Education roles Ready to get the next generation excited about STEM? Apply your existing knowledge of your specialist subject and develop the professional expertise expected of secondary school teachers. You will already hold a foundation degree or HND in a STEM subject, and may be working outside of education but thinking of making a change to become a teacher. By doing so, you will develop your understanding of how to teach your specialist subject, as well as approaches to teaching in both theoretical and applied contexts, and curriculum subject knowledge.

About the course
Modules may include: • Demonstrating Professional Practice 1 (first placement) – learn the professional standards of teaching • Positive Behaviour – adopt strategies to cope effectively with challenging behaviour in education settings • Demonstrating Professional Practice 2 (second placement) – develop subjectspecific teaching skills, and plan lessons to build and sustain pupil progression • Teaching, Learning and Assessment in
Secondary-based Education – explore factors that contribute to effective teaching strategies • Demonstrating Professional Practice 3 (third placement) – understand the complexities of non-mainstream secondary education • Inclusive Professional Practice – evaluate the role of education in supporting learners’ needs and consider interventions that eliminate barriers
Undergraduate Bursary Final year undergraduates may be eligible for a training bursary of £9,000. This applies to those trainees who are studying a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) course in secondary mathematics or physics.
