Finally, here we all are in the month of October and the buzz is building. Why you might ask. Well it’s the month where as an industry we all gather once again in Harrogate!

The show this year is set to be a fantastic event, with so many brands once again deciding to fill the halls with products covering every aspect of the nursery industry. You are certain to find exactly what you are looking for – whether to re-stock on current ‘must haves’, find that something new to offer to your customers, check out new product launches,

“We have well over 200 brands and over 140 exhibitors from 15 countries – so a truly international event this year where visitors can see some great new products.”

find the latest innovations, see new colourways and fabrics or to simply spot upcoming trends. Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair is an absolute must attend event for everyone in the nursery sector.

With the continued cost of living crisis, this is also a great time to find all those ‘show only’ exclusives by attending.

With in excess of 200 brands under one roof across five halls, it is sure to be a nursery trade fair bigger and better than the 2021 show, which in itself was amazing with great support from both exhibitors and visitors after the pandemic and this

year, the show organisers have done it again to bring you a truly valuable UK trade show. In fact, where in the UK can you find so many leading brand names happily exhibiting at a UK trade only show amongst newer fledgling companies? For example, you will find (and this is just an example, as there are so many!), leading brands such as Chicco, BabyStyle, Silver Cross, Cybex, iCandy, Johnston Prams, Mamas & Papas, Dorel/Maxi-Cosi, UPPAbaby, Inglesina, Cosatto, Joie, Nuna, Graco, Green Sheep, Angelcare, Axkid, CuddleCo, Bebecar, BeSafe…. The list goes on and on! Then of course, you will be treated with more than 50 new exhibitors to the show this year! As show organiser Adrian Sneyd tells us: “We have well over 200 brands and over 140 exhibitors from 15 countries – so a truly international event this year where visitors can see some great new products.” Adding: “As well as numerous well know favourites, we have more big brands returning which may not have been seen at Harrogate for many a year, plus over 50 new companies to the show, so visitors will be spoilt for choice when sourcing new products.”

Retailers are also welcoming the event. As Independent retailer GroovyStyle’s Managing Director, George Benzani says “Being able to see all our key brands in one place is the number one reason we go.” Adding “It’s good to see what everyone thinks will be trending in the following year and if these ideas are consistent across multiple brands.  Sometimes we find the odd rogue idea and other times we find surprising new concepts.”

Harrogate is also the home to the BANTAS and Concept & Innovation Awards. By attending you will find out first hand who has won these coveted accolades.

“It’s good to see what everyone thinks will be trending in the following year and if these ideas are consistent across multiple brands. Sometimes we find the odd rogue idea and other times we find surprising new concepts.”

And don’t forget, there’s always the after-show party! This is a free event to both visitors and exhibitors and will be held in the magnificent ROYAL HALL part of the Harrogate Convention Centre on Sunday 16th October 2022. Turn to page 19 for further information.

You will also find a great show preview within this issue, starting over on page 19, where we give you a great sneak peek of what you can expect to find within the show halls.

See you all there!

Positive year

A positive year for Tutti Bambini, as the brand has expanded its operations, opening both a brand-new distribution centre and a new HQ earlier this year. Lulu Vinte, Marketing Manager at Tutti Bambini, says, “As the brand has gone from strength to strength in the last few years, this investment was much needed to support the company’s long-term vision and improve the quality of our services for both consumers and retail partners. At a product development level, we continue to bring newness in the furniture and baby equipment category, and we are planning to expand on soft goods by the end of the year. This year we have also been more actively involved in trade shows, as we are looking to broaden our international footprint. We have exhibited so far at the ABC Kids Expo in the US and the Kind und Jugend in Cologne. This is our third and last trade show, but we will also be present at the Baby Show Olympia later in October. It has been a busy and exciting year for us, and there’s definitely more in the horizon.”

In-house or agency: How to manage Amazon

The heart of e-Commerce stems from Amazon and therefore taking an Amazon-first approach when creating an e-Commerce strategy will result in saving time, and money, leading to increased sales. With complex skills required to manage e-Commerce, as a strategy consultant and having worked with Amazon for over 10+ years, I often get asked what the correct model is – create your own in-house team or outsource to an agency.

When it comes to recruiting with Amazon in mind, you’ll need unique hiring strategies. Target the best talent, by aligning candidate traits to the job role. You simply can’t hire a National Account Manager to perform specialist Amazon tasks. Skills required to manage bricks and mortar customers are not nearly as transferable as we are led to believe.

Managing Amazon successfully requires individuals with cross-functional skill levels, and I believe the idea of a single individual properly skilled at handling everything related to Amazon end-to-end, is a fantasy. They’ll always need support on some Amazon discipline relating Analytics, Marketing, Content Creation, Sales, and Operations/Logistics, which they may not be well-versed in.

I’m sceptical that a single individual can be equally skilled at running highly efficient

PPC campaigns, writing Amazon-optimised copy for product listings, staying on top of programme-and-policy developments, and overseeing inventory forecasts. And the expectation is that the same person should be highly skilled in strategic growthfocused areas, manage customer service, resolve cases, respond to product reviews, and scan products for unauthorised sellers and counterfeiters.

If budget allows and you have the capacity to create your dream team, go on a recruitment drive to hire an internal team. They will garner a wealth of specialist knowledge that can be applied to the day-to-day running of your Amazon business.

The common belief amongst brands is that agency costs are higher than hiring a dedicated person to manage Amazon. When you consider time saving and scaled efficiency, it exponentially outweighs perceived costs.

Internal team turnover

With a smaller internal team of Amazon experts, companies have significant “key person risk”. If that person provides 4 weeks’ notice, the company will struggle to keep momentum on Amazon while they backfill the position.

In today’s post-Covid climate, Amazon

skills are in high demand as the market is under-skilled, and salaries have increased rapidly. From pre-Covid to today, Amazon salaries have increased an incredible 30%-50%. And when a company has their sights on a candidate, they have to move swiftly with the offer as counteroffers are very common.

Real-time comparative information

Because Amazon constantly changes its policies, staying on top of newly developed programmes can be tough. Different marketplaces follow different policies and your internal team needs to stay abreast of any changes on a global basis.

An internal Amazon team may have to spend time figuring out what the correct tactic is for the business where an agency, with multiple clients, is in a position to share the knowledge of quick wins. My team shares new discoveries on an ongoing basis.

Hiring an agency

It saves time! The in-house hiring process can take anywhere between 3-6 months, plus extra time for training and upskilling new team members, while an Amazon agency is fully trained and set up to start on your account straight away. We have clients coming to us with Amazon problems which

Etopia’s Managing Director, Asha Bhalsod

clients to share with you.

An agency can help upskill your existing in-house team to understand best practices and dissect the correct strategy for growth with senior members of a business. Sometimes senior members of businesses don’t fully grasp the day-to-day challenges of running an Amazon business.

A fresh pair of external eyes can supply valuable advice that may be easier to digest than getting the same information from internal resources.

What is the correct model for your business?

It’s not always a question of either-or. An Amazon agency shouldn’t be used to

replace your existing e-Commerce team. The real question should be around how an agency can complement and support your team with specific Amazon marketplace knowledge and expertise. In my experience, the best, most profitable agency-client relationships are when clients see an Amazon agency as an extension of their in-house team, working in parallel to achieve their goals.

The most successful brands are the ones that have an Amazon Mindset and want to own their Amazon strategy. An expert agency can either upskill teams or outsource support to businesses to save time, money and ramp up those allimportant sales!

has been persisting for months, unresolved. As we are a team of experts that are troubleshooting daily, we are able to resolve these issues almost instantly.

Internal promotions, position changes, and new hires can all create turmoil in your Amazon world. When collaborating with an agency, you have the benefit of consistency and stability. The right agency will provide training for any new hires so that your Amazon strategy continues to deliver according to plan.

Improving efficiency

Since your in-house team only works on either Seller or Vendor account, their

knowledge will be limited. Dealing with a plethora of clients helps an agency experience all aspects of selling on Amazon. It’s rare for an agency to encounter a problem they’ve never seen before! The cross-pollinated experience of working with various clients gives them the ability to tackle anything.

Agencies adapt to changes quickly and a good team should be able to forecast Amazon’s next move and prepare your Amazon store appropriately. With their cross-category experiences, they’ll know ahead of time how to best plan for your business. They will also have tried-andtested new programmes on previous

Be ready!BabyStyle

Hall M, Stand: M6

BabyStyle will be leading the charge again at Harrogate Nursery Fair this year with another jaw-dropping stand that promises to be choc-a-bloc with a whole host of new products across the Oyster, egg, Charnwood and Prestige ranges.

The countdown to Harrogate is always a hectic few weeks at BabyStyle, but the blur of activity is focussed on adding the precise finishing touches to product developments that have been in the works for months and years.

“It’s my favourite date on the calendar,” says Andy Crane, Managing Director. “We all work so hard to stay fresh and innovative with our products and Harrogate is where we get to display those labours to the other really hardworking people in the industry, retailers, and hope that they enjoy where our hearts and souls have been for such a long time.”

Why visit BabyStyle?

Luxury-seeking parents will be tempted by fresh fashions for the egg stroller which will be on display with a raft of new fabrics being presented alongside two brand new special edition models which offer unique adventures in knitted metallic hex prints. New chassis finish modes are also promised, as well as a few additions to the popular accessories range, including a stroller organiser, clutch bag and an egg-specific ride-on-board and seat.

For the first time ever, parents will soon be able to bring those stunning egg curves into their homes as the team will also be previewing the hotly anticipated egg highchair and the team at

BabyStyle can’t wait to see that one themselves too (if it gets through customs on time)!

The Prestige range of traditional prams has been through an evolutionary phase that leans into modern trends with a design tweak to the presentation of the chassis and a new approach to the fabrics on offer.

Also debuting at Harrogate

You will get the opportunity to see two new furniture sets from the Charnwood brand which are absolutely on trend for 2023/24 and beyond, and we especially love the curved features of the set pictured above.

Taking centre stage

As if all of that is not enough already, it is the Oyster brand that takes centre stage at this year’s event and not just for the obvious reasons based around new product launches…

Andy Crane has been considering the signs of the times that we are all experiencing and has evaluated how the Oyster brand can offer more for parents and retailers going forward. This has culminated in a considerable number of enhancements to the Oyster stroller range that will help to position it closer to luxury stroller options whilst maintaining its existing mid-range value

Cover Story BabyStyle
14 nursery today

price tag. In short, the Oyster3 now looks even more premium without punishing parents’ wallets.

Two key enhancements have made the biggest difference; firstly, the plastic back panel is being replaced with a fabric treatment which raises the cosmetic feel of the stroller instantly as far as sight and touch goes. Secondly, the Oyster logos have been toned down and muted to better blend in with the chassis features and fabrics that they embellish, and the adage of ‘less is more’ is certainly true here, as featured on the front cover with the ‘Orion’ Oyster3 coming soon.

Andy explained that as everything in life becomes ridiculously expensive many expectant parents may be forced to turn away from the more aspirational and costly premium strollers that they may have had their hearts set on five or six months ago:

“Our Oyster range has always sat in the middle of the market and provided terrific value and premium features. We are now adding an extra dose of premium look and feel to the Oyster to match the luxury features it already enjoys. If a parent has to compromise on price, then we now offer no compromise on style, quality and premium feel with Oyster3.”

Even against a backdrop of falling exchange rates BabyStyle have continued with this upgrade process as they see it as adding the crucial extra touches that will help stores to make a sale where parents might have been considering turning to the pre-loved marketplace as an affordable place to get their luxury hit.

“We never sit back and say ‘that is good enough’ at BabyStyle,” continues Andy, “And experience and technology constantly evolves and helps us to find better ways of solving parents’ problems. It is in our DNA and it is an approach that is going to be very helpful for our retailer partners, and our own business, over the next couple of very bumpy years.”

This combined thinking of evolution and value is also taking Oyster into the home instead of just

leaving it as a brand that gets used only when shoes are put on…and Harrogate will see the reveal of the Oyster 4-in-1 Highchair and an innovative sidesleeper/playpen product.

The 4-in-1 has a big clue built into the name and is a product that can be used as a seat, highchair, table, and chair adding months, if not years, of extra usefulness to parents after their initial purchase rather than it being yet another highchair that baby quickly grows out of. The side-sleeper/playpen is a product that is used for the first few months next to the parents’ bed and then takes on a new lease of life as a playpen after baby is 6 months old.

Products such as side-sleepers that have a fixed timespan of 6 months can be viewed as a tax on parenting by some consumers and BabyStyle are bringing that Oyster value thinking into new categories to help parents get more for their money and you can find out all about it and a whole lot more, at Harrogate Nursery Fair.

Barking Mad

Life is full of a number of certainties, birth, taxes and death being the most obvious. For us nursery trade people we can add the Harrogate nursery show too.

After the best Harrogate I have ever attended last year, I have to admit that my expectations are very high. Last year saw the return of many brands that have been absent for far too long and it had an amazing effect on the show. Not only did we all get to visit those brands that have always been committed to showing in Harrogate like BabyStyle and Bebecar, but we also saw a host of returning brands that have been absent for the last few shows, or simply choose not to show every year. In addition, we saw a fantastic influx of new brands too – all of which culminated in a jam-packed show for us all to experience. I attended for two days, and boy was it a mad rush! I wish I had taken a little more time out of the store so that I could have spent a little longer in Harrogate. I failed to see and speak to everyone that I wanted to visit and this year I won’t be making the same mistake.

This year I’ll be taking the full weekend to take in the sights and sounds. It means I can visit more stands and spend longer with them when I do. With an appointment diary already bursting I’m super excited to see what Harrogate 2022 has to offer, and that brings me nicely on to my annual forecasting article where I chat about what I’m hoping to see over the course of the show.

A common theme this year for me will be the fact that many brands have announced or launched many of their new products before the show. A prime example being iCandy and Venicci, both of which obviously didn’t want to sit on their new products until mid-October. It’s an odd thing to do given how close the show is but at least it leaves a little more time for socialising.

I’ll start with the house brand of the Harrogate show. A brand that is so tightly connected with the show it’s hard to imagine them not being there – I am talking of course about the brilliant guys and gals from BabyStyle. A brand dedicated to helping us independents, it only seems right that they are many stores first port of call at the show.

Pramland’s John Barker is looking forward to Harrogate and this month he illustrates why.

What will 2022 bring from BabyStyle?

Given the recent purge of Oyster 3 colours and hugely successful launch of the most recent additions it’s safe to say we can expect to see some more new fabrics in the range. Fingers crossed we’ll get some news on Oyster 3 Max – a product teased a fare while ago at Cologne and one that’s been a little quiet since.

Another product I hope to see is the Halo from last year, a clever multifunctional product that there is a market for. Similarly, to Oyster I would imagine we’ll see some new Prestige colours given the reducing range of availability. Finally, over on Egg, I can’t see anything new being announced. With three new colours already introduced and the Egg 2 only a couple of years old I’m guessing it will be business as usual for Egg. . but Andy and his team do like to surprise us all!

A new brand for 2022, Mini Uno is set to return again and they are promising lots of newness. It’s a brand that has hit many of our shopfloors not just running but sprinting full pelt! Their range of strollers, travel systems and home items are of a consistently high quality and all set at brilliantly, customer friendly prices. If you are not a stockist already I can highly recommend a visit to see them. The

touchfold stroller is one of the best selling strollers we’ve ever had!

Another brand I’m looking forward to visiting is Venicci – but not just because Katie is one of my favourite people ever! Their big release for 2022, the Tinum Ulpline will be old news by the time we hit the halls of Harrogate but I’m hoping to see some samples of their next new range. I am of course talking about their furniture. Furniture continues to sell well for us and it’s always nice to have a new range to get excited about, especially if they can deliver on the quality at the prices they are proposing.

Maxi-Cosi and Mamas & Papas are back once more and I’m guessing that they will be showing a few pieces here and there but I’m not expecting anything major given the product launches from earlier in the year.

One brand I am expecting to see big changes from is Ickle Bubba. I’ve heard whispers of an almost full range refresh and it will be interesting to see what they will be showing and how it will fit in to the market. A brand that the consumer is very much aware of, Ickle Bubba have certainly carved a niche in the market for themselves over the years and it’s fast become a brand many of the customers that visit our store expect to see.

I didn’t manage to get to the

Cosatto open days this year, so I am looking forward to seeing the full 2022 range in all its glory. Likewise, the Bebecar stand will be on my list of must see stands. It’s always nice to see Cassie and the rest of team at Bebecar and find out what crazy fabric they have planned for us next!

Given the extra time I have available this year I fully intend to have a little trundle around. Last year my back-toback diary didn’t allow for any time to see the smaller brands or stands. This year I will address that as I’ve left a nice block of space in the diary to see if I can find the next big thing!

It’s not just the brands, oh no! There are you people too! It’s always a

pleasure to spend time with you chatting and comparing notes. For me, and many of you too I’m sure, this is the highlight of the weekend. I’ve said it before, being an independent store can be a little lonely so to have such a lovely and friendly group of stores out there it’s amazing. No matter if it’s a chance meeting in a hall or spending the evening drinking and partying it’s always a pleasure to see you all. So, when you’re head down running from hall to hall, trying not to be late for your next appointment and you see a scruffy looking metalhead wondering around aimlessly. . .do stop and say hello!

See you all in Harrogate!

This year I’ll be taking the fullweekend to take in the sights andsounds. It means I can visit morestands and spend longer with themwhen I do. With an appointmentdiary already bursting I’m superexcited to see what Harrogate2022 has to offer.

Why nursery brands still have to meet new parents in their product lifecycle

As an SME, you are at the centre of a vision. You’re there because you have something to share with new parents. Something that can help them navigate those stuttering sleep schedules or weaning challenges, something that you know is truly worth hearing about.

But sometimes being at the centre of it all can feel like the eye of a storm. And with a recession looming on the horizon, you might be anticipating a few choppy months ahead. The natural inclination may be to cut back on consumer marketing in order to steady the ship. Which makes sense for most markets, but you already know things are a bit different in our sector.

With new babies being born every day, the obstacles you face can’t be solved by just tightening up spending. You still need to meet new parents in their product lifecycle, because without it, you could be steering yourself into danger.

Why optimise over cutting back?

The reality is that parents will be cutting back, but this won’t necessarily be on the many essentials our sector provides. And if you want to keep your revenues steady, you’re going to have to focus on keeping your costs streamlined while also keeping new parents aware and engaged with your brand.

It’s definitely a challenge - it will require marketing spend in a time when it would be easy to strip back.

But history shows that doesn’t work, especially at the SME level, where if you don’t grab your new customers, you risk your hard-earned audience being hoovered up by the big boys.

In fact, some landmark research points to sales increasing by 256% in companies that advertised through recessions, whereas those that stripped back saw 0% increase across the board.

Moving beyond Facebook

It seems daunting, right? To get your brand across effectively whilst also keeping your budgets low. And we’re not suggesting spending more than you can afford either.

Traditional in-store purchases are moving online at an increasing rate, so it makes sense to meet those challenges online. And your first port of call will have probably been Facebook, with over a third of the world using their platform. But in recent times, their Ad prices have sky-rocketed, nipping into margins, which can be felt strongly at the SME level.

That’s the story across the Programmatic Ad network. Prices can’t stay steady, because their models are vulnerable to outside market pressures. But if the reason you considered those services were

because it offered cheap, effective and sustainable advertising for your business, can you really say that’s still the case?

So maybe it’s time to reassess if you’re getting what you need from your current Ad spend? If your costs aren’t stable during a time where you really need them to be and you want to keep scaling, then you’re unlikely to be able to confidently plan into next month, let alone the next year.

Setting up to thrive

In a time where we’re all feeling the pinch, there are ways of optimising your spend that aren’t just cutting back.

Choosing the right strategic partner for your advertising spend can be the change that helps you survive the storm, whilst reaching new parents. By fixing your new lead cost you have a way to both plan ahead, but also cap how much you need to spend on other platforms, where the prices fluctuate wildly.

There are numerous strategic partners that can help you optimise your business and work to

complement your existing marketing mix. With the right ones, you can deliver incredible results on a fixed cost of customer acquisition and meet your customers with targeted content and email campaigns, delivered at the perfect time.

Where parents could be looking to cut back, it’s more important than ever to connect to them by offering real value and with acquisition costs that suit your business. Using a fixed lead cost model, that can help you plan into the long-term and see you through the upcoming uncertainty, is just one way SMEs can thrive.

Brands and retailers can try FanFinders pay-on-results partnership marketing to mums with a no-risk, no-obligation one-month trial.

Happiness is Harrogate

Jolly Tots

After an astounding 2021 event, Harrogate is set to impress once more with a five hall bonanza full of exhibitors showcasing an array of products ready to set your stores alight. Covering all areas of nursery and pre-school you will find established firm favourites alongside new products, colourways, fabrics, technology and more!

Within the halls, this year there will be more than 200 brands from 140 exhibitors, with the show organiser, Adrian Sneyd, commenting: “We are expecting a truly bumper event this year. Last year’s show was amazing – after two years of covid lockdowns, exhibitors and visitors voted with their feet in 2021 and we expect the same for 2022. People appear to have re-evaluated the benefits of a UK show which is easier to access and a lot less expensive than travelling overseas and consequently we are excited to present five halls packed with favourite brands and many new ones too!”

With established brands, for example, Chicco, BabyStyle, Bebecar, Cosatto, Cozy n Safe, CuddleCo, Joie, Nuna, Graco, UPPAbaby, Dorel, BeSafe, Clair de Lune, Hauck, Inglesina, Johnston Prams, Red Kite, iCandy, Mamas & Papas, Silver Cross, Tutti Bambini and Cybex (just to name a few!) happily resting beside fledging companies – the event is sure to create a huge buzz among the halls.

numerous well know favourites, we have more big brands returning which may not have been seen at Harrogate for many a year, plus over 50 new companies to the show, so visitors will be spoilt for choice when sourcing new products.”

We love to catch up with familiar faces, make new contacts and to have a sneak preview of all the fantastic new products.

Of course Harrogate is also a great opportunity for visitors to spot upcoming trends for 2023, with Joie’s Head of Product Management commenting: “Harrogate is always a must attend event as most of the key brands will be there, so it’s a great opportunity to see the new launch items for 2023 which is where any new trends will be showcased.”

Natural Baby Shower Harrogate is the perfect opportunity to meet with our brand partners and potential brands, all under one roof.

Dorel’s Field Marketeer Nicola Coletti agrees adding: “While trends run much further ahead than these shows, it is certainly a time for retailers to be able to pick up on what is heading their way. As a brand, we at Maxi-Cosi utilise Harrogate as a preview of all the newness coming in the year ahead. Like us, many manufacturers will be using this opportunity to show what is going to be big in 2023.”

Remember also, this is the time of year where the winners of the coveted industry BANTAS (sponsored by Nursery Today) and the Concept & Innovation Awards are also announced.

Party feet at the ready!

The Nursery International Nursery Fair organising team would again like to invite everyone to the much-loved Harrogate After- show Party for a fabulous few hours of entertainment and the opportunity to all socialise together. All exhibitors and visitors are invited along to this free event.

This year’s NEW fair layout will see the After-show party being held in the magnificent ROYAL HALL part of the Harrogate Convention Centre on Sunday 16th October 2022.

The ROYAL HALL is located between Hall A and M so simply leave the show from either hall’s exit and immediately next door is the steps leading up into the Royal Hall.

It’s hoped all those attending the show will come along and help enjoy the chance to get together, socialise and have some fun while enjoying the band again.

• Venue- ROYAL HALL doors open at 17.30hrs

• Includes 2 hours free drinks (beers, wines, soft drinks) until 19.30hrs

• A paid bar will run until 20.30hrs, and hall closed at 21.00hrs

• Free finger buffet

“We have well over 200 brands and over 140 exhibitors from 15 countries – so a truly international event this year where visitors can see some great new products.” Confirmed Adrian, adding: “As well as

You’ll find a superb round-up of what you can expect to find within the halls across the following pages, or visit www.nurseryfair. com to pre-register your attendance and see a full list of exhibitors.

Popular six-piece live party band – Func on the Rocks will be playing some background music to liven up the evening or for those that fancy a dance later!

The event is FREE for everyone attending the show and the Harrogate team looks forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors alike.

With the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair set to open their doors this month, can you afford not to attend?

Focus on care: new brand identity for hauck

With a modern brand strategy and a changed logo, hauck is repositioning itself on the baby and toy market. The rebranding positions the company as an appealing brand for first-time parents: “care“ is not just the brand essence, but a promise.

The UK website www.hauck.de/en has already been showcasing the new corporate design since the beginning of September. Other international sites will be adapted soon.

New logo visualises the brand essence

The hauck company has combined its two brands “hauck fun for kids“ and “hauck toys for kids“ into one brand and one logo. The merger of the two brands follows the integration of the two formerly separate companies into one during 2020.

“Made to care, designed for love.“ is hauck‘s new brand claim. This, as well as the new logo, reflects the brand essence of “care“: a lower-case h with two circles represents a child leaning on the shoulder of a parent. The new logo symbolises the closeness between parent and child, but also the shoulder to lean on that hauck aims to be for parents.

to attach great importance to a fair priceperformance ratio and supports a variety of corporate social responsibility projects to make a positive contribution to the future of children.

New colours appeal to parents’ needs

During its rebranding, hauck has added new colours to its product range, following current trends that are appealing to today’s parents-tobe. The new colour shades can be found for example on the new pushchairs and educational toys. By adding new colours, hauck is aiming to cater to the needs of today’s first-time parents and providing them with more peace of mind when caring for their children.

New product categories expand the idea of care

Care is not only the new brand essence, but also a promise: for over 100 years, hauck has focused on improving the well-being of babies and supporting their development with proven and safe products. A new Care product category that will be added to the portfolio also stands for this. It includes products such as changing mats, baby bathtubs and baby blankets.

In addition, hauck is focusing on higher quality products. Cotton is used more often for textiles, due to the breathable and moisture-regulating properties. hauck is also striving for the OEKO-TEX® certification for selected fabrics and products. Furthermore, the focus on quality sees material thickness improved in products, for example in quilted materials for a more premium look, allowing the company to keep its promise and offer robust and durable goods.

At the same time, the company continues

New design for website and social media channels

The hauck website and the social media channels @hauck_deutschland and @hauck_international on Instagram are adapted to the new brand strategy: From now on, the website will appear in a new look with the updated colours. In the following months, user-optimised functions will also be added to the website. The search function, as well as product presentations and comparisons, will be implemented in such a way that the brand essence “care“ can also be felt online.

retailer opinion

Nursery Today caught up with Natural Baby Showers’ Co-Founder Victoria Hampson about their upcoming visit to Harrogate

What makes Harrogate a must attend event for you as a retailer? Harrogate is the perfect opportunity to meet with our brand partners and potential brands, all under one roof.

I’ve attended 3 times previously, but this will be our Buyer Jemma’s first time and she will see it at a larger scale than I have before. It is fantastic to see the resurgence of Harrogate with so many more brands attending again this year. Jemma has done a great job acquiring brands since she joined us 8 months ago, but Harrogate provides a fantastic opportunity to scout more brands as well as getting hands on with product and having face to face meetings.

How many days will be visiting for and are you taking a team from NBS? The team and I will be visiting for the entire weekend, so Sunday to Tuesday. The team this year includes 8 people across relevant departments including purchasing, marketing, and store.

Do you feel that this is also a good show to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Absolutely. Harrogate always houses some of the most anticipated and exciting product launches. Some of the team and I visited K&J earlier this month which helped to provide a glimpse at what to expect at Harrogate in terms of trends – for example, there was some really great things happening at Thule.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of attending? The atmosphere at Harrogate is always positive, with everyone in high spirits and inspired by new product launches. It offers the perfect opportunity to catch up face to face with our brand partners and meet with different people within their organisations. It also allows focused time to evaluate our product ranges and discuss opportunities for the year ahead.

Do you tend to pre-plan your visit and make appointments in advance?

We’ve definitely been planning appointments in advance and though our calendar is booking up quick, we still welcome anyone to get in touch for a chat or booking. Between our 8-person team, we will likely be going from appointment to appointment throughout the weekend. However, it will be a joint effort as we will be splitting up to make sure we see as much as possible.

Are you looking for any particular products this year while attending?

As always, safety and sustainability will be our key focus. So, any brands or products that encompass this will no doubt, catch our eye. As a bonus, we will also be looking for products and brands that ooze innovation. We have had some new brands onboarding at Natural Baby Shower recently that are doing this really well Obaby, BIBS and Trixie first come to mind, so it will be exciting to see these up close and in person at Harrogate.

We keep close comms with our brands and often anticipate where to keep our eyes peeled for a new launch yet unveiling a new product at the show truly delivers on its “wow-factor”.

Other factors that influence what products to look out for includes if it is an accredited BANTA and Concept & Innovation winner, though given that the weekend is already looking so busy, this depends on if time will allow.

Is this a good opportunity for you to gain product knowledge and demonstrations?

This will be a great opportunity to see lots of demos, particularly for some of the wider team, who do not always get to touch and feel the product ranges. As this is my first-time attending Harrogate, I’m excited to get onto the stands and see the full ranges in one place, as well as get first hand info and feedback on how new ranges have been doing for us

Will you be looking out for exhibitors who will be running show only offers?

We are always keen to get show offers and will generally place orders at the show or soon afterwards to take advantage of any available.

Can we expect to see you to say hello to at the after-show party? Do you enjoy these events and what benefits do you feel everyone can gain by attending?

Absolutely – we are always ready for a drink by that point in the day! It is a great opportunity to catch up with people you haven’t seen in a long time – maybe since Harrogate the previous year. There is always a great atmosphere and so many familiar faces, both brand partners and other retailers – lovely people who make working in this industry so enjoyable.

retailer opinion

Nursery Today spoke to JollyTots Managing Director, Lorretta Owen about their upcoming visit to Harrogate.

What makes Harrogate a must attend event for you as a retailer?

Attending Harrogate is one of the highlights of our year. We love to catch up with familiar faces, make new contacts and to have a sneak preview of all the fantastic new products.

I must say the offer of processco on lots of exhibitor stands is also a lovely touch and very welcomed. I also think a comfortable pair of shoes are a must!!

We feel that attending is really important as it helps us to plan and structure our showroom for the following year.

The weeks following on from Harrogate is when we decide to sell off display models in order to make way for the new exciting items ordered during the show.

Do you feel that this is also a good show to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

100 percent. It really helps to create a feel for what colour is going to be “on trend”. You often find that the brands will have similar new tones and colours to offer...This usually indicates to us what could potentially be the big seller of the following year, which is what we are all hoping to find.

In 2022 it was very much about the Nudes and Greens which across all the brands have proved very popular instore. It was a welcome relief to see a move away from the greys.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of attending?

A break from the children! Joking aside, this year we are attending as three generations. Myself, my parents and my nephew so I’m looking forward to spending some family/business time together, discovering new brands, benefiting from some great show offers and most importantly catching up with companies that we perhaps don’t see face to face very often. This is a great opportunity to put a face to the people that we send orders and emails too.

Do you tend to pre-plan your visit and make appointments in advance?

In general, yes. I find that this works well and helps me to manage my time more efficiently. I also plan some breaks in between as you all know there is a lot of walking involved. I follow the socials too so that I can keep an eye out for new brands that we haven’t booked with.

Phil Bosher

Are you hoping to see new product launches while attending – how do these assist your business?

Everyone gets excited by new launches. Our store group chat goes into overdrive while we are attending. All the staff love to see the sneak peeks.

These are fantastic for keeping the store and stock fresh and up to date. They often become the must have items that the customers are seeking so you just have to have it in store!

Are you looking for any particular products this year while attending?

We are always moving forward and looking to expand the brands that we stock. Adding more and more variety to our showroom. We pride ourselves on providing great service and great quality products no matter what the parents budget is. Each and every parent is special to us.

We are also looking to expand the baby monitor range that we stock, expand our ERF car seat range and to look at more accessories.

Is this a good opportunity for you to gain product knowledge and demonstrations?

I can’t wait to visit the Nuna stand. We have recently become stockists and I am really looking forward to seeing their range in all its glory. It will be a perfect opportunity to expand our range and have some demonstrations and pick the brains of the experts.

Nuna is a new brand to our store and performing phenomenally well for us.  I always believe that we are always learning and learn something new every day!

Will you be looking for brands that carry eco-credentials this year, do you feel this is important within the nursery sector?

I’m always open to brands with eco-credentials as we have one world and it’s everyone’s duty to help protect it.

Will you be looking out for exhibitors who will be running show only offers?

Who doesn’t love a show offer! Of course, we will be looking out for the offers by exhibitors. This is always a great time to buy and stock up.

Nursery Today spoke to a number of the industry’s finest togain their thoughts on Harrogate this year, the importance of this trade show, product launches, trends and those all-important trade show only offers.

Jason McCullough

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

With Cologne becoming a smaller event, due to COVID, people may be thinking that Harrogate is a better option.

Costs are a crucial factor to bear in mind and Harrogate is so much more accessible.

Also, there seems to be more brands supporting Harrogate in the last few years and Harrogate is always a prominent place for networking and socialising.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Yes, there is always something new to see at Harrogate in terms of innovation current styles, and upcoming trends. This year our stands, JANE on C40 and Noordi on C46, will be displaying some exciting innovations in technology, design, and styling.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show?

Meeting people of course! It is great to engage with our retailers and meet new ones. The social aspect of the show is also important, and it is a terrific opportunity to network with retailers.

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges?

In terms of innovation, design and style, both our stands will certainly have something new for our customers. We have three beautiful new on trend colours to introduce for our Noordi pram range (C46) which we are confident our retailers will love. Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

Our new JANE iTourer car seat (C40) should be of interest to our retailers as parents will love its LED warning system which raises the alert if any aspect of the fitting is incorrect. And our super light Newel Carbon pushchair, again from JANE, is certainly worth checking out.

Will you be running any show only offers this year? It is important to catch the retailer’s eye, so yes, we will be running with some attractive show offers this year at Harrogate. We look forward to seeing all our retailers, old and new, at Harrogate.

Luisa Svensson

CONSUMER & TRADE MARKETING MANAGER – GRACO

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

We wouldn’t miss it.  Harrogate is the only UK-based baby gear event.  It gives us a great opportunity to meet everyone from major buyers through to independent retailers, all under one roof.  It’s a great way to make new connections and cement long-term relationships with key partners.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

The show provides a great platform for retailers to see new products and new collections that will be launching.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show?

Harrogate provides a brilliant opportunity to connect with old and new friends, retailers and media, and really showcase our brand.  It’s fantastic to hear and see, first hand, how our brand is being received.

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges? So far, 2022 has been, and 2023 plans to be, an exciting time for us in terms of new products; especially in our home and wheels categories. As always, we will be showcasing our new colourways.

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

We are really excited to finally get to demonstrate FoldLite – our new lightweight travel cotand our new bedside bassinet, Side-by-Side, to all our key retailers.  We might also be able to offer a sneak peak of a new stroller for next year.  Watch this space!

Christopher Gnech-Cini

SALES MANAGER – BABY JOGGER

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

It’s the only occasion in the year where retailers can see pretty much ‘all of the brands’ under one roof.

The show gives retailers the opportunity to see what’s new to the market, learn about potential trends and to take advantage of any launch offers or promotions.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Yes, the show gives a glimpse of the year ahead, with some insights as to what colours might be popular and any potential new categories which are on the horizon.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show? Harrogate is a lovely town with great night life, the show is buzzing with people and is a great place to make new business connections and friends.

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges? Yes, we have recently lunched a couple of new products (Select 2 and City Sights), have a limited edition launching of our Summit X3 and a couple of new summer fabrics too!

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

Yes, I would love retailers to visit our stand to see our brand-new City Sights, feedback from retailers that have seen so far has been great with comments such as modern, stylish, neat and affordable. It fills a gap in our range and is the first baby jogger in a while for the ‘first time expecting mum’ and it’s available in a bundle too!

Will you be running any show only offers this year? Yes, it wouldn’t be a ‘good show’ without some decent offers!

retailer opinion

What makes Harrogate a must attend event for you as a retailer?

It’s a place where I can see a lot of brands, old and new all under one roof. You see and hear first hand about new releases, new colours and can discover brands you may not know of that could benefit your store and customers.

Do you feel that this is also a good show to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Yes I do. It is good to know what people might be expecting and get ready for it.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of attending?

Goody bags! I joke, although do I love my ABC Design mug from last years’ show.

It’s great to meet with the brands and the reps you know as well as other independents that you don’t see that often.

Do you tend to pre-plan your visit and make appointments in advance?

I do pre-plan my visit by making appointments with my current reps beforehand, I also go through the exhibitor list and write down any brands that I want to have a chat with and see more of.

Are you hoping to see new product launches while attending –how do these assist your business?

Yes, it’s one of my reasons to go. It means I can see what is coming, so that I can inform my potential customers something I could get in in the future. This could also be for new colours too.

HEAD OF PRODUCT MANAGEMENT - JOIE

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

Harrogate is a great opportunity for our retailers to meet with the whole Allison Baby team face to face and to find out more about the plans we have for the following year. It is also the perfect time to see the new fashions and latest launch items that we will be releasing in the not-too-distant future so it’s the perfect opportunity to check out what’s coming.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Harrogate is always a must attend event as most of the key brands will be there, so it’s a great opportunity to see the new launch items for 2023 which is where any new trends will be showcased.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show?

It’s great to be able to have all of these amazing brands, meeting with their retailers in a more local setting. Quite often, trade shows are overseas so to have a show of this calibre on home soil is really fantastic. We always get to see some familiar faces, which is wonderful – it feels like catching up with friends, but it’s also the perfect forum for making new connections as well.

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges?

Are you looking for any particular products this year while attending?

I will be looking at products that could be add-on sales when customers make a purchase.

Is this a good opportunity for you to gain product knowledge and demonstrations?

Yes. It is good to see how products work especially when new and great to get some little reminders that I may have forgotten about when demoing.

Will you be looking for brands that carry eco-credentials this year, do you feel this is important within the nursery sector? Not in particular. It’s a bonus if they have eco-credentials and brands themselves are changing the way they do things.

Will you be looking out for exhibitors who will be running show only offers?

Always a bonus if they are, so will be keeping an eye open!

We always aim to bring something new to Harrogate and this year is no exception. With new launches in both our main and signature ranges, as well as new fashion refreshes as well, Joie fans will not be disappointed.

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

We are very excited to be able to share with you some of our new wheeled lines from our signature range as well as an exciting addition to our spinning car seat line up as well. Alongside this we also have an addition to our in-home offering that is sure to generate some interest from attendees.

Will you be running any show only offers this year?

Those who are attending will be able to learn more about any special offers that we are running – you’ll have to come down to find out, so we hope to see you there.

UPPABABY

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

Harrogate Nursery Fair is the UK industry, all together in one place for 3 days – there is so much opportunity for stores and brands to grow together and also celebrate our combined efforts that it’s baffling how some businesses choose not to attend.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Yes, and being able to get so much insight in one day of touring the stands can really set up a retailer with lots of insight into what the marketplace is about to look like.

What for your is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show? It’s the amazing individuals that make this industry so great; that is what I look forward to the most. Catching up with old friends and making new ones that will last for years to come and learning how we can all help each other.

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate? Yes, as well as some great new fashions for existing UPPAbaby strollers we are moving back into the lightweight category with the UK launch of the MINU V2 which is happening at Harrogate.

Will you be running any show only offers this year? We will, but retailers need to visit our stand to find out what they are!

Nicola Coletti

FIELD MARKETEER UKI - DOREL

What makes Harrogate a must attend event?

Harrogate is the perfect opportunity for retailers and manufacturers to get together to showcase new products and talk about opportunities for the coming year. Our industry behaviours have shifted post-covid to more face-to-face business being done at trade shows on UK shores as people are either unable or less willing to travel if they don’t have to. With less people visiting K&J, it is essential for UK businesses to attend.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Absolutely. While trends run much further ahead than these shows, it is certainly a time for retailers to be able to pick up on what is heading their way. As a brand, we at Maxi-Cosi utilise Harrogate as a preview of all the newness coming in the year ahead. Like us, many manufacturers will be using this opportunity to show what is going to be big in 2023.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show? For us, it is an opportunity to nurture our retailer and press relations and we love that all of the people that we as a brand care for the most are in one place.

Although a lot of business can be done online, you cannot beat face-to-face interaction and that’s really important to us. Harrogate is the perfect place to build on long-standing relationships as well as create new ones.

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges?

As the only UK trade show it’s a must to visit to catch up with industry experts, old friends and the only place to see all our amazing retailers under one roof.

Do you feel that this is also a good show for retailers to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Absolutely, the UK is one of the foremost leading countries for fashion and trends.  You will see strong seasonal direction for the coming periods at Harrogate…granted My Babiie being a little more out there than most!

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of exhibiting at this show?

Catching up with all off our retailers helps us to appreciate how great this industry is - we say retailers, they are more like friends!

Can visitors to your stand expect to see a level of newness within your ranges?

Yes, we have worked hard to produce our 2023 ranges to present at the Harrogate show in preparation for launch.

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

With the change in car seat legislation finally coming into play from next year we have a full suite of iSIZE R129 car seats available which we are really excited about.

Will you be running any show only offers this year?

As a business we run very little promotional activity…that being said as a thank you to our retailers for making the effort to visit the stand we may have a little something for them!

They can! We are going to be showcasing lots of newness alongside some of our bestselling ranges. Alongside our new product ranges and innovation from Maxi-Cosi, we are also taking the opportunity to showcase Bebeconfort for the very first time in the UK! Bebeconfort is an established brand across Europe, so we are excited to bring it into the UK market.

Are there any specific new products that you will be launching at Harrogate?

There are but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until the show to see them! We have newness in all categories that we can’t wait to show you.

All we can say is that visitors can look forward to extensions to our home equipment range and view our exciting new Connected Home range. We also have some exciting updates coming in our range of car seats and pushchairs that we’re looking forward to previewing for the first time.

Will you be running any show only offers this year?

Yes - we want to thank our retail partners for coming to see us at the show and also for their continued support of our brands. With new products, offers and our legendary hospitality, make an appointment with our Sales team and we look forward to welcoming you onto our stand!

retailer opinion

Nursery Today spoke to Kiddies Kingdom Showroom Store Manager, Jumaimah Hussain about their upcoming visit to Harrogate.

What makes Harrogate a must attend event for you as a retailer?

It is important for us to see first-hand all the new innovative products coming to life for the first time. It is also a great opportunity to meet new brands that we could onboard and sell on the Kiddies Kingdom website.

Do you feel that this is also a good show to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

Certainly, yes, it is. There are lots of new and interesting products going to be displayed, which are sure to forecast the next wave of trends.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of attending? We love to meet the suppliers and their wider team. We love to see how impressive the stands are, brands like Egg and BabyStyle tend to go all out, so that’s a fun part!

Do you tend to pre-plan your visit and make appointments in advance? Yes, we do. We arrange all of our appointments in advance to ensure we get sufficient time with the key suppliers we hope to work with.

Are you hoping to see new product launches while attending – how do these assist your business?-

Of course, we love to see new products anywhere in the industry! This event is just one of the places to first lay our eyes on these. Getting a first look at new product launches allows us to be one step ahead on the new must-haves to feature on our site.

Are you looking for any particular products this year while attending? We don’t usually go with any particular products in mind. We’re always confident in the range of exciting products available, which makes interesting content for our social media channels.

Is this a good opportunity for you to gain product knowledge and demonstrations?

It really is a great opportunity to gain product knowledge. We get the fortune to be up close and personal to all of the new products and really learn from the source all of the key product information, there’s no better way to learn.

Will you be looking for brands that carry eco-credentials this year, do you feel this is important within the nursery sector?

Oh, 100%. We are now more than ever conscious of selecting more brands with eco-credentials. It’s extremely important that all baby and nursery retailers make an effort to supply products that are better for our planet.

Will you be looking out for exhibitors who will be running show only offers? We certainly will. Besides attending for fun, it’s a key part of any business to be able to spot cost effective deals. The exhibition will more than likely have some great show only offers that we will be keeping an eye out for.

Nursery Today caught up with GroovyStyle’s Managing Director, George Benzani about their upcoming visit to Harrogate.

What makes Harrogate a must attend event for you as a retailer?

Being able to see all our key brands in one place is the number one reason we go.

Do you feel that this is also a good show to perhaps spot upcoming trends for the year ahead?

It’s good to see what everyone thinks will be trending in the following year and if these ideas are consistent across multiple brands. Sometimes we find the odd rogue idea and other times we find surprising new concepts.

What for you is the most enjoyable aspect of attending?

I think generally it’s good to catch up with reps and see the full range of products/ colours.

Are you hoping to see new product launches while attending – how do these assist your business?

I’m ho ping to see lots of new product launches. It’s good to have an idea of what’s to come and if we need to sell through old stock and prepare ourselves for new colours/ models etc.

Is this a good opportunity for you to gain product knowledge and demonstrations?

I find it most helpful being able to see the full range of product colours. I can then take pictures to forward to our staff and have to show customers if it’s a colour we don’t have on display. It’s also good for demonstrations on products we don’t have on the shop floor.

Will you be looking for brands that carry eco-credentials this year, do you feel this is important within the nursery sector?

I’m not 100% sure it’s as big of a deal to customers as some lead it to be. I’ve personally not had any customers come into store seeking a product with eco-credentials. Will you be looking out for exhibitors who will be running show only offers?

Show offers are definitely an incentive to support the new products/colours.

This Year’s Best Products for Baby Revealed!

Over 3,000 parents across Ireland cast their vote in the 2022 National Parenting Product Awards.

The winners of the ninth annual National Product Awards (NPPAs) have been revealed at a ceremony hosted today by Ireland’s specialist parenting publisher and content agency, Zahra. 2022 marks the biggest year of the awards to date, with over 200 products entered by brands across Ireland and overseas.

The NPPAs are Ireland’s first and only independently verified consumer awards of products and services for young families. Created by Zahra in partnership with Kantar, the NPPAs aim to uncover the most trusted products on today’s market, according to parents.

Based on the experiences of 3,073 parents nationwide, new research conducted by Kantar on behalf of Zahra, shows 84% of parents are most influenced by other parents and friends when it comes to purchasing products, compared to just 19% who say they would be swayed by a social media influencer.

It’s no surprise given the current cost-of-living crisis that value for money is the number one key purchase driver for the majority (96%) of parents, followed by 88% who say the ability to re-use products for future children is a must. Products made from sustainable materials is also a key factor for almost three-quarters (72%).

This year’s awards saw 3,073 parents and a panel of 15 industry experts evaluate products across 57 categories, including:

• Best reusable/sustainable product: Won by BabyBoo DribbleBoo Bandana Bib

• Best product for hospital bag: Won by WaterWipes Biodegradable Original Baby Wipes

• Best travel system: Won by UPPAbaby CRUZ V2 with MESA i-Size and Isofix Base

• Best baby skincare range: Won by AVEENO Baby Range

• Best sleepwear product: Won by Lil & Izzy Organic Cotton Sleep Bag

• Most family-friendly supermarket: Won by SuperValu

• Best baby food range: Won by Kiddylicious Range

• Best cot/co sleeper: Won by CHICCO Next2Me Magic2 Co-Sleeping Crib

• Best car seat (from birth to 4+): Won by Joie Signature i-Spin Grow

• Best breast pump: Won by Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump with Suction Base 150ml

Commenting on the awards, Megan Cassidy Commercial Director at Zahra said:  “Given the current climate, parents’ purchasing decisions are more important and more rigorously researched than ever. We know from our research how important awards

are to parents trying to discern the very best product for their baby, and that’s why we’re so proud to host the only independently verified parenting product awards in the country. We’ve got three layers of credibility built into these awards; our research partner Kantar, our panel of experts, and of course – the parents themselves.”

Ailis Hickey, Research Director at Kantar, added: “We are proud to partner with Zahra once again to manage the research that ultimately crowns the winners of the NPPAs. Put simply, these awards are all about connecting parents with the best products on the market. This year was our biggest year yet, with over 3,000 parents evaluating over 200 products/ services.

“Because the awards are independently tested, with no brand sponsorship or linkage, brands can be assured that every product that enters is on a level playing field – and when parents see the NPPA award label in-store, on a pack, or in the media they know the product comes highly endorsed by those they trust the most, other parents”

Online4Baby

Retail matters

This month Online4Baby’s Managing Director Christy Foster and Senior Buyer Jenny Brooks takes a view on Kind + Jugend this year having visited the show in September.

The Online4Baby buying team recently attended Kind + Jugend International trade fair in Cologne from the 8th to the 10th September. Managing Director Christy Foster and Senior Buyer Jenny Brooks reflect on what they saw and look ahead to Harrogate International Nursery Fair coming up in October.

Christy observed that although not on the scale it used to be, attending the Cologne International Show for the first time post-Covid was a fantastic occasion. It was especially beneficial to meet with

brands in person, something we’ve not been able to do for a while. The team enjoyed seeing new products in the flesh and found it gave an insightful look into what we can expect from the upcoming Harrogate International Show.

A trend that Jenny noted was a move towards more contemporary styling in the nursery. The team noticed an increased use of feature wood paneling, darker tones, and monochrome colour schemes. They felt it reflected broader home interior trends where we’re also seeing a high use of wood paneling and Scandi styling through living room furniture. It’s a design we’re confident will transition into the nursery over the next few years.

Another highlight of Kind + Jugend in Cologne was attending presentations at the Trend Forum, including 2023 baby and kids design trends and insights into the European baby care market since Covid. Additionally, the key highlight for any event is being able to see products in front of you, get out of the office, and even let our hair down after a busy few months.

Looking ahead to the Harrogate International Nursery Fair, Jenny notes that she’s looking forward to seeing how product innovation has stepped forwards compared to last years’ event. The team are now in the process of booking meetings with brands and look forward to catching up with our valued partners in person.

A trend that Jenny noted was a move towards more contemporary styling in the nursery.

Kind + Jugend impresses the industry

High number of foreign visitors, dynamic business, satisfied exhibitors: Kind + Jugend from 8 to 10 September 2022 was a successful trade fair experience in all respects.

With an impressive number of around 500 exhibitors from 38 countries, from top players through to newcomers, the trade fair offered a comprehensive overview of the industry again this year. Around 10,000 trade visitors from 103 countries attended, 75 percent of whom came from abroad. They showed a high interest in new and existing products from all exhibition segments and ensured good order books and high hopes for a good post-fair business.

“This on-site edition of Kind + Jugend with such high-quality encounters, has impressively demonstrated that the industry and trade need and intensively use the marketing tool, trade fairs, more than ever,” commented Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH. “The first event after the RE-START edition has already accentuated this. This was an important step in returning to the old strength of Kind + Jugend,” Frese added.

Alongside the excellent visitor num bers, the trade fair’s international attendance was particularly impressive – over 75 percent of the visitors came from abroad. The majority of the visitors travelled to the trade fair from all countries of Europe.

A high number of buyers from Turkey also attended Kind + Jugend in Cologne. Furthermore, a large number of visitors attended from North America and Australia, as well as from the Near and

Middle East, particularly from Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Many visitors also travelled to Cologne from Korea, India and Japan as well as from other Asiatic countries.

The exhibitors unanimously praised the high degree of decision-making competence of the visitors. They came from the international wholesale and retail trade, from the online trade, from drugstores and furniture stores, from purchasing associations as well as from the import trade.

This year, the exhibitors came from all areas of the baby and toddler outfitting sector and included products from the segments of strollers, child seats and carriers, children’s furniture and room furnishings, safety and monitoring, fashion and streetwear for babies and pregnant mothers, toys for kids and, of course, care and nutrition. 85 percent of the exhibitors came from abroad.

Along with numerous leading manufacturers and brands, many small and medium-sized suppliers as well as young companies and start-ups were represented at Kind + Jugend. The majority of the exhibitors came from European countries and Turkey. However, companies from China, India, Israel, Canada, Korea, Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and the USA were also represented at this year’s trade fair.

The system is activated by an integrated sensor that responds to pressure as soon as a child is seated in the seat; it is operated via the power supply in the car. A practical feature is that the system is automatically regulated while the car is in motion. As soon as a temperature below 5° C or above 30° C is measured in the seat body, ventilation or heating takes place. In addition to Isofix and stand attachment, the Turai360 SL Klimax grows with the little passengers. 360° rotation for easy access.

Fuss-free mealtimes with Graco

The Graco Swift Fold Highchair gives parents that are bust weaning little ones, one less thing to worry about.  It delivers exactly what it promises: it’s the easiest highchair parents will ever fold.

The innovative one-hand fold motion, easy-clean and slim, compact design will make this a recognised home hero. It requires no assembly, arriving ready to use straight out the box meaning you’ll be good-togo in a flash. Suitable from 6 months to maximum weight of 15kg, the nine adjustable height positions, three recline positions and five-point harness means the seat can grow with your child from an infant up to “big kid” age.

This highchair hero measures only 19cm by 81cm when folded down allowing you to quickly reclaim kitchen space between mealtimes, and the two front wheels make for easy manoeuvring around the home. If that’s not enough, cleaning is a breeze thanks to the one-hand removable tray, wipe-clean seat pad and removable harness covers, all helping to keep things hygienic.

Perfect for little hands

Bibado’s Dippit is the first baby utensil to offer a two-handed approach to feeding, designed to support the first stages of independent weaning in a way that feels intuitive and natural for little ones.

The textured dipper end is perfect for trying new tastes and taking in small amounts of sauces and pureed foods. Then when they’re ready for more, kids can flip the Dippit to scoop up larger portions with the spoon! The chewable dipper is also perfect for soothing sore gums while little one is teething. The Dippit features an innovative ergonomic shape, which allows babies to develop their fine and gross motor skills. Self feeding will also help improve their hand-eye coordination, as well as their confidence! Weaning Made Easy

The Lambda 3 Highchair helps to teach healthy eating habits from an early age.

Having a safe and comfortable highchair is the easiest way to teach babies to sit down while eating, and the easiest way to do this is during the weaning process. The Lambda 3 is a stylish weaning essential and has a feeding tray with a removable plastic cover, making cleaning up any accidental spills easy.

The feeding tray can be collapsed to the back of the highchair. The clever design means the chair grows with baby, including a footrest and seat that are easily adjustable in height without any screws.

Once again, these prestigious awards are sponsored by law firm 3Volution and the winner – who will be announced at the show – will receive a prize of free legal advice to help get their product to market.

“Cosatto has been a member of the Baby Products Association for many years and in the past, I also served on its Executive Committee. The Association quietly, but confidently represents the UK nursery industry around the globe when required, robustly fights our corner on standards and other important issues. There have been times in the past where its actions and interventions have been a massive benefit to the whole industry and I am sure the Association will be called on to do so again. Being a member gives Cosatto the security and back-up that is essential in today’s complex and fast-moving world.” Andrew Kluge, Cosatto

Baby and Nursery Trade Awards

Once again, the Association is proud to present its annual industry awards at Harrogate. These are much coveted by exhibitors at the show, as the judges are all industry experts and base their results on products which they feel are the ‘must see’ lines to check out at the show. When judging, they take into consideration a number of criteria including quality, value for money and market need.

The awards, sponsored by Nursery Today, will be judged on the first day of the show and exhibitors with shortlisted and winning products presented with certificates on their stands. These are a great indication for retailers and buyers to pop by and take a look at these products for themselves.
