Region Stavanger has prepared this special school study tour that combines Viking history and helps educate students on the transition Stavanger has made from its early beginnings as one of Norway’s oldest cities and hub of activity for the Vikings to its evolution to become one of the world’s major oil and gas cities and its future transition into a renewable energy city.

DAY 1
Arrive Stavanger and check-in
On arrival at Stavanger Airport Sola, school group will transfer to the Clarion Collection Hotel in the Skagen harbour area of Stavanger. Following check in students will be given a

presentation on Stavanger to include details of its history and economic development, plus a full briefing on the itinerary, health and safety. Dinner will be taken at one of Stavanger´s many good restaurants.
DAY 2
Stavanger Viking & Maritime History Tour
Following breakfast, students will head out to the Viking House to enjoy a full virtual realty Viking experience. The Viking Tour will bring back the Viking kingdom and its fascinating myths and legends. Afterwards students will head to Stavanger’s famous canning museum to learn about the city’s rich fishing industry history, before heading to Stavanger Maritime Museum, and learn more about Norway’s rich seafaring traditions. There will also be a visit visit to the Viking exhibition at The Archaeological museum.
Next on the program is a bus tour that include a stop at Swords in Rock Monument, where the brutal battle that united Norway took place. Students will also explore the longhouses at the Iron Age Farm. We have also included a trip out to Vitenfabrikken - Sandnes Science Factory which opened in May 2008 and is a science museum with exhibitions about mathematic, astronomy, chemistry, physics, art, and technology. The history of Sandnes as well as regional history are showcased in the museum. In June 2013 a new exhibition called 100% energy was opened. As a part of the exhibition, the Science Factory has their own Tesla Coil. After the visit students will head back to the hotel for free time before heading out for dinner.

DAY 3
Energy City history visit to Stavanger Petroleum Museum
Following breakfast, students will head to Stavanger’s famous Petroleum Museum, where they will learn all about Norway’s discovery of oil and gas off shore and what this meant for the evolution of Stavanger’s economy to become one of the world’s leading energy cities.
After lunch, students will then enjoy a tour of Stavanger to include a visit to the Nuart Street Art tour and the colourful Fargegata area.
DAY 4
Departure
Following breakfast guests will transfer back to Stavanger Airport Sola.
