A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Aloha! I hope you all had an amazing Pride. The new venue, the Downtown Event Center was well received, and attendance could not have been better. We saw a 20%+ increase from out of town visitors., All host hotels reported an increase in hotel reservations. All planned events were successful with increase in attendance. Plans are already started for 2020, stay tune for more details as we confirm dates, times and locations This issue we celebrate the “T” in LGBT+. Thank you, Ray from The LGBTQ Center, for helping coordinate the many articles featured in this issue. Every year the contribution of articles grows. It’s always nice to hear from people from our Las Vegas Community and the care and sharing of life is always welcomed. Thank you everyone who shared a little of their journey with us. We all grow wiser with shared knowledge, please enjoy all of the articles. Kaina Jacobs a Hawaiian native, now calls Las Vegas (nicked name the 9th island) home, sat down and chatted about her journey as she shared her story with us. You learn as you grow, and you survive though LOVE and great friends, your family. Transgender Day of Remembrance started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death., This vigil began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. “Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking 8 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine
to erase transgender people, sometimes in the most brutal ways possible, it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.” Each year between November 13 – 19, the week before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20, people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise the visibility of transgender people and address issues the community faces. We are almost at the end of 2019, my how good times just flies by., Before you know it 2020 will be here. AWARENESS IS THE FIRST STEP BI CORNER By Steve Mitchell In October, I attended the annual Out & Equal (O&E) Summit in Washington, DC. Out & Equal is the largest workplace equality organization in the world. The Summit was a sell out this year with 6,500 people in attendance. There were a couple of workshops specifically for the Bi community and I had the privilege of co-facilitating a Bi Roundtable. As it was the last session of a very long day and taking place at 5 pm, I was not expecting a large group. But I was wrong. We had to keep adding chairs. On the one hand it was great to hear about many Fortune 500 companies adding Bi-specific training to the Diversity curriculum. On the other hand, it was sad to hear about the struggles that Bi employees, and Bi people in general, still face in this day and age. From Bi erasure to incorrect assumptions (i.e., 11 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine
that all Bi people are swingers, that Bi people are indecisive), Bi members of the LGBT community are still not accepted or respected as the Gay and Lesbian members of the community are. I find this fascinating as more that 50% of the LGBT community (albeit anonymously) identify as Bi. Some of the unique issues that Bi people face at work include heightened sexual harassment, not trusted by gay and lesbian co-workers, are seen first as a sexual curiosity by straight co-workers, and are seen as unpromotable because they are viewed as indecisive. Additionally, Bi people in same sex relationships are made invisible in their Diversity groups and those in different sex relationships are seen, at best, as allies.
Now compare that to your straight, gay, and lesbian experience (if you are gay, lesbian, or straight). The privileges that come with a monosexual identity include societal assurance that your sexuality is real and that people like you exist, people believe you when you disclose your identity and don’t require you to prove it, it is unlikely that disclosing your sexual identity will be taken as a sexual offer or a sign of consent, and when seen with a partner, you can be certain to be recognized as a member of your sexual identity group. Awareness is a great first step. At least be aware of the unique issue that your Bi friends and co-workers face.

This journey begins on June 16, 1980, in Aiea, Hawaii. Growing up in a very open environment, Kaina always knew there was something different about her. In preschool, playing with her brother and sister, playing house, Kaina always wanted to play the “Mother” role or the “Teacher.” It was either to be in control or to nurture. She also always had an apron or something wrapped around her waist. It was the physical article of clothing that gave Kaina a sense of security. Growing up, she knew she was different, playing in her mother’s closet, playing with her sister’s barbies. Going to the beach on weekends is very common in Hawaii, and Kaina loved the water but never took off her shirt, somewhat knowing, a lady never exposes herself. “I always wrapped my head with a towel after

was never talked about. It was like it did not exist. Back then, no one knew anything about being “Transgender.” Out on her own, Kaina introduced herself to the art of DRAG. Back then, a mixture of “t-girls” and ”butch queens” were very common. Kaina’s first time on stage was magical, she was super nervous, but she knew with more practice and experience, she would be the “T.” There were no rules back then. A performer needed to pick their music, turn in their CD’s, get your hair on point, and paint for the people in the back row. After all of that, all that remained was to entertain the kids like you’re the Queen Bee. Slowly, Kaina made a name for herself and built her fan base. Kaina always knew her role in life, and she knew she needed to move and spread her wings. Missed opportunities would happen staying in Hawaii. Hawaii will always be home, but in order to grow and be all she could be, she needed to move to the mainland. In 2012 Kina moved to Huston to be with her drag mother, Dina Jacobs Under her mother’s wings, Kaina was always protected. It was a huge culture shock, Kania missed her family, Houston was a completely different scene, the Trans sisterhood was different from Hawaii, a lot different. Dina held her hand and provided security and comfort, Houston was necessary, her time there made Kaina focus, she grew up quickly. Now, she was looking for success. Kaina and Dina ended up on different wavelengths, it was time for the mother bird to push baby bird out of the nest. Fly or die is what I like to call it. There needed to be a change. There is still unconditional love, no matter what. Sin City ready or not Kaina is heading your way

Kaina moved to Las Vegas in the Summer of 2013. Summer is the worst time to move to Las Vegas, and she didn’t give the best first impression. It’s a dry heat, but more like home, with many Hawaiians moving to Las Vegas, the city is now called the 9th Island. Kaina connected with one of her Hawaiian sisters. Selena and her
husband Patrick opened their doors and home to Kaina, Kaina now needed to acclimate to Vegas Life. It was a quick vacation and reality hit. Selena pushed Kaina like any sister would, “Girl get a job!”. Kaina’s first real job was at a beauty supply store. This was perfect, you make new friends, meet more people. The drag culture
in Vegas is also very unique, not like anywhere else in the world, but she needed to put herself out there and booked the gigs. Aloha everyone, Kaina is in the house, and she is going to rock your world. Within a week, Kaina met the man of her dreams, which was amazing, and to this day, they are still together. Kaina is a performer, and with performing it becomes effortless, you create memories that last a lifetime Kaina is a former Universal Showgirl, the top title from Hawaii. It is a pageant for the elite and a sisterhood that no other pageant can touch. Kaina loved the pageantry world, but her life took her in other directions. Kaina made a name for herself in the Vegas beauty industry. Many doors opened with different job titles and responsibilities. Now it is 2019, Kaina’s lifelong friend Preston, from Hawaii, took Kaina on a journey with him. Whatever happens, they were going to do it all together, do their best, and have fun. Continental was next for Kaina. She and Preston were ready to create some lifetime memories. Kaina ended up at Nationals and took 1st runner up. That’s not bad for her first time on that stage. Kaina had no clue how this was going to change her life, she made a little splash in a big ocean. Overall “I had fun, made some new friends, first category evening gown, told myself I was born to do this, and this experience was life-changing.” Kaina bit the bug, no promises were made for a repeat, things are still a massive whirlwind for now. Congratulations on your success, I can’t wait to see what you do next. Now let’s go eat some Hawaiian food.

Accessing a Healthier Nevada By Nick Martinez
The ADAP program allows us to assist consumers with their allowable medication costs so that they can be assured they won’t have a lapse in their medication. This program is just one of many services we provide in partnership with Nevada’s Ryan White Programs. AHN was built on the principal of shared responsibility where everyone contributes something and no one group is unduly burdened. The model informs our mission and continues to influence our actions as we evolve within the changing healthcare landscape. As healthcare continues to change, Access to Healthcare Network will change along with it, helping to ensure that Nevadans throughout the state have access to the care they need and deserve. Saving lives and giving Nevadans access to the healthcare they deserve has been our mission since 2007 and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Access to Healthcare Network (AHN) is a local non-profit dedicated to assisting individuals and their families in our community in accessing healthcare services and resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Access to Healthcare Network has a wide range of programs that can help all different aspects of the community. Our organization started in Northern Nevada in 2007 and has since then grown to become a statewide organization serving thousands of Nevadans.
Access to Healthcare Network has been fortunate to be one of the community partners in the state to receive funding to administer several Ryan White Programs. Our funding at Access to Healthcare Network allows us to identify eligible consumers living with HIV/AIDS as well as providing Medical, Dental, Vision, Insurance, & Medical Case Management assistance. Getting Nevadans to an undetectable state is an everyday fight, and one that we at AHN are never going to stop fighting for. Las Vegas is a city of chance; there is always a gamble. For a long time, it didn’t matter what we did. The Las Vegas PRIDE Board took huge risks and gambles each year to host the annual Las Vegas PRIDE Parade and Festival. We moved the location from the Clark County Government Center to Sunset Park in 2016. We reintroduced PRIDE Pets and a kids/family area. These were huge requests from our community. In 2016 people loved that it was back in a park. In 2017 and 2018, attendance remained flat. This 2-day festival needed a reboot. We knew there was something that needed to change, we just couldn’t figure out what the change should be. A date change? A holiday weekend? A new location? Different programing? A lot of ideas were exchanged. The weekend we always wanted, was the same 3-day weekend that the County would host The Renaissance Fair at Sunset Park. Also, the goal was always to try and make Las Vegas PRIDE a destination PRIDE. We were looking to find a way to drive more out of 42 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine
town Pride travelers to Las Vegas. If we wanted that same weekend, we knew we needed a new partner other than the County. Our biggest struggle has always been competing against the one main
attraction that brings millions of guests to our amazing city: The Las Vegas Strip. Every weekend is “Gay in Las Vegas”, with artists like Lady Gaga, Cher, and other amazing headliners. How do you complete against that? Next is cost. We didn’t yet have the budget or sponsorship dollars to support a major headliner. Everyone also has a different opinion on who our headliners should be. It has been very challenging. One successful
weekend could give us the funding to produce a great line-up the following year. Unfortunately, we have only been able to make enough money to cover our expenses; with little to keep as a start-up fund for the following year. October can be a good month to host Las Vegas PRIDE. However, another gamble is the weather. We know we have a very small window for beautiful festival weather; dodging 100+ temperatures and falling temperatures below 60’s at night. In 2017, Saturday evening was chilly. The temperature dropped and so did our numbers. We could not make it up the following Sunday. At the time, we also realized we weren’t big enough for a 2-day festival. In 2018, Sunday was very flat. Disappointment from many of our vendors was felt, some never made enough money to cover their operating cost on Sunday. What were we going to do? Now we believe we found a good recipe. I met up with my buddy Bud Pico from the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center. We had hosted some oneoff events in the past there. I knew that with the rebirth and renovations being done in Downtown, it would attarct many new events. Especially with the success of iHeart and Life is Beautiful.
Next a meet up with the PRIDE Board, to get their thoughts, opinions, and concerns. During the planning, we were told that there was going to be a route change for all Downtown parades. There were concerns of crowd control within the Freemont area by many of the Downtown Casinos, Freemont tenants, and Metropolitan Police Department. New parade routes were
in the plans by the City. Main objective was to not have parades go through the Freemont Experience, which caused many road closures, detours, and traffic problems. A creative change was presented and approved; a new parade route for 2019! The new route would make a left on Bridger Ave and end the parade in front of the new Festival Grounds.
We have hosted our Las Vegas PRIDE Parade Downtown and our numbers have always been strong. Bud and I did a tour of the possible new venue, talked numbers and dates; everything seem promising. I then, reached out to my buddy Jim McMichael from LVCVA. Asked for his opinion on the Columbus Day 3-day weekend and venue change. Could out-of-towners come to Vegas for PRIDE? Everything seemed positive. Here arose an opportunity to change location and have the weekend that we wanted. Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine | 43
Date change, new venue, new parade route: Las Vegas PRIDE threw the dice and took a huge gamble. “Do it big or don’t do it at all” became the motto of the Board this year. It seems Lady Luck was on our side. After many hours of meetings, thousands of emails, countless walk-throughs; the risk paid off. The positive overwhelmed the negative. The rest is now history. We have some ideas for the future. But for the most part, the 2019 Las Vegas PRIDE Parade and Festival were a huge success. Thank you to the many sponsors and partners. Your generosity made this all possible. Las Vegas PRIDE Board: awesome job! To all our volunteers: we couldn’t have done this without you. The goal of our Health for Every Veteran Study is to better understand the experiences of Veterans from all backgrounds and promote their health and well-being, including those with LGBT or related identities. We are especially interested in hearing the diverse voices within our communities. Conducted by researchers at VA Puget Sound Health Care System, the study consists of completing a confidential, webbased questionnaire every nine months for approximately two years (for a total of four questionnaires). All research activities are completed online, with no in-person visits required.

Because ‘The Legend of Dr owsy Valley’ Just Doesn’t Have the Same Oomph! By Paul Cieslewicz
I blame Disney! In this day and age that is not a hard statement to make. They own nearly everything from Star Wars to Marvel to now the entirety of 20th Century Fox (does this mean that Anastasia is officially a Disney princess, and Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show is officially a queen?!). For the purposes of this article, though, we will be harkening back to my youth, when they weren’t nearly the monopoly they are now, and I was enamored with their weekly television program, The Wonderful World of Disney. I always looked forward to fall in Wisconsin, when the leaves turned colors, the temperatures cooled down, the mosquitoes all died, and the Halloween season began. When October came around was also the time The Wonderful World of Disney would start featuring its Halloween fare, from The Child of Glass and Mr. Boogedy films, to its 1937 animated short, Lonesome Ghosts, which was usually paired with my most highly anticipated animated feature, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I was always enthralled by horror stories and the supernatural, and due to my sheltered childhood, the Headless Horseman was my go-to character for Halloween chills and thrills. 88 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine
Based on the 1820 gothic tale by Washington Irving (200 years old in 2020!), Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, though referred to as “Ichabod Crane or The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in an onscreen visual, was originally the second half of an animated feature film, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, behind another animated adaptation, The Wind in the Willows. It was released on October 5th, 1949 (celebrating its 70th anniversary this year!). Disney would end up separating the two adaptations for television, and on its own it would become The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in 1955 when it aired for the first time. Narrated and sung by the incredible Bing Crosby, in his only collaboration with Disney, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow recounts the tale of tall, lanky, golden voiced ladies’ man, but extremely superstitious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane (is this where I get my thing for men I consider “geek chic”?). He arrives to the village of Sleepy Hollow as an educator with an appetite for dinners at students’ houses with mothers who can cook well. He eventually meets Katrina van Tassel, the beautiful daughter of a rich farmer, who every man in the town has their eyes on. But they all look away when Brom Bones (think toxic masculinity in the flesh) shows up on the scene to court the damsel,
all except for Ichabod Crane. This sets up a back-and-forth battle between the polar opposite men for the hand of Ms. van Tassel. The rivalry continues until a Halloween party at the van Tassel residence, where Brom takes full advantage of Ichabod’s superstitious nature by telling a ghost story about the Headless Horseman. The wary Ichabod sets out for home on his gallant ass (donkey…now get thee to a nunnery!), but sure enough, he encounters the Horseman while passing through a cemetery. A chase ensues with the sword and flaming pumpkin wielding Headless Horseman in full pursuit of Ichabod. Referencing a portion of Brom’s ghost story, Ichabod makes for a bridge across a brook where the Horseman’s power supposedly ends. Ichabod crosses the bridge thinking he is safe, only to witness the Horseman hurl the flaming pumpkin at him. The next morning all that’s found of Ichabod is his hat and the remains of the pumpkin. The town is convinced that Ichabod has been “spirited away” by the Headless Horseman. The storytelling of the film and tension of the chase, combined with the amazing animation and the über-creepy laugh of the Headless Horseman (I could have sworn that I heard it used in It: Chapter Two) makes The Legend of Sleepy Hollow required viewing every year during the Halloween season, right alongside the film, Trick ‘r Treat, and Tim Burton’s own adaptation of Washinton Irving’s tale, Sleepy Hollow. There have been a myriad of adaptations of Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” through the years, including a 1922 silent film, a 1980 NBC film starring Jeff Goldblum (The Fly, Independence Day) and football star Dick Butkus that was so ridiculous that Ichabod actually chased the Headless Horseman, as well as the recent Fox series, Sleepy Hollow, which lasted four seasons. There is even
a new comic book series, Headless, from Scout Comics, that brings the Headless Horseman to 1987 Salem, Massachusetts. However, director Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow from 1999 (celebrating its 20th anniversary this year) stands heads above them (pun greatly intended), even though it takes some of the greatest liberties with the story. Ichabod, played by a not-quite-annoying-just-yet Johhny Depp, is a cowardly investigator sent to solve the murders of the Headless Horseman. The Horseman himself is controlled by whomever holds the original skull of the Hessian soldier (Christopher Walken) who becomes the Headless Horseman. Even Katrina van Tassel (Christina Ricci) dabbles in magic and the supernatural. What endures me to this film is the perfect blend of Burton weirdness, the gorgeous costuming, the beyond amazing visuals and the numerous homages to the Disney film; the image of the clouds that look like hands covering the moon, the frogs croaking Ichabod’s name, the black bird calling “Beware!”, and even the hurling of the flaming pumpkin by the Horseman are all represented. Burton crafts his own unique dark tale, while using aspects of the original tale that are rarely acknowledged, such as the Hessian soldier origin of the Headless Horseman, yet includes shout-outs to the previous adaptations. Halloween just isn’t Halloween to me without the inclusion of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in its many incarnations (and “Danse macabre, Op. 40” by Camille Saint-Saëns, but that’s another article). Now excuse me while I go drink my coffee from my Ichabod and Mr. Toad 70th Anniversary mug.

The History of the
TRANSGENDER FLAG
Do you know the story behind the transgender flag? Here are some fast facts about its history and creator, as well as some alternative trans flag designs. 1. The transgender flag was created by trans woman Monica Helmes in 1999 The trans pride flag was designed by Monica Helms, an openly transgender American woman, in August 1999. It was first shown at a Phoenix, Arizona LGBT pride celebration the following year. 2. Every aspect of the design is carefully chosen to reflect trans identities. Helms describes the meaning of the transgender flag as follows: “The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional color for baby boys. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional color for baby girls. The stripe in the middle is white, for those who are intersex, transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender. The pattern is such that no matter which way you fly it, it is always correct, signifying us finding correctness in our lives.” 3. The very first flag now lives at the Smithsonia. In August 2014, Helms donated the original transgender flag to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, as part of a special LGBT collection.
4. There are several alternative transgender flag designs. A design for an alternative transgender flag, created by Ottawa designer Michelle Lindsay, consists of two stripes: the top in magenta representing female and the bottom in blue representing male, overlapped by a transgender symbol in white. It was first used in the Ottawa area for the 2010 Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), and has since been flown for TDoR events in the Ottawa-Gatineau region as well as during the Peterborough Pride Parade. There’s also another design used primarily in Israel by the transgender and genderqueer community. Unlike the colors of the other designs, this flag is neon green and features the transgender symbol centered in black. 5. There is a flag design for genderqueer trans folks
Designed by genderqueer writer and advocate Marilyn Roxie, the genderqueer flag consists of a lavender stripe on the top, as it is a mixture of blue and pink – the traditional colors associated with men and women – in order to represent androgyny. The lavender also represents the queer identity, as it has long been a color associated with the LGBT community. In the center is a white stripe, meant to represent the gender or gender neutral identity. Finally, there is the dark chartreuse green, as the inverse of lavender, it is used to represent third gender identities and all those who identify off the traditional gender spectrum.

The LGBT community is represented by the bright colors of the rainbow flag. Each color represents an important pillar of our community. Beyond the umbrella of the rainbow of colors, each community is represented by a flag – Leather, Lesbian, Bear, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and so on. These rough outlines do not exist to divide us – but rather to help us celebrate our differences! In the past, LGBT people hid who they were – now by celebrating who we are we have solidified our important place in society. With many LGBT issues of equality fading into the past, many young people do not understand the need for such displays of representation. We sat down with Ernie Yuen, Executive Director for Las Vegas PRIDE, and Jamie Lee Sprague-Ballou from TransPride Las Vegas to talk about our roles in keeping PRIDE alive in Las Vegas.

The Board has partnered with several startup groups and organizations over the years, allowing others to pool resources and setup their non-profit operations. Groups of all types have gotten their feet wet with the help of Las Vegas PRIDE – Bi-Sexual groups, Leather, Las Vegas PRIDE Spinners Color Guard, and others. Transgender People Use the language a transgender person uses for themselves. No two transgender people are exactly the same, and different transgender people may use different words to describe themselves. You should follow the lead of each transgender person, as they will best know the language that is right for them. If you don’t know what pronouns to use, ask. A simple way to see what pronouns someone uses—he, she, they, or something else—is to wait and see if it comes up naturally in conversation. If you’re still unsure, ask politely and respectfully, without making a big deal about it. Sharing your own pronouns is a great way to bring up the topic—for example, “Hi, I’m Rebecca and I use she/her/hers as my pronouns. How about you?” If you accidentally use the wrong pronouns, apologize and move on. Making a big deal out of a pronoun mistake may be awkward and often draws unwanted attention to the transgender person. Be careful and considerate about what other questions you ask. There are many topics— medical transition, life pre-transition, sexual activity—that you may be curious about. That doesn’t mean it’s appropriate to ask a transgender person about them, or expect a transgender person to be comfortable sharing intimate details about themselves. There are two questions you can ask yourself that may help determine if a topic is appropriate to bring up: “Do I need to know this information to treat them respectfully?” Asking someone’s name and pronoun is almost always appropriate, as we use that information in talking to and about each other every day. Beyond that, though, you may be curious about questions that are not things you truly need to know. For example, a transgender coworker’s surgical history is rarely information that you need to know.
Someone’s transgender identity is their private information to share, or not. Just because someone has told you that they are transgender does not necessarily mean that they have told everyone in their life. A transgender person may not choose to tell others that they are transgender because it is unsafe to do so, because they’re worried they’ll be mistreated or fired, or simply because they don’t want to share that information with someone. It is not up to you to decide who should or shouldn’t know that a particular person is transgender. Similarly, transgender people should be the ones to decide how much information is being shared: a transgender person may be open about being trans, but only want to discuss medical issues with certain close friends. Simply because a transgender person has told you something about their experiences doesn’t mean they want everyone to know.
“Would I be comfortable if this question was turned around and asked of me?” Another good way to determine if a question is appropriate is to think about how it would feel if someone asked you something similar. For example, it would probably not feel appropriate for a coworker to ask you about your private areas of your body. Likewise, it’s probably not appropriate to ask similar questions about a transgender coworker’s body. Here are some specific topics that many transgender people are uncomfortable discussing with anyone but those closest to them:
• “You look like a real woman! I never would

• “You would look less trans if you just got a
name!) or photographs from before they transitioned • What hormones they are (or aren’t) taking • What surgeries they have (or have not) had • Questions related to sexual relationships
Avoid compliments or advice based on stereotypes about transgender people, or about how men and women should look or act. People sometimes intend to be supportive but unintentionally hurt transgender people by focusing on their looks or whether they conform to gender stereotypes. Here are some examples of what to avoid, as they often feel like backhanded compliments: have known that you’re trans.”

Partnering agencies represented at the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center (VSRC) to assist those affected by the shooting include Clark County Social Service, Nevada Victims of Crime Program, Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, Clark County Department of Family Services, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, and the LVMPD Victims Services.
The Vegas Strong Resiliency Center is a place of healing and support dedicated to serving as a resource and referral center for residents, visitors and responders affected by the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. The Center is staffed by knowledgeable and caring professionals to help people access resources to help them build strength and resiliency in the aftermath of this incident. Anyone impacted by 1 October is welcome to call, email or visit the resiliency center. To protect the confidentiality of visitors, media are not allowed to visit the center without making arrangements in advance. Services that are available include victim advocacy and support, case management, counseling and spiritual care referrals, technical assistance with applying for online services including FBI Victim Assistance services and more. Free civil legal services are available including legal consultations and possible legal representation for issues involving insurance matters, medical billing problems, debt collection, housing and evictions, family law matters and more. Together our community is #VegasStrong as we support those affected by the 1 October shooting incident.
