Laboratory Scientist Apprenticeship

If you love the laboratory environment, then gain the qualification, knowledge and practical work experience you need to become a laboratory scientist. You will support others with a variety of tasks, further developing your transferable skills and technical knowledge.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and a relevant science subject. You can also hold Level 3 qualifications providing the appropriate number of UCAS points for entry to a Level 6 programme. Other relevant experience may be considered as an alternative.

This means you’re required to participate in continuing professional development on completion of the programme, strengthening your technical skills and experience for progression. At each stage of the apprenticeship, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work in a range of industries, including the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnical and nuclear sectors. And once you have completed the course, you can progress into exciting roles as an analytical chemist, molecular biologist, biotechnologist or medicinal chemist. You can complete this apprenticeship while studying the Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences Foundation Degree; Biomedical Sciences (Biotechnical Sciences) BSc (Hons) Top-up Degree; or the Biomedical Sciences (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences) BSc (Hons) Top-up Degree. By the end of this apprenticeship, your areas of expertise will include: • Data analysis that can be applied to relevant scientific organisations • Analysing, interpreting and evaluating scientific data to make predictions, identify correlations, and support or combat hypotheses • Supporting the appraisal of scientific experimentation with numerical and statistical data • Problem-solving by identifying and using industry-standard approaches • Working safely and ethically to meet companies’ highly regulated conditions
