INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIONS CLUBS—DISTRICT 60B
Message by District Governor Lion Isaac Solomon MJF
Lions/Leos, As I travel across the region conducting my club visitations, I have developed tremendous respect and admiration for the great work that you have been doing. Because of your efforts, many of society's
social ills are being conquered by a simple decision at a meeting; by an act of kindness; and even by the exemplary lives we live when we bring the Lions Code of Ethics to life. It is often repeated that a busy individual makes the best Lion/Leo and as such I want to salute you for the selfless way you continue to make a gift of your time to the needy and disadvantaged in our midst. Your gift of time is priceless! And while you may be struggling to carve out those blocks of time your continuous service not only demonstrates that you have the heart but also the passion and the will to make our communities better.

The reward you get is that each of those persons will know that there is one person out there in the world who cares. Lions and Leos, continue to represent what's right with our world: keep on the path to 'Service Ex-
cellence'. Yours in Lionism Lion Isaac Solomon MJF

Peace Poster Sub-District60B 2014 Peace Poster Contest Winner- 13 Years old Evita Alama’ke — Lions Club of St. Maarten entry In judging the pieces, the judges, an art teacher and an art enthusiast, looked at creativity, use of colour and different medium (pencil and crayon), the principles and elements involved in drawing, concept, and the encompassment of the theme “Peace Love & Understanding”. They had a difficult choice between the entry submitted by the Cayman Brac Lions Club and the St. Maarten Lions Club. Though pale in
colour, the entry by St. Maarten Lions Club took the edge because of the use of different medium. Congratulations to Dilan, Kerece, Mya and Evita for being their respective club’s winners, and to Evita for winning District 60B’s 2014 Peace Poster Contest. Appreciation is also expressed to the Lions Club of Cayman Brac, Mona, Charlotte Amalie St. Thomas and St. Maarten for their efforts in promoting the District Peace Poster Contest in 2014. Evita’s poster was submitted to the Council of Governors Chairman to be judged along with the winning entry from SubDistrict 60A. The entry from Sub-District 60A subsequently won the Multiple District Peace Poster Contest. 132 entries were received by Lions Clubs International and the competition has been judged. The winner and 23 merit award winners will be announced on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at this year’s Lions Day with the United Nations .
Chairperson Lion Thora Richards-Palmer Alcohol & Drug Addiction Cocaine —People often decide to try drugs to feel in control of their lives. This choice can make them feel accepted and responsible for their own decisions. Deciding what to put into your body is an important type of control. But drug abuse almost always results in a loss of control. When people abuse drugs, they lose control of their own decisions since the only things that matter becomes getting and using the drugs. Moreover, drug-abusers lose control of their behaviour, doing things to harm themselves physically and emotionally, that they would not ordinarily do. But since addiction is a process , and generally a gradual one, users do not become addicts unless they have a support system allowing them to use, gain tolerance for, abuse and finally become addicted to drugs. The people who intentionally or unintentionally help others go through this process are known as ENABLERS. Often, enablers have good intentions, they don’t want to get someone ;in trouble or make things worse, so they deny or ignore the problem. Remember the addictive process is: USE-ABUSEmore nominations maybe made. If the nominee/s are unable to serve, and there is no other nominee, the nominating committee may submit, at the election meeting, names of additional nominees Club Elections—Timing: Elections are to be held no later than for that office. Special Feature by Leo Tissona Ormsby, P.R. of Leo Club of Clarendon Celebrating Melvin Jones’ birthday in Service It should come as no surprise that Lions make up the world’s largest service organization, with over 1.37 million members serving the less fortunate in some 210 countries worldwide, and this year’s International President (IP), Joe Preston has set a goal for Lions & Leos to serve 100 million people by December 2017 in recognition of the organization’s 100th anniversary. It was IP Joe Preston’s Centennial Service Challenge that inspired this year’s first “Worldwide Week of Service” (WWW) in January to honour Lions Clubs founder, Melvin Jones’ birthday, and Lions everywhere kicked off the international week of service on January 10, 2015, with numerous service activities. Following the week’s activities, it was remarkable to see Lions and Leos around the globe celebrating the birthday of Melvin Jones through week long service activities that also saw District 60B Lions and Leos get on board. The 60B Lions were unmistakably on a mission to strike out hunger as The Castries Lions & Leos fed the hungry and the Dominican Lions honoured Melvin Jones by engaging youth and relieving hunger at the Bellevue Chopin Primary School on January 15. They also donated a box of chickens and 10lbs of fish to the Warner Primary School Feeding Programme earlier that week. Given these Lions’ service excellence during WWW, it was only fitting that the Leos of the District play their part as well. The Leos of Grenada certainly made a positive impact as they celebrated Melvin with donating fruit trees and helping to plant them. The Leos didn’t leave it at that; they also donated books and school supplies to their adopted school, Constantine Methodist Primary School on January 16. The District is certainly alive and thriving, and with the second WWW of activities just around the corner in May, we just can’t wait to see what #Lions100 activities will help to make a difference in the lives of those we serve! What will your club be doing to serve those in need? CLUB ELECTION GUIDELINES/ PROCEDURES (Cont’d): Eligibility to vote: Voting privileges are granted to members present who are in good standing and fall into one of the following membership categories: Active, Affiliate, Associate, Life, Member at Large and Privileged. The president is entitled to one vote, so long as he or she is in good standing. Plurality vote: The candidate receiving the largest number of votes has a plurality. Form of Ballot: Unless otherwise provided in the respective club constitution and by-laws, or other adopted rules, in elections, “for” and “against” spaces or boxes should not be used. They are applicable only with respect to votes on motions.

Get Onboard: Building a Path to Service Excellence
To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself. Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself. To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given. Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, as to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.

To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy. To Be Careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.
District Governor’s Song 2014-15 All aboard, get on board (Repeat 4 Times) Lions get ready There's a train a-coming Don't need no baggage Just get on board All you need is faith To hear the diesels humming Don't need no ticket just thank the Lord
there a place For the hopeless sinner Who has hurt all mankind Just to save his own Have pity on those Whose chances are thinner There is no hiding place From the Kingdom's Throne
Chorus Leos get ready For the train to Jordan Picking up passengers From coast to coast Faith is the key To open the doors and board them There's room for all Among the loved the most
Chorus So people get ready For the train a-comin' You don't need no baggage You just get on board All you need is faith To hear the diesels humming Don't need no ticket You just thank, you just thank the Lord
