ABOUT SILA
The Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) is a non-profit organization representing the landscape architectural profession in Singapore. It was established in 1985 with the objectives to promote the profession of landscape architecture, support research and education in landscape architecture, as well as create and maintain a high standard of professional qualification.
ABOUT THE AWARDS
Under SILA’s key thrust, we welcome initiatives and collaborations with local tertiary institutions, and work closely with them to continuously advance the learning and practice of landscape architecture. SILA believes in continuous learning and innovation. We believe in providing educational support to grow our profession and nurture the future leaders of our profession. The theme ‘Beyond Just Green’ epitomizes the intellectual rigor of the profession, inspiring creative design solutions within parameters determined by research and analysis. It aims to create awareness that landscape architecture goes beyond the ‘green’ norms of designing with plants and gardens.
The Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects held the 2016 Student Design Awards Ceremony on 1 October 2016 at the ArchiFest Pavilion in Raffles Place Park, Singapore.
SILA PRESIDENT’S FOREWORD The 2016 edition of the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) Student Design Awards spells an interesting chapter for SILA as we celebrate together with ArchiFest, an annual architectural public outreach festival. We have been privileged to showcase the working synergy between landscape design and the built environment. No man is an island; which will be forecast of the future collaborative work environments our students will meet. The institute views this event both a student design competition as well as a platform for the professional organization to touch base with the educational institutes where future generations of Landscape Architects are nurtured. For this year’s awards, we are heartened to garner a total of 77 entries from 15 universities and polytechnics from 8 countries namely Australia, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. We hope that the event can continue to grow and reach out to more institutions with more entries in the future. We would also like to thank our sponsors for supporting the event, playing their part to grow the future of the profession, as well as extend our gratitude to the jury panel members Mr Damian Tang, Ms Fumiko Sano, Ms Yvonne Tan, Ms Helen Smith-Yeo, Ms Srilalitha Gopalakrishnan and Mr Jason Wright for judging the awards. SILA congratulates all the winners and participants for the very high standard of work showcased.
