Son compuestos de líquidos que aplicados sobre la superficie de la piel impiden a cierta escala la picadura de los insectos. Se dividen por sus compuestos y su horario de funcionalidad. Pueden haber repelentes muy fuertes y otros más naturales con menor efecto.

Los diferentes tipos de insectos reaccionan de manera distinta ante la variedad de repelentes. Hay factores que disminuyen su efecto, por ejemplo el sudor de cada persona, la temperatura ambiente y la humedad. Are liquid compounds that when applied on the surface of the skin, prevent insect bites to a certain degree. They are categorized according to their ingredients, and their duration of effectiveness. Some repellents are pretty strong, while others are more natural, therefore, these are less effective. Different kinds of insects react differently depending on the repellent being applied. Also, there are several factors that reduce the effectiveness, such as the person's sweat, humidity, and temperature of the environment. These factors also affect the type of absorption it will have on the skin, as well as the duration of the effectiveness.

Los repelentes orgánicos, como su nombre lo dice, provienen de plantas que con ayuda de un proceso de extracción se convierten en aceites esenciales, los cuales, si provienen de un lugar seguro, pueden brindar beneficios innumerables. Para la elaboración de un repelente orgánico, los materiales suelen ser de fácil alcance y los puedes encontrar en cualquier supermercado o tienda departamental. Hay muchos aceites esenciales que ayudan a repeler insectos, los más comunes y más utilizados son: citronela, clavo, eucalipto, albahaca, romero, lavanda, cedro, entre otros.

NECESITAMOS:

∙ Alcohol ∙ Aceite esencial de Clavo ∙ Aceite esencial de Citronela ∙ Aceite esencial de Lavanda ∙ Agua desmineralizada ∙ Glicerina ∙ Recipiente con rociador ∙ Revolvedor Organic repellents (as their name indicate) are made of plants that, after going through a special extraction process, become essential oils. As long as they come from a safe place, these essential oils usually contain many beneficial properties which makes them perfect ingredients for making organic repellents. To prepare your very own organic repellent, the ingredients you need are fortunately easily accessible in any supermarket or department store. There are many essential oils that contain properties that help repel insects, the most common and most used are; citronella, clove, eucalyptus, basil, rosemary, lavender, cedar, among others.

YOU WILL NEED:

• Alcohol • Clove essential oil • Citronella essential oil • Lavender essential oil • Demineralized water • Glycerin • A sprayer • A mixer

PASOS / STEPS

1. En un envase medidor vierte 50 ml de alcohol. Eso ayudará a los aceites esenciales a diluirse de manera correcta y funcionará como un fijador.

1. First, pour 50 ml of alcohol into a measuring cup. That will help the essential oils dilute correctly, and will also work as a setter.

2. Agrega de 10 a 15 gotitas de aceite esencial de clavo.

2. Add 10 to 15 drops of clove essential oil.

3. Agrega de 10 a 15 gotitas de aceite esencial de lavanda.

4. Agrega el aceite esencial de citronela, de 20 a 25 gotitas ya que este es el compuesto más importante de la receta. Si tienes más aceites esenciales en tu casa y te gustaría agregarlos a la mezcla, ahora es el momento.

4. Add 20-25 drops of citronella essential oil, since this is the most important ingredient in this recipe. If you have more essential oils at home and you would like to add them to the mix, now is your chance.

5. Deja reposar la mezcla por 15 minutos revolviendola de vez en cuando para que los olores logren fusionarse con el alcohol, para alcanzar mayor duración.

5. Stir the mix intermittently for 15 minutes so that the aromas fuse with the alcohol, and thus reach a higher duration.

6. Agrega el agua desmineralizada hasta llegar a los 250 ml del envase medidor.

6. Add 250 ml of demineralized water to the mix with the help of your measuring cup.

7. Agrega la glicerina natural, revuelve toda la mezcla por unos 15 minutos más y el repelente orgánico estará listo.

7. Add natural glycerin, mix for about 15 minutes, and your organic repellent will be ready!

8. Por último, debes poner la mezcla en un recipiente con rociador, de preferencia que tenga color ámbar para evitar exceso de rayos solares y conservar mejor la mezcla.

8. Finally, pour your mix into your sprayer, and if possible, make sure your sprayer is amber-colored to help protect the mix from sunlight so it can be better conserved.

Una vez que te hayas aplicado el repelente, la duración será aproximadamente de dos horas como máximo. Y lo podrás utilizar dentro del próximo año como límite de caducidad recomendada. Once you apply this repellent, it will have a duration of effectiveness of about two hours. We also recommend that you use it over the course of one year and that after one year you consider any leftover repellent as "expired", and make a brand new batch to replace it.
