Hello readers, ‘Tis’ the month that autumn well and truly sets in and I think Manchester really comes alive with colour. In fairness, we’ve learnt how to cope pretty well with the weather, which is evident in the range of amazing outdoor events this month. We will be stuffing our faces at the Food and Drink Festival, getting engrossed in musical conversation at Un-Convention and In The City and laughing our socks off at The Comedy Festival. Thanks to everyone who has been logging onto the new website www.largemanchester.com. It’s getting a battering with hits and that’s what we like so let us know your thoughts. The Great British Pub

A+ for The B Lounge

The Lass O’Gowrie on Charles Street, has been recognised as one of the most entertaining pubs in the country at the Great British Pub Awards 2010 - known as ‘the Oscars’ of the pub industry.

One of our favourite venues in Manchester, The B Lounge up at Piccadilly has fought off stiff competition to be named winner of the North West’s Best Bar None Pub category in a prestigious awards ceremony held in September.

The panel of judges were suitably impressed after coming for a visit in August. In the end, The Lass O’Gowrie came a close runner up with a London bar stealing the top spot – boo! The pub has become an entertainment hub after influence from general manager Lisa Davies who has a drama school background. Lisa felt it was important to keep customers entertained so the venue has a packed schedule of comedy nights, live music and even a baking competition. The team even put on their own three-week LassFest festival each year in the transformed 40 seat theatre upstairs – far removed from your bog-standard pub with footy on TV! L

The venue which faces the Malmaison hotel, offers a traditional English menu with a sophisticated twist, and has won the Manchester public over with its extensive drinks menu and regular live music. The B Lounge is part of an independently owned group sitting alongside its sister venues The Bridge on Deansgate and Blue Parrot Bar and Grille on Portland Street. Best Bar None is a national awards scheme aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol within licensed premises. Company Director Keith Flanagan said, “We certainly never expected to be declared a winner, but are absolutely delighted with the result and see it as a massive achievement!.” L

In a UK first, five multi-million pound academy buildings have opened, two of which are newly established schools for Manchester and the first new secondary schools in the city for 25 years.

The Manchester Communication Academy in Harpurhey will specialise in digital communication, languages and drama, The East Manchester Academy in Beswick will focus on environment and performing arts, and The Co-operative Academy of Manchester in Blackley has been totally transformed from previously being the Plant Hill Arts College. The Manchester Health Academy in Wythenshawe will be specialising in everything related to health (medicine, nursing and technical health services), The Manchester Enterprise Academy in Wythenshawe is a £19m school specialising in enterprise and Burnage Media and Arts College and Park View Community School are two further education centres opening soon. The academies offer new ways of educating young people with a

focus on business skills. All students have personal mentors as well as benefitting from considerable investment in IT provisions. Long gone are dinner tickets. At the new schools you’ll find a biometric thumb print activated lunch payment system – ooh how times have changed! L

Reservoir Pups

It may seem far too early to be thinking about 2011 but it will be here before we know it and one of our favourite festivals will be back. Not Part Of is a seventeen day festival in summer 2011 showcasing poets, plays, dance acts, music and comedy. Prior to the main event, the organisers hold Not Part of NYE (this year on 15th January and in its 5th year) which is a microcosm of the summer festival bringing together the best creative performances from across the North West. To be involved simply email a

short description of your proposed piece to beth@notpartof.org. The festival is a true celebration of creativity in Manchester; it’s a festival of collaboration and DIY ethos. The team are holding a special event on Wednesday 13th October at Apotheca in the Northern Quarter, where you can meet the directors, chat about any ideas you may have for inclusion, meet other like-minded artists, build your networks or simply just have a pint. Moho Live Ok, so it’s not new, but this is Moho for 2010. There’s been plenty going on since its recent changing of the guard - a new interior and website have been unveiled, yet the venue ethos intrinsically remains the same; a music venue in Manchester unrivalled for both atmosphere and quality of acts. From the Sugar Hill Gang and Kid British to The Enemy and Sunshine Underground, over the last few years, MoHo has rapidly climbed the ranks to become the place to see a gig in Manchester. Guest appearances are always on the cards and as those of you who’ve already frequented the venue will know, expect to come out feeling very hot and sticky. Last month we held a special Large Social in conjunction with IntaFood where readers got involved in a Thai cooking course. Held at the Royal Orchid (the venue was the second Thai restaurant to open in Manchester 22 years ago!), readers were taught how to make a Thai salad and a traditional Thai green curry. Making the salad dressing and curry paste from fresh ingredients was tough going but lots of fun was had then everyone sat down to tuck into the fruits of their labour at the end of the evening for a celebratory feed.L

The Manchester Contemporary – 28th to 31st October Not to be confused with the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, The Manchester Contemporary has just announced 12 galleries that will be participating at the event held at Spinningfields.

All exhibitors have to apply to be part of the fair and with a tough selection process, it’s guaranteed to be a high quality and diverse event. This year, the addition of Great Northern Graduates will showcase the best from the year’s creative degree courses. All visitors are encouraged to spend their time really getting to grips with the work, chatting to the makers and learning the stories behind the goods, giving an insight into how much work goes into each piece and allowing visitors to buy direct from the maker.

Amongst the twelve galleries taking part, two are based in Manchester, Bureau and The International 3. This year’s art fair will be a little different; rather than booth spaces, each of the participating galleries will be given an open area producing an exhibition design that will give precedence to the presentation of the art. Coupled with the artistic displays informative talks will give audiences advice on starting and developing an art collection.

Confit Leg (£14.50) with pickled red cabbage, fondant potato and Leifmans fruit beer liquor (lots of the dishes are infused with the beer available on the taps). Both cuts of meat were cooked delicately, allowing the exceptional quality of them to really come through the dish.

Where? Not really the new kid on the block anymore, Taps has proved itself to be one of Manchester’s most unique drinking haunts with its pour-yourown-beer philosophy but in equally great measure is their food.

The atmosphere was buzzing with a mix of tux-adorned gents heading off to a glittering awards ceremony, the usual after work crowd and also those who start their weekend on a Thursday. The venue is slick and contemporary whilst still maintaining a cosy edge with their sumptuous booths. To Start With Still in their first year, Taps have evaluated the menu and reworked two clear parts to it: Taps Favourites and A La Carte (a bit ‘posher’ shall we say). To start with I went for the Butternut Squash Risotto Cake (£5.95) with sage and buffalo mozzarella. It was presented beautifully with a perfectly cooked crisp shell. The chunks off mozzarella stuffed inside dripped out as you sliced into the dish. It was good, I just felt it lacked a bit of seasoning and could have benefitted from a burst of flavour. My guest went for the Rare Beef Fillet and Wild Mushroom Risotto Cake

The only disappointment was the red cabbage which was slightly overpowering, taking the emphasis away from the delicious bird that really should have stolen the show. (£7.50) which he said was “one of the best starters I’ve had a long time”. The meat was cooked perfectly and was complimented by the rich, mushroom risotto cake. Moving onto Mains I decided on the Roast Corn Fed Gressingham Chicken Breast, (£12.95) served with crushed new potatoes, spinach, French beans and bourguignon jus. Again, as pretty as a picture when it came to presentation, and the meat was moist and juicy. The sauce was rich, a little too rich for my liking, and the dish actually came with a baby onion, smoked bacon and mushroom side serving which for some probably would have been a welcome addition but was too intense for my taste buds with an overwhelming smoky taste to it. My guest went for Seared Gressingham Duck Breast and

Room for anymore? There’s always room for a Sticky Toffee Pudding (£5.50) which was fabulous served with vanilla ice cream. Great atmosphere, great spot for food and drinks, well thought through menu with an emphasis on local produce however the service could have been slicker. There was a good wait on the main dishes but all being said a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had due to the subtle blend of drinkers and diners, giving that laid back ambience throughout the venue.

Where? Since its emergence in 2001, The Lowry Hotel - Manchester’s first 5* hotel - has become synonymous with all things luxurious. For those of you who haven’t stayed, a drink in the bar is a must for the discerning executive and a day in the spa has become a favourite of all the ladies that lunch. The restaurant itself is occupied by a varied crowd. There are the business delegates, the uber-romantic couple seeking seclusion and the friends catching up on old times. To Start With Described by the fabulous River Bar and Restaurant Manager as ‘Modern European’, the food sounded exquisite and I hoped it tasted as good as I perused both the

daily and a la carte menus. I opted for the flamboyantly priced but well crafted a la carte menu. As a fish lover, I was pleased to see such a variety of fish, all seasonal thankfully. I opted for the Native Lobster Ravioli with buttered spinach and shell fish bisque (£12.50), which was - to my relief - just as good as it sounds. The ravioli pasta was soft and the lobster meat slightly sweet and perfectly complimented by the accompanying bisque. For me, slightly too much bisque came with the ravioli but it certainly didn’t impede my enjoyment. My guest opted for the Goats Cheese Mousse ginger cake crisps with raspberry and beetroot puree (£9.50). The ginger crisp delivering a slight heat that worked perfectly with the rich mousse.

Moving onto Mains Having decided that Dover Sole was too good an opportunity to miss, I had mine grilled, served with Jersey Royals and hollandaise (£32.50). As you’d expect from a restaurant of this calibre, the fish was de-boned at the table at my request. The fish was stunning. It was light and fresh and not overly done, the hollandaise and jersey royals provided a richer dimension to the plate. I was left full and very pleased with my choice. My guest had the Cheshire Beef fillet with truffle and herb crust, braised baby onion and spinach puree (£25.75). It arrived cooked to absolute perfection, the meat fresh and succulent. The crust didn’t fare as well, sadly it was slightly on the soggy side, but upon further investigation it did taste good with a hint of truffle coming through in the aftertaste.

The food at The River Bar restaurant isn’t innovative risqué dining; it is elegant, decadent and relaxed. If the a la carte menu is a special meal out around pay day, the chefs specials menus at only 3 courses for £15 (this may have changed at time of going to press) is a solid bet for anytime of the month. There’s also sushi available in the bar, as well as long relaxing afternoon teas, Sunday Lunch and the latest addition in October of Saturday Brunch. www.thelowryhotel.com L

The Edinburgh Festival is over and it’s back to the reality of Manchester. Well, I say reality. Being a comedian, I work for twenty minutes a day and slouch about in my pants the rest of the time. Which I guess is pretty close to the reality of being a student, meaning I fit in pretty well in Fallowfield. Apart from the fact that I’m 24 and can’t quite hack the lifestyle of a student any more. My poor body is suffering the effects of beer and Ginsters. I’ll summarise – I’m fat. Not spherical, but beerbellied. Proper beer-bellied, mind. The kind of beer belly that also has folds above it, like the eyebrows of a frowning old man. I didn’t realise how bad the situation had got until a mate came up to me the other day, poked me in the aforementioned eyebrow-folds, and announced “Sam, you look like you’re getting a cuddle from a midget.” However, I’ve devised a clever dieting method to sort myself out. Every time I see a student in Manchester and can’t figure out if they’re in fancy dress, pyjamas or their normal clothes, I’ll do a star-jump when I get home.

Stylish shoppers in Manchester? Cityco, Manchester’s city centre management company has announced a new marketing campaign ‘Manchester – Heart of Fashion’ focused on the fashionable heart of the city centre. The campaign is aimed at attracting more people to our city for a shopping spree and will see a series of fashion-focused events take place to tempt the style-conscious shopper. Keep your eyes peeled for the 68-page style guide to the city centre that will be available for free from the Manchester Visitor Information Centre. The guide will showcase the highlights of Manchester’s city centre shopping experience, listing more than 200 stores, independent shops

and boutiques, and will also include a helpful section on food, drink, hotels and culture. At the centre of the campaign is the opening of The Avenue in Spinningfields, the newest destination for luxury retailing in Manchester. Many of the city’s biggest retailers including Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Selfridges will be holding their own fashion events in collaboration with the campaign, including a Best of Manchester fashion awards celebrating the talents of young designers and independent retailers in the city. In The City Festival – 13th to 15th October Established back in 1992 by Tony Wilson and Yvette Livesey, In The City has established itself as Europe’s premier music conference. The festival promoted the need for innovative and forward-thinking answers in the music industry and the aim of the event is to bring together the most fearless minds in the creative industries to provide the answers to these questions. Now in its 19th year, In The City has seen now-legendary gigs by artists such as Oasis in 1992, The Chemical Brothers with a gig at Jabez Clegg in 1995 and Coldplay at Cuba Cafe back in 1997. Since its birth, the festival has been a significant

stepping-stone in the careers of Radiohead, Suede, The Darkness, Doves, Foo Fighters, Elbow, Stereophonics, Muse, The Verve, Badly Drawn Boy, Bjork, Maximo Park, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, Snow Patrol and many more. Tickets for the live shows, In The City Live and In The City Unsigned are now on sale at £29 for the three nights. After a year spent globe-trotting, Un- Convention is coming back to Salford with what promises to be the biggest and best event set over three days. Un-Convention is a global grassroots music event that meets physically and virtually to share ideas and discuss. Unconventional settings such as Salford Lads Club will be used to explore new and cutting edge issues surrounding music, technology and creativity.

The Ting Ting’s The Ting Ting’s hit the music scene back in 2007 and have since had a whirlwind three years of gigging, playing on every continent across the world, and bringing their eclectic sound to new ears.

Large caught up with Katie from the band. She’s tired, had back-toback interviews all day and suffered the extent of the Tube strikes in London but as soon as she hears a Manchester accent she immediately brightens up and starts talking a million miles a second. The Ting Ting’s have a new single out soon ‘Hands’, so we find out what’s been happening to the dynamic duo. How’s life for Jules and Katie now? Slightly less busy at the moment, but it feels like the calm before the storm. We’ve had two manic years, it’s been so full-on but with the new single out now I expect it will go back to being crazy.

Do you spend much time in Manchester? I had two weeks here at Christmas, which should have been nice, but I was in hospital with exhaustion but at least I had my mum with me and I

I was going to ask about Islington Mill, aside from there, where are your favourite hangouts in Manchester? We lived there and we hung out with all the other artists in the Mill so we rarely left, we just used to have loads of parties there dancing about between ourselves! We’d often just have so much fun we wouldn’t make the short trip from Salford to Manchester, it was just nice to be around other creative and inspirational people. Where did you play your first gigs? We actually played three gigs in our living room which got really talked about and loads of press coverage and we played an intimate gig at The Rovers Return on Chapel Street, which was cool. I prefer the intimate gigs. After that we played the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury. Your new album is described as having a different sound to ‘We Started Nothing’, how was the production process different?

It’s still my voice, I still sing the same and we approached it in the same way, but we’re different people two years later so that changed things. We started listening to people like Nancy Sinatra and Fleetwood Mac and that comes through on the album. We were making the album in Berlin and Mike Pickering (ex-M People and The Ting Ting’s A-&-R guy) said he wouldn’t come to Berlin because it was too cold, so we were left to do it ourselves so we could experiment more, but we kept it song-based. What’s your favourite place you’ve played a gig? Glastonbury’s been great for us because we played there first on the BBC Introducing stage to 75

people, then in 2009 we played to thousands, so personally it was amazing to see how we’ve developed in two years. We also played a gig at this place called Club West Germany in Berlin which is an old doctor’s surgery, a strange but fun place to play. Another gig we played in Jakarta and we had no idea the crowd would know our songs but they were so sweet singing away. Can we expect a tour in the coming months? After Christmas we’ll be touring. We’ve got ‘Hands’ out soon and then we’re releasing another track off the album. We’re doing it the old fashioned way, two tracks then the album early 2011, then the tour so lots of rehearsing in between. L

We had a catch up with lead singer Z Berg (other band members are Tennessee Thomas, Laena Geronimo and Annie Monroe) about their latest gig in Manchester and playing ping-pong with none other than Arctic Monkey’s. Hey Z, for all the Large readers who don’t know much about The Like, tell us who you are... Well we were a three but now we’re a four as we’ve just got a new organist, Annie, and we’re The Like, from the US and the UK so we are an international group you could say! How was your gig on Friday at The Ruby Lounge? Oh it was awesome, we love Manchester and let me tell you, the Manchester crowd are hard to beat! You guys are really fun folk! Did you manage to have a nosey around the city whilst you were here? Yeah a little, we had a look at a few record shops, we like to see the cities that we play in (Large points out that they would love the Northern Quarter which is where Z thinks they had a wander around).

You’ve just finished a tour with Arctic Monkey’s in the States. Did you understand their Northern accents? It was hard to understand them sometimes but the accents grow on you. They are seriously nice boys though. We had a ping-pong table on tour and we played so many tournaments! The food though in the UK is tough for me, I’m vegan (Large points out that in the UK we’re still pretty hot on meat) I think Tennessee is happy though (Tennessee is the UK born member of the group) as she’s happy to be back eating British food every day. I see you’re really active on Facebook and Twitter, do you read your comments regularly? I’m not great with the internet/ Facebook thing really but it’s a great way to communicate as fans can interact with you. It’s crazy, we meet fans at shows then they tweet the next day and it’s amazing how fast the word can spread.

You’ve just played Reading and Leeds festivals, how was that? Yeah we played there four years ago so it was great to be back and we had so much fun. We played a festival in Singapore and one in Korea, those festivals are a really different vibe to British festivals (Large wonders why) just different... it’s safe to say those guys like to clap! 41

Your new album has been produced by Mark Ronson – how was it working with him? We worked with Mark and a team of others and we literally had two weeks to make the album including mixing and editing so it was a very intense and creative experience. We recorded it like they used to do in the older days, we worked on instinct.

Do you think you’ve created a better sound by doing this? Definitely. Until we found Mark we always wanted to make an album this way but didn’t know how to do it. It’s no surprise that all my favourite records were created this way, without serious technology. It makes a more honest and raw sound that suits our songs better.

You and Tennessee formed the band at 15, which is a very impressionable age. What led you down this road rather than following pop bands of the time? I think my parents brainwashed me into this type of music. At 15 I didn’t know there were any bands other than The Beatles. So what’s next for The Like, when will you be back in the UK? Well, we are finishing the UK tour shortly then it’s back to the US for a tour there and then over to Europe. We just want to get bigger and hopefully when we come back we’ll get more time to explore Manchester and see it better. L

Which comedians have caught your eye recently? Who should we be looking out for?

Bill Ellis is a good local prospect, very unique. He has a shambolic style of comedy which reminds me of Johnny Vegas in his early days and Sam Gore (Large’s resident male columnist) who is on his way to winning just about every new comedian of the year award going.

Badgering away behind the scenes on the comedy circuit in Manchester - but no less credible - are people like Lee Martin, General Manager at The Frog and Bucket. The Frog has been going for fifteen years, going to show how much Mancunians appreciate their comedy. We chatted to Lee about how the comedy scene has developed up north and his memorable moments; Thinking back to the glory days of Steve Coogan, Caroline Aherne, Peter Kay, how do you think the comedy scene in Manchester has changed?

It goes in cycles, when I started Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Caroline Aherne were really in the golden period which was great for Manchester and great for the Frog as they all played here. Then it quietened down, big stars weren’t being produced but then from 2005 it’s been on the up again with people like Jason Manford, Dan Knightingale. Stand-up is more popular that it’s ever been. The Frogs just opened two new venues, one in Wigan one in Preston which is testament to the fact comedy is still popular.

What’s been your most memorable show of all time? About 5 or 6 years ago we had John Bishop on here and he was headlining a weekend show. It was a really rowdy crowd and he just got up and started singing the theme tune to ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. The crowd were totally lost wondering what the hell he was doing. Next thing he said “Sorry, my mate just bet me £20 that I wouldn’t come up here to sing this but I’ve won the bet.” He then introduced his mate who was none other than Johnny Vegas. Live Entertainment – Manchester Comedy Festival

We caught up with two big names on the comedy circuit to find out more.

Manchester comedian, writer, radio presenter and actor Justin Moorhouse is preparing for a special one-off show at the Opera House in Manchester on the 8th of October. The performance brings together the best of his “Boiled Egg on the Beach” show from the Edinburgh Festival and other material from the last two years. Large Manchester caught up with Justin ahead of the Opera House show for a quick chat.

Growing, up which comedians made you laugh? Loads really, Mike Harding, Jasper Carrott, Billy Connolly, Bob Monkhouse, most of the great comedians from the 70’s. Then Rik Mayall and the Young Ones in the early 80’s, I love comedy. These days I love people who do things a bit different, people like Steve Royle who does comedy and juggles. Andrew Ryan - he’s good, Al Murray and Jimmy Carr - he always makes me laugh.

As a Manchester United supporter, what was it like working alongside Eric Cantona in “Looking for Eric” and how was it working with Ken Loach? Meeting Cantona was a dream come true, meeting an idol is sometimes a letdown but Cantona was a really nice fella. Working with Ken Loach was one of the best experiences of my career. I don’t consider myself a real actor but Ken manages to get great performances out of non-actors like me.

Before stand-up you were a salesman. What did you sell and did your experiences influence your comedy? The simple answer to that is “not a lot”. I worked in transport, I was good at interviews and getting the job but not so good at the selling. I suppose the main thing I learnt was where all the best service stations are, which ones don’t rip you off and also how to sit around the house all day in my pants, which is good training if you want to go into comedy!

Will United reclaim the title from Chelsea and can City ever become the no.1 club in Manchester? Simple this one yes and no! I suppose City could with all the money they have but I think they’ve a long way to go; they’ll never be no.1 in my heart!

Is the show at The Opera House a chance for Manchester to see The Boiled Egg on the Beach show you did in Edinburgh? Yes most of it, Boiled Egg on the Beach is an hour long. The Manchester show also has the best bits from the last two years and is

about an hour and a half. It’s a oneoff homecoming show ahead of a tour planned for the spring in 2011. As part of show you have a game that tests what class a person is, what two questions can you ask a person to determine their class? 1. Do you buy the Radio Times at any other time of the year but Christmas? 2. Do you have balsamic vinegar in the cupboard? Best meal out in Manchester? Simon Rimmer’s place in Hale is great, also San Carlo. I like This ‘n’ That in the Northern Quarter; I’ve not been for a while but love their ‘Rice and Three’. Best pub in Manchester? The Northern, the best pub in the world! And finally who got the chop the puppy, or the iPad? (check Justins website) I’ve kept them both and stroke both of them on a regular basis! Day two of the Great Exercise Challenge

On hearing about the class (held in a studio heated to 40 degrees Celsius) my first reaction was... are you insane? But with some persuasion and the encouragement of several converts who described it as "life-changing" and "euphoric", I decided to throw caution to the wind. The sight of thirty bright-red yoga-ites sweating profusely as they left the class before definitely didn't make me feel any better, but the teacher was enthusiastic and sensitive to newcomers, as were the friendly fellow learners. A series of 26 postures began with some warm-up exercises, which left me wondering what I was worrying about. However, this soon notched up a gear and after 20 minutes there was some serious sweat rolling off every inch of skin. It all became clear why most of the people in the room were wearing just shorts or lightweight gym outfits, and the mixture of standing

and lying down poses had me puffing in no time. To be honest, I didn't feel euphoric after my first session, but I did feel cleansed and relaxed, with skin 100-times smoother and glowing like a starlet at the Oscars. It hasn't changed my life yet, but I'm definitely going to go back and give it one more overheated chance. Happy 10th Birthday

After the devastating effects on Manchester after the bombing of 1996, an opportunity was identified to utilise the Withy Grove printing complex that had lay dormant for years into Europe’s first Urban Entertainment complex. The Printworks was born, and in November it celebrates its tenth birthday. It opened with an ear-splitting bang on 9th November with Sir Alex Ferguson cutting the red tape and none other than Lionel Richie performing to a 4000 strong crowd. In its short ten years, it’s evolved considerably with new additions coming onboard and now at 100% occupancy expects to see 10 million people walk through its doors in 2010.

Large chatted to The Printworks Centre Director Fred Booth to find out what the future has in store for this monumental part of the Manchester leisure scene. What are your most memorable events when you look back on the last ten years? The World premiere of Hitch with Will Smith was just fantastic. Will was phenomenal, a real A-list star, and so genuine he really blew us all away. He was doing three premiers in one day with ours being the first, and he had 15 minutes to get from the car to the cinema. 45 minutes later he was still shaking hands with people in the crowd! Another memorable occasion was Brooklyn Beckham’s birthday party in The Gallery at the Odeon where many members of the United squad had their cars towed away.

The official opening of Hard Rock Cafe will always stick in my mind too. Duran Duran headlined the event, and they had just recently reformed after a considerable break so there was a huge buzz surrounding that. There’s been so many, we’ve been lucky to host some fantastic events here but one that really brought the crowds in was back in 2001 when The Printworks turned into The Pinkworks for Mardi Gras and we had 10,500 people here. New tenants have just opened in the centre that are independently owned establishments, what does the future hold for The Printworks? Over time we’ve worked hard to establish ourselves as a destination venue for lots of different types of groups. We’ve taken the step to introduce independents such as Papa G’s, Wasabi and Dockers, and they have worked really well alongside the big brands that everyone knows. The plan is to continue where ever

It’s official: Summer’s over. I had to put the heating on yesterday. As I wearily reached for the thermostat suddenly long dark nights and big heating bills stretched before me and I felt a longing for the summer that we never quite had. It’s not all gloomy as I recently jetted off to Lake Garda for my friend Katie’s (amazing, not that I’m jealous or anything) wedding. My gal pal Erin and I decided that one way of injecting some hilarity would be to to learn the language.
