the mixed and world open city of hamburg in the north of germany offers great open spaces and a mix of industrial and contemporary architecture and landscapearchitecture. with a population of 1.8 mio. people and a density of 2.421 persons per km2 hamburg is a metropolis with an impressive net of parks. supported by the remarkable influence of the river elbe with the international port and several canal systems that penetrate many quarters in the east of the city and the smaller river alster who forms a lake of 164 hectares in the north of the city centre and adjacent, in the city centre a second one of 18 hectares, hamburg is a city of water. during the internship i was able to develop projects and competitions related to water and the great green structure of the area. furthermore, i developed an individual user structure of the use of the cad program vectorworks. as a great comparison, the city of barcelona counts 1.6 mio. inhabitants with a density of 16.000 people per km2. this has a visible impact on density and use of the public space. also the position between the sea and the mountains built great opportunities in questions of city climate, urban recreation and organization of territories. furthermore, the south european climate, the different culture and the position between atlantic and mediterranean, opend me a very different vision of landscape architecture and spacial planning. not forgetting the diverse landscape of the iberian peninsula.

redesign of public spaces in the centre of barcelona, spain lecturers: jordi bellmunt jordi sardĂ oriol ribera sergi carulla victoria fiol

the workshop of public space was discussing the situation in between the historic city centre (25.000 inhabitants/ km2) and the district eixample, the expansion district, constructed in the 19th and early 20th centuries (36.000 inhabitants/km2). we investigated about the conflicts between the very touristic old town district and the local net of eixample. the project offers a detailed perception of how the new and modern public space in the heart of barcelona can change from border (like the old city wall on this place earlier) to connector, fetching the touching streets to evolve a transversal unity.

after the heavy wild fires of october 2017 at the atlantic coast of portugal and spain we visited the burnt areas around vigo three month later. the impressions of walking through the affected areas produced a degree of feelings between beauty and horror. we analysed the area and the special situation of the moment of recreation after the big disaster. during several talks by locals, firemen and administrative professionals we travelled back to barcelona to develop a territorial proposal to reduce the risk of wildfires in times of global warming.

the proposal was developed by the need of rediscover the opportunities of our surroundings, make space for the richness of the existing flora and fauna and manage a balance between them two. the area of pla de reixac, in the north of the barcelona metropolitan area, consists of several different environmental systems and hosts very diverse landscapes and wildlife populations. on one hand the urban areas built up their borders by infrastructures, on the other hand the agriculture (mostly public properties) coexists in an unstable environment. the projects proposal discovers and rates the different functions of each one and creates a new infrastructure to discover and management. camí serra worked as a stabil border of the urbanization. the torrent de can duran with its low and irregular water flow, hosts the characteristic plants and animals of this characteristic agriculture landscape in conflict with the destructive impact by human usage. re-naturalize, re-wander and rediscover. the proposal establishes the infrastructure of the area, the urban infrastructure of the street camí serra and the natural recorrido of torrent de can duran, based in form and function on the existing character. the camí serra is getting configured to a urban corridor in park style and panorama route, working with the existing small hills. the old paths get converted in natural connectors, following the eldest pathways and reducing the total quantity.

https://issuu.com /masterpaisatge /docs/booklet_c1

sea level rise is a fact that we should take in count, accepting that our coasts are strongly going to change during the next 100 years. the proposal tries to adapt the local environment to the future changes through landscape design and its transformation. viladecans, in the south of barcelona, is located in the old delta of the river llobregat. therefore one can find different ecosystems, depending of its ground water salinity and its soil. the project focuses in different management actions and typologies which try to keep this beautiful nature alive, preparing the coastal zone for the coming changes. the idea is to generate possibilities for the different ecosystems to move (natural adaptation of ecosystem to slow global changes) and face changes due to the water salinity, designing new sweet wetlands. the new natural reserve could be accessible for the human being through different structures that could react to the changes in a resilient or in a resistant way – stone paths that could be a new place for different species or elevated wooden paths that could permit the observation of nature in a respectful way. this could comprehension of the positive possibilities that changes can give to the land if we react respectfully and immediate.

the city of mestre is located in the hinterland of venice, italy. similar to the whole bay, the area of study is suffering with a phreatic level in around 1 meter depth and strong flooding during occasion of heavy rain. there is a high risk of flooding for the partly illegal built houses, also because of the hight sealing of soils in the small streets. the task of the project was to develop an working water management system that not only protects of future floods but also gives a certain transformation of quality to the quarter. working intensively with specific species again, it was very interesting to see how this special, humid but partly very dry area could transform to something dens with an natural and calm character and way of working.

rimini is a city that represents a type of mass tourism, which focuses on the convenience of renting a beach umbrella and a deckchair to get a tan on a completely artificial beach. the hydraulic infrastructure works based on a problem of erosion of the shrinking beach, whose loss can not be avoided if not only delayed over the years. the project is based on the redevelopment of the landscapes ancient elements and of emilia romagna in general: the maceri, artificial water tanks that farmers constructed to produce hemp for fabrics. those forgotten elements are dispersed in the landscape of rimini, very different from each other for vegetation, for evolution and contemporary use. through the creation of a system of tourist routes, it would be possible to create a new low-density tourism, to preserve the intimate character of these elements, their biodiversity and at the same time allow tourists to know and experience the character of the ancient agriculture. the project seeks, to broad views, to diversify the water supply and generate alternative tourism, reactivating a legacy of productive and ecological character at the same time. analysing the ecologically unsustainable use of the coast, the project seeks to open the possibility to a new vision of resilient tourism, through an infrastructure of simple construction that allows to raise and reactivate elements of the landscape that present a completely forgotten potential.

reveal, reactivate evolve: discovering the cracks lecturers: sara bartumeus ferre panita karamanea thanasis polyzoidis project partners: paz artiagoitia rossella dattoli paula baez booklet:

the quarter of provençals del poblenou in the north-east of the city centre of barcelona is a former area of industry which lost most of it’s activity. even if some fabrics are still located in the area, it turned very quiet an the old fabric areas were left to be owned by nature. during the years of silence the still standing areas between the fabrics changed, just like the density of population and quality of the needs of daily life shrank. the proposal works with the three main sensations of the genius loci which are the chimneys, the open lots and the memorial buildings. those create interesting horizons which got supported by the revival of the spontaneous nature. this new landscape opens cracks which permeate the total area from gran vía de las corts catalanes to the avinguda diagonal.

the strategy is hybrid and creates urban and social connections from bottom up as a large time project of three stages. it considers a first activation by artistic interventions to reveal the abandoned space and it’s potential. the second stage consists of the reactivation by physical transformation, combined with a social activation. it also takes in account the planned edification of the program 22@ and proposals an alternative realization. the main elements that lead through the stages are: the existing and new borders which create open air spaces for orientation and to make the visitors discover the special horizons of the area, the programation of those new spaces, based on the social investigation in situ and a selection of different pathways that unites the adjacent districts and the new areas with each other.

the revival of the area strives for the preparation of provenรงals del poblenou for future residential building in a cautious way. the neighbourhood needs to regain life quality and social nucleus to become a new evolutive residential project of barcelonas project 22@.

barcelona is a prominent city among the most visited in the world. according to data from the barcelona provincial council, 7.686.718 tourists arrived at the city in 2017. mostly wanting to enjoy their holidays and leisure, with an average age profile between 36 and 39 years. this high number of visitors contrasts with the 1.620.809 inhabitants registered in the census in the same year. this progressive evolution of the tourist activity restarted in the 80’s with the generation of a new image for barcelona, after the halt caused by the spanish civil war, with the celebration of the 1992 olympic games and the forum of cultures in 2004. over the years a tourist itinerary has been created consisting of the main monuments of the city, which included a few years ago the bunkers del carmel, for its wonderful views. on the other hand, one of the main tourist attractions of barcelona is the availability of a large number of shops and restaurants, which encourages consumption normally for the benefit of large companies. all these areas frequented by a massive tourism have been expelling the inhabitants of the place by the discomfort of living in them. public space such as la rambla have lost their identity with generalized souvenirs and specific activities that only try to attract the tourist’s attention. as barcelona is facing a very important economic activity, efforts should be directed towards thinking about how it is being managed as a tourist destination. nowadays, we also should be aware of the ecological

impact of this wave of consumption. the place we are observing, at the top of the turรณ de la rovira, directs both tourists and citizens, to a place that, despite its reform, still retains the memory of the uses that have been made of the site throughout the history; and the project that has been developed has taken into account visitors and inhabitants. another aspect that is transmitted in the place is the absence of consumer establishments that have exploited the area even when the number of visits is high. we think that its character as an informal public space which people can freely occupy is a very important factor to take into account. please find the full article at https://bunkersdelcarmel.tumblr.com
