LOOKING UP

One of the architectural elements that causes hesitancy is height. The study model illustrates how a user might be hesitant to enter the area due to its height, and as they ascend, they might be unsure of what to expect, so they might take sharp turns to get there because that is the only way to get higher up.

This serves as a staircase leading up to a prayer area, with the entrance on the ground floor, the ablution area on the second level, and the prayer area itself on the top.

EXPOSURE

Openness and exposure are additional architectural features that cause hesitancy. The study model illustrates how a user might pause after entering the area because, from the entrance, it is clear that there is no sense of balance between open and closed spaces—it is all open from beginning to end.

A gym serves as the intended setting for this because there is nowhere to truly hide and one is exposed to many people at once.

LOOKING DOWN

Another architectural feature that causes hesitancy is a change in level. This study’s model illustrates how a user might be hesitant to enter a space because they are unsure of what is below them. The model works from top to bottom, so the user would descend without knowing where they were going, making it more difficult to escape.

The function of this is to allow access from the top entrance to a bank vault, a room for one-on-one meetings in the middle, and a bank vault underground.

SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS

BRIEF:

ASSERTATION REQUIREMENTS

Utilizing the negative or grey spaces to create cozy, social, and interactive areas that promote mental health rather than deteriorate it is important because the UAE is full of formalities. Whereas the outdoors will be enclosed, indoor spaces will be exposed.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The main office for the 40 Member States in the area is required. a large conference room with seating for many people simultaneously a floor reserved only for staff Security and crime prevention fair and crime prevention awareness campaign exhibition 200 people each for the café and bookshop

CLIENT: CCPCJ

Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice :

The main policy-making body for criminal justice and crime prevention at the UN. Additionally, they provide member states (40 members) with a forum for exchanging knowledge, experience, and information in order to create national and international strategies and determine the top criminal justice priorities. network of programs (PNI). The network was created to help the international community improve its CPCJ-related cooperation. Its members offer a range of services, such as information sharing, research training, and public education. Their objective is to advocate for global criminal justice and crime prevention policies that are more effective.

DESIGN CHARRETTES

The general definition of hesitation is something that prevents you from acting or the worry that you will choose the wrong thing, which causes you to stop and consider your options.

defining various hesitations on the subject of intervention

- FEAR

Fear can be induced by changes in levels or excessive exposure.

- WAITING

Because there isn’t a residential building on the site to transport users from the metro station to their respected private spaces, users frequently wait for their bus, taxi, uber, or boat. Interactive waiting areas may help to activate the site by allowing visitors to interact with other visitors or the interventions. For nearby employees to relax and socialize, this space can also be used as a social space to unwind and have fun.

- LEISURE/AMENITIES

Because there is little to no access to food and beverages, the site is very open and large and is exposed to a lot of sun, having amenities on the site will result in that feeling of relief and positive hesitancy. As a public space that creates a levitated space for refreshments and the ability to take in the waterfront view while relaxing, elevators would be used to access these.

- UNFAMILIAR/UNKNOWN

Different architectural elements give the impression of being unfamiliar. Creating something that users are not familiar with would trigger hesitation

METRO EXIT THROUGH BUILDING

Creating different architecture elements as the exits of the metro going through the building creates the senses of unfamiliarity, as the standards is the pedestrian bridge to leave the metro itself and then maybe access a building right outside it from the ground but here metro users would have to go inside the building to enter and exit through the building and then outside. Creating something that users are not familiar with would trigger hesitation

ACCESS THROUGH RAMP/ STAIRCASE

Creating different architecture elements as the exits of the metro creates the senses of unfamiliarity, as the standards is usually an elevator or a escalator to exit from the metro. Creating something that users are not familiar with would trigger hesitation

SPATIAL RELATIONSHIP AREA SCHEDULE

Jaddaf Creek is where the site is located. The plot is almost empty, with only a single business or trading building on one side and a loose, open area with a few level changes on the other. Although there fails to be much traffic at the site, it can still be reached via abra (boat), car, subway, and pedestrians.

The site can be easily navigated via a variety of accessibility methods, thus my design will be more constrained because my verb, hesitate, will operate in opposition to what is already present on the site. It is at the end of the Metro line (green) and serves a specific purpose, such as boat and marine repair. There is little to do in the region other than change between different forms of transportation. For instance, people who use the Abra may need to take the metro or bus later to get home because the residential area is in the stations before the creek station. In spite of the fact that it is already a well-known location, few people spend much time at Creek, with the exception of when they have to travel to the library, which is located much farther from the metro. In order to activate the place using my verb, I must use this area, collaborate closely with the metro, and disrupt any current movement there.

PRECEDENCE STUDIES

The design is inspired by the works of Libeskind, the way he has evoked hesitation into his designs using volumes, dramatic exterior designs and working with out of place scales of each function and the interior is overly spacious. To follow the concept of hesitation and revelation with narrow corridors revealing to a wider corridor or a function.

26

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Started from having level changes with for each function and going 4m underground

The level changes with angular walls, different angles on both sides

Each function will also have horizontal level changes between each function and different height for each function and access from metro directly into the building

ENVIRONMENTAL STRATERGIES

PASSIVE DESIGN STRATERGY

CROSS-VENTILATION NATURALLY THERMAL MASS

Tilted walls reduce a lot of sunlight hours keeping the exterior walls automatically much more cooler but the flat roofs are still exposed to a lot of heat gain.

Anglular roof with angluar wall is now shading itself with lower heat gain meaning more windows can be added despite the hot climate. (the office side is shaded from the metro)

A M W A A J

Why Amwaaj?

The word Amwaaj trans ates to the "f ow of cont nu ty" in the ocal Arab c dialect w de y spoken in the UAE We se ected this title for the project because it resonated with our dea of designing and propos ng a mu t purpose build ng that wou d be used pr mar ly for the COP 28 and also for other purposes n the future We therefore felt prudent to draw insp rat on from the icon c Y n Yang g ven that the COP s primary purpose s to address the major energy and cl mate cha lenges throughout the world The un verse s interrelated, especially the natural wor d as shown by the Y n and Yang symbol No positive no open, no c osed no l ght, and no shadow can exist without their corresponding negat ves and thus our Team name - Polar That is what the Y n-Yang symbol itse f represents and that s what inspired our design for Amwaaj

Pro ect Amwaa was envisioned in mind w th the a m of bridging the des gn language that pans accross the Jaddaff Waterfront The Single story comp ex structure encompasses the form and f ow of a tear and waves It was designed keep ng n mind that the bui d ng w ll a m towards an extremely susta nable approach while ma nta n ng the Emirati Sha abi sty e of the Jameel Arts Centre as wel as the surround ng water body
