Break into the science sector with this exciting apprenticeship. By studying the Level 4 Biomedical Sciences Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) alongside this programme, you will develop the knowledge and skills required to succeed as a laboratory technician.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths and a science subject, and can also hold Level 3 qualifications. Other relevant experience may be considered as an alternative.

This apprenticeship will broaden your understanding of all aspects of clinical trials and learning practices, helping you take the first step towards a successful scientific career. You will learn how to conduct specialist tests within the lab, while studying the practical application of laboratory techniques. You will explore microscopy, toxicology and biology; sharpen your skills as a data logger; and prepare and record a variety of formulations for toxicology studies. By the end of this apprenticeship your areas of expertise will include: • Conducting routine and one-off laboratory testing • Performing a range of laboratory techniques • Working safely in the laboratory following appropriate health and safety, environment and risk management systems • Stocking and resourcing the laboratory • Maintaining accurate written records of lab work to be carried out • Following procedures to meet quality standards • Recognising, cutting, staining and analysing tissue • Associated tissue data management • Preparing and recording formulations for toxicology studies in-line with employer requirements
