habiter la vallée de la chimie 2015/2016 - Master 2 Territorial analysis and urban strategy for several small municipalities in the «Vallée de la Chimie», between Lyon and Vienne. Phase 1 : Analysis of OMA : mapping, reappropriation of the thematics. Phase 2 : Choice of thematic, study site, and urban strategy proposition for one of those municipalities. In collaboration with : Emilie Pillon and Lucie Boissenin.

TERRITORIAL ANALYSIS

Perception of a split up territory, at the level of its accessibility, its landscape and its functional distribution. In cause, in particular, the natural topography of the valley, the major infrastructures connecting the South of France with the city of Lyon (highway, railroad, river, etc.), and finally the presence of chimical industries and the constructive constraints which are bound to it.

// 10

Overlaying of the differents limits

A FRAGMENTED TERRITORY

The topographical constraints, which asking questions about the LANDSCAPE role in the urban development and the production of a living environment.

The infrastructural limits, questioning the accessibility and the mobility in the territory.

The perimeters of the industrial risks, which encourage the programmatic zoning.

an archipel territory

The biggest dichotomy which exists between these programmatic enclaves is the one which separates the « productive valley » - large factories on vast plot of land - from the «inhabited valley» - The active villages situated mainly beyond the railroad and the «balmes1». What are the available tools to initiate the decompartmentalization and the articulation of these two different faces of the valley?

This analysis also led to the discovery of spaces belonging to none of these enclaves, indefinite, abandoned spaces and in state of fallow land. It is within one of these latent spaces, situated in the North of the municipality of Feyzin, that we chose to develop a scenario exploiting the opportunity of a ex-nihilo project which can make coexist the various activities in the valley.

1 The balmes denotes the uneven created by the shrinkage of the river.

FEYZIN : the key issues

MOBILITY We lean on the setting-up of a stop of the future suburban train which will serve the municipalities of the valley, to generate a new urban polarity to Feyzin, which would articulate the industries and the inhabited parts, and would strengthen the connection between the municipalities of Feyzin and Saint-Fons.

LANDSCAPE Development of an inhabited landscape, on the meeting of two perceived landscapes : the landscaped band which puts at a distance infrastructures in the East, and balmes on the West.

PROGRAM In the joint between tissues in the singular geometries and in the very autonomous functions, the stake in the site, also valid on the scale of all the valley, is to make possible a programmatic mixing allowing the cohabitation between the housing environment and a certain type of activities in connection with the existing industries.

CREATING A CONTEXTE

EXISTING CONTEXT

This analysis has led to a strategy of urban development, establishing the structuring elements of the future urban environment. Here, the major levers reside in the transformation of the brownfield in an open landscaped garden, and in the creation of a stop of suburban train in the location of a former railroad grade crossing.

CONSTRUIRE / DECONSTRUIRE L’ÎLOT

Final School Project 2016 - Master 2

Program : Services, offices, housing units, collective housing. Which urban and architectural models could allow the emergence of a new shape of programmatic mixing in periphery? To design a scale to live coherent with the reading of the stakes in the territory by questioning in particular the urban and architectural models of the outer-urban environment : On which references can we lean on? What density to propose? Which materials and which atmospheres?

The nature and the extent of the site imposed the interlacing of the urban and architectural scales. So, the work of public roads and public place, in a site up to here dedicated to the industrial service, widely directed the objectives of project. First of all, to reintroduce the notion of pedestrian relational space associated with the street, the choice was made to separate the automobile public road of the space of pedestrian circulation.

BALMES

The building are organised by groups - as blocks but more open- formed by a protective building (1) following the railroad, and buldings located directly in the park (2). The form and the orientation of those one may vary so as to get the views on the park and, further, on the industrial landscape. The created central public space calls into question the «coeur d’îlot» and the courtyard archetypes.

The ground floor includes services - nursery, cafeteria, companies services - which make these groups at the same time singular and complementary. For habitat, it is a question of diversifying the offer, in proposing spacious housing for families, and smalest typologies to correspond the profiles of the young mobile professionals for example.

TRANSVERSALITY

The in between situation is pronounced by supporting walls and the dual orientation of the main room (kitchen, living and dinning room).

This transversality is also stressed by the constrast between the heavy material concrete of the structural elements and the lighter wood floors. The cladding of East and Nord facades as well as the louver supports on the public space side are in black zinc.

Medical building extension of UdeM MONTRéAL

2014 - Master 1 - Year in Montréal, Canada. Programme : Offices for the administration, classrooms, computing laboratories, cadaver dissection labs. 1800m² Formal experimentation by using of CAO, and through conceptual diagrams and models. Referent teacher : Tom Balaban

21GRAMMES MontrĂŠal

Retain the existing building compactness

Extend the central circulation

// 32

Allow the light to achieve this central common space

It is about the vertical extension of the medicine department of the University of Montreal, on a pre-existing building. The main rooms of this expansion are the cadaver dissection labs (700 m²). The project volumetry is thought so as to respect the existant building compactness, and to allows light to get to the serving central space.

Form genesis :

Conservation of the central corridor serving the lateral rooms

Drilling of the side volumes to throw more light in the central space

Work of the volumetry to get bright and spatial variations and break with the rigidity of first floors

The form and the location of the definitive volumes are determined according to the needs for the various programs.

MATERIaLITY Blocks containing the programs are concrete, crossed by wooden floors on a metallic skeleton. The modelling of the project allowed a research on the entry of light to the building through the faults, and the definition of a ÂŤbright spectreÂť, an abstract volume which passes on the materiality of floors. The light borrow is readable by the alternation of the opaque parts (wood) and translucent of the floor (glass plates).

This project of urban renovation follows an analysis of a whole district, at the same time industrial, residential and placed close to the ring road to Villeurbanne. The proposed typologies go of the individual house to the small collective housing. The stake was to reinterpret the qualities of the individual housing in denser typologies. It was a question of bringing at the same time diversity and comfort in the daily practice of the public place and in the management of thresholds between the latter and housing.

The site chosen as the setting-up of this cultural equipment is marked by the presence of the east ring road of Lyon and its concreted cover which allows the pedestrian connection between the site of study and the large sets situated across the ring road. The planned buildings lean on the infrastructure, so emphasizing the public character of this in between space and the pedestrian connection which it allows. The project links a mineral place on the West, and a park created above the ring road.

Plan R+1

The various programs are treated in a autonomous way but in an architectural coherence and on the principle of a common circulation which follows the cover.

ABRI A VELO 2012 / Licence 1 Project realized in the context of a competition for the social lessor Villeurbanne Est Habitat. Conception of a modular bicycle shed to be placed in the yards of the residences of the lessor. Project named in 7 finalists among hundred proposals. Prize-winner of the special mention : ÂŤLuminosity and TransparencyÂť.

LA BORNE 2011 / Ter STI Arts Appliqués Project developed within the framework of my high school diploma of «arts appliqués», on the theme of the deployed cube. It is about a cubic module, which, thanks to some manipulations, is transformed into table of picnic and place of rest. The shape, the materials, were designed to fit within the singular landscape of the mountain range of Cévènnes (Lozère).
