There’s been science theories that were just plain wrong, from Aristotle on motion to the glorious bizarreness of a hollow earth where we live on the inside. Ideas laughed at now. W
hen it comes to foodie vices I have a few. Sorry, I have far more than a few, I have a lot. I can’t resist a Fry’s Turkish Delight or a Sherbett Fountain, I find it difficult to resist won ton soup, Quavers test my resolve and when it comes to pork pie… well truth is I can resist pork pie down here in the heathen south. If you grow up in the north then you will never trust a southern pork pie, too thick in the crust, too pink in the pork and where is that lavish layer of tasty trotter jelly? Conversely I am totally besotted with a local company’s sausage rolls. This Little Piggy make porky delights that put a huge smile on my face. I first encountered them in the Open Market in London Road, now many will bemoan the loss of the old market and I for one miss the profusion of fruit and vegetable vendors who for years were a place of pilgrimage for food lovers here in the city. But the new market does offer some great delights and some genuine bargains. Fruit and veg is there although not as profuse, but get down there for brilliant houmous at Smorl’s Houmous and Falafel and a cheese stall packed with fabulous fromage at less than fancy prices. But it’s the sausage rolls that put a real smile on my face. They will also put inches on my belly now they have opened a second outlet in St James Street just moments away from Latest HQ. I need tagging so I cannot get there more than once a week – and once is dangerous enough. So what is it that makes them so appealing? Well let’s start with the pastry, it’s a crisp open ended sarcophagus of tasty delight, it crunches then bursts with flavour unlike your average high street sausage roll which is a feeble soggy bottomed disaster darling! (I bet Craig RH loves a sausage roll) Then there are the fillings, I love the selection of flavours, ten in all, and rather then having one big pastry I delight in choosing five small ones for £3.50. I freely admit that this is a meaty indulgence and probably more then anyone needs at one sitting – but who is talking need here, this is about pleasure. There are Spanish flavours, Thai, Chinese, American and closer to home Sussex and Lancashire and each is packed with tasty pork and natural flavourings and not only is there a sausage roll for vegetarians but also a vegan roll packed with carrot and beetroot and very appealing it is too. All in all a delicious local treat that deserves a visit. This Little Piggy Brighton Open Market. We are open Tuesdsay Saturday, 9am - 5pm. 105 St James’ Street Brighton Tuesdsay - Saturday, 9am - 5.30pm and various farmers’ markets around the county
NOTHING VENTURED
T
here’s nothing ‘am’ about amdram here in Brighton and Hove and at the New Venture theatre this could not be more true. Season upon season they prove that they are not only ambitious but accomplished. Here are their new productions, no doubt all of them worthy of consideration. First comes Orphans by Dennis Kelly. While threat and menace pervade the neighbourhood, Danny and Helen keep their heads down and their mouths shut. The moment Orphans begins, though, Helen's brother appears in their flat, dripping with blood... But whose is it? And what is Liam hiding? Plunging straight into a thrilling, contemporary suspense story, Orphans takes you on a chilling journey of emerging truth and buckling trust. Never free from an encroaching sense of dystopia, Orphans is both disturbing and naturalistic. Audiences leave with the feeling that society's horrors are closer and more nightmarish than ever before... If you like your drama bleak and your humour black, Orphans is a must-see play.

It’s a place where lost boys run riot, pirates are in fine voice, crocodiles go tick-tock, and the villain has a very shiny hook! Director James Weisz says: “Having a year under our belts, and six years of incredible experiences (James brought panto back to Brighton in 2013) we are bringing back our knowledge and the fantastic experiences we’ve had during the summer to create a feelgood evening for the whole family. Peter Pan is a very well known

LANDLORDS WITHOUT A KHALIL LANDLORDS WITHOUT KHALIL THERE IS SUCH THING AS RENT WITHOUT RISK IN HOVE, ACTUALLY Forget what you’ve heard: rent without risk is not only possible in Hove, it can be guaranteed. You read that right: your rent can be guaranteed. What’s more I can guarantee that you also won’t need to lift a finger to achieve this. You can leave all the legwork to me – all that I ask is for you enjoy the returns. And I’m sure you will. KHALIL’S RENT GUARANTEE SCHEME Sounds good – then why not drop by for a coffee and a chat? You’ll find me at 22 Western Road, close to the seafront and surrounded by the Regency splendour that makes Hove so attractive. I’ve been making landlords lives easier locally for many years – but I’ve saved my very best until now. Imagine your Hove property continuing to pay you rent even when it’s empty. Imagine enjoying the rental returns without the runaround of the rental process. Imagine making money from your property every day without the hassle of everyday property maintenance.
• • •
HOW MY GUARANTEE SCHEME WORKS HARD TO MAKE RENTING EASY FOR YOU I offer a very simple way to take the insecurity, hassle and commitments out of renting. I’ll lease your property for a few years at a very attractive rate. During this time, I guarantee your rent. It will be paid regardless of whether your property is occupied or not. There are no management fees and no hidden costs. I handle all the day to day maintenance and I find and manage your tenants. And at the end of the lease I’ll return your property to you in the same condition as it was when we started our relationship. You can always choose to rinse and repeat, enjoying hassle and costfree letting for another five years.
• • • • • • • •
It’s a simple and effective scheme. And it has been delighting local landlords for nearly three years now. Why not come by and find out how it can work for you? After all, not many things in life are guaranteed, but your rental income certainly can be. For more information about rental returns without the risk and rigmarole call Ahmed on07984 015669 or drop by for a chat at Khalil Properties, 22 Western Road, Hove BN3 1AF.
