I am not a whore. I am not confused. I am not “going through a phase.” I am not invisible. I am not unfaithful. I am not alone.

I am bisexual. And that’s really all there is to it.

THE ‘BI’-ING OF AMERICA BI CORNER By Steve Mitchell An interesting headline caught my eye in April of this year. “The number of Americans who are bisexual has TRIPLED in the past decade - and women are driving the increase, General Social Survey data shows”(1). What this really tells me is that more people feel comfortable being authentic. Western culture is still one of suppression and oppression. In 2008, 1.1% of Americans identified as bisexual. This year, 3.3% of Americans identified as such. There is a big disparity between men and women. 5.6% of U.S. women consider themselves bisexual while only 0.6% of men openly identify as bi. African Americans were more likely than white people to identify as bi (6.5% vs. 2.5%). All very interesting.

the country, there are a lot more than 0.6% of the men who are actually bi. It will remain difficult for men to come out as bi and live authentic lives as long as current generalizations remain. Putting aside the commonly heard assertion that “two women together is hot but two men is not”, it is almost universally assumed that being bi and monogamous are mutually exclusive. The assumption is that a married couple where one or both is bi MUST be swingers or have an open marriage until proven otherwise. There are many bi people who are serially monogamous. At the other end of the spectrum, a “straight” married couple is assumed to be monogamous until proven otherwise. Both assumptions are often wrong. I was shocked to find out that many people that I attended In talking to many friends in the LGBT church with when I was younger were community I can tell you that if Las in the “lifestyle”. Every couple – gay, Vegas is representative of the rest of straight, bi, etc. – live by a code that

works for them. We don’t force our beliefs on anyone else. People have to find what works for them. I think we are slowly evolving to that place of understanding. In the meantime, the bi’s are emerging. There are a lot of you out there! It is estimated that over 50% of the LGBT community is bi, but in the closet because they don’t think they will be accepted in the gay community! Shouldn’t the LGBT community be the most inclusive? Maybe we need a “Bi Day” at Temptation Sunday this year. All those in the closet can attend the party with a Purple/Pink/Blue flag, swimsuit, body paint, etc., in a big Bi Coming Out celebration. I would bet anyone that more than half of the people there, if all were being honest, would be attired in those colors.

SUMMER, SEX, & STDs By Nick Martinez

course, with these summers, come: pool parties, lots of day drinking, very little clothing, and summer “romances.” I’m pretty sure you can guess what happens next. Clark County has been rated one of top counties in the US for contracting STDs. According to the CDC, Clark County has been rated the number one county for Syphilis in the US. It’s no surprise that with Sin Cities continuous flow of international tourists coming and going, unprotected sex is bound to happen, and more than likely bringing along diseases. This gives a whole new meaning to “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!”

This year’s hashtag is #FunintheSun. But when does it become too much fun? I’ll tell you, it becomes too much fun when you have to go to your local Health District to get a shot in your ass or a two pill antibiotic because you were having too much #FunintheSun, that you forgot to wrap it up, and now you have a lovely Sexually Transmitted Disease that you need to treat.

Legends in Concert By Steve Mitchell

Tierney Allen grew up singing and dancing. She was bred to be a pop star. She had the voice. She had the look. And, perhaps, most importantly, the attitude. But like so many talented artists the right time and the right place hadn’t happened. Yet. While working her day job, one of her clients was Kate Beckinsdale. Kate told her that she looked like Lady Gaga. (This was the “Just Dance” timeframe). And, just like that a new direction was born. Tierney moved to Las Vegas 8 years ago. She joined the Legends team 4 year ago. If you’ve seen the current Legends show you know that the 34 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine

time she spent developing her Lady Gaga persona has paid off in spades. As a performer myself, I know the level of time and effort that goes into perfecting a character, especially one as talented and “out there” as Lady Gaga. Tierney, quite simply, nails it.

costumes. There is a danger that this could actually take away from the tribute aspect of a show but Legends weaves the showgirls into the production that feels natural and adds to the spectacle in the best way possible.

Legends, which is in residence at the Tropicana, is a bigger, bolder and better production than any incarnation that preceded it. They have 8 dancers, a live band and performances by young “Elvis”, “Lady Gaga”, “Whitney Houston”, and “Frank Sinatra”. The Legends production team has brought back Las Vegas showgirls with vintage

The first tribute of the show is young Elvis. Only one word can describe it – WOW! The voice. The moves. The stage presence. It’s all there. The whole cast knows how to bring the audience into the production. Young Elvis KILLS! Next comes Lady Gaga. Again – the voice. The moves. The presence.

They are all there and I feel like the set flew by much too fast. I want more. But before you know it, Whitney Houston is on stage. I was transported back to the 80’s when I was watching Whitney on MTV. I almost forgot I was watching a tribute show. The show wraps up with a Frank Sinatra set. The show is now 4 for 4. Frank had the grins, the charisma, the “cool” and even the phantom dice

The Neon Museum By Steve Mitchell

Once a month I see or do something that makes me think to myself, “I am so glad that I live in Las Vegas. You can’t see/do this anywhere else.” That moment happened this month when I went to the Neon Museum. How is it possible I’ve been in Vegas for years and have never gone there before? The Neon Museum was established in 1996 as a 501(c)3 organization to collect and preserve neon signs, an art form inextricably tied to Las Vegas. I went not really knowing what to expect other than seeing a bunch of old neon signs. Well, the visit was so much more than that. There are three options: tour the Boneyard (the area where the signs are stored and set up for viewing), “Brilliant” – an immersive sight and 44 | Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine
