prize for a bridesmaid’s patience and dedication is the emotional reward of enjoying a more intimate perspective of the bride’s day. Plus a walk down the aisle with beautiful hair and makeup, new shoes and, of course, a fabulous dress! www.labellemag.com

The average bride will have three bridesmaids but it’s been known to have up to seven or more. For the bridal party the prospect of purchasing so many dresses can be a daunting thought.
ladies. For example a bridesmaid with an apple shape body would suit an empire line best, with focus on her bust and/ or legs. A straight figured girl would suit a dress that emphasised her waist and enhanced her curves.
No matter how many bridesmaids a bride might have, you can guarantee that they won’t all be the same height and shape. Putting your hourglass, apple and pear shaped ladies into the same style dress is bound to look unflattering on some of them. The last thing you want on your wedding day is a bridesmaid, or two, smiling through gritted teeth because they feel like a sack of potatoes. To avoid this, consider going with the same colour dress but in different styles to suit each of your
As well as style, consider colour. If you have two bridesmaids with contrasting skin tones, chances are they won’t suit the same colour dress. For example, if a bride has got their heart set on a light pink colour scheme, this could clash with an olive skinned bridesmaid. A solution to this would be to have the bridesmaids in different shades of the same colour, with a shade to suit each skin type. Your best plan, if possible, is for the whole bridal party to go dress shopping; try on dresses, show each

other how you look and get each other’s opinions - make a fun afternoon of it! You and your ladies will soon light up when they’ve got the right dress on. This will also allow you to see the colour in person and avoid the ageold mistake of ordering dresses online and then being horrified when the colour isn’t what you wanted at all.
and offer to pay the excess. Another tip would be to pick dresses that can be worn after the wedding day. A timeless dress, without too much embellishment, could easily be worn again at another formal function and ensures your bridesmaids get their moneys worth from their dress.
Money is tight for most of us these days so it’s important to set a reasonable budget and stick to it. A bride should agree this price limit with the bridal party beforehand. This way, bridesmaids will be prepared for the price tag and a lot more comfortable about paying for their own dresses. If your bridesmaids spy the perfect dress that’s a little over budget, the bride could compromise a little
Bridesmaids no longer have the responsibilities of days gone by but in the midst of stressful wedding planning you’ll need to be the bride’s support team, particularly on the big day itself. Remember to communicate with each other, make sure you’re all confident and happy with your fabulous dresses and help guarantee that your friend and bride-to-be has the best day of her life.

YOUR WEDDING STORY
“What’s the difference between wedding videography and wedding cinematography?” When you’re watching a home video versus a movie, you know the difference. The shooting technique, the image quality, and the storytelling are all very different. Videography is often seen as the long, boring wedding video captured from start to finish. Videography is not creative and it doesn’t use any sort of storytelling. Cinematography is different from videography because it is an art form that blends artistic shooting and creativity within the editing to produce a story. The wedding trailers you see on our website are all shot with a cinematic style. When we shoot cinematically, we capture moments such as the bride’s father seeing her in the dress for the first time, the groom reaction as he sees his bride walking down the aisle toward him, small gestures from people, tender moments, etc. and then we move around to get other interesting and creative angles of the same shot. While we are moving around to capture those different angles and perspectives, we are not recording the entire event apart from during the ceremony and speeches where we will capture the entire formality. Much like a stills photographer, we don’t constantly shoot, as we are moving around, we choose our moments. But this technique allows us to get those interesting shots that make your 16 wedding film unique and interesting to watch.
During the editing process, all those moments we captured are then interwoven with meaningful pieces of audio into a seamless storyline of your day. We use High Definition DLSR cameras, sliders, camera stabilization tools, lighting, wireless audio equipment, professional editing, DVD authoring, and coloring software and much more. Knowing what cinematic tools to use and when to use them is the key to making a documentary film or cinematic story that is not only enjoyable for the Bride and Groom to watch but for anyone else too. Depending on what package you choose, your wedding film will be about ten to twenty five minutes in length. In addition, you will receive the real time edits (minute by minute) of the ceremony and speeches. No two weddings are the same; this cinematic style of capturing your day is what gives our wedding films a unique look and feel. It is our passion to create films that tell a story of the couples that we film - striving to make each one as individual as each client.

EFFORTLESS ELEGANCE

www.labellemag.com
An elegant wedding day should be the embodiment of all things understated and classic - where less is so much more. It was this idea that inspired our latest cover shoot at Shilstone House. Shilstone is a beautifully restored, Georgian Manor in the heart of the South Hams. With romantic architecture and stunning, period features it was the perfect choice for a sophisticated, graceful shoot. Our model, the beautiful Rhianne Cawse, wore dresses provided by Sonia of Prudence Gowns. The bride and her dress are always the star of any wedding; an elegant theme enhances this by bringing her into sharp focus against minimal dÊcor. All three dresses differ in style but they each give an impression of elegance: 3666, by designer Sincerity, is a figure hugging, strapless, gown that embodies elegance. The Sweetheart neckline is a flattering cut for a bride of any body shape and can accentuate or flatter curves. It also elongates the neck and creates a graceful look. The 3666 is made with charmeuse fabric, with a slight shimmer, that closely resembles satin but with the benefit of being softer and lighter. The ruched, asymmetrical design complements the silky nature of the fabric, creating striking lines. The sweeping, pleated skirt creates a flattering mermaid style that emphasises a bride’s curves and give an added touch of glamour to the dress. The finishing touch of this stunning gown is the button down back - a subtle, simple detail, which makes all the difference.

Sincerity 3728 is a ball gown style dress also made from charmeuse. The flattering V neckline allows the fabric to wrap around the body beautifully, forming a drawn in waist. The beauty of 3728 is in its simple details; the cap sleeves, buttons down the back concealing a zip fastening and the Chapel length train - the most popular style of train measuring about three feet in length. Our final dress for the shoot took a slightly different direction. The Esme dress, by award winning designer Maggie Soterro, is a perfect example of how elegance can be embellished. The fairy tale style gown features a gorgeous, Swarovski crystal encrusted bodice. The more defined strapless, sweetheart neckline adds a touch of glamour to the look and the delicate Tulle skirt offsets the cold crystals with some romantic fragility. If you’re opting for an elegant wedding of your own, make ‘less is more’ your décor mantra. By reducing your wedding trimmings and focusing on a few gorgeous pieces you can achieve an understated, refined look. Minimal decoration will allow little details and, more importantly, your dress to really shine through. Jo Elizabeth from Envy at the Royal William Yard created Rhianne’s hairstyles for the shoot. Jo gave Rhianne a look reminiscent of Veronica Lake’s infamous peekaboo style for the Sincerity 3666 gown, which oozes sultry sophistication. Loose flowing hair paired with a figure-hugging gown is a perfect match. Jo’s second style for Rhianne was matched to her Maggie Soterro gown. Her hair is scooped up in pretty curls and adorned with flowers arranged by Sharon Mesher. This style creates an ultra feminine, romantic look whilst ensuring that the gorgeous, embellished bodice is on full show. When considering your wedding hair it’s important to bear in mind the style of your dress; make sure they complement each other instead of clashing. www.labellemag.com 21
Jo was also Rhianne’s makeup artist and gave her a warm, neutral look with a subtle pink lip to enhance her natural features. This simple rule applies to all brides; remember to keep your makeup toned down and light. Allow your natural beauty to shine through. You don’t want to feel like you’re not yourself.

Sharon Mesher Wedding Flowers and Marianne from Dazzlelicious Cakes collaborated to create the cake and flowers for the shoot. Marianne and Sharon cleverly incorporated details from the Sincerity 3666 dress into their work. The cakes features delicate folds in the icing, which mimic the dress design and, the bouquets feature a stunning, wrapped cloth handle using the same mimicry. These complementary details were carried throughout the photo-shoot and show there’s no easier way to co-ordinate your décor in an effortlessly elegant way. See our Behind the Scenes feature on page 84.

DIY SOS OR
With the current fashion for homemade crafts and “shabby chic”, many creative brides are undertaking various DIY wedding projects, both for aesthetic and economic reasons, but before you joyfully break out the glitter glue, you should probably sit down and honestly ask yourself whether you’re really up to the task. 32

Taking on a big DIY project (and trust me, creating 150 wedding invitations by hand counts as a big project), whilst also dealing with the normal stresses of organising a wedding, will often only add to your problems. At a time when you should be looking forward to your magical day, with minor worries about the weather and how you’re going to keep Auntie Eileen from falling over after too much gin, you could instead end up panicking about the fact that you still haven’t quite finished the homemade bunting to decorate your venue, or that the latest cake you’ve baked has sunk in the middle, again. Before deciding that you simply have to create something amazing for your big day, consider what your creative talents actually are. Been making elaborate cakes for friends’ birthdays for years? House filled with cushion covers and curtains that you’ve made yourself? Already do a fair amount of creative projects in your spare time? Then you probably have a good idea of what you want to do, how to do it and, in all likelihood, will feel better knowing that if you do it yourself it will be exactly as you envision it. There’s also the pleasure in doing the crafting itself, the sense of achievement once it’s finished, and of course the sense of pride when people admire your handiwork at your wedding. If however, that doesn’t really sound like you (after all, we can’t all be artsy and creative), you should probably consider other options. You don’t need to give up on the idea of DIY projects altogether, but perhaps you could pick a smaller element of your wedding day, or think about the skills and knowledge willing friends and family might be able to lend. Also, keep in mind that the charm of home-made crafts is that they look homemade, so if you want everything to be uniform and “perfect”, you should probably just consult a wedding supplier who will ensure that this is the case. Don’t forget that with the current trend for boho, vintage and rustic style weddings, many wedding suppliers can also specifically cater for a delicate, home-made look, which you may find is perfect for what you want, without the added stress. The main thing is to be really honest with yourself and really think about the implications of what you’re taking on. With that said, if you do decide to do something crafty for your wedding, good luck and most of all, have fun!
www.labellemag.com
33
Things to remember: 1) Don’t take on too much – it’s the lead up to your wedding, you don’t want to cause yourself massive stress and potentially put a strain on your relationships during a time in your life that is meant to be joyful. 2) Work to your strengths – think about what creative tasks you enjoy and very importantly, whether you actually finish those projects. It’s no good starting with great enthusiasm for it to quickly become a tedious chore. 3) Give yourself plenty of time – be realistic about how much time it’s going to take, especially if you’re trying out an unfamiliar craft or one that you’ve only recently learnt, as you don’t want to be up until 5am the night before your wedding finishing anything. 4) It’s not always cheaper –DIY projects will sometimes save you money, but not always. Unless you’re DIY-ing because you want something fairly unique that you can’t easily buy, it’s always a good idea to compare vendor prices with the cost of raw materials, as mass produced is often cheaper. 5) Don’t be afraid to ask for help – bridesmaids, parents, siblings and friends are often willing to lend expertise or a literal helping hand. It’s generally best to check before you undertake a project, but if things get really desperate, someone can probably help.

Heart
Sole A bride’s shoes will walk her down the aisle, sit with her through teary-eyed speeches at the head table and dance the Macarena with her at the evening disco! They’ll get more wear and tear than any other accessory; some might say they’re the most important shoes you’ll ever buy (no pressure!) Painful shoes can affect your walk, your mood and even your posture so it’s vital you find the perfect pair for you.

When picking your shoes, think about what you usually wear to ensure you look and feel comfortable. If you’re not used to heels you could be tottering around all day feeling awkward. Even if you practically live in your heels you might want to consider having a spare pair of comfy flats for later on in the day; after all it’s better to be safe than sorry. This is a particularly good point if you have a floor skimming gown and you can change your shoes without anyone being any wiser! Most wedding dresses fit a traditional look but your shoes are a different story - it’s an ideal opportunity to spread your creative wings and express your personality. Many brides opt for a pop of colour in their bridal shoes – imagine emerald or scarlet shoes to match a green or red colour scheme. You could even opt for sparkly, sequin-embellished shoes for a touch of glamour; this is especially effective if you have a calf grazing or knee length dress. More offbeat brides could go for an www.labellemag.com
alternative choice of shoe too; there’s nothing stopping you wearing cowboy boots or sparkly sneakers with your dress. This could work particularly well if your whole wedding is running on a quirky theme. If you’d rather go for the more traditional white, cream or ivory then do make sure it matches your dress. It sounds like an obvious point but shop lights can sometimes be deceptive; make sure you compare your dress and shoes shades in daylight to ensure they are the same shade. Don’t forget that your heel height will affect where your gown sits on you and where the hemline rests. To help you avoid costly mistakes aim to decide what heel height you feel most confident about wearing before you’ve finalised your dress. Try to take your shoes, or shoes of the same height, to your wedding dress fitting; this will make life a lot easier for your chosen dress shop.
43
Photography by Samantha Maber
If you want to guarantee your money’s well spent, invest in shoes that can be re-dyed or worn again. Instead of wearing them once and storing them away forever you’ll be able to wear them proudly again and again. It’s always the little details that make a big impression and your shoes are a perfect canvas for a little personalisation. Think of “I Do” printed on the soles of your shoes, or tiny charms with you and your new husband’s initials on them! If you’re a creatively talented bride-to-be then you could customise your whole shoe with some fabric pens and dyes. If you’re concerned about your shoes rubbing, then prepare in advance by wearing them in around the house a week before. When the big day comes along your shoes will be softer and not so unforgiving on your feet. With the right shoes you’ll float through your wedding day in comfort and style and, even better, you won’t be limping to your honeymoon with blisters! 44

Over thirty-five, industry leading, exhibitors had beautiful displays set up in Kitley’s newly refurbished rooms and in marquees in the gardens. We worked closely with all our exhibitors to ensure visitors had the best experience possible. All our exhibitors were able to chat to visitors, offer advice and inspire them with creative ideas. Visitors were also treated to a complimentary goody bag and glass of champagne as they arrived and enjoyed a relaxed and friendly wedding show experience. Many www.labellemag.com

Later in the afternoon, all our visitors gathered on the lawn for a spectacular catwalk show in the sunshine. Models strutted their stuff in wedding dresses, bridesmaid’s dresses and mother of the bride outfits complete with music and a PA. Throughout the afternoon, music was
In fact, our wedding show was such a huge success we’ve decided it’s only fair that we organise another! Make sure you mark March 2nd 2014 at Kitley House Hotel on your calendars as the next, not-to-be-missed, La Belle wedding show!

BUDDING BEAUTY
Some brides-to-be have had their perfect bridal bouquet planned since the age of six. But, for the rest of us, those pretty petals can leave us perplexed... Try to get in touch with a florist as early as you can in the planning stages of your wedding. But, before you dial your florist’s hotline, make sure you’ve bought your wedding dress or you’ve at least got it on order. It’s surprising how connected your dress will be to other elements of your wedding, particularly your cake and flowers. When you book a consultation with your chosen florist take a picture of your dress with you; they will use your dress design and style to help you create a complimentary bouquet. This consultation is a 54

good time to bring any family brooches or trinkets you might want included in your bouquet too. There are three main elements that come together to form your bouquet - the shape, size and flower type. The shape is very much linked to your dress. If you’ve chosen a wedding dress that’s full-skirted you’ll want a bigger bouquet to balance the look - a small bouquet would look tiny in all that gorgeous fabric. Likewise, if you have a slim line gown you need a smaller bouquet because a big bouquet would swamp you. www.labellemag.com
Once you know whether you’re getting a smaller or larger bouquet you can pick your shape. For example, the pageant or arm sheaf bouquet lies across one arm; it’s quite a large and formal arrangement and requires long stemmed flowers. A small, hand tied posy is a much smaller and informal arrangement and works best for boho style weddings. Try to bear in mind the formality of your wedding too, a more relaxed affair would suit hand tied and rustic bouquets and formal, traditional weddings suit neatly arranged, tidy bouquets. Again, your ever-dependable florist will be able to help you here.
www.labellemag.com
Other shapes include the traditional round bouquet, the nosegay (very similar to a posy but with more greenery and herbs) and the cascade or teardrop (a flowing, extravagant and expensive arrangement). There are also more unusual options like a Pomander (a ball of flowers suspended from a ribbon) or a basket of flowers - perfect for vintage weddings. Don’t be afraid to hold a few different shaped arrangements at the florists and see how you feel about them. You might change your mind about an arrangement once you know what it’s like to hold.

Finally it’s time for the fun part – the flowers! Now you’ve narrowed down what size and shape your bouquet should be, your choice of flowers should be made a little easier. There are several ways to choose your blooms: You might not know that there’s such a thing as Floriography or the language of flowers. Unfortunately this doesn’t teach you how to talk to your daffodils, it’s actually an ancient form of communication that became a huge craze during the Victorian Era and still exists today. Victorian couples gave a type of small nosegay called a tussie-mussie, usually placed in a little silver holder, to secretly express their feelings for each other. For example a red Rose means love, a Honeysuckle conveys the bonds of love and a blue Hyacinth means constancy. It’s all terribly romantic isn’t it? Kate Middleton used the language of flowers to create her wedding bouquet in 2011. 56
Her arrangement included Myrtle (marriage), white Hyacinth (Loveliness), Lily-of-the-Valley (purity of heart) and most adorably of all Sweet William (gallantry). You could do the same; work with your florist and ask them to choose a posy of flowers with these special, hidden meanings of love. Alternatively, think about certain blooms that hold a special meaning for you, individually and as a couple. The first flower your fiancé gave you, your Mum’s favourite flower or maybe a flower from your Mum’s wedding bouquet. If you have a colour scheme in mind then choose a bouquet of blooms that compliment that scheme. That’s not to say that a wedding with accents of green should have a bouquet of nothing but green leaves! You could use a bit of colour theory and pick a complimentary, opposite on the colour wheel or pair it with the classic white. www.labellemag.com
Photography by Rosie Parsons
Make sure to confirm that the flowers you want are in season before you set your heart on a bouquet that turns out to be unrealistic. If the worst comes and your perfect flowers are out of season, consider silk or paper flowers; they are guaranteed to stay beautiful forever and are never out of season! If you’re looking for a quirkier look and you have a larger budget you can always opt for a unique and extravagant button or brooch bouquet. These arrangements consist entirely of decorative buttons or brooches and are a real talking point of any wedding. We wouldn’t recommend throwing these over your shoulder at your ceremony though; you might give one of your guests a concussion! Above all, the most important aspect of choosing your bridal bouquet is to have fun! Your wedding will really start to take shape with your flowers sorted and should be an exciting time for you. Make sure you and your florist are on the same page; it’s important that they know what you want and it’s also vital that you trust them and their art. They’re the experts after all! www.labellemag.com

UNVEIL THE POSSIBILITIES... 66
www.labellemag.com
Photography Rosie Parsons
The origins of the bridal veil stem from the superstition that a bride needed to be concealed from evil spirits and the jealous eyes of men who were not her groom. These days, wedding superstitions have mostly passed into obscurity, and a veil is simply a beautiful accessory intended to complete your bridal outfit. There are an overwhelming amount of choices available, so here’s some guidance on the things to consider when choosing a veil that will compliment you best on your special day.
Your dress – The first thing to think about is your chosen dress. Is it vintage, sophisticated, romantic, elaborate? Does it have embellishments down the back that you want to show off, or a train? Is it long or short, A-line or empire cut? The answers to these kinds of questions will suggest the kind of veil that you should pick. A cute 1950’s style swing dress might look best with a shoulder length or visor veil whereas a classic A-line dress looks great with a multi-tiered mid length veil. If you’ve picked an elaborate traditionally styled dress with a train, you could consider a chapel or cathedral length veil, but this brings us to our next consideration... Venue – Cathedral length veils can look stunningly romantic when paired with the right dress, but you should also think about how it will look in your venue. Large and long veils can look over the top in smaller or less formal venues, and can be downright unwieldy without bridesmaids to help. If you’re likely to be spending some of your wedding day outdoors, a longer veil can become a nuisance in breezy or wet weather too. Hairstyle – Your choice of hairstyle will also impact on the type of veil you can wear. If you have short hair, or are planning to wear long hair down, you should look at lightweight or shorter designs unless you can attach www.labellemag.com
a longer or heavier veil to a hairband or tiara. Some veils are intended to be attached at the base of the neck underneath an elaborate updo, whereas vintage style cap veils will cover most of the head and hair but usually have pretty details on the headband, such as beading and lace flowers. If you can, buy well in advance and take your chosen veil along to your hair trial so that you can check it looks right with your chosen hairstyle. Body Shape – A veil can help compliment and accentuate your figure if chosen carefully. Brides who are top-heavy can slim and elongate the appearance of their torso with fingertip length veils or longer, whilst ladies who are bottom heavy can benefit from shorter veils that end at the shoulder or elbow, balancing out their proportions. Hourglass ladies can draw attention to their smallest point by considering a waist or elbow length veil and fuller figured brides are best sticking with simple, single tier veils that don’t add masses of volume to their shape.
In the end, you should pick a veil that you like and think works well with the rest of your bridal outfit and the style of your big day. Just keep our advice in mind, and you’ll have an excellent starting point when searching for your perfect veil. 67

NOW RELAX, IT’S THE HONEYMOON The honeymoon is important in so many ways; most of all, it’s your first holiday as a married couple. It’s your chance to make some memories and start your marriage with a bang! 74
www.labellemag.com
Trying to organise a perfect honeymoon and a perfect wedding is a stressful challenge, but, bear in mind the following guidance and you’ll find the planning process becomes less of a chore and more of a pleasure. It’s all in the planning - Traditionally a groom should arrange a honeymoon as a bride focuses on wedding arrangements. Whilst this will save your bride a lot of additional stress it’s important that you share your thoughts together. Start planning between six to nine months before you’re due to leave. As with the wedding plans, it’s essential you’re both happy to reduce the risk of conflicts later. If you’re struggling for ideas why not each write a list of your top three essential honeymoon requirements and combine them to create a honeymoon you’ll both love. Consider your shared interests, combine your favourite past times so both of you get to have fun; a little adventure mixed with a good amount of down time will keep either personality type happy. It’s worth visiting a good travel agent too; they can answer all your questions and act as your honeymoon guru. They’ll also be able to arrange your hotel and flights for you and take some of the responsibility from your shoulders. On the money It’s always difficult to balance budget with quality. Do try to stick to a budget once you’ve set it. Prices can mount up, especially after you’ve just paid for a wedding! Never sacrifice the quality of your honeymoon; everyone deserves the best no matter what their budget. Simply make sure the deals you get are value for money without being cheap. A trend in the world of honeymoons of late is the adorably named mini-moon. If you find you’re a little short on time or money then a two to three day break (or mini-moon) until you can afford a larger honeymoon, might be the best option for you. Under the weather Often, a couple choose a wedding date based on the season they’d prefer to marry in, not when they want to go on honeymoon. But, remember your wedding in August could clash horribly with a Jamaican Honeymoon. August happens to be right in the middle of Hurricane Season in the Caribbean. You’d be much better off considering Mauritius in August - an equally tropical destination without such a risk of bad weather. Don’t let your honeymoon blow you away for all the wrong reasons! Bear in mind other weather phenomena - earthquakes, volcanoes and flooding
www.labellemag.com
hotspots go hand in hand with the most exotic locations and should be avoided at their peak times if you want to escape the risk of disaster. Good things come to those who wait Some couples catch a flight to their honeymoon the morning after their wedding. You’ll probably be keen to jet off as soon as possible but it might be better to wait a day or two and wind down after your big day before you fly away. You’ve just planned a major event and exhaustion will still be catching up with you. If you’ve chosen a fairly remote, tropical location (lucky you!) you’ll be on and off connecting flights and have a fair bit of jet lag and travel stress to overcome; no one wants to spend the first day as husband and wife in an airport terminal! On your doorstep If you’re not a seasoned traveller or just the thought of all that travel time makes you feel a little irritable, don’t discount staying a little closer to home for your honeymoon. It might not sound as glamorous as the Maldives but the UK has a lot to offer newly weds. We have the stunning Lake District, the idyllic Cotswolds and the wilds of Scotland to name a few. The obvious added benefit, beside zero jet lag, is a cheaper price tag. What’s in a name? Whether the groom or bride is booking the hotel and flights, don’t forget to book with the bride’s maiden name and not her married name. You might be excited to try out the new surname but any official documents the bride has will still be in her maiden name and could cause problems with airport authorities. Don’t ask, don’t get It might feel a little awkward at first but remember to mention you’re honeymooners at every opportunity you can! Most places will offer you some kind of discount, allowing you to spend your hard earned cash on other little luxuries! Whether your honeymoon is on a shoestring or breaking the bank, in Dubai or Dublin - what matters the most is spending some much deserved quality time with your new husband or wife. Relax, have fun and start the rest of your lives together!

My name is Andrea; I have worked at Peter Goord for more than ten years and have been Manager there for two years. I look forward to writing a column for each edition of La Belle Magazine. I will be offering advice on weddings abroad, top destinations and latest honeymoon offers. We have a fantastic team of people who understand how special planning a honeymoon is to each couple. They’re happy to do as much research as needed to ensure you receive the perfect trip. From Champagne and petals on the bed on arrival to a picnic for two on a deserted island - nothing is too much trouble. We believe that it’s important for us to experience the destinations we are recommending. Each staff member will usually be sent on a familiarisation trip every year to our best selling and up and coming destinations. Between us we have visited over twenty Maldivian Islands, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Thailand, Vietnam and many more popular destinations. We understand that first hand knowledge is invaluable when selecting your honeymoon and we would be happy to make appointments for you with a Travel consultant who has visited your chosen destination. Your travel advisor can then advise you on the best location within your chosen area, recommend hotels and offer advice on local customs, excursions etc. Often Honeymoons are planned well in advance which means couples can take advantage of early booking offers such as room upgrades, free nights and early bird savings. If couples know exactly what they are looking for they can register their details with us in advance so they receive the best offers as soon as they are launched.
a SPECIaL TREaT
When available, we offer complimentary use of an airport lounge before the couple fly out. This is a special way to start your honeymoon, sat in luxurious surroundings, with complimentary snacks and drinks and a spa on hand should you fancy some last minute pampering.

Photography Head High Productions Flowers Sharon Mesher Flowers Cake Dazzlelicious Cakes
BEHIND THE SCENES A bride and groom put their faith in skilled artisans to craft all the elements of their big day. When the day finally arrives, meticulously planned details all come together seamlessly as if from thin air. In reality, a lot of behind-thescenes magic goes into trying to breath life into each couple’s vision.
La Belle was given a privileged peek into the design process of two local businesses. Sharon Mesher is an independent florist, specializing in weddings and corporate events and covers Devon, Cornwall and Exeter. Marianne Kuhn runs Dazzlelicious Cakes; her cakes are individually designed and baked to order. These talented ladies worked together to create the cake and flower arrangements for our photo-shoot at Shilstone House. It’s a great example of how professionals in different fields can come together to produce a shared vision, The first step was to gain inspiration for the bouquets to fit the theme of elegance. Both ladies had seen the dress before the shoot and incorporated the style into their work. When you have a consultation, with your florist or cake maker, take a picture of your dress with you. It will make a great foundation for you and the professionals to base your ideas on.
82
In the absence of a bride to consult, Sharon decided on a classic, round style bouquet with lilies and roses. She also integrated some subtle colour into the bouquet by using a pale pink rose mixed with white Calla Lillies and Bouvardia. Sharon and Marianne agreed that pale pink provided just the right amount of colour and elegance to the colour scheme. Keep your eyes peeled for the pastel trend in the coming year’s weddings! To add a little interest to the arrangement, Sharon also added pale blue delphinium with a peach spray rose. Instead of a pure white bouquet, Sharon had now brought the arrangement to life with subtle pale pinks, blues and peaches. Don’t forget to use the expertise of florists like Sharon when planning your wedding flowers; they know which flowers work best with your dress, cake and theme and will help you create your perfect bouquet. As a finishing touch, Sharon also included some jewellery from the shoot in the bouquet handle www.labellemag.com
www.labellemag.com
83
Both ladies used mood boards as they progressed with their work, in much the same way that they would for a wedding and mimicked the folds of the wedding dress in the fabric of the handle too. Little co-ordinations like this will tie a wedding together beautifully. Whilst Sharon was working on the bouquet, Marianne was hard at work on the cake. She also replicated the folds of the wedding dress in the icing to tie the details together in a subtle and elegant way. As the dress was so simply elegant the fold of the fabric could be taken advantage of, by both ladies, as the main unifying element between dress, flowers and cake. Marianne and Sharon were both in agreement that there should be colour involved in both of their creations to offset the simplicity of the dress and the neutral décor of Shilstone House. Consider the colour scheme of your own wedding venue when planning your cake and flowers; by adding pops of colour in bright or pastel tones you will draw the attention of your guests to certain elements of your decoration. 84
Marianne decided on a three-tier design, with the top two mimicking the fabric and including the same flowers as Sharon (pink Roses, a peach Rose, white Bouvardia and pale blue Delphinium) to bring the two elements together. The bottom tier includes a display of roses that add a touch of classic elegance to the cake display. Marianne even incorporated delicate little details of small, randomly placed, white flowers with tiny edible pearl centers. Intricate details like this will really wow your wedding guests! It’s surprising how many elements of a wedding combine like a jigsaw puzzle to create a singular look. When professionals like Marianne and Sharon work together they are able to pool their ideas together to produce great designs. It’s so important to trust the experts after you’ve hired them. Your working relationship should be of equal trust, compromise and, just like Marianne and Sharon, great minds should think alike.

MONIQUE & NEAL by Samantha Maber
Next to my sister, Monique is my oldest friend in the world. We first met when we were 5 years old, and even then Mon loved pretty things. Her feminine hats and bags with “the sweetest little panty eating butt” (as her dad so sweetly mentioned in his speech). Wedstock had Monique and Neal’s personality stamped all over it. It was a gorgeous day full of bubbly, bow ties, tea dresses, good food, good music and lots of love. Fran Soler from EGG & SPOON did the most remarkable lunch, a medley of goodness; pies and pasties, scotch eggs and goats cheese tarts, Couscous herbs and pistachio salads, cheeses, pickles and the best “darn float me down the river so good i dream of it” pumpkin seed pesto. After lunch, full bellies lazed on hay bales in the afternoon sun, sipping vodka pear and elderflower punch. Meanwhile, an unbelievable 5 piece folk band, Skinny Lister serenaded us with their infectious acoustic melodies. As the sun slowly melted behind the trees, the Egg and Spoon team starting cranking up the barbeques for a dinner of burgers and chorizo and prawn skewers. I was so busy licking my fingers I forgot to document this (oops!). Then it was speeches and dancing, and with the bunting strung high and a water pistol full of rum, a foot stomping do-si-do-ing Skinny Lister continued to ho heave the party into the morning. Thank you to my dear friend for the honour of being your bridesmaid. My wish for you is that your marriage will be colourful, and that your table always be full. May there be ladles of laughter, a medley of goodness and may you heave ho through life with the flags flying high. 88 We love you guys.
