andrew kay dines out TOP CHEFS

YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR I am always excited to chair the judging panel for these prestigious awards and this year the universal thought of the judges was that all three of these young talents could have given the seniors a run for their money. The standard was higher than ever and much higher than anyone could have expected. Here are the winners, runners-up and a selection of our thoughts:

HORRIBLE HISTORIES 25TH n 1993 the first Horrible Histories books were published and now Horrible Histories Live On Stage is coming to Theatre Royal Brighton. It’s a chance to catch Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians in two hilarious shows featuring eye popping 3D special effects! In Terrible Tudors take a trip through the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth and hear the legend (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors. Find out the fate of Henry's headless wives and his punch up with the Pope. Meet Bloody Mary and see Ed fall dead in his bed. Survive the Spanish Armada as it sails into the audience! Awful Egyptians invites you to meet the fascinating Pharaohs, gasp at the power of the pyramids and discover the foul facts of death and decay with the meanest mummies in Egypt. Are you ready to rumble with Ramesses the Great? Dare you enter through the Gates of the Afterlife? It’s the history of Egypt with the nasty bits left in! A special feature of the productions are the amazing 3D effects called Bogglevision! Among an array of 3D illusions the audience will see the Spanish Armada firing cannonballs into the auditorium and the Mummy reaching out to grab them! Horrible Histories Live on Stage is written by Terry Deary from his bestselling Horrible Histories books. Terry Deary is the

HOW LANDLORDS TO MAXIMISE THE RENT ON YOUR WITHOUT KHALIL LANDLORDS WITHOUT KHALIL LUXURY BRIGHTON & HOVE PROPERTY (WITHOUT RUNNING ANY RISKS) HERE’S SOMETHING THAT LANDLORDS WHO HAVE INVESTED IN PREMIUM PROPERTY AROUND BRIGHTON WILL BE INTERESTED TO HEAR There is a way that you can guarantee the high rents you command on your luxury local pads without ever having to lift a finger. And when you guarantee your rent you will never suffer a void period without rent. It’s a surefire way to maximise your rental returns.

WHAT’S THE CATCH? THERE ISN’T ONE. LET ME TELL YOU MORE. WHY GUARANTEEING THE RENT ON YOUR LUXURY PROPERTY MAKES SENSE. The risks involved in letting a luxury property can be high. There are: The hidden maintenance and cleaning charges. The difficulties in finding new tenants willing to pay a premium rent. And the complexities involved in raising rent to keep up with a fluid property market. There is a way, however, to receive a guaranteed rent on your property without any of these risks.

• • • •

At Khalil’s we urgently need new luxury properties to rent locally. So much so, that we’re prepared to guarantee you a rent that is in line with what you currently command – but we’ll do all the leg work and you face with none of the risk. We offer a very simple way to take the insecurity, hassle and commitments out of renting. We lease your premium property for a few years at a very attractive rate. This rent is guaranteed, month in and month out regardless of whether your property is occupied. There are no management fees – and no hidden costs. We handle all the day to day maintenance and find and manage your tenants. At the end of the lease we’ll return your property to you in the same condition as it was when we started our relationship.

• • • • • •

We want to talk to landlords at the highend of the property market. Our Rent Guarantee Scheme urgently needs properties at the higher end of the market. We know we can ensure you receive rent without risk – and we think you’ll be more than surprised at the levels of rent we can guarantee. If you’d like to find out more why not drop by my office – just off Hove seafront – at 22 Western Road for a coffee and a chat. You have nothing to lose but your rental risk.

For more information about rent without risk on your luxury Brighton and Hove property call Ahmed on 07984015669 or drop by for a chat at Khalil Properties, 22 Western Road, Hove BN3 1AF

on’t miss Polish artist Cat-arzyna in Kenya Road, Hove, whose Open House is inspired by the traditional Polish Christmas decorations she grew up with - and whose work is infused with a Polish soul and the childhood magic of Christmas. Northern Lights, at 29 Lancaster Road, is an Open House with a distinctly Scandinavian feel. Here you can meet Finnish/ Scottish textile designer Anneli Fleming-Brown, along with a Dutch jeweller, Finnish printmaker and a French/English designer duo. Grace Eyre Art Studio in London Road’s Open Market is an inclusive space run by artists with learning disabilities. Their Christmas show features work around themes set by the artists, including painting, print, textiles, mosaic, photography and knitting. Visitors are warmly welcomed to drop by, bag a unique piece of art and say hi!

At 69 Grange Road, Hove, Nicholas Carrick will be showing paintings documenting his regular Journey from Hove to Sagra near Valencia, in Spain. Alongside the paintings you can view the Spanish memorabilia, tiles and other oddities that have provided the artist with inspiration.

William Collier House, in North Road houses and supports single men and women who have experienced homelessness, helping them to improve their wellbeing, gain skills and maximise their confidence in order to live independent and fulfilling lives. They will be open 1st and 2nd December only.

In Queens Park visit the Little Papa House, a family-friendly house full of artists and makers, with a tiny German-style chalet in the back garden offering Bratwurst sausage and cake. Visitors are invited to ‘Wear your Christmas jumper and listen to a bit of Oompah!’.

Whilst at Rose Hill Court, Rose Hill Terrace, Rose Hill Rebels are a group of residents who take part in weekly creative ageing activities. The group is funded by National Lottery Awards for All and supported by the charity Equal Arts, who bring artists in to facilitate the creativity sessions.

For a family day out don’t miss Portraits, Puppets and Performance at The Regency Town House, Brunswick Square. They will be presenting a theatrical exhibition of art, storytelling and song, celebrating the magic of winter and including Afternoon Parlour Puppet Shows! The Artists Open Houses Christmas festival offers a wealth of established, professional artists and makers, as well as young and emerging artists. There are craft-learning workshops and activities for children, alongside artworks ranging from ceramics, jewellery, print-making, photography and home-wares, to handcrafted Christmas cards, wreaths, tree decorations and homemade foodie gifts.
