The Blue Project A story which is written and produced by www.one2oneacademy.com. In this lesson plan you will be a character in an office who is asked to take a business meeting on behalf of a manager.

You will meet and greet the client and interact with the the client over lunch at a restaurant. How you react will change the story line and the ending so you will have to think before you speak.

In this lesson plan which is a module from our English for work course, you will learn: • Business Introductions • How to order food at a restaurant • How to apply modal verbs • How to do a business needs analysis • How to change your voice tones and your speed of speech • Pronunciation

Since this lesson plan is based upon application it will have an impact on your translation time, you can expect to see a reduction as you progress through the story.

As this lesson plan is situational, it means that you will have to improvise just to help add a sense of realism.

This is important as it will effect your performance.

There is no right or wrong answer so don’t panic, you will be shown a target respond by your instructor and this will be recorded for you which will act as a learning point of reference.

These recordings will assist with speed of speech and pronunciation so get used to the way in which you sound.

This story is divided into scenes much like a play so if at any point you which to repeat a scene, simply let your instructor know.

Scene 1 The Office

The time is 9:30 am and you got into work not more than 35 minutes ago. Usually at this time you are checking through your emails and prioritizing your daily tasks. There is a knock at the door, you ask whoever it is to come in.

It’s your manager, Mr Paul Browne who informs you that he has to attend an urgent management meeting. He wants you to have a meeting with a new client on his behalf.

The meeting was arranged for 1pm at the Crowne Restaurant.

Additional information is shown below: Client: Mr James Sinclair Meeting time: 1pm Objective: To do a needs analysis Instructions: Meet the client outside the restaurant at 1pm, introduce yourself and have your meeting over lunch. The table has been reserved under the name of your company. ( Zana Holdings)

Scene 2 Introductions

You have just arrived at the Crowne Restaurant and as you approach the entrance you can see 8 people standing outside. Approach someone and find out if it’s your client.

If you have identified Mr Sinclair, introduce yourself and tell him why your Manager has sent you on his behalf.

When this task has been completed you need to enter the restaurant but how will you suggest that you go inside in a polite way?

It would be considered rude for you to enter the restaurant before your client so as you open the door what will you say to him?

Scene 3 Ordering

As you enter the restaurant, a waiter approaches you. Interact with the waiter, if you complete this task correctly , you will be shown to your table.

Take a seat and your waiter will interact with you and provide you with a menu.

You are representing your company so interact with your client to find out exactly what they would like for starters and main course. Place your order with the waiter.

Scene 4 Needs Analysis The waiter returns with your starters, now is your chance to ask questions about the project.

The meal went very well and it’s time for you to catch the attention of the waiter and request the bill. Close the meeting and make your way outside Mr Sinclair asks you to email conformation for a meeting that he would like with you and your manager before he returns to the UK. Ask Mr Sinclair for his email address and tell him that you will send him an email as soon as you get back to the office.

Scene 5 The Office

You return to your office and your manager asks you about the meeting and questions about the project.

Interact with your manager and update him on the Blue Project.

Scene 6 The Email

Your manager wants you to write an email to Mr Sinclair to confirm that the meeting to discuss the project in more detail can take place tomorrow at 3:30 pm.

Your task is to write the email using formal style, don’t worry your instructor will help you.
