I
f you live in a Middle Eastern society, and often hear the term ‘Alpha Female’, chances are you’ve been misled in attributing the term to the domineering, authoritative, and the aggressive type of a woman. She’s been described as manipulative, bossy, uncontrollable… you name it! Fact is, these are all traits made up by those faint at heart; men who are scared to love her and women who fail to be like her.
The Alpha Female is always perceived rebellious and untamed, but in fact she is determined, persistent, and will fight for what she wants till her very last breath. Chain her, restrain her; she’ll just fight stronger and fiercer. They call her arrogant and haughty, but the truth is she knows her self-worth, has self-respect and dignity. She won’t play your games, she isn’t cruel, but she doesn’t take disrespect or mistreatment. Bring her down, or take her for granted, and she’ll walk away with no return, unapologetically! The Alpha Female knows no competition because she is confident. She never puts other women down, she supports, encourages, and inspires. Life might have knocked her down several times, but down there at the rock bottom, with all her resilience she clawed her way back up again. Stronger. Braver. She is true to herself, acknowledges her drawbacks, owns up to her mistake, and never will she ever condemn her past experiences. She will learn and move on. She is the paradox of strong and soft, well-guarded and vulnerable, she is the Alpha Female. Love her or hate her; it’s always your choice. But you haven’t really experienced the thrill of life, haven’t you met yet the Alpha Female!

inter is at its peak and we need to take extra care of our skin before following the latest trends. With the change of weather during this time of the year, it is particularly hard as the dry wind, and chilly weather can make the skin dry up easily, it’s very important to stick to a daily skin care routine to maintain your natural beauty. You will need to show it a little bit of extra love and care! Before we speak about the season’s top makeup and beauty trends, let’s go through simple steps that will make your skin glow in the harshly cold Winter.
HYDRATING With the cold weather we tend to forget to drink as much water as we should, which is the most important aspect for the human body. Staying hydrated helps prevent early signs of skin ageing and the appearance of wrinkles
CLEANSING & TONING For a healthy glowing skin we need to cleanse whether with a facial wash or facial foam. Following this step, use toning toner or rose water to remove post cleansing residual dirt. Toning is very important not to only tighten your pores but to prepare it for your moisturizer. 26 | JANUARY 2019
MOISTURIZEING Moisturizing oily and normal skin is as important as moisturizing dry skin. Some of the effective day/ night creams are Vichy, Clarins and No.7. Now in case you have very dry or flakey skin due to the weather then add scrub routine which can be done all naturally with brown sugar and coconut oil.
WINTER 2019 MAKEUP TRENDS Looking at the catwalk makeup trends for Fall/Winter 2018/2019 you won’t be able to pick one specific look or color palette. The one thing that was very common and obvious was dropping the heavy contouring! It’s no longer in, that cakey foundation and heavy contour is finally gone! Most of makeup artists opted to natural glowing skins along with natural eyebrows. So instead of contouring you can frame the face and that’s basically by taking a large brush and frame the face with bronzer along the temples, under the cheekbones and jawline. Use a very subtle highlighter to add glow to your skin.
NUDE, TINTED & NAKED LIPS Very subtle and minimal colors are used from nothing on your lips to nude shades. For nude shades they varied between caramel, tan and blush colors all in matte depending on the skin tone. Tinted lips probably my favorite this year is by Dior Addict Tattoo they come in different colors and you get to pick based on your skin tone and lip color leaving with a natural look. They get to give you that undone finish that lipsticks can’t do. You can wear it all day at the office and the best bit of it is when they wear off throughout the day, they leave behind a desirably unfinished look that perfectly complements the cold mood of the season.
Colored Eyeliner: Speaking of edgy this year colored eyeliner is in from blue, purple, green to pink,yellow and red! Colored eyeliners are a youthful way to inject colors onto an ordinary everyday look. Blue eyes look beautiful with blue, pink, purple, and orange eyeliners. Green eyes look great with purple, burnt pink, and light blue shades. Brown eyes look best with light purple, deep green, and navy blue. We sat for an interview with Dolly Yanny; the young entrepreneur behind the massively successful product line Dolls Lashes, who not only impressed us with her magnificent career path at such a blooming age but also with the amount of determination, passion and soul put into everything she does. HOW DID IT ALL START FOR YOU AS A MAKEUP ARTIST, INFLUENCER AND ENTREPRENEUR WITH A HIT LIKE DOLLS LASHES? As I was younger and throughout middle school, I had passion for art and the use of vibrant color palettes in creating it, so you could tell that there was always an intention within me and some sort of fondness towards the makeup field. Things changed for me during a trip to Sweden when a close friend of mine got me a book that made me fall deeper in love with the beauty and makeup world and that’s when I got motivated to enhance my skills through professional international courses. So, at 16 there I was going to Dubai for makeup master classes with well-known artists from all around the globe. There I got to meet the biggest beauty blogger and influencer ever “Huda Kattan” and it was surreal; she encouraged me to fulfill my dream and start my own beauty business by creating lashes as the first line explaining that it was the smoothest door to open in that field providing my brand name with a signature on all eyes those lashes complement. Along that way, I was also determined to get recognition and work opportunities for funding my business so I started an Instagram account through which I displayed my work on family and friends and I was so content people started interacting with me and inquiring about my work almost instantly. I earned my first job

-a while later- doing a cover shoot for an entertainment and lifestyle Egyptian magazine alongside many of today’s most recognizable faces like Nourhanne Eissa and Salma Abu Deif and that gave me a kick start on my career as a makeup artist. WHAT WERE YOUR BIGGEST FEARS AND GREATEST CHALLENGES THROUGH YOUR WAY TO THE TOP? Well, my young age was a major setback especially for an artist working in the Middle East where working at this age requires the consent of your parents and is often met with rejections and lack of support. At times, I had to conceal my age at courses just to get the opportunity to network with other people in the field and get jobs. There was this instant where I had the opportunity to work with a great brand at Dubai; however things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to and being young was again the reason behind missing out on that chance. At that time it was too frustrating but little did I know that those challenges will soon initiate change within me and would be a point of strength acknowledged by everyone around me especially when I wanted to start my brand Dolls lashes and take it global. The negative experiences I had as a young lady have truly reshaped me in a good way and I am glad that I have been through it all because my hard work finally earned me respect, acceptance and a place when I touched down in the city of stars: Los Angeles.

ACHIEVING SUCCESS AT A YOUNG AGE COMES WITH A HIGH PRICE. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO OVERCOME THOSE OBSTACLES AND REACH THIS LEVEL OF SUCCESS AGAINST ALL ODDS? When you start working at a young age, there is no such thing as a guide to balancing your career, your academic life and your social life as a teenager wanting to hangout out with friends, explore and go on adventures. And facing facts, it wasn’t really achievable; throughout high school I wasn’t there in family gatherings or friends’ outings and at one point I even had to skip classes at school because I was high on demand with many clients requesting me by name. I insisted to keep doing what I do as best as I can because it felt right in my guts and my parents did support me-I give them that- but it was a bitter sweet truth to them. There I was- their own child-succeeding in my career and achieving remarkable progress that can’t be stopped for anything in the world yet from another perspective I wasn’t living the full experience of a teenager. Looking back now, when I see someone my age still beginning their career path and trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives I feel no regrets, on the contrary; it fills me with pride and satisfaction that I figured this hard equation out a while back. And yes, maybe it wasn’t always sunny on my side of the road but one thing that did lift my spirits up me was inspirational people I met along the way like my true friend Amr Salama who motivated me to put in more hard work and soul into everything I do and never to regret a moment of it for it would all make sense and be worthwhile when success is achieved.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES AN ARTIST STANDOUT IN THE SEA OF GREAT TALENTS THERE IN THE BEAUTY WORLD? What makes anyone unique is being authentic and staying true to one’s self. I would say not being afraid to show your deepest core, taking risks and being creative with what you do are keys to being unique. If we’re being specific and speaking of the beauty field precisely then I think not being a copycat of every other artist; you can get inspired by someone without losing yourself and trademark within the process. I would definitely say don’t go with the flow but be
WHAT WAS A MILESTONE OR A HIGHLIGHT FOR YOU DURING YOUR CAREER AT 2018? I would say focusing on my new baby Dolls lashes has given me highlights of a lifetime. It’s been a great year for my brand and I am so thankful for it; I got to meet and strike deals with so many celebrities who fell in love with my product line and had great reviews on it. I also signed two contracts with stores back in L.A. which was a dream come true and a very satisfactory milestone in my life as an

prepared to do looks out of your passion towards them or the things they are inspired by; I mean this is how someone like James Charles-one of the greatest beauty bloggers out there- did it sticking to his beliefs, displaying his great personality in color and believing in himself. I would say being unique comes from a serene place where you know where you stand and can co – exist with peers in the same field supporting each other without feeling like it is some sort of competition or race to a finish line; it is you writing the story of your life inspiring people around you and making a living doing what you love the most. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING YOUNG TALENTS STRIVING TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS LIKE YOU DID? Well first, I would like to give advice to the parents of these young talents because this is the first challenge they would meet as they are growing up and trying to identify their path and objectives in life. I had many great and skillful assistants working by my side with a couple of unfortunate stories in common; studying a different field because their parents want them to and not receiving enough support from their immediate environment. So, here’s one message to the parents: believe in your kids and support them no matter how different their path choice may be from yours, their passion towards their dream is enough drive to keep them going; working hard and pushing themselves beyond their limits. And for the talents themselves: I would say question yourself constructive questions every step of your way. Why are you doing this? What is your rational behind it? What message do you want to convey to the world? What are you trying to prove and to whom? This series of questions doesn’t only help you define who you are but also motivates you and gives you energy to put it into different fields so you can eventually arrive to your goal and the things you want achieve the most. Do that without putting yourself or anyone else down along the way

for envy and lack of self-confidence are your ultimate enemies; acknowledge your successes, learn from your mistakes and believe that God put talent in you for a higher cause so don’t give up so easily even if it takes time, it will be worth it at some point on your way to the top.

ave you ever looked at someone and thought, “Why don’t I have what they have?” or “Why didn’t I come up with that idea?” and proceeded to melt into a puddle of jealousy, envy and self-doubt!
I’m sure you’ve felt it… that sick feeling when someone you know, a dear, close friend, a family member, an old rival gets something you desperately want. You hate when jealousy creeps in, but you can’t bring yourself to overcome envy. Jealousy and envy are two of the most common yet negative and useless emotions many of us have. However if you let both of these destructive feelings overwhelm you, the first and only person who will be poisoned is “you”. And no matter how hard you try to cover it with a smile, envy isn’t something that goes away on its own. It can spiral out of control that will lead you into destructive jealousy and even depression. However the good news is before you beat yourself up for feeling jealous and try to squash the emotion, everything you know about jealousy is wrong. Feeling it doesn’t make you a bad person and while most of people say this, the truth is, it depends on how you act upon it. Let me give you 5 useful tips on how turn negative jealousy into a positive one that can also be a valuable clue on who you want to be and how to get there.. 1.Think about how negative jealousy & envy have harmed you It can be any of the below and even more, so be honest with yourself when you think about it! Did it.. • Take up your time • Consume your thoughts • Ruin your personal and professional relationships • Create a constant negative feeling whenever you that person 2.Write it down. Journaling is a great way to express your feelings and deal with negative emotions. Journaling about your jealousy may help you to start to understand it better and begin to deal it. After writing it down, take a deep breath and read
again what you’ve journalized. This is an extremely important eye-opener exercise! Always remember, self awareness is always the first step towards self discovery 3.Understand that when you feel envy, it’s not about the other person or circumstance, it’s fundamentally about you. It’s time to question yourself not in a judgmental way but rather a means to focus on what needs to change within yourself in order to get what you want. 4.Ask yourself these extremely important questions and think about each one thoroughly before you answer.. • What can I learn from this person’s success? • What’s been stopping me from thinking bigger with my life and not achieving what they’ve achieved? • Have I set the right standards for my own success? • Have I appreciated what I’ve already achieved or have I just dismissed milestones? • Am I not getting recognition because I’ve been envious of others rather than recognizing their successes positively? 5.Understand your own capabilities. Not all of us have the same abilities and talents, and this can be a major cause of envy. That’s why it’s important to understand what your own abilities are and to focus on developing them, rather than envying someone else’s strengths. Our minds are full of blockages that determine every result we have and will ever have in life, and nothing will change until we shift those mental patterns. Once you start removing these stumbling blocks, it can be much easier to focus on your own dreams and goals, and the process and work you need to put in to make them reality; everything from growing your personal relationships to growing your career or own business becomes much easier to tackle.

SHREDDED BEEF ENCHILADAS Ingredients: 1 1/2 lb. beef shoulder roast 2 tbsp. Taco Seasoning 2 tsp. chili powder 1 15-ounce can green enchilada sauce 1 tbsp. corn starch plus 3 tbsp. cold water 12 flour tortillas 2 c. shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided Salsa, onions, cilantro, chopped tomatoes, avocado, for garnish Directions: 4.Pour 1 cup water into your slow cooker. Add beef roast, then sprinkle taco seasoning and chili powder over the beef. Cover and cook on low until fall-apart tender, 8 hours. Shred with two forks. 5.In a medium saucepan, bring enchilada sauce to a boil. Stir together cornstarch and water until dissolved in a small bowl, then add to enchilada sauce and reduce heat to medium-low, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat. 6.Preheat oven to 350ยบ and grease a large casserole or baking dish. Spread half of the enchilada sauce in the bottom of the dish. 7.Arrange tortillas on a clean flat surface. Divide 1 cup cheese among tortillas. Top with shredded beef. Roll tightly and place side by side in baking dish. Top with remaining half enchilada sauce and cheese. 8.Cover dish with foil and bake until cheese is melted, 10 to 12 minutes. Uncover and bake 4 to 5 minutes more. Top enchiladas with desired toppings and serve. 42 | JANUARY 2019
RAMEN CHICKEN NOODLES Ingredients: 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil 2 bell peppers, chopped 2 large carrots, peeled and chopped 1/2 c. Thinly sliced green onions 3 cloves garlic, minced kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 4 c. low-sodium chicken broth 2 packages ramen noodles (seasoning packets discarded) 2 c. shredded rotisserie chicken 1/4 c. freshly chopped cilantro Juice of 1 lime, plus lime wedges for serving Directions: 1. In a large soup pot, heat oil. Add bell peppers, carrots, green onions, and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Cook until soft, 6 to 8 minutes. 2. Add chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Add ramen noodles and cook until tender, 2 to 3 minutes, then stir in chicken, cilantro, and lime juice. Simmer until heated through. 3. Serve with lime.
CHICKEN SPINACH ARTICHOKE RICE CASSEROLE Ingredients: 3/4 c. basmati rice 1 1/2 c. whole milk 1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan 6 oz. cream cheese, cubed 2 cloves garlic, minced Crushed red pepper flakes Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 rotisserie chicken, shredded (about 4 1/2 cups) 2 c. fresh spinach, tightly packed 1 (14-oz.) can artichoke hearts, drained and quartered 2 c. shredded mozzarella, divided Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare rice according to package instructions. 2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine whole milk and Parmesan. When cheese is melted, add cream cheese, garlic, and red pepper flakes and season with salt and pepper. Cook until cream cheese is melted and mixture is slightly thickened, about 4 minutes. 3. In a large bowl, stir together cooked rice, chicken, spinach, artichoke hearts, 1 cup mozzarella, and cream cheese mixture and transfer to a 9”-x-13” baking dish. Top with remaining cheese and bake until cheese is melty and golden, 20 minutes.

Here, we’ve summed up some basics guidelines enhancing your list of relationship skills:
1.LET GO OF THE PAST Let go of grudges from past experiences, stop beating yourself up for your fallacies or wallowing over your exes or current partner’s mistakes. It may enhance your learning curve but it won’t change anything whatever happened there and then. Learn to love your path with its bumps and holes for they define your inner strength today and neverwe repeat never- fake immunity against relationships for we are born into this world to communicate and co-exist together.
2.THINK POSITIVELY Have a positive attitude towards situations and circumstances that happened, happening or will happen. Looking on the sunny side of things and making peace with the past help you tolerate differences between you and the person of interest in the equation, it never means disregarding important requirements within a relationship, it means making the right choice about what to care about and cherish the most.
3.BE HONEST Staying true to yourself and your partner is crucial for building a strong relationship on an honesty pillar. Don’t have doubt while speaking the truth and your guts out nor shy
from communicating your feelings both positive and negative ones, but bear in mind that the latter type of feelings ought to be voiced in form of constructive statements without pointing fingers; which takes us to the next point.
4.SAY NO TO JUDGMENT Judgment kills passion, fun and love within any relationship. Holding the past as proof against your partner especially during a fight only makes matters worse. If someone invites you into their secrets or past life, it means they trust you enough so don’t jeopardize that as the road only goes downhill from there. Don’t forget that you shouldn’t accept judgment if tables were turned and we know it may seem impossible escaping your inner insecurities within a relationship whether you just broke one a while ago or recently but forgiving your past self and forgiving your partner’s past are keys to starting respectful relationships from square one.
5.LISTEN Conversations always flow both ways; listen to the other side’s perspective and work it out together. It is worth mentioning that listening more to people sharing their experiences, thoughts and dreams helps you form a bigger and much deeper picture about them and fills your senses with details heightening the inclination towards falling in love with them.
6.TRY NEW THINGS Sharing new experiences with your partner deepens bonds and helps you discover new qualities and tiny details that make you fall in love with their personality. Goofing around and being your normal self without filters helps reduce stress and distance between you and others. Seek great adventures and thrilling moments together for they make the best memories.
7.HAVE AN AIM Last but not least and as we mentioned the obvious before; it’s a New Year!
