Organizing your kids’
artwork
My kids bring home so much artwork from school. I think they are amazingly talented, but I can’t keep it all! I don’t know where to put it. A few years ago, I bought large plastic containers for each kid. The containers were going to store file folders to organize their artwork and other school papers I wanted to keep. I still think this is a great idea, but these plastic containers are now holding clothes my kids have outgrown. It’s the thought that counts, right?! I’m still deciding if I want to buy more plastic containers or try something else. There are many options when it comes to organizing your child’s artwork. Here are some of the ideas I have been contemplating:
Oversized Accordion Style Art Portfolio by ALEX Toys I saw this available on www.amazon.com. It has nine compartments to store the art-
work. It seems like this option would take the least amount of effort to keep everything organized.
A Photo Book
Take a picture of the artwork. Upload the photos to a website such as www.shutterfly.com. Create a photo book to display their artwork.
Keepy App
I just found out about this app, and I already love it! You can upload photos of their artwork, or other photos of your child. You can organize them by child, date and category. There is also an option to add grandparents to the app, so they can view the photos, too. Now, I need to just pick one! What do you do with all of your kids’ artwork? Until next time,
Marquita

Physicians Primary Care to celebrate Dr. Seuss March 2
Children will have the opportunity to wear silly hats, decorate bulletin boards and take home a free book when Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest Florida honors Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2. Dr. Seuss, who is most famous for his many children’s books, would have been 113 years old this year. Dr. Seuss’ birthday also is known as “Read Across America Day,” a nationwide reading celebration observed by thousands of schools, libraries and community centers. “Children love the Dr. Seuss stories, such as The Cat In the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. Fostering the love of learning early in life is the key to helping children to become
successful academically,” said Dr. Nathan Landefeld, a pediatrician with Physicians’ Primary Care. During March, all offices of Physicians’ Primary Care will be collecting new and previously loved books to be given to the children. Children’s books may be donated at any Physicians’ Primary Care office in Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres. Pediatric patients also will enjoy face painting and children’s games on March 2 and receive a silly Dr. Seuss hat. Offices are conveniently located in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Lehigh Acres. Speak Out Game
Play Visions Floof Bucket Reuseable Indoor Snow
Get ready to be doubled over with laughter with this ridiculous mouthpiece challenge game! The Speak Out game brings friends and family together for laugh-out-loud fun as players try to say different phrases while wearing a mouthpiece that won't let them shut their mouth. In the Speak Out game, players draw from the deck and read the phrase as best as they can, but it's not so easy to do when the mouthpiece is hindering them from forming words correctly. The timer counts down as players try to say phrases such as "he's my stealthy pet ferret name Garrett", "slow down, you careless clown", or "pelicans love pollywog falafels." The laughter continues as players try to decipher what in the world their teammate is trying to say, and must correctly guess the phrase in order to earn the card. The team with the most cards at the end of the game wins. www.toysrus.com $19.99

Do childhood ear infections affect hearing?
By JL Watson, Lee Health
Ear infections are common in childhood; the majority of children will have at least one ear infection by the age of 3. Fortunately, they rarely cause harm and are easily treated with antibiotics. “Some ear infections do not require treatment, but the child should be examined and observed by a pediatrician,” says pediatric otolaryngologist Stuart Morgenstein, D.O. There are, however, times Dr. Stuart that fluid remains behind the Morganstein eardrum—sometimes for as long as three to four months. In 90% of these cases, this fluid

MARCH 2017
will absorb and resolve on its own without treatment. “This fluid, when present, can result in some hearing loss,” Dr. Morgenstein says. “However, hearing returns to normal with resolution of the fluid within that three- to fourmonth period.” If the fluid persists, and there is documented hearing loss, it can easily be removed with the placement of ear ventilation tubes. This is a five-minute surgical procedure that results in the return of normal hearing. On very rare occasions—especially with the advent of modern antibiotics—an ear infection can lead to meningitis with inflammation of the brain, which can result in permanent hearing loss. However, this is very rare.

Million Mile Movement continues in March As of mid-February, Lee County has walked to the moon (239,000 miles) and then some – at least in distance – since Jan. 9 when Healthy Lee issued the official Million Mile Movement challenge to the community. More than 2,700 individuals have joined the challenge so far, and have logged over 256,000 miles in the first 30 days. Businesses, civic groups, faith groups and individuals are tracking the number of miles they move until March 31, in an effort to meet Healthy Lee’s challenge. The challenge is open to all Lee County residents and businesses to encourage the community to get active, thereby supporting Healthy Lee’s mission to empower and inspire healthy lifestyle choices through education and action. Whether you walk, run, bike, swim or participate in other aerobic activities that energize your body and mind, every step counts—for yourself and our community. “We are excited to see the enthusiasm of the community to get moving to better health,” says Christin Collins, co-chair of the Million Mile Movement and health and wellness business partner for Lee Health.
“Most people don't move enough unless they purposely resolve to do so; the Million Mile Movement is a challenge to do just that,” Collins adds. With nearly two months remaining in the challenge, some teams have already met (or are very near) their original goal set during the kickoff in January. Physicians Primary Care set out to log 11,000 miles, but the team has already well surpassed that goal, logging 17,000 plus miles! Edison National Bank has surpassed its goal of 5,000 miles, and they are still going strong. At the 30-day mark, Lee County Schools showed 23,928 miles on the Million Mile Movement Leaderboard – just 1,072 miles shy of their goal. Join in the challenge at www.HealthyLee.com. Get your family and friends to join, too, and create, or join an existing team. Set a goal, then get moving, and track your miles on the website. If you already have a regular activity routine, join the challenge and log your miles. If walking is not your thing – the website has an Activity Conversion Chart to help you convert your favorite activity into miles.

common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Medical consultants for the project stress that an early diagnosis can make a vast difference for toddlers and their families. They say early intensive behavioral intervention can make an immense difference not just in the development of the child, but in their families as well. The ASD screening is conducted by the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. A physician referral is not required. To schedule a screening, call 239343-6838.
