andrew kay dines out HONEST FARE WITH A SEA VIEW
S
ticking with my mood of classic comforts this week I was pressed for time the other day and more than a little peckish after a long haul of recording my two regular Latest LGBT+ TV shows. There’s nothing like 3 hours interviewing people on camera to build an appetite and last week I certainly did. I had also damaged my knee so finding a hearty meal within hobbling distance of the Latest TV studio was an essential element of the hunt. In the summer my old mate Mr L, the G-Scene L, introduced me to the food at Amsterdam Bar & Kitchen after a gruelling hour on set for Queersay. It was a good, excellent and generous salad of chicken, avocado and bacon that more than hit the spot and despite it being fairly calorific gave a vague impression of being healthy. It started a habit and I pop in from time to time and enjoy such comforts as a fish finger sandwich and on one occasion a very good shepherds pie, which is not on the printed menu but is often available as a special. It’s close to the studio but more than that, it’s unpretentious and reasonable priced. The portions are hearty too, you don’t need a magnifying glass to find your meal! On this occasion I was famished and decided to give their chicken breast burger a whirl. To be frank I would have scoffed down anything on the menu but my mood was dictating chips and my palate fancied dill pickle. Anyone in my family will tell you about my life long addiction to pickles in almost any form, however I do not entertain the pickled egg under any circumstances. The meal arrived in dignified time, by which I mean it was prepared freshly for me and as I have come to expect it was very generous and piping hot. It’s not claiming to be a gourmet burger, but given the prime location overlooking the sea and the pier, and the keen pricing, it has to be a good option in a city where food prices are constantly on the rise and dare I say it portion sizes on the decline! amsterdambrighton.com

LANDLORDS WITHOUT KHALIL LANDLORDS WITHOUT KHALIL AT LAST! A TRULY LOCAL AIRBNB HOSTING SOLUTION FOR BRIGHTON & HOVE
AT KHALIL’S WE LOVE AIRBNB Shortterm lets are the ideal way to maximise your Brighton and Hove property’s income without being tied into any longterm commitments. And Airbnb pays very well, indeed: you can get your gorgeous seaside pad rented for returns as high as £3,000 a month.
WE KNOW THAT YOU LOVE THE IDEA OF AIRBNB… … Until, of course, you start putting in the hours every month that it takes to manage a popular, Brighton and Hove property through this socalled hasslefree service. There’s the… Uncertainty over adjusting your pricing for each season Constant clarifications and communications by text, email and messaging Clearing up and cleaning after each shortstay guest Checkins and checkouts at all hours Unexpected emergencies Maintenance and repairs aundry requirements for new sets of towels and linen… And (gasp) the list just seems to go on.
• • • • • • • •
WE LOVE KEEPING IT LOCAL Of course, anyone who has looked into managed Airbnb hosting for their Brighton pad or palatial mansion will tell you the same thing: there are plenty of nationwide companies out there willing to help, but it’s impossible to find anyone local.
That’s why Khalil’s has set up a truly local service for Brighton Airbnb hosting. We’ve been managing properties locally for so many years that we are in the perfect position to help you offer guests a great stay – and you won’t need to lift a finger. From our Western Road office, next to the seafront and Regency splendour that makes this city such a joy to visit, we can take all the hassle out of your Airbnb listings.
HERE’S WHAT KHALIL’S CAN DO FOR YOU We manage all your enquiries and organise your rental calendar. We’re always on hand to advise you of local demand and seasonal pricing. We handle all the checkins and checkouts. We provide freshly laundered towels and linen, take care of the cleaning and even handle any small repairs and daytoday maintenance. We make sure someone is available 24/7 for emergencies, and your guests have a local contact if they need to chat. You just have to sit back and relax and watch the income from your property roll in. We do not charge you fees for our help – all we ask is for a percentage of your rental income to cover the services we provide and the value we add.
• • • • • • •
THIS IS AIRBNB HOW IT SHOULD BE Locally and professionally managed – for a great experience for the property owner and every single one of their guests.
