Caribbean Cuisine our 2010 The Aim

The aim of the WorldFoods 2010 tour is to promote and bring more awareness to the availability of Caribbean food across London and the UK by way of education through cooking demonstrations and food samplings in a fun and exciting way. Events will be held at pre-selected leading supermarket stores and high footfall locations in major towns showcasing traditional Caribbean foods, recipes and ingredients.

Official Open Evening of Caribbean Cuisine Tour in association with Jamaica Trade and Invest

Following on from the hugely successful Caribbean Cuisine Tour of 2009, an official open evening for this year’s WorldFoods Caribbean Cuisine Tour will take place at the Jamaican High Commission in central London on Tuesday 9th March 2010 at an informal gathering, providing the opportunity for selected companies and organisations to network and find out how they can be part of the WorldFoods Caribbean Cuisine Tour 2010, the WorldFoods Caribbean Food and Drink Festival and the WorldFoods Guide to Caribbean Cuisine. Official press launches of these events will follow at a later date both in London and Birmingham. A total of 30 Caribbean Cuisine tour dates for this year will be announced with presentations made by Laurence Jones of Jamaica Trade and Invest. George Phillips, Commercial Director of Grace Foods UK and Derek Morrison, CEO of WorldFoods In attendance will be Jamaican cabinet ministers the Hon. Karl Samuda Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, the Hon. Audley Shaw Minister of Finance and the Public Service, the Hon. Olivia Grange Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Her Excellency, Joan Edwards the Deputy Jamaican High Commissioner, the WorldFoods Caribbean Cuisine Tour’s main sponsors Grace Foods and Encona plus Executive representatives from the UK’s major supermarket stores Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons. Invitations will also be extended to Caribbean Tourist Boards, Caribbean High Commissions, Trade and Investment agencies plus manufacturers, importers and providers of Caribbean food and drink including Caribbean restaurants, caterers and related businesses. On the evening, a wonderful selection of hors d’oeuvres complimented with Caribbean cocktails will be prepared by UK Caribbean celebrity chefs Rhodes Across the Caribbean Hassan Defour and Hell’s Kitchen’s Gary Tomlin. Light entertainment will be provided by the award wining Pantonic Steel Pan Band who will be playing wonderful rythms of the Caribbean including Soca, Calypso and Reggae.

The Tour

WorldFoods and the Tour’s main sponsors Grace Foods will support the Caribbean Cuisine Tour along with a number of leading food & drink suppliers. Caribbean celebrity chefs will also play their parts by be performing simple but exciting daily cooking demonstrations of new and traditional mouth watering recipes. The tour will be promoted in the press and selected radio and TV mediums. Over 100,000 pre event flyers will be produced and distributed throughout the 30 date tour. The pre event flyers will also feature the finale event of the tour WorldFoods Caribbean Food & Drink Festival.

Caribbean Food Drink Festival 2010

The Festival

This will be the finale event of this year’s Caribbean Cuisine Tour. A one day show to be held at the Business Design Centre at 52 Upper Street, Islington, London on Saturday 21st August 2010. The event will depict “A True Celebration of Caribbean food, drink and lifestyle”. This televised event will showcase the Caribbean Cuisine Tour sponsors and the celebrity chefs that participated. The exhibition arena will host a main stage dedicated to live cooking demonstrations with an exciting cook-off between the chefs. The stage will also host live entertainment including music, poetry and dance from the Caribbean, plus a preview of carnival costumes for this year's Notting Hill Carnival. One of the key features of the one day show is a Caribbean food court which will have a fantastic selection of national dishes from over 15 Caribbean Islands to sample and not forgetting, the Rum Shack, showcasing and sampling great Rums of the Caribbean. This event will create fantastic PR, sales and marketing opportunities for any company or organisation associated with Caribbean food, drink and related industries.

Haiti Appeal Fund

The tragedy of Haiti has been strongly felt by the neighbouring countries of the Caribbean. A big focus has been placed on raising funds in aid of the British Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Appeal. WorldFoods and their sponsors throughout the 30 date Caribbean Cuisine Tour and the Caribbean Food & Drink Festival will also engage in a number of fund raising efforts for the relief fund. Guide to Caribbean Cuisine 2010 The Publication

As part of the WorldFoods Caribbean Cuisine Tour and the Caribbean Food & Drink Festival a quality comprehensive guide will be produced reflecting the influences and diversity of Caribbean food, both traditional and new culinary fusions. A recipe book within the guide will instruct you through time honoured dishes, plus a complete A-Z food glossary will help to familiarise you with the exotic spices and natural foods of the west indian Islands. A restaurant guide with a special focus on the Caribbean’s most exclusive restaurants will also feature. The Publication will also host a travel section with information provided by selected tourist boards of the Caribbean plus we highlight the Caribbean holiday cooking resorts and seminars.
