BRIEF The Nigerian Red Cross Society in collaboration with the international Red Cross intends to develop medical clinics nationwide in order to supplement healthcare service delivery in Nigeria. These prototype, medium scale, modern clinics are expected to include basic amenities and facilities in dispensing such rural and urban healthcare requirements. The concept, space appropriation and functionality are expected to respond to primary economic and environmental factors responsible for the actualization of this dream.
CONCEPT The concept realization is based on simple, standard and commodious clinic design aimed at cutting through the various geographical regions of Nigeria, at the same time evolving a composite architectural style reminiscent to international standards.
DESIGN The Design comprises three major functional entities namely; • Administrative units • Consulting units • Allied Services These units can further be categorized under the following: • Entrance lobby / waiting and reception • Pharmacy / accounting units • Consulting rooms • Theatre and laboratories • Emergency and treatment units • Private and general wards • Nurses station / staff changing and lounge • Generator and gatehouse / laundry services
CONCLUSION The clinic which is expected to cover approximately 1000 square meter area may require a total of about 4000 square meter inclusive of parking and landscaping.

Children Friendly Initiative Providing medical care and health education for our children is important for their development and progress in overcoming the cycle of poverty and disease. Health training and treatment are advancing our children mentally and physically as they grow to become leaders in their communities. Health habits that are formed now will be passed on for generations to come. That is why the Nigerian Red Cross Clinic shall among others, evolve a practical Baby-Friendly approach that will ensure adequate attention to the health needs of our children. The Centres shall be equipped to also serve as immunization centres for children.
