a special message A long journey started in 2014, when our school hosted the first Model United Nation in Venice. A great work has been done since: I am proudly amazed when I think that FOSCAMUN has so improved and become more important. I feel an incredible sense of satisfaction when I think I have been part of this big project since the very first step: I’ve been observing the energy which every single student has put into this event, the sacrifices which every one of us has made, the distance we have already made. It is a great honour for me today to be here and wish all the students involved a “break a leg”. To Silvia Pelucchi, from Secretary General to Secretary General, it is
“it will all turn out well. How? We both know it is a mystery”.
a tradition to say:
Don’t worry, you have done a wonderful job.

great expectations: the participants Foscamun 2016 is starting today, on February the 26th. Our favorite project is finally beginning and we are all really excited. In the last few weeks, this has been our main conversation topic, and, since we would like to know what the participants think about the "biggest event of the year" and what they expect from it we decided to shortly interview chairs and delegates. We had a conversation with the president of DISC, Emily Redolfi Tezzat, who has been a delegate last year and, is in love with this project since then. This year she wants her commission to experience strong emotions as those she
“It’s a powerful experience”
felt as a delegate. said also Laura Manfrin, president of WFP. The delegates who are taking part to a MUN for the first time told us they are really excited to be participating in it; they hope this will help them to learn a lot of things about the current world situation. They are looking forward to get to know students from other countries and start new friendships with them. Orlando Bryon told us that he thinks this is a really important project, both for our school and for young people like us. All the students we interviewed wanted to improve their knowledges and to have the opportunity to grow up and discuss interesting topics. They believe in the importance of culture and are prepared to do their best. They expect that during Foscamun they will solve important issues affecting the whole world and they are willing to try to understand others countries’ perspectives. At the end, they definitely will be proud of themselves,
feel “more diplomatic” and more prepared to understand the international situation like the moderator of DISC commission, Marta Pelizzaro, says. Students from Australia, America and Mexico have arrived at our school over the past few days. We spoke with some of them: their schools started to work with the aim of establishing a good friendship and they all think this will be a really meaningful experience, helping them to grow up. Foscamun will also be a cultural experience for them – they love Italy and, of course, Veniceand are looking forward to exploring it! We are very excited too and we wish good luck to everyone!

great expectations: the coordinators The Foscamun event has been hosted at our school for three years and we can now proudly inaugurate the third edition of the Model United Nations. Lately, all the people involved in this project - from delegates to “systems” - have been feling excitement (and a little bit of anxiety), and are now ready to start these three days at their best, feeling that they will be unforgettable. Each year liceo Foscarini tries to outdo itself by organising an even better MUN with the aim to make it perfect, helped by lots of willing and responsible students, teachers and generous sponsors. We asked some of the organisers to share with our readers their opinions and expectations, starting from the secretary general Silvia Pelucchi and deputy secretary Ludovico Calvetti, who have been working to coordinate the delegates and the general management of this project. They stated: “Our expectations are actually fairly good, we are proud of the delegates; this year they worked really hard, they were more present and stayed at school until late in the evening to learn how to do their best. They are also really enthusiastic about the project. This year we took a chance by adding a committee, but it payed off and went quite smoothly. There’s also more “MUN spirit” among the participants and we’re really happy about that.” Then we interviewed Jacopo Gubert, head of the “systems”, a group of volunteer students supervising reception, security, photography, catering, press, audio/video and the organisation of spaces. “We expect a great event” he said “even better than it was in the past years. We have acquired more experience, and we also have taken contact with more sponsors and received lot of help from the school and the municipality of Venice. Now that we are about to start the event we’ve encountered some tensions and problems but we’re resolving them in the best way”. With such preconditions, we cannot wait to see how this year's MUN will turn out to be.
To all delegates: we wish you the best! Charlotte Scarpa
