HELLO AND WELCOME Welcome to the spring edition of our 2018 programme. We have a range of exciting events coming up for you. There’s the 8th annual LS6 Beer Festival, art exhibitions, cinema screenings, guided reflections, talks, yoga and the Left Bank Choir which meets weekly to sing a mixture of soul, folk, jazz and feel good songs. We offer free space for co-working on Wednesdays and Thursdays, monthly afternoon teas, and we are also hosting a monthly Clubs Night where you will find a range of volunteer-led clubs from book clubs to craft clubs. If you’ve got an idea for a club that you would like to lead, please email linda@leftbankleeds.org.uk. Our amazing building is available to hire and makes the most impressive setting for weddings, parties, private and corporate events.
All the money we make from our activities supports the growth and development of Left Bank Leeds Charitable Trust (charity no. 1146734). If you would like to follow us on our journey please join us on social media. @leftbankleeds

APRIL ECOCYCLE LABYRINTH SUNDAY 1 APRIL 10AM-4PM FREE Join us on Easter Sunday for the final day of the Ecocycle Labyrinth, an evolving installation of light and sound inspired by the cycles of life, death and rebirth. The installation will be open 10am-4pm, with a guided meditation at 2pm. This will move through the main themes of the ecocycle and touch on its connection to the Easter story, before inviting you to walk the labyrinth for yourself. Free to attend but please register online via Eventbrite for the meditation. EXHIBITION OPENING: BEER BY DESIGN THURSDAY 5 APRIL 6-9PM FREE (PLEASE BOOK TO ATTEND) Beer by Design is an exhibition of contemporary art and design curated in celebration of craft brewing. This collaborative exhibition brings together new work from Mike Williams of The Brewers Design Society and a selection of bold prints from the archives of local breweries. SOUND, SPACE, RESPONSE THURSDAY 12 APRIL 7:30-10:30PM £5/£4 CONC. Left Bank Leeds brings together eight sound artists to roll a dice, team up in duos and perform together in response to each other and our building. Expect an evening of unpredictable performances and sounds, from primal noise to birdsong and lots in between. Come and be part of the audience and listen to the improvisation unfold. Curated in partnership with Marlo De Lara and Dave Procter. Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm start. 5.

APRIL TALKING HISTORIES: ST. GEORGE’S FIELD THURSDAY 19 APRIL 7:30-9:30PM £5/£4 CONC. Join us for an evening of local history focusing on St. George’s Field in Woodhouse, which was used as a burial ground from 1835 until 1969. Our speaker, Morticia, will tell us about its history as a cemetery during the Victorian period as well as filling us in on the cholera outbreaks and Victorian mourning culture. She’ll be setting the scene with her own artwork inspired by research into its history. The talk starts at 8pm. PHOTO: NETTI CAIRNS
BEYOND US AND THEM: JAMES ALISON SUNDAY 22 APRIL 2:30-5:30PM FREE An afternoon of discussion, tea and cake with theologian, anthropologist and priest James Alison as he examines the human propensity to scapegoat the ‘other’. In an increasingly polarised and fearful socio-political environment, how do we avoid the trap of attributing all fault to others, and instead begin to excavate the foundations of our own deceptions?

LEFT BANK CINEMA: IN PURSUIT OF SILENCE THURSDAY 26 APRIL 7:30-9:30PM £5/£4 CONC. In Pursuit of Silence is a meditative exploration of our relationship with silence, sound and the impact of noise on our lives.
