Roads Living in the capital of the world’s traffic, Cairo, roads became one of my life companions! We meet daily, we witness changes in our appearances, our mood swings, and we share our time and energy … We even salute each other and sing together! Sometimes we are forced to take other roads; some other times we just choose to select a new road, and maybe even a mix of both! You may feel bored with taking the same road over and over and you need a change of scenery or just a simple change of daily routine! But all that matters is that you will leave a road to take another… I’m sad –and happy!- that it is a time for me to lead a new road and reach a new destination, with all its dreams and ambitions! Ladybird you have been my baby for over 6 years and you will always be my first and favorite baby! You have been a learning road, a fun road trip and above and beyond my first love! To Naira and Samar I wouldn’t trade your company for the world! I love you both so much! To Zeyad, thank you for giving me the opportunity… To Randa, Farah, Eman, Noura, Karim and Peter thank you for making a great team behind our success. For Radwa El Mazny and Heba Khattab, working with you was beyond fun and friendship! For all our contributors, business partners, clients, previous employees, and current ones, thank you so much for your continuous support and cooperation, I love you all! Wish me luck on my new road! I wish in the middle of our life traffic jams for our roads to meet and intersect again! Very soon!

Fashion
Fashion On Board Personally, I like to travel in both style and comfort. I just can’t imagine myself walking through airports or attached to the airplane seat for hours in fancy clothes as if I’m going out on a date. Similarly, I can never let myself be shabbily dressed. I’m traveling so I should be fresh and excited inside-out. Here are some fashion dos and don’ts that you should keep in mind before going on a plane.
juicy couture
Layers
Tight Clothing Avoid tight clothes of any kind, even jeggings, muscle shirts or extra-skinny jeans. Wear clothes that are reasonably loose and give you plenty of room to breathe and move around. Tight clothes can restrict blood flow in the already-confining space of an airplane seat. Ditch the jeggings and don loose-fitting natural fiber garments (clothes made from cotton or linen are a great choice) to give your skin some breathing room. Wear loose garments like sweatpants, track pants or comfortable jeans.
Air travel is often an assemblage of various disparate micro-climates, from the sweatinducing sunny tarmac to the arctic airconditioned cabin during flight. So, fight discomfort with plenty of layers. Pashminas, shawls, wraps, cardigans, sweatshirts, vests, and light jackets are perfect. BAJRA SHAWLS

Comfortable Shoes
Brian Lichtenberg
It’s best to wear extremely comfortable, mostly flat shoes on the plane. Wear flat-soled, well-fitting, comfortable shoes that are easy to walk in. You’ll also want to select shoes that are easy to slip on and off when passing through airport security.
Wrinkle-Free Fabrics Stick to wrinkle-free fabrics that won’t look like you’ve slept in them after you debark. Denim, linen, plain cotton and microfibers are best for avoiding wrinkles. If you’re wearing business attire, fold your jacket over the seat and wear a wrinkle-resistant dress shirt or blouse.
Tory Burch nike
Shorts
Ralph Lauren
Tory Burch
No matter how warm it is in your departure city or your destination, it’s cold on planes, even in the summer. Wear shorts, and you’re sure to regret it.
topshop
Accessories and Makeup
nike
Keep jewelry to a minimum on flights. Jewelry can slow security checks and irritate you when you’re trying to sleep during the flight. Don’t wear too much makeup, as it will most likely either start to irritate you (especially eye makeup) or get runny after hours on a plane.
Heavy Perfume or Cologne Refrain from using too many scented products before going on the plane. You don’t want the smell to bother those around you in an enclosed space. converse

Disguise the Problem Areas That are standing on your way to being fashionable!
Most of the time, women know whether they’re a pear shape, an apple shape, or an hourglass, and they know how to choose the hemline on their skirts to flatter their legs, but when it comes to lingerie, many women feel lost. Should they wear underwire? Will a full bikini or a thong make them look sexier? We will provide tips for hiding bulges, flattering figures, and choosing the lingerie that will make everybody look (and feel) its best! Golden Rule: No matter what shape or size a woman’s body, dark colors discourage focus on whatever area they cover. Therefore, the Golden Rule for Flattering Every Figure is always to choose one area of the body to highlight, and draw attention there with bright colors or patterns and accessories.
1. Heavy Arms or Broad Shoulders: Spaghetti straps emphasize heavy arms and broad shoulders, so women who want to disguise this area should wear lingerie with cap sleeves or wide straps instead. Many gowns and chemises come with wide straps or sleeves, so coverage is available in both long and short styles. 2. Undefined Waist: Women who feel like they have no waist should try wearing 2-piece outfits to break up their body. Camisole and tap pants sets are perfect for this; they provide separation between the bust and the hips, creating the illusion of an hourglass figure, even for women who are not naturally curvy. 3. Belly Bulges: It’s important for women to remember that lingerie doesn’t have to be sheer. Women who are self-conscious about their tummies should try wearing silky polyester, which smoothes out the body’s lines while providing stomach coverage. Since lingerie is about showing off skin, this also brings attention to the cleavage, shoulders, and legs, which results in less focus on the middle. 4. Heavy Bottom: Trying to disguise a derriere? Bustiers and baby dolls often come with a bikini panty, which will provide great coverage. Women with heavy bottoms should avoid thong or g-string panties, as these accentuate the bottom. Tap pants and boy shorts, which have wider legs and provide the most coverage, will also minimize the backside. 5. Thunder Thighs: The key to hiding thunder thighs is to wear lingerie with a wide skirt. Instead of close-fitting gowns, or bustiers, which can accent the thighs, babydolls with a lot of flounce wide ruffles or pleats, will cascade over the legs and minimize thighs. The secret is that the added width appears to come from the skirt, and not from the thighs! 6. Short or Chubby Legs: Lengthen and slim legs by wearing black pantyhose and a bedroom slipper with a small heel. Try to avoid pantyhose in bright colors, as this will add focus to the legs. Also, women with short or chubby legs should wear shorter lingerie, like bustiers and teddies with high cut legs; the more leg that is shown, the longer the legs will appear.

How can I have bright radiant skin rather than dull skin with an unhealthy appearance? The golden rule to glowing skin is the more colourful your diet, the better, so pack it with lots of juicy and vibrant fruits and vegetables whenever you can. Go for berries on your breakfast, spinach in your salads and beetroot to boost your skin’s brightness. Vitamin C is very important too; it’s a powerpacked antioxidant that fights off the signs of aging and is also a known skin brightening agent. Gently polish away dead skin cells everyday with a daily exfoliating wash. Use: Johnson’s Face Care Gentle Exfoliating Wash, Lancôme Exfoliance Clarté Clarifying Exfoliating Gel, Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, M·A·C Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator, or Yves Saint Laurent Top Secrets Natural Action Exfoliator. Use a daily moisturizer with SPF in the morning and a night time moisturizer before bed. Use: Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Cream SPF 15, Clarins HydraQuench Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 15, Estée Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Oil-Free Creme SPF 25, Shiseido Benefiance NutriPerfect Night Cream, Bobbi Brown Hydrating Intense Night Cream, or Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital Night Cream.Any exercise is great for your skin; the boost to your blood flow alone can give it a healthy and dewy look. Keep your skin cool, clear and bright by drinking lots of water during the day. It’s not always easy when you’re on the go so try keeping a bottle of fresh clear water close to hand or in your bag to sip at frequently. Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for having fresh skin. Don’t let stress beat your skin as stress makes your skin flat and dull, and can even lead to breakouts or dry skin patches. A weekly brightening face mask might also help. Use: Shiseido White Lucent Power Brightening Mask, or Estee Lauder Cyber White Ex Extra Brightening Radiance Recovery Mask.

Say Hello To Skin Dream BB Cream From Oriflame! YOUR DREAMS – OUR INSPIRATION
in
TM
Lately, everyone’s been talking about BB creams. Beauty magazines and blogs alike say they’re the must-have beauty product for every woman. But what are they? And what’s so good about them?
What is a BB Cream? The perfect combination of skincare and cosmetics, BB creams (also known as Beauty or Blemish Balms) are the next generation in beauty products. Not only do they hydrate skin, they also conceal imperfections, illuminate skin and protect it from harsh UV rays without clogging pores. The BB cream craze started in Asia and the creams were the favourites of makeup artists, celebrities and beauty bloggers who all rave about its multifunctional benefits. BB creams Why should I choose Oriflame Skin Dream BB Cream? Skin Dream BB Cream is the perfect all-in-one solution. It’s like having five beauty products in one: • All-day hydration* • SPF 30* • Covers imperfections and blemishes • Creates an instant glow • Oil-free So Skin Dream BB Cream can help even out your skin tone, provide a good base, cover imperfections and redness, hydrate your skin and brighten a dull complexion. No need to take several products with you when one does the job. Plus, it’s oil-free formula means you won’t have to worry about clogged pores. How do I use it? Skin Dream BB Cream is easy to use. If you have normal/combination skin, the beauty of it is that you can apply it as you would your normal moisturiser for a natural-looking finish and healthy glow. However, if your skin is dry, you may want to apply your normal moisturizer first and then apply the BB cream as your finishing touch. What’s the difference between Skin Dream BB Cream SPF 30 and a tinted moisturiser or a foundation? Skin Dream BB Cream SPF 30 has great SPF protection, and gives superb coverage so you can moisturise, protect, hide blemishes and even your skin tone in one go! With a standard foundation you may only get coverage. With this product you get clinically proven all-day hydration, the coverage you expect from a foundation and a product that doesn’t block pores. Now you can get the finish of a makeup product with the benefits of a skincare product! /Oriflame.Egypt

Pack Your Travel Makeup Kit Like a Pro! Makeup to Fit Your Personal Travel Style!
BY: Jolanda Bakker Makeup Artist
Do you want advice from a professional makeup artist? Are you stumped for what beauty items to bring on your travels? Here’s the best of both. As a professional makeup artist who lives to experience newness and adventure, I’ve culled my travel makeup kit to the bare minimum. I love makeup (of course), but I’m not a slave to it. I usually travel solo, which means I’m responsible for getting my bag into the overhead compartment, or onto the train, or the bus. Anything which isn’t essential doesn’t make it into my bag. To be honest, I do make a few exceptions, as long as they weigh less than three ounces. I’ve put together a list of products that would go into two separate make up bags. One is very, very basic for the Minimalista. The other is for those of us who like the option of looking and feeling just a bit more glam. Personally, when I travel and I know I’m going to be meeting new people daily, I like to put my best face forward. This is strictly a personal preference, and all very subjective. Take what you like, and leave the rest. My rule of thumb: I tailor my makeup routine toward my activities for the day. On travel days, museum days, shopping days, or out to dinner, I usually get a little more dolled up than for a day of touring ruins, monuments, or hiking.
Travel Makeup Kit #1 For tour days I recommend what I call the ultra minimalist kit. It should contain: • A sunscreen or tinted moisturizer with sunscreen • Concealer • Lip gloss with SPF • Eyebrow kit (personal note: I don’t leave without coloring in my eyebrows). You might not need this. If you want to take it a step further add: Mascara, powder or blotting papers if your skin is oily, and blush (creme blush sticks can double as lip color and save you a little space in your bag).
32 |
| August 2013
Travel Makeup Kit #2 The second makeup kit is basic. These are the products I would use when I want to polish my look more. I’d add these beauty products to my routine when I am going out to dinner, a shopping day, or a museum day. This kit should contain all of the above products plus: • Eye liner pencil – black, charcoal, or brown • Cheek color – a two in one product (like a NARS Multiples) does double time as cheek and lip color • BB cream • Lip pencil • Burt’s Bees lip balm tinted • Eye shadow – 2 colors You can choose to use all (or some) of these or not, but it’s nice to have them just in case. I love taking the time to put on makeup when I’m not under pressure to be at work or anywhere else. I feel more creative and playful when I’m traveling – and sometimes that transfers to how I apply my travel makeup. It can be a creative process. It’s also fun to experiment with new looks, and new products and techniques, when you have time and space to play – and when you want to look your best!
Next trip, try adding one or two new things to your routine. It just might make your day. August 2013 |

Faces of Egypt
The Team Behind anntiqa.com
Farah Tawakol, Karim Sadek & Youssef Abdel Wahab
Victory comes to those who dare to begin.
How many brands do you have on anntiqa.com?
What are your goals for anntiqa.com and your motivation? Our main goal is to reinvent online shopping in Egypt and the Middle East, making it more fun and surprising.
“ With anntiqa you are trendy every day!
Farah
will raise “ We the bar for online shopping in Egypt.
Youssef 36 |
| August 2013
“
What obstacles did you face when you started to implement your idea? Ambiguity; it’s the biggest obstacle for entrepreneurs. We handled it with a bit of flair and creativity, creating new ways to tackle the situation.
Karim
As for now anntiqa has almost 20 brands to start with and growing. All of them are local talented designers. Don’t you think that most people in Egypt are still not used to the idea of online shopping and that they prefer to see first what they are buying? On the contrary, the trend is growing rapidly. The recent launch of PayPal in Egypt proves that online shoppers are growing. anntiqa is not just an online store, it is part store, blog, magazine and wish list. It’s a place to discover great stuff, to create a collection of things you love, to get updates on your favorite brands and stores and to share your discoveries.
“
How did you get the idea of Anntiqa? Online shopping is boring these days; it’s never like going to a mall, discovering new stuff and ending up buying other things you didn’t intend to buy in the first place. Online shopping lacks fun and the element of surprise and that’s how we thought about anntiqa. There are too many hidden talents in Egypt, with no enough resources, anntiqa gives every creative person the chance to be seen and shine.

Give your Bedroom
A Hotel Inspired Look
W
hen designing a guest room, hotels develop a color palette and scheme that fits with the hotel’s theme or location (such as the desert or beach). Similarly, you will want to develop a plan for your private sanctuary that speaks to your inner self. The bedroom is typically a refuge or “decompression point” in the home. And unlike a hotel room that must please many people, your bedroom is the one place that is truly yours and can be a reflection of your taste and design style. Have some fun and play with paint chips and patterns to come up with a scheme and color decision. Then follow these tips to make the space as luxurious and multi-functional as a first-class hotel room:
40 |

• Create a non-gender-specific bedroom and keep things simple, with clean design lines and an uncluttered feel. • High, upholstered headboards are a must-have, replacing the traditional wooden bed frames. • Ensure your bedroom is self-contained and luxurious. Include the likes of a coffee station, mini bar, pop-up television cabinets at the end of the bed and a good quality audio system. • Add a living space with separate seating, if the space allows for it. Fireplaces and blackout shades are another great addition. • Matching bedside tables, that are able to store everything at arm’s length when you are sitting up in bed, are essential. Complete the look with bedside lamps that can be dimmed if necessary. • Traditional bedspreads are out in favour of the turned-down look. Place more emphasis on sheets and sleeping pillows that are now stacked. Extralong pillows that span the width of the bed are especially in favour. • Add fabric walls with padded upholstered wall panels or on the headboard. >>

• In a hotel room, small space is turned into a flexible haven for the guest for multiple activities. Do the same with your bedroom. You can create areas for sleeping (the bed), reading (seats), F&B (a coffee niche or mini refrigerator), working (desk) and grooming (the bath and closet). You can design this environment with any size room. First step is to decide which activities you want to perform (aside from sleeping!) and plan space accordingly.

Dr. Joseph T. Newman Podiatric Medicine
Q1: My heel, bottom of my foot and ankle throb hurt bad after I’ve been sitting down for a while or when I get up in the morning; what could be the reason for that? Doctor’s answer: Plantar fasciitis or an arch ligament strain is a very common reason for arch and heel pain. There can sometimes be a bursitis under the heel as well. Other causes of heel pain can be tarsal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, a stress fracture, referred nerve pain among others. Talk to a podiatrist to help sort this out.
Dr. Alan H. Ali Psychiatry
Q2: What is borderline personality disorder? Doctor’s answer: Those who have borderline personality disorder are sensitive to criticism, quick to react, their moods fluctuate, they do things before thinking about consequences, they have hard time finding stability in relationships, and they have low self-esteem and poor self-image. If they are not in treatment, they might inflict self injuries to get relief of tension.
Dr. Mark Diamond Pediatrics
Q3: How do I treat shyness in my child without medicine? Doctor’s answer: Medicine is not the answer. The best approach is exposure to other children through play dates, programs, school, etc. Therapy is necessary only for severely disabled older kids. First start with one or two kids and then increase the exposure.

Travelers’ Diarrhea!
T
ravelers’ diarrhea (TD) is the most common illness affecting travelers. Each year between 20%-50% of international travelers, an estimated 10 million persons, develop diarrhea. The onset of TD usually occurs within the first week of travel but may occur at any time while traveling, and even after returning home. The most important determinant of risk is the traveler’s destination. High-risk destinations are the developing countries of Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Attack rates are similar for men and women. The primary source of infection is ingestion of contaminated food or water. What are common symptoms of travelers’ diarrhea? Most TD cases begin abruptly. The illness usually results in increased frequency, volume, and weight of stool. Altered stool consistency also is common. Typically, a traveler experiences four to five loose or watery bowel movements each day. Other commonly associated symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, bloating, fever, urgency, and malaise. Most cases are benign and resolve in 1-2 days without treatment. TD is rarely life-threatening. The natural history of TD is that 90% of cases resolve within 1 week, and 98% resolve within 1 month.
What causes travelers’ diarrhea? Infectious agents are the primary cause of TD. Bacterial enteropathogens cause approximately 80% of TD cases. The most common causative agent isolated in countries surveyed has been enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). ETEC produce watery diarrhea with associated cramps and low-grade or no fever. Besides ETEC and other bacterial pathogens, a variety of viral and parasitic enteric pathogens also are potential causative agents.
What preventive measures are effective for travelers’ diarrhea? Travelers can minimize their risk for TD by practicing the following effective preventive measures: • Avoid eating foods or drinking beverages purchased from street vendors or other establishments where un hygienic conditions are present. • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat and seafood. • Avoid eating raw fruits (e.g. oranges, bananas, avocados) and vegetables unless the traveler ...peels them. If handled properly, well-cooked and packaged foods usually are safe. Tap water, ice, unpasteurized milk, and dairy products are associated with increased risk for TD. Safe beverages include bottled carbonated beverages, hot tea or coffee, beer, wine, and water boiled or appropriately treated with iodine or chlorine.

| August 2013
What treatment measures are effective for travelers’ diarrhea? TD usually is a self-limited disorder and often resolves without specific treatment; however, oral rehydration is often beneficial to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Clear liquids are routinely recommended for adults. Travelers who develop three or more loose stools in an 8-hour period -especially if associated with nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever, or blood in stools- may benefit from antimicrobial therapy. Antibiotics usually are given for 3-5 days. If diarrhea persists despite therapy, travelers should be evaluated by a doctor and treated for possible parasitic infection. What NOT to eat and drink abroad: 1. Cold meat platters, cheese, buffet foods and unsealed mayonnaise are often home to rampant bacteria. 2. Seafood dishes are notorious for causing intestinal problems, as fish accumulate contaminants from a wide variety of sources. Smaller fish tend to be safer. Fish organs and shellfish (such as clams, mussels and oysters) are usually best avoided. 3. Nuts and other shelled foods are a good choice. 4. Coffee and tea are generally harmless, but it’s best to take your hot drinks black, without potentially contaminated milk. Cream from sealed containers, if pasteurized, is usually safe. 5. Freshly cooked foods are less likely to acquire airborne contaminants, and raw foods such as salads, and fruits and vegetables without peels, are often likely culprits for trouble. Fruits and vegetables you can peel yourself are usually safe. 6. such as mayonnaise, ketchup and salad dressings are safest in sealed packages.

Motion Sickness Problems Solved! You Don’t Know Why you Feel Sick When you are in a Car, Plane or Ship? Check This Out!
Do you always feel sick while being in a car, bus, plane or ship? Were you pissed off when you went to the amusement park with your friends but were unable to go on all the rides because you knew they would make you very dizzy? Are you a person who prefers to be the driver of the car? If you try to read something or send text messages from your mobile while in a car or sometimes even a plane, do you get the feeling that you are about to throw up? Well, if this is the case, then you suffer from what’s called motion sickness but don’t worry; it’s nothing serious and there are millions like you out there.
What is motion sickness? Motion sickness is the unpleasant sensation of nausea and dizziness that some people experience when riding in a moving vehicle. Motion sickness can occur in a car, airplane, ship or boat, train or amusement park rides. It is also known as travel sickness and can be referred to as airsickness, carsickness or seasickness depending on the mode of transport.
What causes motion sickness? Motion sickness is thought to occur when there is a conflict between what your eyes see and what your inner ears -which help with balance- sense. Your brain receives a jumble of contrasting information, which is thought to bring on the symptoms of motion sickness. Motion is sensed by the brain through three different pathways of the nervous system that send signals coming from the inner ear (sensing motion, acceleration, and gravity), the eyes (vision), and the deeper tissues of the body surface. When the body
is moved intentionally, for example, when we walk, the input from all three pathways is coordinated by our brain. When there is unintentional movement of the body, as occurs when we are in a car, the brain is not coordinating the input and there is thought to be conflict among the input from the three pathways. That conflict among the inputs is what’s responsible for motion sickness. To put it more simply, motion sickness happens when the inner ear, the eyes, and the muscles and joints send conflicting signals to the brain. For example, if you are on a plane and there’s air turbulence, your eyes do not detect all this motion because all you see is the inside of the airplane. Consequently, your brain receives messages that do not coordinate with each other and you might become air sick. Another example is if you are sitting in the back seat of a moving car reading a book. Your inner ear detects the motion of the car, but your eyes see only the pages of the book so you could become car sick. Same applies if you are on a ship; the eye sees the unmoving interior of the ship while the inner ear feels the rolling of the waves.
Symptoms: Symptoms of motion sickness can range from mild to serious. Most common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Other signs are sweating, a general feeling of discomfort and not feeling well, fatigue and pale skin. Motion sickness usually stops as soon as the motion stops but there are some people who suffer symptoms for even a few days after the trip is over.
• Children under 2 are highly resistant to motion sickness whereas children aged 2-12 are prone to it. After this age, most teenagers grow out of motion sickness. 54 |
| August 2013
3 out of 10 people may suffer from motion sickness regularly.
How to prevent or minimize motion sickness? • Where you sit can make a difference. In a car, sit by the window or in the front seat. In a bus, choose a sit in the front. On a ship, try to be in the central cabin. On a plane, choose a seat by the window or over the wings where the motion is minimized. Never sit in a seat facing backward. • Try to be the one driving the car as passengers in moving cars are more likely to experience motion sickness than drivers. • Make sure you have plenty of fresh air. Fumes or smoke can exacerbate symptoms. Turn the air vents toward your face and don’t smoke. • Don’t read or look at something in the vehicle. Look out into the distance and keep your eyes on the horizon. • Avoid strong odors and spicy or greasy foods that do not agree with you (immediately before and during your travel). Eat light meals or snacks that are low in calories in the 24 hours before air travel and avoid salty foods and dairy products. • Rest your head against the seat back to keep it still. Close your eyes if you feel it makes you more comfortable. • On brief journeys, try not to eat or drink anything. On long journeys, eat and drink sparingly and often.
Treatment:
Motion sickness medication is preventive and not curative. Antihistamines are the most commonly used and available medications. Sedation is the primary side effect of all the efficacious drugs. Motion sickness pills are only effective if they are taken before you feel sick. They should be taken 1-2 hours before travel. In many cases, motion sickness pills can induce drowsiness as a side effect. If you suffer from motion sickness, ask your doctor or a pharmacist to know which type of medicine works best for you. You can also try to chew on raw ginger or make a quick tea by adding minced ginger to boiling water as research suggests that ginger can help to ease the symptoms of motion sickness. August 2013 |

Come Home Fitter,
Not Fatter!
M
any of us fear that 10 days on holiday may ruin 10 months of hard work. Indeed, gym rats may not have access to their equipment abroad, those who run around their neighborhoods may not be familiar with the paths in their new environments and those who are used to controlling their food intake may not be able to pack their blenders in their suitcases (this is my personal tragedy… yes, I need my blender). Yes, Theodore Roosevelt said it right: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” This applies to the gym as well. Indeed, your workout routine will change when travelling abroad, but it need not suffer! And here is how… First, stop freaking out. Holiday and travel must remain fun. Be careful but you don’t need to be controlling. Let yourself be tempted by new dishes, exotic cocktails, local pastries… but take bite sizes, share with your family and friends, and order small plates. Common sense helps a lot, here.
Natascia Paolucci
Professional Fitness Coach
Second, plan ahead. Give yourself a feasible goal and the keys to keep up. I would not recommend you set a weight loss target, for it may limit your holiday opportunities and it would be a shame to miss out on new experiences. Similarly, sticking to a weight may be stressful. You don’t want to keep your eyes on the scale but on the view. Alternatively, it is very interesting to allow a range of action. For instance, you could allow yourself a maximum of 2 kilos, or 3 cm waist diameter. The easiest is to keep on hand a pair of tight jeans that you should still be able to put on at the end of your trip.
Third, commit to a program. Exercising is a must and you should try to work out wherever you go. I suggest you find one hour every other day to engage in a strenuous activity. Notice I did not say gym or jogging. Indeed, new environments allow for new experiences. Try. Be creative! Learn wind-surfing, canyoning or horse riding… whatever the region you are in offers. If you really need to run, use Google earth or phone applications that suggest routes around you. My daughter’s favorite is “map-my-run.” Not only does it suggest paths, but it also tracks your performance. This engaging, accurate and user-friendly app is a great motivational tool! Also, adopt an active lifestyle all day long. If it were to stay on your couch, you could have stayed home. Walk to places you need to go. There is a grocery store at the corner? Go to the one that is on the other side of town. This will extend your walk and allow you to visit the place. Don’t think that you need weights or tracks to work out the way you do at the gym. Use what you have. You paid luggage overload? Use it as a free weight! Also, use water bottles. Conveniently, 1 liter water weighs 1 kilogram. Remember also the basics of a chair workout. Run up stairs. Use children swings or door frames for pull-ups. Choose body-resistance training, using your own body weight (squats, lunges, push-ups, etc…) Fourth, avoid difficult situations. I did not say refuse parties and dinners with friends. On the contrary, meet as many people as you can. However, make sure you tell people around you. Having allies is a valuable help. They will probably appreciate finding a fitness buddy too! Dance further away from the buffet. Drink plenty of water not to feel false hunger (when your body signals hunger in order to absorb the water contained naturally in food). Load on vegetables and leave only a quarter of the plate for either meat or fish or carbs. Summer is amazing for salad choice, by the way. Last but not least: have fun! Try a thousand things. Make memories and make even more friends. Come back with great stories to share… at the gym, in your class, on your familiar running track.

Understanding Your
Metabolism What is Anabolism and Catabolism
T
o understand what is anabolism and catabolism, first we have to understand our metabolism! Metabolism refers to biochemical processes that occur with any living organism to maintain life. These biochemical processes allow us to grow, reproduce, repair damage, and respond to our environment. Most people use the term “metabolism incorrectly for either anabolism or catabolism. According to Medilexicon’s medical dictionary, metabolism means: The sum of the chemical and physical changes occurring in tissue, consisting of anabolism (those reactions that convert small molecules into large), and catabolism (those reactions that convert large molecules into small. Often incorrectly used as a synonym for either anabolism or catabolism. 60 |
| August 2013
Anabolism: Builds things and consumes energy making bigger things out of smaller things and using up energy in the process. Anabolism, or biosynthesis, allows the body to grow new cells and maintain all the tissues. The body uses simple molecules to create complex ones. In the same way a builder will use simple building blocks, such as bricks, to create a house. Anabolic reactions in our bodies utilize a few simple chemicals and molecules to manufacture (synthesize) a vast array of finished products. The growth and mineralization of bone and increases in muscle mass are examples of anabolism. Catabolism: Breaks things down and gives out energy. Using bigger things to make smaller things and releasing energy in the process. Catabolism provides the energy our bodies need for physical activity, from a cellular level right up to whole body movements. Atabolism creates the energy that anabolism consumes for synthesizing hormones, enzymes, sugars and other substances for cell growth, reproduction, and tissue repair. If catabolism is producing more energy than anabolism requires there will be excess energy. The human body stores this excess energy in fat or glycogen. Fat tissue is relatively inactive compared to muscle or organ tissue and other systems in our body. Fat cells, because of their relative inactivity, do not use much energy to maintain themselves, compared to or types of cells. Being in a catabolic state for a prolonged period of time can result in major muscle loss and overall decrease in health. So, how to prevent catabolism and how to maintain anabolism? If you stop working out your muscles will fall
wvictim to catabolism. Without proper fuel for muscles you will begin to lose mass. Overtraining is highly catabolic. Be sure to recover properly.
Fight Back To Build Mass Catabolism is a bodybuilder’s worst nightmare. Negligence of adequate training, nutrition, and recovery can lead to it. Being in a catabolic state for a prolonged period of time can result in major muscle loss and overall decrease in health. All those years of hard training can be sent right down the drain.
Training: It is absolutely imperative to maintain a weekly workout regimen to prevent muscle loss and maintain anabolism. If you don’t have much time to train, decrease the length of your workouts and perform more compound exercises to train several muscle groups simultaneously. The last thing you want to see is degradation of all your hard earned muscle Nutrition: Eating the right kinds of food and enough of them is also vital for catabolism prevention and maintenance of anabolism. Eating 5-8 meals a day, with each meal separated in 3-4 hour increments, will assure that your muscle are continually receiving the essential nutrients for growth. Recovery: Without sufficient recovery, catabolism will always reign supreme. Similarly to inconsistent training, overtraining is highly catabolic. Muscles grow and repair during the recovery phase, so don’t overlook it. You should get 6-8 hours of sleep each night and should take 2-3 days off from the gym each week to ensure you fully recover. Also, every 8-12 weeks, you should take a complete week off from the gym to further recover and give your muscles a much needed rest. >>

If You Are Seeking Building Muscles; Then Take This Note! A catabolic state is a condition that is mainly caused by excessive training coupled with a lack of adequate nutrition, especially protein. It results in numerous undesirable side effects in the body, such as extreme fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and sleeplessness. A catabolic state is closely related to the catabolic hormone called cortisol. The more intense the workout, the more cortisol is secreted by the adrenal glands to make up for the loss of muscle tissue. Many people think that their few hours of working out have helped them build muscles, but in actuality, their lost energy is compensated by cortisol. This is the reason why protein and carbohydrate intake play a significant role in building muscle. Intense training requires a lot of proteins and carbohydrates. This is because a lot of muscle tissues are lost during a strenuous workout. To prevent ending up in a catabolic state, you need to ensure that the protein and energy needs of the body are met before and after you exercise. It is important to understand that your muscles do not grow when you are working out. They grow only when the body is given the opportunity to rest and recuperate. Therefore, excessive working out and lack of a proper diet will make your training futile. Some simple measures can be taken to avoid a catabolic state. A protein drink can be beneficial after a round of rigorous training. Intake of carbohydrates and proteins about one or two hours before and after a workout will work wonders for your body, and keep you from feeling lethargic. Nowadays, there are a number of protein drinks that have been proven to be effective in helping people avoid a catabolic state. Vitamin C is vital for strengthening your immune system, and it contributes significantly to the maintenance of an anabolic state. Therefore, consuming foods or beverages that contain vitamin C (such as orange juice) before training can help stave off a catabolic state. If you want to focus on losing fat, doing cardio AFTER strength training is not a bad idea. It does seem to increase the amount of fat burned during the workout itself, but just slightly. The most important thing is just to make sure you do cardio, regardless of when. The strength training, when done correctly, will help preserve existing muscle mass. Maintaining an overall calorie deficit forces your body to use your body fat to replace the energy used up by both forms of exercise. Higher intensity and longer duration workouts (cardio and strength) will use more energy. Note: Neither form of exercise actually burns much fat during the exercise itself; it’s the total amount of energy expended that determines how much fat you will burn. Limit your high-intensity cardio to no more than 45-60 minutes per day. More than that can increase the rate of muscle loss. Adding extra low intensity activity like walking is usually okay. There are limits on the amount of exercise you want to do. Too much may cause excessive stress and strain, and too large of a caloric deficit interferes with normal metabolic functioning and will accelerate muscle loss and decrease fat loss 62 |

Can you Lose Fat & Build Muscles at the SameTime? It’s every woman’s and man’s dream! It seems like many everyone believes it’s possible to build 15kilos of muscle and lose 15kilos of fat in a few months if you eat right and have a great training program. But is that really possible, or is this wishful thinking? First, let’s answer the question if it’s possible to lose fat and build muscle at the same time. The short answer is that it depends on what you mean by the “same time”. Could be yes, could be no. No, physiologically speaking, it’s not possible to lose fat and build muscle at the same exact moment in time because one process is catabolic (losing fat) and the other is anabolic (building muscle). Yes, it is possible, however, to gain muscle and lose fat over let’s say the course of two months, or even over the course of a day you may be able to lose fat and build muscle, but on a very small scale.
Is it worth attempting to lose fat and build muscle at the same time? I think the answer is a resounding: No! There is not one top fitness model, or natural bodybuilder who tries to lose fat and build muscle at the same time. For people whose livelihood depends on their ability to transform their bodies, they focus on a muscle building phase of 6-9 months, then fat loss phase of 2-3 months. That should tell you everything you need to know right there. Losing fat and building muscle at the same time sounds extremely desirable, but it’s NOT an intelligent approach to maximize your results despite all the marketing you see that tells you otherwise. Building muscle is anabolic, which requires you create a calorie surplus, while losing fat is catabolic and requires that you create a calorie deficit. Why attempt to do both at the same time for only mediocre results at best?
How to lose fat and build muscle at the same time? The short answer is “nutrient timing” can help you lose fat and build muscle over the course of a few months, but it is STRONGLY recommend having the primary goal of either losing fat, or building muscle NOT both equally. Also, to emphasize that pursuing a fat loss phase, or a muscle building phase is far superior to maximize your results. Nutrient timing is determined by (1) when you eat, (2) how much you eat, and (3) what you eat that together affect how your body responds. There are different schools of thought regarding nutrient timing and some nutrient timing plans can get so tedious and complicated that you would have to quit your day job to follow them.
If you do try to lose fat and build muscle, which one should you emphasize? If you have more than 15% body fat (25% body fat for woman), it is STRONGLY recommend focusing on fat loss, with potentially some muscle gain if you’re lucky. One very easy to implement nutrient timing strategy for primarily fat loss is to reduce calorie intake for most of the week. Around your strength training workouts you can eat a high protein/moderate carb snack (let’s say 30g of protein, 30g of carbs) both 30 minutes before and after your workout to maximize the anabolic window when your muscles are most sensitive to sucking in protein. Generally, it is not recommend this strategy for people looking to lose fat without losing muscle because it can slow down progress, but sometimes it works well. In terms of your workout routine, workouts don’t need to be that much different between going for muscle building and fat loss. In fact, many people have lost fat and gained muscle using the 8-week Built Lean Program (check it online). Regardless of whether your primary goal is losing fat, or building muscle, lift weights that are heavy for you to handle. The light weight, high rep strategy is just not as effective. Why Eat This? Mango… “The King of Fruits”
• Antioxidant compounds in mango fruit have been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. • The high levels of fiber, pectin and vitamin C in mango help to lower serum cholesterol levels, specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein. • Eating mangoes regularly keeps your skin soft and shining and also provides a fair complexion. Also, they are effective to relieve clogged pores of the skin that causes acne. When one applies mango pulp on their skin for about 10 minutes (before washing it off), it will ease the clogged pores of their skin. Utilize warm water for cleaning your face. • 1 cup of sliced mangoes supplies 25% of the needed daily value of vitamin A, which promotes good eyesight and prevents night blindness and dry eyes. • Mangos are a great source of vitamin E. Even though the popular connection between sex
drive and vitamin E was originally created by a mistaken generalization on rat studies, further research has shown balanced proper amounts (as from whole food) does help in this area. • The fiber in mangos also helps digestion and elimination. • Juicing the fruit from green mango and mixing with water and a sweetener helps to cool down the body and prevent harm to the body. The reason people often get diuretic and exhausted when visiting equatorial climates is because the strong “sun energy” is burning up your body, particularly the muscles. The kidneys then become overloaded with the toxins from this process. • The generous amounts of vitamin C and vitamin A in mangos, plus 25 different kinds of carotenoids keep your immune system healthy and strong.

Your Guide To Eating Well While Eating Out !
I
f you’re eating out at a restaurant or cafe, you can make choices to ensure that your meal is healthy and balanced. It’s all too easy to have more saturated fat, salt and sugar than you realize when you’re not cooking your own meal. You can also end up eating more than you would have done if you’d served up your own portions. Many of us are eating out more often, and this means that it’s important to think about healthier choices. Here are some simple steps that can help you make sure that you make healthier choices when eating out.
Eating Out Tips • When you’re ordering a variety of dishes to share, make sure you don’t order too many. Ask the staff how many dishes they would recommend. • Ask how food is prepared. If the menu doesn’t specify how something is cooked, there is nothing wrong with asking! You might think you’re ordering a healthy chicken and vegetable dish, but then it comes out swimming in oil. You can usually ask that your food be cooked with less or no butter or oil. • Avoid items on the menu that say fried (crunchy or crispy), au gratin, braised, buttered, creamed or escalloped. Anything “smoldered in cheese” is also usually a red flag. Look for baked, broiled, grilled, poached, roasted, or steamed instead! • Order from the “light” menu. Many restaurants now offer a healthy, lower calorie menu that still offers plenty of delicious options. This makes it a whole lot easier to pick something healthy. • Ask for salt not to be added to your meal during cooking or preparation.
• Say no to bread or other nibbles before your meal arrives. Eating these before your meal can make you more likely to eat too much. • Substitute sides or toppings. Ask for vegetables, a baked potato or side salad instead of french fries, or a low-carb lettuce wrap in exchange for a sandwich bun or bread. • Share an entree. Portion sizes are much bigger than they should be in restaurants, so why not share an entree? Order a starter salad (with the dressing on the side!) for each person and then ask to share the entree plate. Most restaurants will be nice and actually bring out the dinner on two separate plates. If no one wants to share, or you want to have something to bring home with you, ask for a to-go box when your meal comes. • Wait until you’ve eaten your main course before you order dessert. When you’ve finished the main course, you may be full. • Have a glass of fruit juice, unsweetened iced tea or water with your meal. Avoid soda and cocktails.
Remember, eating out is supposed to be fun! Don’t stress out too much about every little thing you eat, or every time you go out to eat. It’s okay to treat yourself once in a while! August 2013 |

Long Distance Relationships
DOOMED
W
e can safely say that most long distance relationships do NOT work and this can be traced back to many reasons. However, the mere absence of the most essential ingredient in any successful relationship; that is: BEING TOGETHER, is detrimental. Being together through phone calls, text messages, videa calls and emails can never be enough. “Together should be both emotionally and physically.
72 |
| August 2013
If you wonder why long distance relationships eventually end with a break-up, read this: It’s hard to trust someone you hardly see in person. You›re putting a lot of faith in someone far far away, who you often have no reliable means of checking up on (internet video chats don›t count). Building trust is a key component in any relationship, and building that trust requires face time. It›s being able to look into that person›s face and see his commitment to you. When it comes to trust, talk is cheap. Anybody can say they›re trustworthy. Anyone can say they love you. But you need to see it to believe it. Real genuine trust is shown in a person›s actions, not just words. In long distance relationships, you see each other so infrequently that it›s tough to build up that trust.
These relationships go on way longer than they should. In normal relationships, when things start getting really bad, a break up usually happens shortly after. But the reason why long distance relationships almost always go on longer than they should is because of the distance. If you see someone every day and fight with them every day, you›ll only be able to take so much before you snap and break up. If you see someone once a month and fight with them once a month, there›s way more time in between for you both to cool down, forget why you were fighting, and think your relationship is still working well. And with the distance being so hard, it›s easy to blame every fight you have (even the long phone ones) on the fact that you›re so far away and missing each other. The fighting could mean that you›re incompatible, but it takes way longer to figure that out when you have the easy scapegoat of distance to blame instead.
Distance Just the physical distance between the two halves of a couple can easily spell doom to the relationship. Since a physical distance exists between the two people, it is extremely easy to fall for someone who is simply closer, more accessible, more real. This isn›t to say that people may cheat on their partners in a long distance relationship, but there are simply too many opportunities where either partner will end up seeking emotional comfort in someone closer to home.
Different expectations What we -and our partners- expect out of a long distance relationship goes a long way in determining our happiness and the success of those relationships. Long distance relationship can mean different things to different people. It may mean «heart-wrenching tragedy» to one person, while for the other partner it means «year-long vacation.» If a couple doesn›t share the same expectations before the separation occurs, it can spell doom for a long distance relationship. For one half of the couple, it may be viewed as a test of the relationship›s strength, with an eye toward reuniting as soon as possible. The other, however, may view the separation as a fresh taste of life all on one›s own. A boyfriend or girlfriend who wants to talk 10 times a day isn›t going to appreciate a partner who thinks it›s ideal to check in every few days. Even over a scratchy phone connection, it won›t take long for someone to realize that his or her significant other doesn›t share the same feelings about the separation. Not only do expectations matter when it comes to navigating the pitfalls of long distance relationships, they also matter when it comes to determining where the whole thing is even going. Is the separation somehow moving the relationship ahead a step, or does the distance mean it›s moving in a less hopeful direction?
Use of masks Through e-mail and texting we cannot truly convey our speech patterns or personalities. As hard as we may try to «type like we talk» it is simply impossible, as our minds will always aim to try and give off the best impression. Even in person, potential lovers try to impress the opposite sex so just think about how bad it must be where part of your personality can be easily hidden behind an electronic mask.
Long distance relationship doomed

Is Staying In Love A Choice?
one falls in love by choice, it’s by chance. No one stays in love “No by chance, it’s by work. No one falls out of love by chance, it’s by choice. ” Unknown
Falling in love is wonderful and, as long term marriages and divorces show, far easier than staying in love. While falling in love is magical, staying in love is demanding. In so many ways falling in love is accidental, a result of being in the right place at the right time with the right new person. Staying in love has none of the benefits of spontaneity; to the contrary one has to maintain love under repetitious conditions and long after the emergence of many negative traits and behaviors that were hardly noticed at the beginning. In any romance, at the beginning when you were trying to fall in love to whoever the lucky person was, you treated that particular person special. The words you used were perfect and sweet, your smiles were like honey, you would never say ‘NO’ to this person, you always be punctual, you didn’t mind the wrongs, you could bear with all nonsense, you were supportive, you think highly of this individual, you won’t get angry and upset, you accept all the wrong doings, every minute spent was so happy and exciting, you offered encouragement and motivation, your expression was soft and gentle, you forgave easily and you took that soul as important. So sad! After falling in love and now trying to stay in love is entirely a different picture. Words spoken were harsh and sometimes could be hurting. The ‘YESes’ become lesser and approaches tend to be more defensive. Not punctual but the partner has to be punctual. Every single mistake make could be identified easily. Criticize and condemn on small little issues. Get angry and upset quite often openly. No wrong doing could be forgiven. Encouragement and motivation were the past. Yelling and shouting are common affairs. That individual might no longer as important as before. So, what does it take to stay in love? How does intentional love replace reactive love? Love is a choice. When you wake up in the morning and think about the one you love, you say to yourself “I choose to love this person today and every day of my life,” regardless of his imperfections. In a relationship that isn’t working, you choose to put an end to it. After that, given an ample time to recover, you also 76 |

choose to get involved with someone who’s like-minded. At the beginning of a potential great relationship you make a choice to spend time to that person to have a glimpse of what can develop. You celebrate the fact that once again, you get to love a person and get to be loved the same way in return. Many people believe that love is something that simply occurs and happens unexpectedly. But as the relationship grows, the definition of love also grows. Love is both a noun and a verb. The noun part is the feeling you have when you think about the person first thing in the morning, till the end of the day. The verb part is the actions you take for feeling that way. Your love for someone should be action oriented and consistent, in order for love to stay after many years together. Many people allow romantic love, or feelings, to become the basis for relationship and happiness. But this kind of foundation is more likely to be unsteady because you or your partner will later on seek new emotional highs as time goes by. A relationship based on just feelings and emotions are inconsistent, more so the circumstances that give rise to them. Love is a choice, it isn’t born but made. Love is a choice you make every day of your life. In fact, what you think you feel is actually something you choose to feel. You make a choice to feel a certain way or not. That’s how you choose to control your emotions. This is true in most areas of life. In choosing to feel love, you need to choose sensibly because falling in love is not something you choose not to feel after a relationship went downhill. Love is a choice, an ongoing and a conscious choice, you make each and every day of your life.
Love is a choice. And you can never confuse “love” with the feeling of being “in love.” This is one of the most important lessons you can ever get in the midst of being and staying in love. I’m sure you, just like me, those who have experienced to be loved and lost a love, can all attest to that. Love does not automatically last forever. Intentional, cherished love is different than reactive, romantic love, and provides a different set of benefits as you get older and confront more and more of life’s challenges. Staying in love is an act of will, of determination and of self control. Romance can stay in your conscious memory where you can visit it forever. Kiss, hold hands, and walk together. Silences can mean more than words. You cannot live forever, but your love can. It really is up to you. If you are one of those who are facing this problem, it is about time to work on your relationship. Falling in love is easy but trying to stay in love is always difficult. I think the best way to stay in love successfully is to keep reminding ourselves that we have to put extra effort to love our partner. Don’t ever take him or her for granted. See the goodness of each other more, rather than catching each other mistakes and errors. Love is a game that two can play and “ both win. ” Remember what you first found fantastic Perhaps the hardest thing to do to stay in love is always keeping in your consciousness a number of visual and behavioral mental pictures of your loved one that were especially powerful at the very start of your relationship. There were surely moments and events that played a powerful role at first that were triggering feelings of love. Memories naturally fade over time, which is why it takes intention and effort to keep those special images alive. A facial expression, a few remarks, some clothing, the physical setting, and particularly your own responses that played such a key role in making you feel in love. Keeping such memories accessible is like keeping a beautiful flower alive for years through continued nourishment. Put bad habits and behaviors in perspective When love first hits you hard it is nearly impossible
to fully recognize the many personal characteristics of the other person that you will inevitably find negative. After all, no person, absolutely no person, can possibly behave exactly how you would like someone to behave. The things that drive you little nuts can mushroom in importance, if you let them, especially so when they are fairly routine. Loving someone does not mean that you can or should block out things that you do not like. What is required, however, is that you remind yourself such negatives pale in comparison to the many traits and behaviors that you loved at first and still do. Perspective is what matters. Keeping things in the right proportions and certainly not trying to change in the other person what cannot be changed. This too must be remembered: You too have many characteristics that do not please your beloved. Mutual acceptance of imperfections is the key to staying in love. This is not a problem as long you keep implementing Step #1. Stay away from temptations Face reality. If you want to stay in love with someone, then you must decide not to open the door to possible new romantic involvement. Temptations are always around for both men and women. Flirting can first seem innocent. But experience has shown that opening the romantic door even a little can become dangerous and lethal to long term relationships. The problem is that at the beginning of any relationship only the positives control feelings. It is far too easy to succumb to fleeting feelings that make steady execution of Steps #1 and 2 fail. Letting yourself give in to temptation inevitably raises thorny issues of truth, lies and commitment. Find other ways to get excitement in life. Otherwise you set yourself up for very painful conflicts. August 2013 |

Tips for Traveling with Kids
I
t’s easy to throw the routine and schedule out the window when you’re on vacation! You want to experience everything, and that means you can’t be tethered to the hotel room or condo for naps and a reasonable bedtime, especially when you have kids! But here’s the thing: If you help your child stay on track while on vacation, you’ll enjoy the vacation more (no more cranky baby!), you’ll have child-free time while s/he’s napping (if you honor his/her nap schedule), and the transition back to home and the normal routine will be easier!
1. Don’t over schedule Remember when it was just the two of you? Forget it! Now you’re a +1 (or 2.) When it’s just the two of you, you can pack as much as you want into each day, but when you have a baby with you, it’s important to remember that they don’t have your stamina, or attention span! So when you’re planning each day, err on the side of less activities. You and your child will appreciate a more relaxed schedule. 78 |
| August 2013
2. Don’t ditch naptime When you’re on vacation, you’ll be tempted to have your child take stroller or car naps. So much to see. So much to do. And lots of friends and family to catch up with. You’ll likely need to fall back on a car or stroller nap, but try to make it the exception, rather than the rule. If you do car and stroller naps for all (or most) naps: Your child will not get the quality or length of a crib nap while on the go and will likely get overtired.
Your child may start to prefer motion to fall asleep (depending on how often the car/stroller naps happen, age and how strong his sleep skills were prior to the trip). If your baby is on a 2 or 3 nap schedule, try to have the morning nap in the crib. That’s typically the best nap of the day, and easiest to fall asleep for. Remember that when your baby gets enough sleep, he’ll be happier, and everyone will enjoy the time you are out and about that much more! 3. Keep the rules the same If your child does not co-sleep, don’t start when on vacation! If your child isn’t allowed to watch TV or play with your ipad right before bed, don’t start when you’re on vacation! When you get home, you’ll be busy unpacking and getting back to the normal routine and you’ll let your child continue that first night back home, and next thing you know, your child won’t want to give it up! Just ask yourself if this new thing will be something you can (and want) to do when you get back home. If so, then go for it! But if you know it’ll be hard to continue at home, don’t start doing it on your trip. Kids don’t understand that vacation life is often different than “real life” (i.e. more desserts!). They don’t understand that these aren’t permanent changes. Try not to make changes o n vacations that will be hard to stop once you get home.
6. Book an off-peak flight and purchase new things to keep kids entertained This is amongst the most useful tips when traveling with kids. Most of us would prefer either the last or the earliest flight. Though, this isn’t a good idea if you’re traveling with children. Kids have short-attention span and they quickly and easily get irritated. Do not prefer the last or first flights; you’ll be travelling in a full plane with your little ones who will surely get grumpy easily. To avoid that, think about their comfort first. Load up your smartphone with new apps, purchase episodes of a favorite TV show or movies to watch on your tablet or laptop, and invest in some new markers, crayons, or stickers. Having new and novel items that your kids haven’t seen before will help keep them occupied on your flight. Courtesy: sleeptrainingsolutions.com
4. Pack the “familiar” Does your child have a lovey or blanket that he sleeps with? That’s something to pack in the carryon (don’t check them in case your suitcase gets delayed). It could easily get lost (eeks!) or dirty (and you may not have access to a washing machine, or have time to wash it before bed). Do you use a toddler clock at home? Bring it along! It will make sleep (naps especially) easier in an unfamiliar place. 5. Have the same bedtime routine If you typically read 2 books, and your child gets 4 or 5 stories when you’re away, your child will expect the extra stories when you get home. If you have a 10 minute bath before bed at home, a 30 minute bath on the trip, the bedtime routine will be twice as long when you get home (or you’ll get a long of pushback with the shorter bath). Neither of those are good options! If you can do an abbreviated (not longer) version of the routine that you normally do at home, the consistency and predictability will help your child settle down and fall asleep more easily. Number 6 Lightning strikes about 6,000 times per minute on this planet.
“Sixth sense” can apply to couples! Psychologists have long known that some couples learn to think like each other; allowing them to ‘know’ what their partner is thinking or about to say. Scientists have found that some couples are so in tune that their brains begin to work in sync!

A perfect number is a whole number whose factors (not including itself) add up to that number. The first perfect number is 6, since its factors when added together equal 6 (1+2+3=6). The next perfect number is 28. See if you can work out whether this is true or not. What are its factors?

Leo in a Nutshell The lion, the king of the jungle is the right representative of the zodiac sign Leo. People born under the zodiac sign Leo are born with the motto, “I Will”. They are people who are admired and respected by one and all. These people command great respect and they are benevolent to those who are less privileged. They are born performers and great organizers. They are upfront and honest and tend to tell things on the face than keep any grudges. They are born leaders but tend to be autocratic and imposing at times. Pride and dignity are the most important aspects in their life and they would go to any extent to protect it. Leo in Love On the positive side, Leos are very creative individuals which may make them attractive to potential lovers. They are born romantics and can give their partners a great time. Their charismatic personality makes them a magnet of the opposite sex. On the negative side, their desire to lead may be their undoing as they may come across as too dominating. Leos can be very pompous and proud. They always look forward to being pampered and showered with compliments the absence of which infuriates them. They can be very egoistic and they are too possessive of their lovers. Leo and Business Business dealings are easy and successful for Leo, if they are in command and control. This can cause conflict in the workplace should the Leo not be in a position of superiority, but they usually get there eventually thanks to their powerful drive to succeed. Leos can be very diplomatic in a group setting and can delegate people well; however, Leo will not take orders. They need to give orders but with their enthusiasm and cheerfulness, other people do not have a problem taking orders from a Leo because they are never condescending and they treat others with respect and equality. Leos make an impact, they make a difference in the workplace and help to keep the parts moving in sync and iron out any problems before they arise. Leo and Friendship People are attracted to Leo’s zest for life and their warm spirit. They have the ability to lift up one’s spirits and provide encouragement when times are rough. Leos are social butterflies, not because they want to be but because people always naturally gravitate and surround them. Leos are very difficult people to not like, they are usually fairly balanced, realistic people. Some Leos might be too caught up in themselves and be very self-centered but they are never too self-absorbed to help anyone who needs them.
