SET-JETTING just the ticket If you’re stuck for travel inspiration ahead of booking your holidays in 2020, look to locations of blockbuster movies and miniseries and plan a “set-jetting” itinerary to satisfy your fan fetish. The set-jetting trend – travellers seeking out destinations they’ve seen in movies and shows – is also referred to as the “Mamma Mia effect”, and is driven by the global appetite for jaw-dropping pics on social media, plus the perceived kudos of taking them! Promising a boost to the local economy in revenue, event attendance and investment, tourism boards are eager to capitalise on its rise in popularity. Game of Thrones’ fans flock to the ancient Croatian city of Dubrovnik, which is already a magnet for cruise ships and yacht charter, to retrace the steps of their favourite characters in the fictional city of King’s Landing. Ireland and Iceland have also benefitted, with fans eager to see for themselves the cave where Jon Snow and Ygritte’s romance was kindled. The shimmering blue water of the cave can be accessed from a seam in the volcanic rocks of Grjótagjá, near Mývatn lake in Iceland, some six hours’ drive north of the capital, Reykjavík.

Chip Popescu, Director at Europe Holidays, says he has devised special packages for clients to make the most of their European sojourns, taking in iconic film locations. “Our clients will definitely make a detour if they know there’s a site or destination that has a connection with a famous film,” he says. “For example, ‘Mamma Mia’ really put the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos where it was filmed on the map, benefiting the local people and Greece.” “Game of Thrones has certainly increased visitation to Dubrovnik to see the landmarks where it was filmed and New Zealand enjoyed a boost following The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies,” explains Chip. “There’s even a ‘Hobbiton’ Village near Auckland, capitalising on the cult appeal of the films with movie set tours.” The only drawback to increased visitation to these alluring sites is that their popularity is leading to overcrowding and unsightly infrastructure, thanks to a flurry of restaurants, tours, merchandise and amenities catering to the influx of visitors. “That’s for local tourism organisations and operators to manage,” adds Chip. “So it doesn’t destroy the natural wonders and ambience people come to enjoy.” More at europeholidays.com.au

Crazy Rich Asians has spurred the next wave of setjetters to Singapore, eager to savour the lifestyle of the ultra-rich as portrayed in the film. Possibly the strangest turn of events is the impact on the grounds of Sydney University, which has been mistakenly identified as the backdrop for the Harry Potter film franchise. Granted, the neo-Gothic architecture of Sydney Uni, which dates back to the 1920s, does bear some resemblance to Durham Cathedral in the United Kingdom, where the Hogwarts scenes were actually shot, but a steady flow of Chinese tourists seem to believe the hype.

EyeSpy Paul Taylor, eyewear designer

From a technical background as an Optical Mechanic, to the creative path of eyewear designer acclaimed for his originality and flair, Paul Taylor continues to find inspiration in the many different faces and personalities of the people he encounters. “I don’t follow trends, they are boring and are for brands that have no vision and lack selfdirection,” he states emphatically. “I design eyewear to complement the eyes and that become the wearer’s signature look. The design flair and colour of the frame expresses the wearer’s personality, it adds to their character. It helps them exude confidence.” In a career spanning more than 30 years, Paul Taylor has acquired a legion of followers, each as individual as the eyewear they choose.

Swarve

One of the truly iconic Australian designers of this age, Paul Taylor and his ground-breaking designs have attraced an A-list celebrity following from the likes of Michael Hutchence, Sarah Murdoch and Jenny Kee to George Miller, Ken Done and Billy Connolly. Paul’s meticulous attention to detail, coupled with his technical background skills, mean that every element in the design process is masterfully crafted by Taylor himself. Quality and design are paramount, as are the enduring and beautiful materials used to construct each individual piece. Along with their characteristic frame shapes, it’s the colours that really make a Paul Taylor original stand out. Taylor sources 80 percent of the acetate material he uses from the Italian

manufacturer Mazzucchelli, and works with them to come up with the specific colour or tonal detail he has in mind. All components, including a selection of Carl Zeiss lenses for his sunglasses, are sourced from Germany in recognition of their extreme strength and longevity. The manufacturing takes place in Japan. For the eyewear connoisseur, Paul Taylor offers three distinct ranges: The Timeless Collection, the Black Label Collection and the PT Street Collection. The Timeless Collection includes Paul’s most iconic designs. The classic signature piece that started the evolvement of the Paul Taylor brand was the M001 cats eye design. Expanding the collection to distinctive bold round eyes to the oozing character of the rectangular Hutchence design, the Timeless Classics have stood the test of time.

Tigez

The Black Label Collection encompasses Taylor’s most recent releases. It captures the glamour of the 1950s through to the present day, comprising an irresistible colour palette including Paul’s own signature Fire Engine Red acetate. The PT Street Collection is a diffusion line where Paul Taylor continues to celebrate individuals who dare to be bold and stand out from the crowd.

Rad

With all the design elements of his eponymous eyewear, there is a distinct lack of logo or branding. “I don’t brand my designs with a logo on the temple,” he responds. “The branding is in the design itself. My designs are ‘distinctively Paul Taylor’ and recognised as such by my followers. “I prefer to mean more to the fewer than a little to the masses. Life is too short to be wearing boring eyewear, so I create for those who want to stand out and make a statement.” More at paultaylor.com.au M2010

Nature captured

A

ward-winning photographer and visual artist, Kellie North merges traditional photographic techniques with digital art and mixed media to produce images described as highly emotive, whimsical and evocative. With her lifelong interest in dance and women’s stories, Kellie creates a piece of art from start to finish without the use of models, using instead self-portraiture as a form of visual storytelling. Her art sells both nationally and internationally and has featured in publications such as Art Edit, The World of Interiors, Conde Nast UK and Home Design Australia, but it was the recent showcase on The Block that has propelled her work to new markets. Here, Kellie reveals just how the TV exposure has impacted her profile.

Before The Block started, I was followed by about 834 people, and now I am at 1,204, so 370 more people who know about my work. I have since been asked to speak at photography clubs about my process which is an incredible honour. I love this sort of thing, because I get to be in a room of like-minded people talking about the thing we love. What does 2020 hold for you? NEW WORK! This is my priority. I am currently working on a few new pieces and will release them shortly. Next year I would really love the opportunity to collaborate with people, cross pollenate our creative skills.

How did your foray on The Block come about? It was a Thursday night when Nancy Donaldson from Art Lovers Australia called me and asked if I could get three artworks to The Block site in St Kilda, Melbourne ASAP. My instant reaction was “YES, YES of course I can” so with my husband I got organised, booked a flight to Melbourne and took the artwork directly to the shows site myself. I was met by the crew who gave me a mic, a hard hat and a Hi-Viz vest and I met Elise and Matt. I was immediately comfortable, as if I had known them for years. For an artist, to showcase my work nationally on a hit show like this, is such a wonderful opportunity, and I am truly grateful to everyone who made it happen.

Also, my family and I are taking four months off to travel to the top end of Australia, so I am really looking forward to new landscapes and new material to work with.

How has that impacted on your profile? It has been an amazing gift. Having my work on The Block has opened the doors to new and exciting creative opportunities which I am so thankful for. On a social media note, it has made me very busy, I don’t think I have ever done so many posts. At least now I feel like I have something to post about!

FUTURE FOODS

UK chain, Whole Foods has made its predictions for top food trends coming in 2020.

Leading with “regenerative agriculture”, which is all about farming practices that benefit the land (and or environment in general) as opposed to hurt it, the list is diverse, different and appetising!

nuts aiming to either eliminate the use of rainforest palm oil, or use a sustainably sourced version.

The gluten-free foods movement has opened the door for a wave of leavening agents based on cauliflower, bananas, coconut, and tigernuts, all of which will shine in 2020.

Traditional kid-friendly foods have been reimagined to become healthier, including organic chicken nuggets, non-bread crumb real fish sticks, and various gourmet options for the junior set such as roasted seaweed and lemon basil chia shortbread cookies.

Healthier single-serve snack options also make the list, including pre-packaged snacks to suit the graband-go market, among them hardboiled eggs with savory toppings, pickled vegetables, drinkable soups, and mini dips.

Less beefy burgers will be a highlight, replacing part of their meat content with an eco-friendlier filler like mushrooms, as meat companies experiment with their own bio-tech variations including beef-quinoaand-veggie meatballs.

Alternative-dairy items will be on the rise, while supplements and sauces will also launch substitutes, such as “no-soy” soy sauce. Nutty butters will offer health versions, based on watermelon seeds and macadamia

And finally, an array of non-alcoholic beverages, including upscale and craft beers, fake spirits, seltzers, and for top tipples without the effects.

Jennifer Lopez, known universally as “JLo” is the epitome of versatile, inspiring and fabulous at 50. Among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, and an icon in the realms of fashion, music, small and silver screens, Lopez is at the top of her game, now more than ever and living proof that age is merely a number. Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born in 1969 in the Bronx, New York to Puerto Rican parents. A dancer from the age of five, Lopez scored a role as a back-up dancer for New Kids on the Block, before making her acting debut at age 16 with a small role in the 1986 film My Little Girl, followed by various bit parts and guest appearances throughout the nineties in TV series, including a regular role as a Fly Girl dancer on the iconic show, In Living Color.

In 2001, with the simultaneous release of her second studio album, “J.Lo” and her romantic comedy The Wedding Planner, Lopez became the first woman to have a number one album and film in the same week. From there followed a plethora of film roles alongside acting luminaries such as George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes and her boyfriend at the time, Ben Affleck, as well as dominating the music charts and judging on hit shows American Idol and World of Dance. She even lent her voice to animated characters in the movies Antz and box office phenomenon, Ice Age Continental Drift.

46

It’s hard to imagine juggling the demands of this multifaceted career, but add to that the commitments of motherhood and mere mortals would collapse in a heap. Lopez shares 11-year old twins, Max and Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. In 2008, she took an extended hiatus from her career to enjoy the double delight and learn to get the balance right. “Life is about balance,” Lopez says. “It has always been about love and family for me, I’m a romantic that way. As much as work fulfils me and as much as I enjoy it, it pales in comparison to the joy and happiness I feel with my kids and my family. My kids did help me get more of a balance and learn to manage my time. I want to give them as much time as I can and make sure they always feel they’re my priority – because they are.” But it’s JLo’s most recent film, Hustlers, which she co-produced, that demonstrates her exceptional work ethic and has garnered her most praise, GQ’s 2019 Icon of Year, and nomination for Best Supporting Female Actor in the Film Independent Spirit Awards. It could also see her win acting’s most coveted prize, an Oscar. In Hustlers, Lopez plays tough-as-nails- exotic dancer, Ramona. The movie was inspired by the 2015 New York magazine article entitled “The Hustlers At Scores”, the story of a group of Manhattan strippers as they discover they can make serious money scamming their wealthy Wall St clientele.

rs Premiere

It wasn’t until 1999 that Lopez released her debut album, “On the 6”, which had hit singles like “If You Had My Love" and "Waiting for Tonight”. It went platinum within two weeks.

For her contributions to the music industry, Lopez received a landmark star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And with that, J.Lo’s crown as a “triple threat” – actress, singer, dancer – was conferred. To date, she has eight albums to her name and an estimated global sales total of 80 million records.

Image: Alamy Hustle

Lopez’s first major film role came in the 1995 motion picture Money Train alongside Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Lopez received her first leading role in the Selena biopic in 1997. The film was a commercial and critical success, earned her $1 million and a Golden Globe nomination.

As if that weren’t enough, Lopez has a clothing line, The Jennifer Lopez Collection, her own makeup line called Inglot, a flurry of fragrances and penned a book called “True Love” about how she “confronted her greatest challenges, identified her biggest fears, and ultimately emerged a stronger person”.

After months of diligent training, and severe bruising on her thighs, Lopez mastered even the toughest routines, testament to her drive and professionalism. “She was able to achieve her goal by the end, which was turning upside down and ultimately looking like she’s been doing this her whole life,” added Sapakie.

Lopez stars in the film alongside Cardi B, who previously worked as a stripper before becoming a successful rap artist and actress. The movie opens with Ramona bursting onto the stage to the opening chords of Fiona Apple’s anthem, “Criminal” in nine-inch heels and a barely-there rhinestone bodysuit that was essentially a thong connected by three straps, or as Lopez describes is “a ball of string with some chains on it”. She then leaps into a four-minute pole routine designed to knock the audiences’ collective socks off. Since there were no body doubles in Hustlers, Lopez had to undergo months of intensive training.

So far, Hustlers has grossed an astounding US$150.5 million worldwide – not bad for an R-rated movie with a production budget of $20 million, aimed at women with a predominantly female cast and a female writer/ director. Beneath the glitz and the gritty nocturnal lifestyle, the film centres around the relationships women have with each other, overturning the status quo with a view of the world in which men are relegated to nameless clients. Hustlers is also a movie about money and how it makes the wheels of society turn. Ramona puts it succinctly when she states “This city, this whole country is a strip club. You got people tossing the money. And you got people doing the dance.” But Lopez insists, despite the fortune and the fame – Forbes estimates that she made $47 million in 2018 alone – she is still “Just Jenny from the Block” and her ambition is focused on the art. “I've never been motivated by money,” she said accepting her GQ 2019 Icon award. “I’ve always been motivated by — I want to be a great actress, a great singer, a great dancer. I want to make movies, I want to make music, and the money came along with that.”

In a candid mini-documentary on YouTube, Lopez reveals that despite her solid background in dancing, mastering pole dancing was “the toughest thing I've ever done physically”, with the sole aim of looking convincing. Lopez says she installed poles in her homes in Los Angeles, Miami and New York so she could practise anywhere under the guidance and instruction of Cirque du Soleil pole performer, Johanna Sapakie. Working with her personal training to strengthen her core and upper body to be able to perform certain moves such as the inverted splits, where she supports her entire body weight with just her arms and shoulders. A 10-year veteran of Cirque and the choreographer for the pole dancing scenes in Hustlers, Sapakie slowly introduced Lopez to the principles of pole dancing, such as basic spins and climbing, one movement at a time. According to Sapakie “There’s one where she actually wraps her legs around the pole and just squeezes with her inner thighs and that’s all she’s using to hold on, and that definitely took some practice because you really have to engage those inner thigh muscles in order to hold yourself on the pole. So that's not one that came on day one!”

Today, in a new phase of life with her Jennifer Lopez and fiance, Alex Rodriguez Image: Roadshow Publicity Hustlers movie partner of 2 years and fiancé since March, former baseball star, Alex Rodriguez, Lopez says she’s happier than ever. “We’re in a very different place in our lives. We’ve both grown enough to appreciate something that’s special. It’s a healthy, happy loving relationship in which out children feel included, and that’s a beautiful thing for both of us.”

Australians worship the sun and the long balmy days that lend us the world’s most enviable lifestyle. But our skin is not so grateful. See the light Treat your skin and reduce the brown spots and fine lines that can be caused by prolonged sun exposure. Health & Beauty Naturopath, Angelo Di Sapia says we should look for two main ingredients in skincare products that will help reduce pigmentation caused by the sun’s harsh rays: Phytoene and Phytofluene, which are known to absorb UV light and brighten skin tone by having a direct effect on skin pigmentation and protecting the skin from damage; and Squalane, which occurs in the skin as a natural barrier, protecting the skin from moisture loss and providing a shield for the body from environmental toxins. HIVITA’s Luminous White Ultra Skin Renewal Cream has both of these ingredients to even skin tone and help delay premature ageing of the skin. Up close and personal

Introducing the secret to smooth, selfie-ready skin. Our skin is our largest organ. Anything absorbed through it goes directly into our bloodstream. This includes personal- care products such as shaving creams which often contain thousands of different chemicals with varying toxicity. Waxing rips out the hair by the roots and can damage the skin. In some cases, it can cause infections, burns and in-grown hair. Razors are costly overtime and the EPA estimates that two billion razors are thrown away each year in the US alone, and around 32 percent end up in the ocean instead of landfill. Selfie Skin is a clinical-grade IPL Hair Removal Handset that allows you to remove hair by laser from the comfort of your own home. IPL works to destroy hair follicles, reducing the amount and density of the hair that grows back. It uses a single wavelength of light to target, heat and damage hair follicles. Most people need three to six treatments to get the hair out of ‘growing phase’ and from there you will require fewer touch ups the longer you use it. Best of all, Selfie-Skin works anywhere on the body, from underarms and legs, to your bikini line, and every device is designed to generate 300,000 flashes — that's equal to 10 years of usage. https://selfieskin.com.au/

STAR IN THE HAUS With the tagline “Our Haus. Your Rules”, Lady Gaga launched her own make-up line, with typical fanfare and a cast of thousands of her expertly styled Little Monsters. In her latest role as beauty entrepreneur, Lady Gaga says her make-up brand draws inspiration from her early days as an aspiring singer in lower Manhattan, applying drugstore makeup to form what would become her signature look.

As the Oscar-winning (and multiple AMA, Grammy and GLAAD Award-winner) explained “When I was young, I never felt beautiful. And as I struggled to find a sense of both inner and outer beauty, I discovered the power of makeup. I remember watching my mother put her make-up on every morning, basking in the glow of her power to put on her bravest face as the hard-working woman she was.

The first drop of Haus cosmetics comprises kits combining lip gloss, lip liner and all-over colour. “Colour is completely transformative — it’s powerful, it’s beautiful, and it’s how I found my voice with makeup,” the singer said at the September launch, hinting at an extended collection by early 2020. Positioning herself as the embodiment of authenticity and inclusivity, Gaga’s Haus Laboratories is the antithesis of the filtered, facetuned brands so prevalent on social media. Available exclusively through Amazon, the range focuses on Gaga’s messages of self-acceptance and confidence to be whomever you wish, especially yourself!

“I then began to experiment with makeup as a way to make my dreams of being as strong as my mother become true. It was then that I invented Lady Gaga. I found the superhero within me by looking in the mirror and seeing who I wanted to be. “Sometimes beauty doesn’t come naturally from within. But I’m so grateful that makeup inspired a bravery in me I didn’t know I had. I’ve come to accept that I discovered my beauty by having the ability to invent myself and transform. They said I was weird, but really, I was just Born This Way.

“Look, you might want to look like the DuPont twins. You might want to look like Erin or Kitty. Or you might want to look like you. And that’s the nut that I really want to crack,” she said. “I have a platform in the world. God gave me this voice for a reason, I don’t know why, I ask myself that question all the time, but I’m sure as hell not going to put out a beauty brand that is going to drive insecurity and fear into people. This is about liberation.

WHAT'S IN STORE

BLACK CRATE MAGIC

Ashley Tran-Suzuki, owner of Black Crate, a collection of ultra-modern dinnerware, table styling pieces and modern meets art-deco custom-designed dining furniture, shares the secret to the brand’s design success. What is the Black Crate Story?

My husband and I wanted to create an unforgettable dining space where we entertained and I really struggled to find dinnerware and cutlery that was striking, made from premium materials and unique. I wanted something that boasted unique tone, texture and style. I met my cofounder in 2015 and we became great friends as we worked in the homewares industry together. It was during a conversation at the beginning of 2017 when magic happened and the vision for Black Crate literally came to life. I flew to Melbourne the next weekend to plan the brand concept and the next few months involved intense hard work in bringing it all together. This culminated in our showroom in Fitzroy Melbourne that opened in July 2017. For me, the brand is about enhancing human connectivity. I view our products as being vessels that enhance not only the dining space but the connection that happens during the intimate experience of sharing a meal with friends and loved ones.

What’s the significance of ‘Black Crate’ as the brand name?

Offering beautiful packaging was very important to us, we knew it would be key to distinguishing the brand in a competitive market, and we really wanted to create something distinctly unique to the brand. All Black Crate dinnerware is delivered inside the custom black crate.

62

How do you decide which dinnerware products to stock at Black Crate?

For the dinnerware, the product and design sourcing is organised by me and my Creative Director. For our furniture range, it is custom developed by prominent Melbourne Architect and Interior Designer, Elvin Tan. When it comes to the dinnerware, we research and follow international trade fairs extensively and devour religiously leading design magazines. My husband is Japanese, so I am very fortunate to be able to visit Japan regularly. I draw so much inspiration from these visits to Tokyo as the city is the ultimate fusion of east meets west and in terms of international trends, it’s one of the leading cities to watch.

Why is texture so important in creating a luxe dining space?

Texture will enhance your table setting by simply making it more visually striking. If you then add tones to the setting that align with your colour theme, you then find yourself with something very special and visually appealing. This all contributes to the luxe look and feel.

Can you share any styling tips for creating a beautiful centrepiece for a dining table?

If you look at the centrepieces that we have on our dining tables in our showroom, you’ll notice that they don’t just rely on floral arrangements for impact. We style centrepieces using our range of accessories as well – for example we use gorgeous solid oak wooden salt and pepper shakers and lay our spices on a marble slate to style one table and another has a solid black wooden serving board, paired with smooth matte black salad servers and striking grey tree branches. The idea is to ensure you have a cleat set colour theme, and from there play with different textures and tones. More at blackcrate.com.au

MORE THAN A MAKEOVER The 2020 Discovery Sport is a versatile, compact SUV, souped up with technology and laden with family-friendly features.

The incredibly competent seven-seater SUV has been updated by around 70 percent, including a new streamlined, sporty look, new grille, lower and wider mouth, new headlights, new LED tail-lights with dynamic indicators and a new bumper. Under the fresh exterior beats a heart of impressive new technologies. Using a combination of your key fob and smartphone, Discovery Sport recognises your preferences, for example, setting the navigation to your favourite route home. You can use your smartphone to check the fuel level, unlock the vehicle and pre‑heat or cool the interior. Discovery Sport’s open, bright interior provides a sense of space. Clever storage solutions throughout allow you to avoid clutter while taking everything you need. The centre console, infotainment, instruments and steering wheel are all updated, borrowing heavily from Range Rover styling. The 5 + 2 seat arrangement can be configured in 24 unique ways, allowing for a hugely practical solution to interior space and passenger requirements. With a suite of technologies, including Active Driveline1 and Configurable Dynamics1, Discovery Sport delivers an exhilarating drive, whatever the road or conditions. Terrain Response 2 enables you to easily access the marque’s 70‑plus years of expertise, with the vehicle automatically selecting the most appropriate off‑road driving mode. The next generation of Standard Driveline technology enhances stability and traction in slippery conditions or while off‑roading. Precise dynamics and a supple ride are delivered through Adaptive Dynamics by monitoring wheel position and body movements. The electronically controlled dampers optimise the suspension settings and provide the perfect balance of comfort, refinement and agility at all times. Discovery Sport uses the latest safety technologies, including Electronic Brake‑force Distribution, which automatically varies the braking force to each axle in order to minimise stopping distance, while still maintaining stability and the vehicle’s ability to steer.

66

Dynamic Stability Control reduces engine torque and applies braking to the appropriate wheels, correcting the direction of travel by counteracting understeer or oversteer. Emergency Brake Assist understands when the brakes are applied quickly but without the necessary force to maximise stopping performance. It boosts brake pressure to ensure you stop in time. Hazard warning lights activate automatically during emergency braking. Emergency Braking is fitted as standard. Sensors detects when a potential frontal collision with another vehicle may occur and display an alert, warning the driver to brake. If the driver does not react, Discovery Sport deploys the brakes to reduce the severity of possible impact.

The 2020 Discovery Sport will be offered in S, SE and HSE grades, with all models being powered by a nine-speed automatic transmission. The base-spec S models are offered in P200 guise (2.0-litre petrol, 147kW and 320Nm) from $66,900 and D150 (2.0-litre turbo diesel, 110kW and 380Nm) from $66,900. Step up to the SE and you’ll have a choice between the P250 (2.0-litre petrol, 184kW and 365Nm) for $75,889 and D180 (2.0-litre diesel with 132kW and 430Nm) for $74,750. Renowned for her first to market strategies as she is for her daring designs, Rebecca Klodinsky is one bikini entrepreneur who has achieved cut-through through high cuts. The brand burst into the world a short five and a half years ago and quickly became synonymous with smooth, sleek swimwear cut to absolute precision. It quickly transformed into an international household name thanks to its celebrity clientele and first-to-market social media strategies. Founded by bikini connoisseur and fashion fanatic, Rebecca Klodinsky, Frankii Swim uses luxurious textiles and classic cuts which have attracted a cult following. By meticulously re-engineering the basic bikini, the label has single-handedly created a legion of loyal followers, with an appetite for high quality, wellstructured swimwear. Rebecca Klodinsky is the business-savvy 30-year-old who since launching the brand in December 2013, now earns over $7 million annually. What started as a simple philosophy; to create a swimwear line that

did not compromise on style and design, whilst not being heavy on the pocket, soon turned into an international powerhouse. The brand shot to stardom after the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, Rhianna and more were spotted donning the bikinis on their glamorous getaways. Rebecca originally studied Psychology and Forensic Science at university, before she turned her mind to affordable swimwear. Most recently the designer held the first ever digital 'pop-up sale', inviting her followers to shop her on-trend bikinis and swimsuits at outlet prices. According to Rebecca, commitment to her vision and keeping it simple are the keys to success. “We don’t overcomplicate it. Our philosophy has and always will be the same thing: stylish, supportive and simple swim at happy prices.” More at australia-frankiiswim.com

LABEL MAGAZINE SUMMER 2019/2020

Cool it! Summer is shaping up to be brutal, with record high temperatures and bush fires in many areas.

Our pets can suffer from stress and overheating which at its worst can lead to organ failure and even death. Pets that are elderly, overweight or suffering from a medical condition are particularly susceptible to heatstroke. Thankfully, the RSPCA has provided five essential tips for keeping pets cool this season: 1. Exercise in the morning or the evening rather than the heat of the day. This will prevent your pup from dehydrating or burning their paws on hot pavement or asphalt. 2. Never leave your pet alone in your car or ute. If you see a distressed dog alone in a car, call emergency services.

3. Make sure your pets have access to plenty of shade and clean, fresh water. 4. Bring your pets inside on extremely hot or humid days. 5. Keep your littlest pets in the shade or indoors at all times. Make sure you move birds, guinea pigs, mice and ferrets into a shady, well-ventilated area in hot weather or bring them inside into a cooler room like the laundry. More at rspca.org.au

Are you legally protected from bushfires? This month Bushfires are raging across Queensland and destroying lives, homes and valuable properties. The current situation across both Queensland and New South West is dire, with 50 bushfires burning in Queensland and 60 in NSW. At least three people have lost their lives to the fires and many others are missing or injured. There are over 150 homes destroyed by blazes. Experts warn that “this disaster is far from over and the worst may be yet to come with summer ahead”. With Christmas holidays around the corner, many Aussies may also travel for holidays, leaving their properties vulnerable to potential risks. OMB would like to discuss some of the important legal preparation Queenslanders should consider.

Consider obtaining Insurance advice about securing life, TPD and trauma insurances. If your property gets damaged, be prepared to lodge an insurance claim soon after the event.

Prepare or update your Will and Enduring Power of Attorney. We recommend seeking proper legal advice when it comes to setting up a Will and/or Enduring Power of Attorney.

Insurance

Make sure your insurance is up to date, and has the right cover for fire and flood; If you are letting your property, you’ll need to let your insurance company know you’re no longer living there and arrange landlord’s insurance. Your tenant will probably want to get contents insurance and many companies require door and window locks to be of a certain standard. If you are letting your property for short-term rentals (eg Airbnb, Stayz, Wotif etc), you must check if your policy is compatible for this purpose. Certain policies may also distinguish between professionally managed properties or self-managed properties.

Prepare an important documents kit, including a description of your home and a list of your valuable belongings. Compiling passwords and keeping this with your estate planning documents is also a handy hint. In the event of a disaster you can contact OMB Solicitors at 07 5555 0000 for legal advice. We rise by lifting others There was such positive energy at the Women of Influence annual High Tea and Business Bubbles at RACV Royal Pines Friday 29 November. The event was sold out once again and almost 200 excited guests were greeted by a decadent display of Palm Springs style furniture, a delicious spread of high tea treats and waiters offering cold glasses of bubbly. RACV OneSpa’s therapists were on hand to give guests a neck and shoulder massage, plus the ladies from Arbonne were there to touch up make-up and showcase gifts and “must haves” for Christmas. Guest speaker was an inspirational businesswoman, author and speaker, Lisa Burling. She has a story to share about how she turned her life around from being a hotpot of overwhelming devastation to happiness and success by telling herself “Dream small Lisa, stay focused”.

In the theme of supporting local businesswomen the event showcased beautiful designs and furniture from local businesses Dune Outdoor Luxuries, 3Beaches Textiles and the Textile and Design Studio.
