MANAGER'S MESSAGE John Nelson Board of Directors, President The process of moving Lake Quivira back to some level of normalcy after Covid-19 began during the month of May and will continue throughout most of June. As this process occurs, all of our state and county health officials continue to strongly recommend social distancing and controlling large group gatherings. Lake Quivira continues to use a phased approach that was developed and
based initially on the recommendations of our Wyandotte County health officials. Most of our outdoor amenities including golf, tennis, and the beach are fully operational. The clubhouse and related food and beverage operations are expanding their services as the guidelines allow. At this time, our greatest difficulty in reopening these areas, is balancing the cost of staffing and not seeing the usage from our membership. For this reason, we may still be experiencing some periods of closure in food and beverage until the member demand supports complete reopening.

amenities are in full swing at Lake Quivira. We look forward to creating another memorable season for our members this year. Thank you to all of you who have referred or introduced your friends, neighbors and colleagues to the club. Please keep sharing your love of Lake Quivira, as now is a perfect time for new members to join. With so much uncertainty, many have decided to opt out of the family vacation. As we all know, there is no better place to live or play than right here at the lake. Share Lake Quivira with your people so they too can make Lake Quivira their Summer Staycation destination! If you know of anyone interested in membership, please send them my way!
The first member to find me and return me to Katie Osborn, at the Clubhouse will receive a summer treat! Good luck! We will post on the Lake Quivira Facebook page once I'm found.
Welcome New Members We would like to wish a warm LQ welcome to our new members! Rick & Andrea Gordon Andy & Kelsey Marske Thank you for choosing Lake Quivira Country Club!

DINING & SPECIAL EVENTS Faith Robertson Food and Beverage Service Director Dear members of Lake Quivira, We are so excited to be able to open the Clubhouse to you once again! We look forward to serving you wonderful meals and providing great service this summer. Although the clubhouse and service may look a little different than before, with paper menus, face masks and social distancing, we are grateful for the opportunity to take care of you. Please welcome Lisa Johnson as the newest addition to the Clubhouse
management team. Lisa has a background in sales and corporate dining and has already brought many great ideas to the team. She will be assisting in overseeing staff during ala carte dining, events and banquets. I will be away from the clubhouse for a couple of months as my family is growing and our newest addition is expected to arrive mid-June. In my absence, please reach out to Katie Osborn (KOsborn@Lakequivira.org) or Lisa Johnson (LJohnson@Lakequivira.org) for your clubhouse needs. I hope to be back to the clubhouse soon! Thank you for your continued support and usage of your Club.

GOLF COURSE
Brad Lackey Grounds Manager & Course Superintendent The new Driving Range Hitting Facility is all complete and just waiting for power to be hooked up to the building. The building provides three hitting bays for when the weather is not cooperating, 1 of those for when a private listen is scheduled. Restrooms, a patio and plenty of storage room for the golf operations team will provide Lake Quivira with another amenity unlike any others. The horticulture team has been busy planning, designing and installing the annuals that beautify the grounds once again
with

everywhere. Lori and her team are always adding such a stunning display to the
community’s landscape. The Garden Club has been gracious to donate volunteers and time in helping plant once again and it is always appreciated. The revitalization of the horse pasture was successful with the help of Mother Nature and the Equestrian club. A schedule on grazing, agronomical practices and education on what horses like and don’t, will continue to help raise the bar. This area of the community is a continuing project that every year is taking steps forward. Along with the daily and routine maintenance operations which are endless and the upcoming sodding and landscaping of the community center, the Grounds Maintenance department is working hard as always in providing the best playing conditions and ascetic appearances let Lake Quivira expects. Enjoy!

FOR
SAFETY TIPS OPERATING A GOLF CART It's golf cart season here at LQ! A few things to remember...
1
Drivers of golf carts need to be at least 14 years old and having completed the golf cart safety class, even when an adult is on the cart.
Golf carts should pull over to the far-right side of the road to allow for safe passing.
3
Please don't let children drive the golf cart, even in the lap of an adult.
Like driving a car, texting while driving a golf cart is a hazard.

The number of riders are limited to the seating capacity of the golf cart.

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
We would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to the Garden Club from Golf Maintenance. Lori Keller, Madison Farmer and Molly Born want to say THANK YOU to the Garden Club Volunteers! Getting almost 5,000 plants in the ground every year is not an easy task. Lori begins with the initial designs in August. She works with Gayle Best and Riva Noack to do the fine tuning and then gets to work on calculating how many plants are needed for their particular spacing and square footage. Next, numbers for all the beds are sent out to bid to different growers by the end of October. From there, it's forgotten until the following spring when it is time for the plants to arrive. An additional thank you to Gayle and Riva for getting everything laid out according to design. Have a wonderful summer, volunteers and enjoy the beauty that you helped create for the entire community. It takes many hands to make light work as you can see.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Keep a look out for an email announcement about the Teen Golf Cart Training Course! We'll be sending it out soon.
Historically, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer and here at Lake Quivira a significant increase in activity around our community. With this increased activity one must also recognize the increased concern for safety of our residents. These concerns are based on our narrow roadways and numerous blind corners as you travel around the lake. During the summer, we must all be cognizant of our speed as we travel around the lake either in a vehicle or golf cart. The posted speed limit at Lake Quivira is 20 MPH and enforceable by our local police department. We ask for everyone to slow down, enjoy the beauty we have to offer, and be safe. This is your community.
