I am proud to present Lenoir Community College’s 2024 Annual Report highlighting our students and our accomplishments for the past academic year. The 2024 year has been a year of innovation and change, but one constant has continued to be true – our faculty and staff have remained committed to bringing quality educational and training opportunities to our students, and to the citizens we serve in Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties. This has been a historic year of growth with new programs and services. The College also celebrated a new milestone with the groundbreaking of the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence. The Center will truly be transformational for our region.
I am honored to lead an incredible team of professionals who are reimagining the student experience to make it the best possible for those we serve. We have held true to our strategic plan by engaging, investing, and achieving in a quality student experience. We are redesigning how we deliver education to assist students on their educational journey. From traditional face-to-face classes to online to synchronous offerings, students have more opportunities for learning on a schedule to meet their needs.
This report shares only a few of the thousands of success stories that we are privileged to be a part of every day. Our students are our top priority, and we strive to offer the best opportunities and services available. Our commitment to our vision is strong, and our mission is clear.

There has never been a better time to enroll at LCC for training and retraining our workforce. I continue to say that our faculty and staff are the very best at what they do, and they continue to be creative and responsive to those we serve in Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties. The College has a reputation statewide for its academic excellence and its visionary leadership. I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the amazing work of our administration, faculty, staff, and students. I am proud to be a part of a dedicated 16-member board that supports the mission and vision of the College and celebrates the accomplishments of the College community. As a Board, we look forward to what the new year has to offer and the many opportunities that we can provide to those looking to enhance their lives through the programs and services offered at the College. Lenoir Community College celebrated a new milestone with the groundbreaking of the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE) in June. The Center will offer cutting-edge technology, state-of-theart simulators, and hands-on experiences for those pursuing an education in the aviation field.

“This is truly a transformational day, a historic day for Lenoir Community College, and surely for the Global TransPark", said LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt. “This facility is state-of-theart, innovative, and flexible to meet the needs in aviation, whether you want to build, fly, or maintain aircrafts, we have programs for you.”
The Aviation Center for Excellence is named after Senator Jim Perry, a graduate of LCC, in honor of his vision and leadership for Lenoir Community College and the state of North Carolina. “It’s humbling to stand here and be honored in this way,” said Perry as he reflected on his personal journey and the importance of education in shaping his life and career.
Preston Hunter, Executive Director of the North Carolina TransPark, emphasized the strong partnership between the College and the Global TransPark. “What this Aviation Center for Excellence will provide is a stateof-the-art training facility and programs at
the airport,” he said. “This will make workforce development more accessible than ever for us. By investing in education and training, we are setting the stage for sustained economic growth.”
“This Center will be a place where dreams take flight,” said Lenoir Community College Board of Trustees Chair Randy Smith. “It will serve as a hub for education, training, and research, equipping students with skills and knowledge they need to excel in the ever-evolving aviation industry.”
The Center will offer an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to jumpstart a career in aviation by earning college credit while in high school through is ACE Academy. The Center will also offer a wide range of programs, from short-term training to degree courses to transferable degree courses in partnership with Elizabeth City State University and East Carolina University.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD
Brighton Berthrong of King has been selected Lenoir Community College’s Academic Excellence Award recipient for 2024. He is recognized as one of the Great 58 in the North Carolina Community College System. The Academic Excellence Award is presented annually to a currently enrolled student who demonstrates dedication to their educational goals in an associate degree program and maintains a cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 or higher.
and pursue his CPA license and Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Berthrong has been a star athlete and starting catcher for the Lancer’s baseball team the past two years, and he will complete the requirements for his Associate in Arts in Business Administration this summer. He was named to the NJCAA All-Academic’s First Team by maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average, which highlights his ability to maintain academic excellence while participating in demanding athletic schedules.
Despite being involved in baseball and working part-time at LCC, Berthrong was able to demonstrate high academic achievement. He plans to attend a four-year university
“Being a student at Lenoir Community College has been a transformative experience for me,” he said. “As an incoming freshman in the fall of 2022, I vowed that I would value my academics to the highest standards throughout the pursuit of acquiring my associate degree. Maintaining a 4.0 grade point average while being a full-time student and athlete at the College allows me to confidently say that I kept that vow while at LCC.” Berthrong said the past two years have intellectually benefited him more than just through material in a textbook. “I have gained an understanding of the concept of discipline and accomplishing set goals. These are traits that will follow me for the remainder of my life,” he said.
“Although this journey has been a rewarding one, it comes with many hardships and challenges. If it wasn’t for the culture set by LCC, then I wouldn’t be in the spot I am today,” he said. “The guidance and support from professors to janitors, has left an impression on me that can never be forgotten.”
SAVANNAH BOSEMAN
Former Lenoir Community College Student Government Association President Savannah Boseman of Kinston has been recognized as LCC’s recipient of the Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award. She is one of the Great 58 in the North Carolina Community College System. The North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents created the Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.
GOVERNOR ROBERT SCOTT LEADERSHIP AWARD
She is pursuing an Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice and plans to graduate in May in hopes of transferring to Western Carolina University to earn a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating from WCU, she plans to join the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation with the goal of becoming an investigator. She plans to specialize in human trafficking investigations and crimes against children. Throughout her time at LCC, Boseman has displayed exceptional leadership and dedication. Serving as the 2023 – 2024 President of the Student Government
Association, she led with distinction. Her commitment to academic excellence is evident in her membership in the Omicron Rho chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, where she demonstrated exceptional scholarship. She has maintained a 4.0 college grade point average and is a recipient of the LCC Guarantee Scholarship, the E. Merle Edwards Scholarship, and the Dr. Frank Rocker Jr. Scholarship through the College Foundation. She also served as a technical assistant working in the College’s Distance Education Department.
“Leadership to me is not about holding a position of power but about making a positive impact,” Boseman said. “My leadership journey has been a profound learning experience, teaching me the value of responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. My leadership journey at LCC has been a transformative experience, shaping me into a leader who values empathy, inclusivity, and community impact.”

DALLAS HERRING AWARD
Lenoir Community College student Shanice Williams of Kinston has been named LCC’s Dallas Herring Award recipient for 2024. She is one of the Great 58 in the North Carolina Community College System.
The Dallas Herring Award was established by the North Carolina Community College System to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring, one of the state’s earliest advocates of community colleges. The award is bestowed annually upon a student who best embodies Dr. Herring’s philosophy of “taking people where they are and carrying them as far as they can go.”
A single mother with three children and a full-time job, Williams refused to let adversity define her. Determined to create a better life for herself and serve as a positive role model for her children, she embarked on her academic journey at LCC. Despite experiencing heartbreaking losses, she persevered, driven by the memory of her beloved grandmother and uncle. Through dedication and resilience, Williams not only completed her Associate in Applied Science Degree in Medical Office Administration but also secured an internship with the Lenoir County Health Department during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her exceptional performance led to a full-time position, where she continues to excel.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Instructor Henry Perez was recognized as one of the top 25 most influential HVAC instructors in the United States by the ESCO Group, an organization that sets industry standards and provides tools and tailored training resources to help advance professionals, as well as educators, in the fields of HVACR and building science. The award reflects his excellence in teaching. Originally from Mexico, Perez has been with LCC for more than 10 years. During that time, he helped develop the Latino Educational Center and a one-of-akind HVACR program at the College. He also teaches residential electricity and other Energy Distribution Systems courses utilizing propane technologies.

Celebrating
50
Years of Service
Officially on April 1, Lenoir Community College employee Susan Nobles celebrated 50 years of service at the College; however, the College celebrated her March 28 with a cookout and with the naming of the Lancer Baseball Scoreboard – the Nobles Scoreboard.
LCC President, Dr. Rusty Hunt, presented her with an official Lancer Baseball jersey with her name on the back, and in a video presentation, he unveiled the Nobles Scoreboard.
“I am totally blown away by this. I’m thrilled,” Susan Nobles said. “I’m humbled and blessed.”
“Everyone loves Susan,” Hunt said. “She is a great supporter of the College and has given so much of her time to LCC and to the athletic program. You will always see her at the games. We appreciate her and her dedication.”
The LCC Board of Trustees honored Nobles at its board meeting with a resolution recognizing her years of service and a plaque.
Nobles’ husband, Bobby, and one of her sons, Robert, also work at the College and her other son, Richard, his wife, Amanda, and their children, Eli, Scarlett, and Lizzie attended the spring cookout in Nobles’ honor in the Culinary Arts Department.
Nobles graduated in computer programming from LCC in 1973. Soon after graduation, she started a job with the City of Kinston. She worked there for about a year before somebody recommended her for a position at LCC. Little did she know that she would be celebrating her 50th anniversary.
She has held many positions at LCC and is currently the Research Coordinator. “I love what I do. I may have had challenging days, but my experience at LCC has been rewarding,” she said. “I just hope people remember me as a kind person. I pray they remember me as a helpful person who would never say 'no'.”

Summer camp at Lenoir Community is back after a short hiatus, and the career experience gave participants a chance to “Explore Lenoir” for two entire weeks.
“Explore Lenoir gave campers an opportunity to participate in engaging and fun activities in 16 career areas culminating in team building and fun challenges,” said Vice President of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Timothy Maddox-Fisher. Dean of Business and Industry Dr. Dusk Stroud and Director of Marketing and Communications Richy Huneycutt co-directed the camp.
The first week of camp included exploration of graphics, health sciences and nursing, culinary, fine arts, information technology, young entrepreneurship, basic law enforcement training, and welding. The second week included programs at the Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center, aviation, cosmetology/ esthetics, emergency medical science, STEM, and sustainable agriculture.
Southeast Crescent Regional Commission Aviation Center for Excellence Donation Presentation
Congressman Don Davis presented Lenoir Community College $285,480 from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission for the Aviation Center for Excellence and its Aviation Academy. The presentation was made at the Lenoir Community College Greene County Center in Snow Hill.
The Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC) is extremely excited about this inaugural group of projects that have come forth through our office. North Carolina has received 10 of the 57 projects that we will implement over the next two years, said Dr. Jennifer Clyburn-Reed, federal co-chair of the SCRC. “We are extremely excited about this project in aviation, the innovation that will be thrust into the community to ensure that the economy becomes stronger.”
Congressman Davis said this grant will boost training for skilled aviation mechanics and support local job growth in the east. “This is about offering opportunities, real opportunities for not only those in this community but for young people across the east.
“President Hunt, I really appreciate you,” said Congressman Davis. “In North Carolina, we are a leader across the nation in our community
college system. This is a living example of what we can do to change lives to make a difference and to keep the American dream within reach for our young people right here in eastern North Carolina.”
In addition to LCC’s existing aviation programs, the College will add a much-needed and indemand program for aircraft maintenance. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to qualify for an aircraft mechanic’s certificate with airframe ratings. This program has never been offered at the College, and it will provide students in our region the opportunity to acquire employment in their local communities.

Element451 – LCC recently implemented Element451, a CRM platform that will revitalize the way in which the College communicates with and recruits new students. This software, powered by AI, will revolutionize onboarding for the College.
FSU Signing – LCC partnered with Fayetteville State University as they added 12 North Carolina community colleges to the Bronco Benefit guaranteed transfer initiative. This further solidifies the transfer options for LCC students upon graduation.
Health Sciences Expansion – LCC received a High-Cost Expansion Grant to increase the number of seats in the nursing program. LCC was able to gain approval to increase these seats by 10 students, and we hired a Simulation Technician to assist in this endeavor. Through funds received, LCC was able to purchase necessary equipment and supplies to aid in this expansion.
Lancer Educator Apprenticeship Promise (LEAP)
Signing – LCC partnered with Lenoir, Greene, and Jones County Public Schools on an agreement to provide career-focused engagement opportunities through apprenticeships for high school students interested in pursuing a career in teaching. Qualifying students are awarded full tuition and fees to attend both LCC and ECU, with the agreement to return to their county service area for three years of service as repayment of fellowship funds.

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS
SEED – LCC partnered with Wayne Community College, Smithfield Foods, ApprenticeshipNC, the Governor’s Office, North Carolina Business Committee for Education, and other manufacturing and business partners in our region for the first Southeastern Education & Economic Development (SEED) Program. Through this seven-week summer advanced manufacturing academy, students were paid to attend college as their summer job. They received free college, in-person visits to local manufacturers, and an apprenticeship opportunity. LCC was honored to share with Governor Cooper the progress that has been made this summer with the 35 students enrolled in this paid preapprenticeship program. Thirteen students completed the first cohort at LCC.
Welding Lab Renovations – Through assistance from Perkins funding and other support dollars, the College renovated the welding shop on main campus, to include new welding booths, new lighting and flooring, new equipment, and other necessary enhancements to the space.

There were many wonderful moments throughout the year. However, one of the most exciting was naming the Lamm Building. Longtime supporters and community champions William “Bill” Lamm and Melda B. Lamm bequeathed a gift of more than $1 million to the Foundation. Many people in Lenoir County will remember Bill for his work with the Agricultural Extension Service, where he worked as the Lenoir County Extension Director from 1973 until 1984, when he retired with 31 years of service to the agency. I will always remember Bill on the golf course. He served on the Foundation’s Golf Classic Committee for many years and was instrumental in its success. Melda was a registered nurse who worked at Cherry Hospital for 31 years. Their lives were dedicated to their faith, family, friends, and community.
The Foundation continued the Performing Arts Series by bringing Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical, Disney's The Little Mermaid, White Christmas: The Musical, School of Rock: The Musical, and Lewis n Clark to the Turner Stage . Hello Dolly will join the Performing Arts Series in November andBroadway Unleashed: Holiday Edition in December. Anastasia – The Musical will take to the Turner Stage in July, 2025. For those who enjoy fabulous performances, beautiful music, and clever storytelling, LCC is the place to be. Jessica Cruz, Director and LCC Fine Arts Chair, along with the talented performers and musicians, will bring a smile to your face and a song to your heart.

LCC FOUNDATION AMBASSADORS 2024 TENNIS CLASSIC
Lenoir Community College recently held the dedication of the newly named Lamm Building. The building is named in recognition of William "Bill" Lamm and Melda B. Lamm, longtime supporters of the College. Their lives were dedicated to their faith, family, friends, and community. In light of that, the two were very generous with their work and donations to multiple institutions across the surrounding area.
Bill and Melda Lamm bequeathed a gift of more than one million dollars to LCC. This donation is one of the largest gifts received in the institution's 65 years. At the building dedication, Lamm family members and LCC staff and faculty gathered for the unveiling of the plaque honoring Bill and Melda.
"Their donation is game-changing for our institution and, most importantly, our students that we serve in Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties," says LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt.

"We were fortunate to have great people such as Bill and Melda Lamm show their support for our institution. Their legacy will live on, not only in this building but in the students that we serve today and in the future."
Lamm had previously served as a member of the LCC Golf Tournament Committee, and he and his wife, Melda, were sponsors of the tournament that raised funds for the College scholarship program.
"Between the time Bill spent as a committee member for the LCC Golf Tournament and this donation, I have no doubt that Bill has fulfilled his commitment to education,” says LCC Foundation Executive Director Jeanne Kennedy. “This donation will allow us to provide scholarships to many of our students."
After the formal dedication, the family was invited to walk through the Lamm Building and hear more about the educational opportunities available in the facility. They were also able to spend time with LCC faculty and staff in attendance over refreshments.
"We are so thankful to LCC for holding this event. This means a tremendous amount to our whole family, says Donna McGalliard, niece of the Lamms. "We are appreciative to see that the time and effort that Bill and Melda gave to this community will be forever memorialized here at LCC."
