Editor’s Note Our first two newsletters were very successful! Readers from all over the globe logged on to see the excitement that happens in Leoism and we intend to bring another insightful issue to the world! Leo Club Awareness Month is on the horizon, and this issue of INSIGHT is geared towards empowering Leos to raise awareness of our impact in today’s society. The Leo Region Secretariat’s theme for this year is “Visibility through Service” and the month of April gives us a chance to fully promote LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE & OPPORTUNITY. Long gone are the days of keeping our success stories to ourselves with the existence of social media. Inside this issue, we will look at some ways to supercharge our social media strategy in order to effectively spread the word about Leo Clubs. Fully understanding the effectiveness of social media could in fact lead to the Leo Movement becoming not just a lifestyle, but an identity. We serve with purpose and April is a time to reach out, engage our communities and build a positive relationship in order to increase Leo Club Awareness. But also importantly, don’t forget to have fun! Let the countdown to Leo Club Awareness Month begin, but first, read and enjoy this new INSIGHT!

Leos Take Centre Stage! Leo Club members took centre stage and delivered stellar performances on Saturday, February 8 at the launch of the 2014 Leo Competition hosted by the Downtown Leos In Kingston, Jamaica. “The launch of this year’s competition signified a great achievement for the Secretariat. This is the first time in the history of the Leo Competition that we’ve had so many Leos in one location and in the number of clubs that entered the competition”, said Leo Allan Carter, Leo Region Secretary/Treasurer (LRST). This year’s Leo Competition was revamped and gave Leos a chance to showcase their talents in the performing arts. Judges were entertained with some captivating performances from the Leos of Mary Mount High School, Kingston, Downtown Kingston, Mona and Clarendon. Following their winning performance with “Spotlight on Service”, the Leo Club of Clarendon again emerged as the winner of “Guess Who” which cemented their spot as the winning team in round one of the competition. The winning team along with Mona, Marymount High School and Kingston Leos will advance to the finals to be held in April. A delighted Leo Allan also expressed that “The
participation and energy of the Mary Mount Leo Club was the highlight of the day. it was wonderful to see them, mainly because they are a part of the Alpha (school-based) branch of the movement and this is also the first time that a High School has entered”, he added. “The prizes this year are very attractive”, said Leo Brittania, Leo Competition Chairman. Prizes include gift baskets, trophies and the winning club will also be presented with four (4) passes to the Annual Leo Club Convention to be held July 24-27, 2014 . Best of luck to all the clubs!

The club was given an opportunity to read a Bible lesson and members gave a brief presentation on the club’s achievements. The Leos who attended were motivated to do bigger things in the name of service. Leos donate photos to help fight blindness in Children According to lcif.org, there is an estimated 1.4 million children in the world who are blind. Three -quarters of them live in the poorest regions of Asia and Africa and most of these children lack access to treatment for conditions that are easily treatable. Lions Clubs International and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care have teamed up to address this issue with an exciting project and the Clarendon Leos jumped on board to donate a photo a day for Sight For Kids! Hoping to raise USD $30,000, for every photo donated, Johnson & Johnson will give $1 to Sight for Kids. That $1 will make it possible for a child to get his or her eyes tested. The challenge began in late 2013 and ended on March 31, 2014 with a total of 3177 donors and
23864 photos donated. Kudos to the Clarendon Leos for contributing to this major achievement! Check out some of the photos that were donated by the Clarendon Leos on the following page!
