Being gay is confusing. There’s no right or wrong way to be gay. However, we have to find out what we want on our own because we don’t grow up in a predominantly gay world. Once we break the norm, and find comfortability within our own sexuality, everything else is up for debate. Who do we want to be? Who do we want to date? Do we want to get married? Do we want kids? Do we want to be monogamous? All the “normal” expectations of our straight counterparts are a lot less expected, and we find ourselves craving the single life one day, and looking for the love of our life the next.

J U S T G OT A L I T T L E M O R E FA B U LO U S Very soon the Winter Olympics will begin in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and feature that rarest of species — an openly gay male Olympian.
Adam Rippon, a 28-year-old figure skater, will be the first openly gay man to compete for the United States in the Winter Olympics.
This February, a global audience will get the chance to know Rippon, who’s built a reputation as an unapologetic, highly entertaining skater.
Olympian Gus Kenworthy, a freestyle skier, who came out in 2015, is not shy from being a gay role model — in fact he welcomes it. The thought of being the first openly gay male ever to compete in the Winter Olympics is something Kenworthy totally embraces.
Despite a disappointing fourth-place performance at the U.S. figure skating championships, Rippon was selected to join Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou in Pyeongchang.
When asked in an interview ... “what was it like being a gay athlete in sports?” Rippon’s response was “it’s exactly like being a straight athlete... only with better eyebrows.”
This shows that Kenworthy and Rippon realize the importance of out LGBT elite athletes, of which there are still so few. It also shows that an athlete can still be highly successful and focused on their sport while also seeing the big picture.
Despite the gain in LGBTQ representation this winter, the Olympics contend with a dearth of openly queer athletes. The U.S. hasn’t sent an openly gay man to the Summer Olympics in 14 years — since equestrians Robert Dover and Guenter Seidel competed in 2004.
Hopefully joining Kenworthy, and, making sure he will not be the only gay male Olympian in Pyeongchang, is Canadian pairs figure skater, Eric Radford.

Saturday, January 20, saw protesters take to the streets from New York to Los Angeles — from Nigeria to Iraq. Various incarnations of the second annual Women’s March demanded social change, promoted female empowerment and declared a resistance to President Trump on the anniversary of his inauguration. With Saturday’s worldwide turnout, you could be forgiven for forgetting that, in fact, Sunday marks one full year since the original Women’s March. Sunday January 21 on it’s anniversary, the Woman’s March organizers made a conscious choice about where to host their flagship anniversary event, it made sense to host the event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
congressional elections in November. Nevada was chosen for its status as a “battleground state that will shape the Senate in 2018,”. Sunday’s event is meant to be the beginning of a national voter registration effort across 10 states, with the goal of registering at least one million people. Sunday’s event was not a march, but a rally, beginning at 10 a.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. The Stadium can hold 40,000, planners expected roughly 17,000. Woman’s March planners are less concerned with crowd size than with spreading their message. Thousands filed into the stadium under clear skies.

The Las Vegas rally, while one of the most prominent of the day, was not the only Women’s March event planned for Sunday, they were many other marches planned throughout the country, making this day a very important day for everyone

GUESS WHO’S BACK IN LAS VEGAS! By Briana Lake
In the world of pop entertainment, there are few names as immediately recognizable as Ricky Martin’s. This isn’t solely due to his immense talent, multiple GRAMMY awards, or repeat platinum records; the Puerto-Rican heart-throb has also become known as an icon for the LGBTQ community through his long-time advocacy for marriage equality, and public coming-out announcement in 2010. Ricky has also been credited with helping to breach the gap to the US charts for many Latin-American artists, and with birthing the huge Latin-music US Billboard takeover of the early 2000’s, but he’s hardly stopping there; with his recent announcement of a much-anticipated residency at the brand-new Park Theatre at Monte Carlo, Ricky will be bringing a true legend within arms-reach of his devoted fans and checking another accomplishment off of his professional checklist, all while delicately balancing fame, philanthropy, and fatherhood. The Superstar has performed more than ten studio albums to countless sold-out stadiums, and his career has spanned his entire lifetime, starting with his childhood boy-band, Menudo. It seems only fitting that Ricky should grace the strip as the Pop Star’s history with Vegas started when he was twelve years old; Ricky has essentially been laying the groundwork for a Vegas residency this entire time, and he could not be more excited, declaring in a recent statement “I’m extremely excited to have my residency in Las Vegas; I have been thinking about it for years and to see it become a reality is just an unbelievable feeling…” The star’s elation didn’t stop there, and during his interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where Ricky first announced his move to Vegas, Ricky was visibly excited as he practically shouted the news to Ellen DeGeneres, smiling from ear to ear while pounding his fist on his chair and proclaiming ‘I’m going to be in Vegas, I have a residen-

Ricky will be joining the ranks of Mega-Stars to announce Vegas residencies including greats such as Jennifer Lopez, Backstreet Boys, Boyz II Men, and Brittney Spears. Martin’s joy is no doubt partially due to the fact that a residency schedule will also provide the time to focus on his humanitarian efforts with the Ricky Martin Foundation, his impressive acting ability, and his growing family. Ricky broke quite a few hearts earlier this year with the news of his proposal to the gorgeous, Syrian-Swedish Artist, Jwan Yosef, and Martin will be joined in Vegas by his fiancé and two beautiful 9-year-old twin boys, Matteo and Valentino.

Aloha I know many of you are wondering when Hamburger Mary’s Las Vegas is going to be opening. There is a lot going on but I wanted to share the history of the transformation once sole owner Lou Placenicia took over the lease back in 2016. Lou’s main goal is to create a safe haven for everyone in our Las Vegas LGBT community to be proud of. New Year’s 2018 marked his 1 year Anniversary at Flair Nightclub. First the existing building is a very old building built in 1972, most of you weren’t even born yet, it’s a 13,500 square feet monster, with lots of great character and I wish the walls could talk, the things they could tell me. Half of the building is dedicated to “Flair Nightclub” the second half will be Hamburger Mary’s Las Vegas

Hamburger Mary’s Las Vegas owner Lou’s goal is to do all upgrades prior to opening. “I want to do it right and present a premier restaurant. Everything in the kitchen, dish room and bar is brand new. All plumping and electrical is new. We started with just changing out the plumping, then we ended up digging up the entire kitchen floor and replacing everything. Next, we did the ceiling, we need to update our ceilings to code, once we removed the ceilings, we found more problems, lucky Lou, got lucky and found several leaks, this could have been a huge problem if it wasn’t fixed. We also added another AC unit to keep the kitchen/cook area and dressing rooms cool. Summer will be a lot cooler in the kitchen and our entertainers will also be happy. The smoking area in the front of the building also got an upgrade, In case you did not know Mary’s will be a smoke free building, including the patio. We also got all the trees trimmed and looking good. We are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, lots of great improvements are being made, new lighting and a second stage in the dining area are being added, a retail area Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine | 63
