DAY 2

Frafjord, Byrkjedal & Lysebotn Pass on Friday

Following breakfast, you will head out on the E39 highway and set off on an amazing journey to Lysebotn.

At Ålgård, you will turn left onto the RV45 highway, a stunning road that takes you on a wonderful scenic route where you can stop off in the tranquil valley of Frafjord, or at Byrkjedalstunet in the valley of Byrkjedal, which has been described as a miniature version of Norway. The site includes a charming country hotel, a restaurant that serves traditional Norwegian cuisine, and a small-scale candle factory that also serves as an outlet for local artisans. It’s a chance to stop off for coffee, before taking a short detour to Gloppedalsura, an incredible rock scree which was the scene of an epic WW2 battle between the Norwegian and German soldiers.

Your journey then takes you through incredible mountain scenery offering views as good as you will find anywhere in Europe. You will pass through the Sirdal Ski Resort before reaching the petrol station at Sinnes, another location where you can take a break. You will head further north, before turning off onto FV986 heading towards Lysebotn. This is another beautiful stretch of road that then transforms into FV500, an incredible winding road that takes you through 27 hairpin turns on an amazing journey down to Lysebotn, where you can stop off relax and enjoy the amazing scenery.

You can choose to take the journey back to Sandnes by car ferry, cruising down beautiful Lysefjord taking in views of Pulpit Rock. Be mindful that the ferry has to be pre-booked. The journey back to Sandnes is via Lauvik which takes three hours, where you will check back into Kronen Gaard. The ferry departs at 3:30pm.

DAY 3

Off to Egersund and Sogndalstrand on Saturday

Following breakfast, you will take a short journey into Sandnes and take a tour of Vitenfabrikken where there is a small exhibition of the Tempo motorcycle, one of the world’s early motorcycles, developed and built in Sandnes by the industrialist and bicycle manufacturer Jonas Øglænd.

From here you will take the wonderful drive on the Norwegian National Scenic Route Jæren Highway 44. The route hugs the coastline and offers the chance to stop off and see the Varhaug Church, one of the smallest churches in Norway, and Kvassheim lighthouse, one of the many lighthouses along the coast of Jæren.

The route takes you through the spectacular Magma UNESCO Global Geopark, offering incredible scenery, with numerous stop off points offering stunning photography opportunities.

On arrival in Egersund, you can take a stop off in the town and take in the wonderful harbour side scenery, with options to visit the leading attractions such as the Dalane Folkemuseum and the Fayancemuseum. Following lunch at the Grand Hotel Egersund, you will take the short scenic trip to Sogndalstrand, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Rogaland, and the only village in Norway where both the wooden buildings from the 1700's and 1800's and the surrounding cultural landscape are listed.
