Sheldon Key Club will be partnering with Mary Tsukamoto Elementary School’s after school program, Think Together. This is a California-based nonprofit organization that works with school districts and local communities to offer extended learning programs for underprivileged and low-income children. Here, Key Clubbers will get the chance to interact and help elementary students with homework or any needs. More information will be out once school is in session!

Sheldon Key Club will be hosting “Build A Backpack: Back to School Drive” throughout the month of August once school starts. Many families are struggling. With high unemployment, many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. In addition, schools across the area are facing severe budget cuts and lack the funding to purchase necessary supplies. Sheldon Key Club will be collecting new and gently used school supplies for the children in need in order to provide them the tools they need to succeed and we would LOVE your help! By donating, you will be making a great difference within our community as well as ensuring that children start the new school year with the supplies they need.

On July 11th, many volunteers from all over Sacramento, came to help beautify William Land Park. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so why not spend it volunteering! At 8AM, when volunteers started arriving, we had the opportunity to choose the task we wanted to do such as mulching, painting benches, raking, and more! There, members were able to meet so many amazing and friendly people, that shared the same passion and interest to serve our community! At the end of the day, we were able to paint the benches throughout the entire park and cleaned it so that people were able enjoy the beauty of William Land Park! 2

1 Painting the tables in the park was a 3 step process—first, we removed all the staples on each table, then we used a wet cloth to wash the tables clean, and lastly we coated the benches and tables with paint several times. In Photo 1, Mindy Phan begins to remove the staples at each corner by using a screwdriver that was provided. In Photo 2, a group of Key Clubbers work together to efficiently paint a table. In Photo 3, Leeza Xiong is adding a second coat to the benches to give it a final touch! *William Land Park Clean-Ups are the FIRST of every month!*

On July 25th, Division 7 South hosted “Caring With Food: Feeding the Homeless” at the Kiwanis Family House. At this event, members were given the opportunity to make sandwiches for the homeless along with looming hats, making fleece blankets and cards for hospital patients. In the pictures shown, Key Clubbers are working hard to make blankets, lunches and hats!

“At the event, I had cut and tied knots on blankets for babies. Also I had a great time talking to different kinds of people.” - Yulan Feng

“The Caring with Food Service Event organized by Division 7 South’s DLT has personally become my favorite service project. I was able to meet new people while doing a variety of projects, from making blankets, looming hats, to making sandwiches! It was wonderful being able to do something for the homeless and children at the same time with my own hands.” - Quynh Anh Dam

“When going to the Caring with Food service project, at first I was really awkward because I didn't know much people. We started making sandwiches and blankets and I got say that it was really great and funbecause you were able to bond with other key clubbers. Overall, since I wasn't able to donate anything, having the thought of helping other people out was the main point of why I had fun. I hope that there will be other upcoming events like this one!” - Iris Nguyen Ton

On August 1st, Sheldon Key Club volunteered at the Color Run, the happiest 5k on the planet! At this event, there were various shifts that members volunteered at such as distributing KIND snack bars, water bottles, throwing color, being the event MASCOT and so much more! There were also many other Key Clubbers and CKI members at the event which allowed people to bond with one another. Overall, this was a great event which allowed members to give back to the community.
