THE LANDLADY Yes she’s back and feisty as ever! HAPPY RETURNS..... n a year which has seen the UK attempt a messy attempt at leaving the EU, I have brexited The Latest, and after a year in exile, am back and hoping to Bremain. A year is a long time In the life of The Landlady and much has happened since we last met. The Cuban boyfriend and I are now almost 4 years together and spend our time whizzing like confused homing pigeons between Oslo, Brighton and Havana, thus creating a carbon footprint that makes Jeremy Clarkson look like a pedalo operative.

o'clock ', a name which has stuck, much like the offending stinky risotto. Luckily for her, The Big Daughter no longer has to suffer these daily culinary forays, as she now has a house of her own in Shoreham with her long-suffering boyfriend, so the only underpants she has to put up with are those of her boyfriend as he ' works from home', modern speak for sitting on the sofa binge-watching Game of Thrones. The absence of The Big Daughter means that now The Small Daughter and I are tasked with the enforcement of the ' hard border' between the kitchen and the living room. The Big Daughter was a past master at ensuring that no lodgers ever dared enter the living room due to the frosty atmosphere and general air of ill ease she created whenever she was in there. The Small Daughter and I are much nicer people, but I hope our general sunny countenances do not invite new lodgers to eat their dinner with us in front of the TV. There'll be no custard union here........

Landlady Towers remains the cranky home for the disparate that it ever was and as well as exciting new lodgers, I have achieved a new record of sorts with one lodger, who will have been with me for 6 years this month. In many ways, he's one of the most annoying lodgers I've ever had, as he hogs the kitchen for hours at a time, usually cooking something, possibly organic, which smells like boiling underpants. The Big Daughter cleverly coined this hour of unpalatable odours 'underpants

moshimo vegan challenge international stars posing naked with raw fish has been a beautifully realised medium, gaining attention through great artistry. The Great Moshimo Vegan Challenge was a feast of fun with six local restaurants taking part and delivering a dinner of exceptional quality and value. My friend that night was Mr O, and he too was blown away by each of the dishes. The format requires voting by the assembled diners, not all I hasten to add vegans or vegetarians. Mr O and I were as one when it came to rating the dishes. A superb bao had us oohing and aching and an incredible delicate dish of whipped tofu with mushroom broth and pickled mushrooms was simply sensational, the stuff of any fine dining experience. My favourite was an easy choice as I am somewhat obsessed with aubergines right now and the wasabi battered discs served on top of a creamy mango purée was truly fabulous. I want that dish agin please and soon. MOSHIMO is continuously looking to increase the vegan options on its menu, and in 2018 launched 50% Vegan VVednesdays, where all plant-based food is discounted by 50% for MOSHIMO Members (25% for non-Members). For more details of the Vegan challenge go to moshimo.co.uk/greatmoshimo-veganchallenge/

I

’m not a vegan, I probably never will be a vegan, but I do respect a person’s right to decide to choose to not eat meats or dairy produce – or at least I did. But recent events have made me question things. Personally I try at all times to buy and use ethically sourced and produced foods. I sometimes fail, it’s not always easy I am sure many of you will agree, and there are times when needs must. I am an omnivore but increasingly I eat less meat and less fish too and in part that part of my diet has been inspired by some of my favourite Brighton restaurants, the city’s best chefs, whether vegan, vegetarian or omnivore have all championed great not meat dishes and their endeavours have inspired my own kitchen exploits. So right now I am inspired by one initiative and horrified by another. Let’s start with the horror. Recent news report showed me protests made by

“If vegan protestors want to make a case then please find a better way to do it – like Moshimo do!” vegans and animal rights supporters who have invaded a number of places and thrown fake blood across the floor. They chose MacDonalds, Greggs and HISBE. These protests surely did more damage than good. Frightening kids in a burger chain is inexcusable, Greggs cater for non-meat eaters with their much publicised vegan sausage roll and no enterprise has done more to promote conscientious shopping than HISBE. If vegan protestors want to make a case then please find a better way to do it Like Moshimo do! Now for the good news, I recently went along to a heat of the vegan challenge hosted and run by those clever souls at Moshimo. Moshimo have been at the forefront of an international campaign that they started to promote sustainable fishing. The Fish Love campaign has brought the issues to global attention and the amazing photographs of

stage THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR OF THE LEGENDARY ROCK MUSICAL HAIR STARRING JAKE QUICKENDEN, DAISY WOODDAVIS & MARCUS COLLINS COMES TO BRIGHTON n the 1960s very few works of musical theatre created the impact of Hair. It brought together the world of pop and theatre that had never been done before and in doing so created not only a theatre hit but a string of pop classics too. It broke barriers in so many ways – including on stage nudity, but above all it raised awareness of the fact that modern youth cared about war and wanted peace. After winning a WhatsOnStage award in 2018, this celebrated production will now embark on a journey of peace and love across the UK and heads to Theatre Royal Brighton from Monday 8 – Sat 13 July. Leading the cast in this revolutionary, Grammy award winning musical is Dancing on Ice’s 2018 champion Jake Quickenden as Berger, Hollyoaks’ Daisy Wood-Davis as Sheila and X Factor 2011 finalist Marcus Collins as Hud. The cast is completed by: Alison Arnopp, Tom Bales, Louise Francis, Natalie Green, David Heywood, Bradley Judge, Aiesha Pease, Laura Sillett, Spin, Kelly Sweeney and Paul Wilkins. Welcome to the ‘Age of Aquarius’. It’s 1967 and HAIR’s hippie ‘tribe' youngsters in the East Village of New York are yearning to change the world, questioning authority and the American flag. Wild, colourful, sexually liberated and free, they are united in protest and song, under the shadow of the Vietnam War. Hair, which is adored for its Grammy award winning score featuring iconic hits such as Aquarius, Let the Sun Shine In, I Got Life and Good Morning Starshine is written by Gerome Ragni (book and lyrics), James Rado (book and lyrics) and Galt MacDermot (music). The 50th anniversary production has been cast by the previous head of BBC casting Jane Deitch and is directed by Jonathan O’Boyle (Pippin, Rain Man, Aspects Of Love), who is reunited with the brilliant creative team from Hope Mill Theatre: Gareth Bretherton (Musical Director), William Whelton (Choreographer), Maeve Black (Designer), Ben M Rogers (Lighting Designer), Calum Robinson (Sound Designer), Max Perryment (Soundscape Designer) and producers Katy Lipson for Aria
